as a bbody tech i can tell you for a fact that the tower has moved as well as the whole front has probably shifted to the right, i love the fact that you are rebuilding it but take it to a shop so they can measure it and so they can fix the structural damage, the car is not bad at all i have repaired way worse but it takes years of practice to know how to do it properly and for all others that are watching this content please do not attempt to fix structural damage unless you are qualified to do so and also you have the right tools

Hey Mat don't forget to add those LCI front and rear lights when you get to that part. You probably are gonna do it based on your way of doing things. The facelifted version looks 100 times better in my opinion. I love this BMW model, one of my favorites.

I am currently just going back through all the playlists and and videos on this channel as i only came across it about a month ago and need to catch up because it is awesome and Mat is a total legend :)
One of the things that does make me laugh is Mat always says "I know people are going to hate me for this" but i can honestly say i don't think i have seen a negative or bad comment or even a thumbs down on any video yet.
@Mat who cares about the hatters anyway there are far more of us that love you and the content you give us keep it coming

    Hey Matt.
Although that front cross member went in relatively easy, both chassis leg ends have probably moved over half a centimetre. You need to get them straightened up or you can easily run into fitment issues when putting the car back together.
    Just saying!

    • Lyam Shah
Lyam Shah 5 months ago +13

    • Jimmy
      Jimmy 5 months ago +2

Looks like you got pretty lucky with the damage, i’d check that frame rail on all axis’ to determine which way its out, as far as that strut mount its probably attatched with 3m panel bond, go to a Lotus dealer and ask to buy their panel bond adhesive or what they use.

Thank you fort he upload Mat! Very entertaining! Lots of upgrades that you can do e.g. new fuel lines: air intakes; turbos, choice is yours but as you will enjoy this ride & then sell it you might as well take it to the next level. I expect an additional 100HP to be added from a stage one upgrade.

Hey Mat, love your outlook on life. Keep it going. One question and something I struggle with, how the hell do you store all the bits you take off so you have a chance of finding them when the time comes to put it back together? I can’t even keep my tools safe 13mm socket safe for more than a few minutes

  • Jonathan Smith
Jonathan Smith 5 months ago +163

For reference mat boats used to be riveted together and planes still are, it gives the ability to flex while still being strong, top tip for doing the strut, take photos or a video of the whole removal process taking notice of the points where the bonding glue is used because you'll probably find it's not one continuous seam. Hope you find that useful. Good luck.

@Wayne Pantry what mat doesn't do is map things out as he pulls them apart, he admits this very often, so rather than trying to be a big man be useful or keep your comments to yourself. As a mechanic and mot tester for 20 years I know what happens when you just blast into pulling something new apart you get excited by how easily it's going then when you go to pit it back together half the time you have no idea how you took it apart.

Hey Mat, as a current F90 M5 comp owner ( which also happens to be Donnington Grey) this rebuild will be of a specific interest to me. The M5 is an incredible car, and in standard spec will destroy most cars on the road and embarrass some super car owners all in the comfort of a 5 seater saloon with golf clubs in the boot. I have been a subscriber to your channel for some time now and know how you like to add your own little mod touches to your builds so I will be interested to see what mods you have planned for this, some upgraded LCI headlights & tail lights is a good starting point with maybe a stage 1 or 2 tune, but these cars already put out masses of power. I am more than happy to provide my car as a reference for any checks or measurements you would like to do.
Keep up the incredible work with the channel, the content is right on the money, this is the only channel i sunscribe too and don't know where you find the time to be honest. Merry Christmas to you and your team and looking forward to the next instalment in the M5 rebuild
