For someone who's been away from LTT hosting for so long, he's still got it folks!Miss you on the channel Luke 😔
@GaLoSthey are especially alex but for some reason i like luke’s hosting technique a lot
@TheFlyingPineapple Agreed. I still come by to check out videos if Luke is the host. He was the main reason I watched LTT in 2013-2015.
@TheFlyingPineapple I mean, you're welcome to your opinion, of course.
@GaLoS they're decent presenters but the content itself has gone downhill
@TheFlyingPineapple No it didn't lol, James, Riley, Anthony and Alex are all great.
If Luke ever feels compelled to start hosting more shows that would be great.
LTT with out Luke is like cookies with out milk
@Lance Lindle Lee he was on this LTT video and has been on many others. Further, LTT has had many non employees on videos many times.
It's just meant to be.
@Red5 I think it is legal reasons, more accurately payroll. Legally, he is now hired under floatplane, not LTT, even if they are both under LMG. Appearing in LTT videos is considered moonlighting. WAN show on the other hand, is likely included in the contract, and is easy to factor in due to its consistency. Videos like this, he needs a separate pay.
@Red5 the legal reasons part is just what I remember from the original announcement video, maybe they said it to avoid people asking annoying questions I don't know
Luke is an incredible host, wish there was more time to make use of how well honed his skills are
Gosh darn it, Luke has a really clean presentation style, very concise and to the point, I love it!
I thought this was gonna be 100% Luke filming at his house doing the Intel Arc switch-over, but it’s just nice to have Luke on LTT more often outside of WAN Show.
@Rasho Live He was a host but changed to work to floatplane mostly
He was sick during the upgrade process so probably just wasn’t realistic without delaying the series
He's a bit more private than Linus.
We all want more Luke, Definitely still one of the best hosts. Happy for him tho seems like he enjoys his job at floatplane
Normally watch these on my tv, but this is the first video in months to make me want to comment.I miss Luke hosting LTT videos. I know that’s not his job anymore, but it always seemed to balance the Linus videos on this channel. Please host more often, Luke.
U can comment on tvs now
It feels like Luke cares sooo much about this. Linus perfectly conveys being excited but if you ever need to make a point that LMG truly cares about something: Let Luke do it!
Luke used to do all the GPU testing back in the day and it shows. In a good way.
I miss you Luke. You were a part of my childhood as much as Linus and I love you guys. Wish you were here on the main channel more.
Is this a StarWars reference?
it makes his appearances more magical though when its in a normal ltt deo
Childhood? Damn I'm old...
He hosts Techlinked too sometimes!
He on the podcast every friday!
Luke really is an amazing host.
I read that as "Luke really is amazing hot" lol
While I have no plans on buying an Intel Arc video card, I felt like this was a better done review than the one Linus put on. So with saying that, I think we need more Luke doing reviews
great video! I've missed Luke so much. I wish they could still do scrapyard wars. Maybe they should each get an actor to set up their buy and sells.
thanks for being in those videos from time to time luke, they're always fun to watch
Such an authentic video with having Luke there! Good job! 👏🏻
"we forgot about Luke" feels like forgetting to include that one student into your school project
@Kyle Hagerty Considering Linus went wayyyyy harder on Arc I'd say it's more likely they wanted to front load all the negative opinions Linus had and keep Luke's fairly standard experience for the second vid to piggyback all the negativity surrounding Arc since the first vid in a series always gets more views and popular opinion always sells better.
@AlmightyThighs haha... mine was my art school (collage)... they took it... then promptly somehow missed it on QC/QA pre-print...
"I made my family disappear!"
It would be cool, he asked Luke: “Who are you? Do you work here?”
Honestly, when I am streaming and recording at the same time I have found GPU encoding works more reliably anyway. (RTX3080Ti SuprimX) and despite what Nvidia Claims, has better fps. But I have a 12 core 24 thread CPU so it always has plenty of headroom when gaming 😁
We all say it all the time but we love Luke. His presenting style is like a hot chocolate in front of a fire on a rainy night.
I tested an A770 for my gaming streams on release weekend. Streamed to Twitch using the Arc's QuickSync X264 encoder. Had no major technical hang ups, but one big observation I made was this: On nVidia, having NVENC running your stream has virtually zero impact on game performance. Arc's QuickSync however, seemed to massively hamper performance. Offline, the game was fine, streaming, big performance hit. While doing Handbrake transcoding tests, the Arc annihilated both my 2070 Super and 3080 Ti for straight 4k H264 transcode speed, so it really is a wrecking machine for video encoding - but for streaming, when it's running the game at the same time, it's not there yet.
Duuuude Luke is such a good video presenter ahhhh. Like the good old days :’)
They didn't forget about Luke, they just knew they could get this buffer episode in while they do the next one 😉
@mb I would have watched the video as it. There was no need to make up an excuse.
@Alex Crouse They clearly stretched out the first video. Regardless how entertaining it was, they could have easily replaced much of that content with quicker summaries. LMG knows how Clip-Share works and how to farm views. That's what they're doing.
@Alex Crouse This
You're asking for stability problems powering the video card that way. You also need to tie together the grounds so the power is at the same potential.
I could feel Luke's frustration through the video lol. This is exactly why I never buy into bleeding edge tech.
Great series. Can't wait to see Part3!
I had that type of driver crashes a lot on my previous NVidea graphics card. Screen goes black, fans max out, no logs to explain the crash. Pretty sure it was a faulty module on the graphics card that died whenever it was called
Crazy thing is I just built a friend of mine a brand new PC with black friday deals and the RX6650XT we got was down to $250. Like it's not even comparable how much of a better deal it is in comparison to the Arc cards.
In other words, it's totally fine for the majority of customers(as presumably only a low percentage of people stream their gaming), particularly considering recent updates have apparently improved performance.
I am kinda testing it on Linux but waiting for Kernel 6.2 stable to try more. Currently on 6.0 with Mesa 22.3, kinda works but not as stable as I like.
As of a week ago, OBS has AV1 for both AMD RDNA3 and Intel AV1 on beta version 29!
I like Luke, he's a different tone, more angry but that also carries the point across more dramatically. He's a surprisingly nice change of pace, I hope he does more.
It is great to see Luke hosting a video once again. Honestly when I started watching the channel years ago he was hosting so often that for some time I thought he was that Linus from the channel name and the small guy was his co-host:D
I wish Luke did more videos these days, he’s a blast on Wan, but he doesn’t do any scripted stuff (besides this)
A different kind of angry lol
One the original team members still there
"Mom! I want a new GPU!""We have new GPU at home"New GPU at home:
It's kind of wild that Arc struggles where Intel iGPUs shine, like with hardware encoding. I've used Quick Sync for streaming to keep the load off my Nvidia dedicated GPU and it's always been solid.
that's the thing Intel's iGPUs have had years to work out all the kinks but Arc is starting from scratch so you get all the funk and weird issues that come with it. hopefully this challenge can be like what the Linux challenge was and fix a lot of those issues.
Luke is just made for hosting these - loved it, oldschool vibes!
I want more Luke SPICY TAKES. I want a channel dedicated to Luke and Linus rants. would just have it running in the background it brings me inner peace.
I wonder if intel can just implement that shoopy that makes 30fps lookl like 200 fps. That would be a big FU to AMD and Nvidia.
Sounds like Intel prematurely released the ARC cards. They have some smoothing around the edges to take care of.
I'd like to get an A770 for making videos but as someone who lives in the UK. Getting one for the MSRP price is a struggle since there's virtually no supply here. Hoping in the coming months there will be more
Running to two power supplies like you are doing is a really bad idea. Since the DC voltages are coming from too different transformers, there may be a lot of current flow between the power supplies through your GPU and mainboard. This may actually have been the reason for your hard blue screen crash.
They did Luke dirty. Also love seeing more of Luke again
We all miss this guy in normal content so much!
@CyFr's Cornerevery time
@TheCyberQuake if you look up the OG video of his Intel tech upgrade or maybe it was the meme vid (just Luke laughs) somebody commented something like “Luke’s laugh is like how a character laughs in One Piece” and I stand by it!
@Austin Allman they still forgot about him .. they dindt tho
@Austin Allman I meant for the joke at the start where they "forgot about Luke"
I'm still using my antec high current pro from back then. No joke, 100% uptime minus reboots and a random night once or twice a year where I actually turn the machine off. vast majority of the time it was on an OC 3930k. now its in my new daily driver with a x5800 and 2080ti. 2011ish to today. I did try to OC today with my 5800x for the first time and I think I'm hitting the power limit or its on its last leg. no BSOD or watchdog. it just cuts out and resets like when i had the 2080 on one 12V rail.
Im surprisd arc even actually came out with their issues
Luke seemed confused, even disoriented, that he was hosting an LTT video. This quickly resolved itself, he wasn't nearly as rusty as I first thought, and steamed right ahead to be ON POINT and well executed throughout! 😃
@Gravity Misspelling words is always bad when you tell someone they are "dumb." It's meant to be a light hearted joke.
what a duuuhm underhanded compliment
If you're so concerned about realtime encoding just build a second PC and run Restreamer on that. With Restreamer you can ingest a 100mbps uncompressed NVENC stream from your primary PC and then run software encoding on the stream with a second, beefier server, and then forward the stream off to Twitch at a more modest bitrate with higher (software) quality. These new codecs are only ways to inch closer to software quality, but they'll never quite be there and the only real way to get the best looking stream is to use a CPU.
It was honestly such a treat having Luke in this video!! I remember when Luke used to solely host some videos and I forgot how great of an on-camera presence he is!!
cant wait for part 3
I really enjoy seeing Luke host again .
Why is Linus' mic quality on the live stream absolutely terrible..? He's like THE tech guy, he has the dopest setup for live-streaming, and yet his bitrate is SO low that he has an artifthial lithp on the thtream. It's bothering me a lot that Linus of all people have such abysmal audio quality while streaming
With Luke not being in produced videos anymore I completely forgot how great he is in front of a camera. Great video!
@Squitdoogenz thanks for the pleasant internet discussion. Doesn’t happen all that often.
@Chris Perry I'm glad you think so. :D
@Squitdoogenz been listening to the latter part of the episode and you’re right, way more engaged and engaging.
@Chris Perry Extra note. Regarding the "I don't want to get into it" comment Luke makes, my interpretation is that it's his way of saying it's too risky to comment on publically. This is potentially because he recognises he lacks sufficient understanding as you suggested, but I think it's more because Luke recognises it's likely controversial, and he's fairly conflict/controversy averse. Linus on the other hand... Lmao
Came for the part 2, stayed for the Luke rant.
when i changed my GPU from a small Zotac 1050Ti to a giant RTX 3080 in comparison, i almost needed a hacksaw to make space in the case! but physical stuff aside, intel as always sucked in the GPU department, even on integrated ones.for example, i have a core duo and it's iGPU can't even run minecraft since it does not support OpenGL, so my impression of them in the GPU field is that they are barely capable of outputting colors on a screen... so past displaying your desktop is outside their current know how/expertise.there are a few things they need but i think having DX7to DX11 sorted out plus OpenGL 1.0 to the newest versions (4.5?) is definitely a good goal! (mid tiers cards should be able to play those mid tiers games on those APIs you expect them to be made for.)
okay now buy the entire writing staff intel arcs and force them to use it for a month
I love Luke so much. I know he doesn't love being on film, but he has such a chill, genuine presence. A great foil to Linus' energy.
I've missed Luke, man. More videos with him please. - He works great in this format.
I agree, Luke is a great host.
we want more luke :)
More Luke videos? I forgot how great of a host he is. His presentation and energy was great here
The blooming effect In Halo Infinte is def an ARC problem. Haven't found a way to fix it yet. I've done everything I could think of to try to fix it
This does not sound like it's entirely Intel's fault. Clearly other companies need to enable to encoding support for the Arc cards.
Seeing a Luke hosted Episode again feels Nostalgic, he did quite well
The A770 is actually a better content creation/productivity GPU than a gaming GPU. A derivative for the A770 would be great for servers.
Part 3 I'm excited
Rally good Cutter, the segway is awesome.👍
When will pt3 get published?
OBS 29 pre-release builds already support Intel AV1 encoding, it also supports AMD RDNA3 AV1 encoding, which you might want to do some tests and comparisons with when you get hands on the new cards
@n0k0m3 The beta has been out for a week, plenty of time to cut that part of the video out or issue a correction.
@CoMaNdO it was useless during the filming. The arc challenge part 1 was done filming before obs release their 29 beta. And at least from the clue in WAN show it was definitely started soon after the WAN show a month ago when Linus challenged Luke, which the commit for QSV AV1 wasn't even there yet, in fact QSV AV1 commit was made 1 day before 29 beta was released.
@andrybak There's quite a difference between something not existing to something that is available, beta or not, the video praises the inclusion of NVENC AV1 but calls the Intel encoder "useless" because it's not available, that isn't true with version 29, which DOES exist and WILL release in about a month.
@Eddiemate Before jumping to streaming knowing the cost of using these new encoders will be valuable either way, they could be tested for their performance impacts, or compared against each other for quality. AV1 IS a future tech in streaming, but the video talked down about the Intel encoder for not being available in OBS, unlike the Nvidia encoder.
The problem with that is the streaming platforms don’t have the support for it yet. Using AV1 for recording is good and all, but the moment you try streaming it, services will be confused.
Is part 3 never coming? :(
Man, was it great to have Luke host a video. We need him more often!
God i love how honest and straight to the point luke is. I miss him so much need more of him
Intel Arc's first attempt to end the duopoly.
God I miss Luke hosting videos he’s so good I know he over sees other stuff now. And I see him on Wan show but I love him doing videos
Bloody overlays... luckily after restarting W10, i was asked by defender if the arc driver was allowed to run - because an overlay stopped me clicking/moving anything on the desktop.
It was nice to see Luke in this video and not just on the WAN show.
Not considering the future benefits makes sense if you buy a GPU every 2 years, but if you buy every 10 years then you need to consider what the future is
Does any one know if there will be a part 3? its been a while since this video
Ahhh man so good to see Luke hosting. Definitely want more Luke hosting regular LTT videos!
When are these fabled Intel GPUs finally going to be available for us mere mortals to purchase? None of my local (ie, any in my entire country) tech stores have any, nor even know exactly when they will start to have any. All I want is an a380...
@Nosloveingneko Sadly none of the ARC GPUs even exist ("sorry, we can't find this item") on NewEgg when you set the region to NZ
You can only order them through newegg
He sure seems to have the same inflections as Linus.
You’ve got to find a way to get Luke in front of the camera more. He’s and elite host, please come back
Love for Luke! Glad he gets to do dev work but we always appreciate him in videos!
nice to see Slick come back
I really want arc to succeed...
Steve told all these issues about Intel companion app. Lol they still haven't fixed it.
Luke really kills it in these kinds of videos. I’m sure he likes doing the floatplane stuff more, and is probably far more useful there, but this makes me really wish Luke Tech Tips made a comeback again, if only for a little while.
I scanned the QR code... I don't know what else I was expecting
More luke videos!
More Luke, and Anthony please.
8:13 RTX 3060 for $350 ?? YOU AMERICANS HAVE IT SO EASYYY!!my freaking country(Cyprus) locally sells RTX 3060 for €479 (euro) and that's the cheapest one I could find, they go all the way up to €600!RX6650 XT? that goes for €499! yeah that sucks
Arc H264/5 encoding is also super competitive with NVENC and AMD's encoder. I'm not sure what's up with you all not being able to stream with it, I haven't had any major issues. Arc AV1 in OBS is already in the beta OBS video as of last week.
@GhostMiner i have a celeron n4000 laptop, and another pentium laptop, and a i3 1005G1 laptop, even there, obs outperforms bandicam. my first ever laptop was a celeron laptop which i used bandicam on to record minecraft at a whopping 10 fps in 2012. pretty sure tho that even there, gpu encoding is better4 cores 8 threads sounds good but fr it's really not....bandicam simply cant compete even if it did have gpu encoding, simply because again, less customisability and less 3rd party plugin support, it's paid and can't really record compressed video without sacrficing tons of quality
@Celatra btw. Bandicam CAN record in H.265 😉
@Celatra "8 cores, 4GHz base clock" + 250GB SSD with 1TB HDDJust this alone says that you haven't even touched an actual low end hardware. 😅I'm talking about Intel Celeron hardware level. 😂

@Celatra what are you system specifications then?
Please have Luke start hosting videos again!!
Awesome job Luke, love your vids and when you host.
Seeing Luke actually hosting a video after all this time is really great :D
love me some luke hosting
The gear icon on the top right of the driver page gives you an option to check for updates within the overlay. I never noticed that UI elements behind the overlay can still be highlighted but not clicked, that's kinda funny. It's been improving for me, I'm hoping it will get better over time.
Why is Luke so pissed off? 😆Can't remember the last time I've seen him this annoyed.
Imagine spending a whole day working quite hard. You come home for a break. Only to realise your source of entertainment has been downgraded.I'd be cranky too
Luke is an undervalued asset. He was one of the reasons why I started watching LTT.
You can update the drivers in the application BTW, it has more than just a link in the overlay. Also, it tells you that you can launch the overlay with Alt-i or just open it from the start menu. The fact it is only available as an overlay was a weird decision though.
It's so nice to have more and more Luke hosted content
Love seeing Luke back. I know he’s got floatplane to deal with, but I’d love the occasional Luke hosted video each month. His fallout bomb pc is still one of my favorite LTT videos.
I thought it was deliberate to show Linus first then Luke's build and he was just in there at the end as a teaser
Always great to see ya, Luke. For those missing Luke in regular content, may I suggest The WAN Show, watch or listen live or VOD / Podcast. Luke's laugh is life xD
Great vid, also these phishing bots that Google still has not removed, are being desperate now lmao.
I love seeing Luke on the channel again I remember him and Linus back in 2014 would crack me up glad to see him back!
Luke should do a few videos a month. I love the way he comes across as an everyday man. Still like linus but Luke is more relatable in the tech world. He is always on a budget despite the fact he could probably splurge and buy what ever he wanted.
Justice for Luke!Intels software problems baffles me because they have been doing igpus sooo long. Somebody really dropped the ball.
Its just very hard to do. AMD only recently surpassed Nvidia's driver quality after decades of work. It might take a generation or two for Intel to catch up. DGPUs require very different memory management and attention to PCIe and DMA vs iGPUs.
