Eminem's freestyle s aren't really that good I mean he's the greatest rapper off all time in my opinion but there's sososo many young dogs that would leave him for dust sorry em fans he's a lyricist mainly.. there again most big time rappers can't freestyle 2pac is the only one I really appreciate

Going first in a battle was always considered disadvantageous because you can't use rebuttals. After this movie, choosing to go first is now considered the most badass, disrespectful move you can do. 8 Mile actually changed real rap battles forever.

Usually in movies when there’s a time limit, no film ever incorporates it on point. Much love to 8 Mile for actually using the 90 second timer accurately before they cut the music

    • maxydey42
      maxydey42 12 days ago

@SlimxShady The movies usually have more than one location where something is happening, so they either show half of the action and cut it close, or show another point of view, rewinding time which hurts the pace. It's harder to do the first and structure the sequence so we don't miss on important action. Much easier with only single location for the whole timed sequence.

    • SlimxShady
      SlimxShady 21 day ago +2

@Dirkoin “We have 60 seconds until the bomb explodes!” Proceeds to talk for 15 minutes lol. Nah, other movies could do it as well and structure lines and other things around the time limit like they do here

It is easier with music tho, you know exactly how much time a song is going to take even before recording the scene. in a lot of other films they just give an arbitrary time limit and try to keep as close to it as possible in the final edit

The acting that Anthony Mackey is performing here is stellar. He really looks surprised rabbit knows all the dirt on him, half way through the verse he noticed rabbit is better than him and you can see it in his face. Great acting.

I love Eminem because he's accepted his flaws so nobody can use them against him. He's unbeatable because in his mind, there's nothing wrong with him, and whilst people can comment on it and use it in a rap battle, he still doesn't take offense to it, because he's already accepted all of the things that their opponent is saying. :)

Don't know if the chants were their own invention kept for the film, but, for the most part it was just them enjoying it as it was a rap battle they went to spectate. When there were delays in filming these scenes, they invited people from the crowd to have a rap battle on stage, too, years ago I had the audios, I guess the videos may be out there too.

    This is 2 great things.
    1. I keep watching this and can't help but appreciate this as great film making. Everything building up to these battles, and the triumph of him just creating something so amazing.
    2. This can show the value and weight of a single rap lyric. "And Wade did fuck my girl, I'm still standing saying fuck the free world. Don't ever judge me dude, you don't know what the fuck I've been through." The summary and weight of the whole film in two painful yet powerful sentences. Makes you appreciate the value of a lyric in any rap song (that is of substance).
    So amazingly good.

    How eminem won:
    - Dissed himself.
    - Dissed his own friends.
    - Said the opponents name.

@John Irons He was living a fake life and crossing 8 Mile, like he was from there. He's afraid to show his yearbook.

The reason why those disses worked is because it’s like a fit dude, beating up a cripple. Now they have the context that whatever shit he threw at Eminem, he’d look bad simply because he had a good life while trying to being down someone with or who had less.

i never noticed when i was younger watching this, who Proof was, and why they put the camera on him so much. he was one of the battle rappers in the beginning of the movie. and now (in a real life sense) in this scene, he's watching his best friend straight kill these dudes.

Let's not forget that after failing at the rap battle Clarence joined the USAF. After leaving the military he worked with veteran's outreach until becoming the superhero 'Falcon' and later took up the mantle of Captain America.

Two important rules to remember if you are rap battling versus Eminem:
    1. *_Never Let Eminem Rap Last_*
    2. *_Never Let Eminem Rap First_*

Rabbit literally made it impossible for papa doc to beat him. He accepted who he was for the first time in the movie, notice how at the beginning of the movie he didnt want Wink and Future to tell people where he lived due to embarrassment, this shows the clear contrast of his character change, accepting who is so nothing can insult him. And then he obviously embarrasses the hell out of Papa Doc for being a fake hardman and a poser. He ultimately made it impossible for Papa Doc to even utter a breath so its understandable he choked lol
