Rory McIlroy will take centre stage at this year’s Dubai Desert Classic as the DP World Tour continues its desert swing in the Middle East. The World No.1 will be teeing it up at the second Rolex Series event of the season, alongside compatriot and 2022 BMW Championship winner Shane Lowry, and former Ryder Cup teammate Francesco Molinari. Winner of last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Victor Perez will once again be in action, hoping to continue his excellent form. Two-time winner of the event Stephen Gallacher will be making a remarkable 23rd appearance and the Dubai Desert classic and remains the only player in its 33-year history to have achieved back-to-back wins in Dubai.

@Barry Lenihan true, and an interesting way to see it... It still cost him the title regardless. I know Reed is deeply unliked by most, but you can't cheat your way to -18 par and it was bloody unlucky to get stuck in that tree in the first place.
@Rob K Fairness as you represent it doesn't apply to the Rules of Golf. Fairness to all other fellow-competitors requires that Rules are adhered to. A lost ball requires the player to repeat the previous stroke, plus a penalty stroke.

Not only that, but when you watch the conversation between Reed and the official, it seems like his story changes.
At first he’s saying “I think that’s mine.” Then the official is explaining to Reed that he needs to unequivocally identify his ball in the tree in order to get a drop. Then suddenly Reed understands and is like “oh yeah that’s absolutely mine”.
Even if his ball DID land in that tree, it’s pretty clear that he lied in order to bend the rules in his favour.

@Rob K incorrect the rules of golf are clear on this one, 100% surety of identification of the ball. The official took the players word which turned out to be untruthful
Congratulations Rory. I'm so happy for him winning. The reason Rory is my favorite golfer. From hole #1 thru #18. He could be 18 over par or 18 under par, either way you would not really know by his demeanor. He's cool, calm, and collective through good, or bad shots. Now he gets amped up when he hits a good shot thats for sure. Mr Cool as Ice i believe is getting into another gear, so golf world.....Get ready...
Rory let his clubs do the talking this week. Absolutely stoked that he won. He was clutch down the stretch and showed restraint to lay up on 18 and not make the same mistake and risk handing Reed the trophy. Keep the fire for April and Augusta and that green jacket is yours!!
It would have been an intense playoff with Patricia and Rory. Hopefully we get to see these two head to head this season.

In a way Rory should thank LIV golf, Greg Norman, Patrick Reed etc for jump starting his career. After getting a 200 mil contract from Nike Rory sleep walked thru many years of his prime. It was frustrating for me as a fan to only see flashes of his great talent and nothing more. But LIV golf got his Irish temper up and he is responding brilliantly. Fun to watch a major talent play hard again.

I loved it from start to finish..... massive mental game because of the real added rivalry....and he came out on top....big mistake by reed on the 17th going in the bush..... Rory is the reason I got into golf in the first place.... although if watched tiger longer....love it that he won....him and rahm will be tough to beat at the ryder cup....🔥🔥
So happy for Rory to do the business with his b or c game. Mentally awesome though, good decision making, and for me that has been his biggest improvement over the last couple of years'. There were times I wondered what on earth he was thinking, and for a pro his course and game management used to be terrible imho. That department was what won it for him this week. He's my favourite golfer by a million miles. I have a really good feeling about this season for him.

It feels like Rory started to play well since the LIV vs PGA drama because it gave him another focus point and motivation. He stepped up each time he had to go into a marquee match-up against a LIV player. Smith at tour championship and now Reed. Let's keep up the focus and complete the career grand slam at the Masters!!!

There were four LIV tour players in the top 10, but you'd never have known it from the Sky broadcast, which mentioned them as infrequently as possible.
Incorrect sky gave loads of time to the LIV players

Ball Yeah there should be more gratitude for sure, but maybe just maybe some of what Rory and the PGA etc are doing is playing up to the Netflix cameras and manufacturing some drama for the series starting next month. Because golf hasn't had this much beef since I started watching during the prime Tiger era.

@John Wood Not so. The weighting is determined by the importance of the event, the quality of the field, and when the event was played over a two year cycle. Though no system is perfect, do you have any thoughts on what would be a better approach given your dislike of the current OWGRs.
