I'm glad Willis's wife is talking about her experience. I hope it will help others who are coping with the tremendous challenges of being caregivers for loved ones. Even someone with the resources and support she has feels the stress and the sadness of it. As Boomers begin to enter their 80s, many more families will need support.
The thing is that money can buy a lot of things, but she still has to figure out what the best care and support options are for her husband and their family. Possibly in a short time frame, while life around them goes on (and needs attention as well). The uncertainty what is best, how the disease will progress does not go away no matter how well off you are.
@Pissed Pisces Oh, precisely, I didn't intend to minimize what she's going through, simply to point out that this is how difficult such a situation is, that even with the best resources it's draining and heartbreaking.

@Pissed Pisces I had a grandparent with Alzheimer's and a parent with dementia. She has millions of dollars to figure out the best care for her husband. She doesn't have to quit her job to care for him or work 2 jobs to pay the bills. It's approx $50,000 yearly average for assisted living care. What options do middle-class and lower-class families have? This is what she should be talking about.
@Ellen Jones I’m right there with you, Ellen. Families without financial resources are drained physically, psychologically and emotionally. I don’t know where I would be without the strength and peace that comes from the Lord, but it is excruciatingly difficult to do right by a loved one without losing yourself in the process.
How lucky is Bruce Willis to have found two incredible women who love him to the moon and back. They all have raised these daughters (and it looks like a grandkid on the way) that are beautiful, authentic and adore their father. He is truly a lucky man. We as an audience are blessed to have been able to watch him grow into the man, the legend, the actor that he became. Happy Birthday BW ❤️🥰👑

I m so glad he s surrounded by his family..and yes his ex wife. Even though their marriage did not work they showed us that you can still have a great friendship and be great parents. I love the genuine energy they bring.
Seeing him so aged makes me sad. So unexpected for such a hero in the film industry. I hope his life carries on in a dignified manner surrounded by fans and loved ones.

Nothing wrong with aging, it’s his dementia that makes it sad. Aging can be a beautiful thing.
@Tj Masterbarber If you look at videos and photos of him, his FTLD has aged him considerably since the diagnosis last spring.
I love that he and Demi have remained friends despite the end of their marriage decades ago.
It is bad idea to be friends with you ex. But it is be civil to your ex. I never be friends with non of my ex boyfriends and my ex friends.
@Joy Timmons No it is not. You were friends before and you can love someone but not be in love with them. Although my parents divorced when I was 13, it was the healthiest gift they could of given me. ( I am now 69 ) Until my mother died at 72 my father was her best friend and visa versa. When my mother went through a hard time I asked my father why although remarried why he was helping her. His response was “ she will always be my children’s mother and what would you think of me having the means and I did not help. She is also my best friend for too many years to not help. My son experienced this from his grandparents and when I divorced his father, I followed the same mentality. My ex did not and all he accomplished was alienating his son to this day. A step-mother who included my mother on events and holidays eliminated any resentment or disloyalty feelings that could of had towards her.

@Joy Timmons It's only a bad idea to force the friendship. My mom tried to force my dad and stepmom to be friends and have big family get togethers like this even though several times it would end in a huge fight.
That said I've seen it work out great for other ex's.
Bruce has been a favorite of mine since his Moonlighting days. It is so sad he and his family received this diagnosis. Caregiving is not easy,, but with the love and support of family, friends and medical support it can make the path just a little easier. I wish nothing but love and blessings to the Willis family, everyone will get through this with the Lord's guidance. Happy Birthday, Bruce! ❤

Ditto. I'm one of the seniors who have been watching Bruce since Moonlighting. My son is a big fan because of Die Hard which was released when he was still a baby. Bruce Willis is a true legend.
My father in law and I watched that show together. ❤ He had cancer, I was pregnant. We always looked forward to Thursday nite, Moonlighting

Wow! It is sad to see how he is becoming different. It is sad that this could hit you at even ages younger than what we would consider to be really old. He's not really old yet. I'm glad he is surrounded by people who love him and are supporting him and encouraging him during this journey. We will all hold him in prayer.
My dad had dementia for the last 18 months of his life, the last 6 months being the worst. It was absolutely horrific. You could see he was terrified, and certainly not the man we all knew. I think we can all just wish to pass peacefully in our sleep well before dementia takes hold. Very sad for Bruce, far too young to go through this. 😞
I respect and honor Emma for her love and support of her Husband. I wish her and her family well. Dementia is a horrible way to leave this earth. I have two parents...one with Alzheimers, one with Vascular Dementia. It is devastating. I am a fan of Bruce and am extremely sad about this development. What is also disturbing...is that I am seeing many of our older celebrities coming down with these neurological diseases more than ever before. Country Singers are getting brain damage, and stopping their touring. Actors are getting brain damage and stopping their careers. Something is definitely changing for many of us. Not in a good way either.
My heart breaks for anyone who is dealing with all forms of dementia with their loved ones. It is terrifying to me...now that it is in my DNA that I could go OUT the same as they will. I hope and pray that the new "Crisper Technology" gets here SOON and will be perfected and affordable so that none of us ever go through this hellish disease in the future. I hope I am alive to to see it...and benefit from it.

This man belongs to all of us who expected him to show up in our living rooms, bedrooms, dens and Kitchens or garages on any of the many entertaining venues we saw him appear. I love the way His family is able to rise above selfishness and pettiness to live the legacy he built. It has. Made me bury a few hatchets that needed to be junked in my immediate family. I'm so inspired about Demi being such an equal part of the family. It's beautiful & much needed with how the world is today & reminds us of what love & family should look like. 💗
It’s really awesome to see how supportive and present Demi is with Bruce and his wife.
She still thinks she is the wife and is constantly butting in.
I appreciate her sharing her sadness and how hard it is as it would be for anyone. But when people of great wealth with tons of support don't acknowledge that people who can't get medical care and emotional support are dealing with the same thing, I just kind of cringe a little . This is so hard for them and it's sad and I love Bruces work and he's a great actor and has done so well in this world. Also, he is getting the best care money can buy and is surrounded by a huge amount of love and support. I know of people who have none of that. So please remember those who have nothing and are suffering from this disease.
I traveled this road with my mom, same diagnosis and she was the same age as Bruce. It is a tough and heart wrenching journey but somehow you make it through. I will pray for you and your family and I hope it brings you some comfort to know you are not alone.

I took care of my grandmother and grandfather when they had Alzheimers / dementia it wasn't easy it was heartbreaking but I do it a million times over again with no questions asked I swear on my life I would so to everybody out there who takes care of their grandparents or parents with this disease I love you stay strong I'm with you God bless you all I love you guys
So very lovely! I lived this with my husband. One day at a time. Life is so precious. Self-care is needed in this journey. The sadness, the tears, the joys, the memories... a beautiful story in the making!

I think the helplessness is the worse.

When she said "I wasn't given a choice" hit me hard. My late mother, @ 78 developed Alzheimers that quickly progressed over the course of 1 year where she no longer knew that my sister & I were her children. That was the hardest aspect to accept. In a strange way, her developing metastatic uterine cancer at the same time was a sort of blessing, mostly for her in that she didn't fully grasp what was happening, even though she had been a geriatric RN for 30 years. She left us just as Covid vaccines were becoming available. My wish is that anyone reading thos and going through the same thing knows that you WILL find the strength, because you must.
Through sickness and health. The vows mean so much. Dementia takes from the person who has it and the family in so many ways. My grandmother had it. But she never forgot her closest family members names. She even remembered my vehicle. She's no longer with us. Now my aunt has it. My grandmother was my aunts mother. I thought we had lost my aunt about a month ago. She now has to take medication for seizures. This is something new. My grandmother symptoms were so different than my aunts.

I went through this twice in my family and yes ppl need to learn privacy and respect 💜

He may not have been the best guy but nobody deserves to go out the way he will. I’m thankful he has LOTS of family by his side.
The disease is insidious and difficult (to say the least) for loved ones to handle but having the suffer go through it alone is MUCH, MUCH worse.
I watched as a long time friend of 35 years and highly decorated veteran do just that and it made me sick every day to see him struggling alone and scared.
There is much peace at the end for those who stay behind but it takes a lot of time to get past the sadness!! My wish for your family is that you plan for and allow yourselves that time!!
Meanwhile, make as many happy memories as you possibly can with him but also remember to give him quality alone time too so he has a chance to have a personal conversation with God while he still has the ability to do so.
I don’t know what your religion is but whatever it may be, ask him often if he wants to talk to a Rabbi, Priest, Vicar or any other spiritual leader so he can have the opportunity to ask any personal questions he may have. An informed soul is a restful soul and once at rest, it can easily and quickly move forward to its rightful destination.

It's enduring that BW has such a loving and gracious wife by his side. Plus, his ex DM being there to celebrate with him. I just loved all of his movies and natural way on the screen.
Gosh I didn't know he had dementia. That's hard. But he is so very loved!
Bruce has great taste in women. Demi may not have been perfect but when you have an ex and current wife work together for the family, you know you've chosen well. If only more women could treat eachother with this level of respect.
He'll be fine as far as getting the best care possible, and his family doesn't have to worry about loss of income/home/medical bills. Why? He's got something that most who are diagnosed with the same thing don't have: oodles and oodles of money. What he's been diagnosed with is horrible, but he's in a vastly better situation than 99% of those diagnosed with the same thing. Regardless, it's horrible that anyone has dementia, more so frontotemporal dementia.
Be strong, this is a brutal disease, different episodes, different stages my heart goes out to you
