There is Afshin as a coach…and than some. Best I ever had. Not only as a player, but as a human being!
Seems like a good experienced coach. It would be nice to see him coach in the US. Perhaps MLS.

As an American, the Iranian National Team is to be respected. They might not have household names, but they still have good players in top to mid tier European Teams. So I think it will be a great match and something tells that both Iran and the US will upset England and come out of this group!
This’ll be a physically tough match, Iran is a gritty 1 goal win too draw team. US will have to out pace and score early. I expect a draw at some point in the group stage for the USA and this might be the match

I am an Iranian.. 20 years ago I knew most of Iran players’ names. I also knew this man Afshin Ghotbi which was our head coach for some time back then… He was too soft for the harsh environment in Iran. He was very good for the US women team though…
But today I know none of the Iranian players at all.. I don’t know the current head coach too. So I also got educated about the Iran team like you guys...
In the previous world cup Carlos Queiroz was Iran’s head coach who had an annual salary of 2 million USD. That was when Iran could pay such amounts to its head coach. But when Trump sanctioned Iran, Carlos Queiroz noticed Iran would not be able to pay his salary anymore. So he resigned from his position of 8 years. So the US has already weakened Iran’s team in this team. I remember this scene in the movie Gladiator (2000):
“Commodus visits Maximus beneath the Colosseum. He stabs him in the back and then orders Quintus to cover up the wound. But despite Commodus' treachery, Maximus still wins.”
So Iran has already got stabbed in the back due to the US sanctions and has covered its injury but could despite it, win the match against the US? We have to wait until November for the answer.
