      Wasatch Wind 7 days ago

Yeah, I'm trying to decide how I feel about them. They were added in intentionally, if you didn't know.
And the Disney you're probably thinking of was in the 60s through the 80s when Disney was using the xerox process, where rather than the animation being inked nicely before going to coloring, they would effectively photocopy it, immediately getting outlines to paint, resulting in rougher animation.

I honestly feel like I relate to Freckle on a personal level sometimes. I'm that one person that tries to be the most mature person in their friend group, but every now on then, I let my inner idiot 5 yr old run wild to cure my boredom for a few hours. Whether it's doing something that I would usually find embarrassing, or going on a theme park ride I wouldn't usually ride, chaos will ensue one way or another

    • jordan hicks
jordan hicks 22 days ago +32

Freckle isnt letting an inner 5 year old out.
He has emotional issues and deep instability masked by his usually calm nice guy demeanor.
Like he tried to tell pepper, he has a burning raging fire inside that comes out occasionally, usually resulting in manic behavior and violence.
That's why he got kicked off the police force, there was an "incident" during training. Most likely where he snapped and bad things happened.

      Harmony 22 days ago +14

After watching Lackadaisy Pilot, I think it deserves to be turned into a series because of the creativity of Tracy J Butler and partly because there are many popular animated series for adults like The Simpson, Family Guy, Bojack Horseman,... The producers should reconsident this, because they are missing out on a very potential web comic, i hope to see that web comic turn into a series one day. Wish Tracy, Fable and the crew dreams come true.

Now THIS is what I want to see come out of “adult” animation. No excessive swearing nor oversaturated with nudity, sexual innuendos, and/or gore-filled violence. Just beautiful animation and a well-written, mature storyline!
EDIT: I can’t believe I have to clarify this but no, I am not attacking Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel. In fact I very purposefully did not mention those series because (1) I didn’t want to put down another independent animated series (especially since I like them) and (2) there are SO many more examples out there of animated shows and movies that rely on violence, sex, and crudeness to justify it being “for adults.” Sausage Party, South Park, Big Mouth, Velma, Family Guy, a good portion of the Love Death and Robots series, etc. Those are just the first couple that come to my head. My only intention with this comment was to express how refreshing it felt to me personally to see an adult animation that carried itself without these elements. That is all.

I was blown away with the quality of this animated movie. The attire of each character, the way they act, the music, the dialogue, a truly hidden gem about cats within the prohibition era. What really caught me was the music, I can't stop bobbing my head to the first track, Olive Branch, during the short chase scene. I look forward to binge reading the comics.

A little late to the party, but I love this way too much lol. Not only is the animation beautifully fluid, the characters all feel so unique with their own personalities. And the sound design! I am absolutely in love with this already, hope it gets the full series it deserves. Everyone involved in the creation of this should be proud. :)

This has to be one of the best animations of this year! The team has been working on this for quite a while, and it showcases it in all its bright glory!
Although there are moments when we can still see the sketch animation lines, it is still the most wonderful and spectacular pilot ever!! 10/10

Not sure how I stumbled across this, but I'm glad I did, excellent pilot episode. Great fluid stylish animation along with excellent character design. Mature AND fun, with genuinly funny moments. The voice acting was also very good! Well done to all involved on this, this is great stuff.

I love how with, the "Sentimental about old times line", this guy's already set up, you start getting nervous as he walks out at 9:10, and start getting even more worried when even Rocky starts getting serious as he realizes what's going on at 9:20. Amidst the chaos and gunfire, this is the guy you really have to worry about.

It's the kind of subtle characterization that I feel is completely absent in modern Hollywood. Lackadaisy has some actual dadgum villains, and I love it.

    • TheAdvertisement
      TheAdvertisement 3 hours ago +1

@Wasatch Wind I think Hollywood's kinda confused on what a villain even is at the moment. Committing to a badass villain like this and setting him up as a genuinely terrifying threat in masterful ways like these needs to be brought back!

    • Wasatch Wind
Wasatch Wind 3 hours ago +1

@TheAdvertisement Yeah, it feels like such a classic dynamic. The villain that feels like they could waver morally, that interacts more with the protagonists - and then the big bad who is total evil.
It's great in the OT Star Wars, great in Last Airbender.
I miss it so much from modern western animation. I don't know why they're so afraid of making a bad guy.

as a historian for the early 1900s this is genuinely thought through and accurate to the era. Especially when the car battery died and she had to grab the crank from the floorboard. That blew me away. This is so well done that

The pure unhinged madness that bubbles and bursts from within the minds of the characters is epic, they all feel like real cat people who have instincts, dreams and hopes, and most of all a sense of humor even though they know their lives are in danger, mainly because they are still young and wanna experience thrills without a care, but realize things about themselves they didn't know they had. This was just crazy fun. I hope this series explodes!!!! Just like the explosives in this short. 😉 💥

Just so unironically good, everything about this is perfect, the setting, the characters, the character's designs.
I like this way more than Hazbin Hotel, it takes itself more seriously and there are just amazing scenes where suspense is amplified by silence and ambience.
I love the scene at 12:52 and the lighting of the characters, such a cool fight scene between Freckle and Mordecai, the ambience for it is amazing.
You guys also took advantage of the fact that they're cats and played into it properly by allowing them to climb better but also be afraid of water and I love that.

The events in the comic itself happen in the course of what, a week? It’s 170+ pages, yes, but between those not much happens that couldn’t be panned out in 5 or 6, maybe a season, of episodes. It would make for a banger 5 or 6 introducing episodes tho
