The fact that they finally got rid of the glaucoma test makes me feel like I already have a “back in my day life was worse” story.
I wanna know when they did this, maybe I just go to shitty eye doctors for both my work requirements and my contact lenses but even last summer I was still taking the blast of air in the eye.
Who am I kidding I know my work sends me to a shitty eye doctor.
@Nunya Business I go every year or two for contacts and I’ve never seen it either, and I just went back in December. I’d love to know since it would solve a 20 year long phobia of mine lol
wait a minute when the hell did they get rid of the blast of air because I just got an exam 2020 and they still did it.
I just got an eye exam on the 18th of March and they still did the glaucoma test on me. Maybe they just didn't have it in my area or something but I feel scandalized

Things sure have changed in the last 20 or so years, and I am wholeheartedly on Team Eye Doctor, 2023. I love how nervous Brewstew gets about the glaucoma test, only for it to actually be a little tickle on his eyeball. And how the jumpscare at 1:13 was so quiet and suppressed, yet it still scared the crap out of him.

This reminds me of the time I had a tiny unknown foreign object stuck in my left eye and had to go to the clinic in the historic area of Medina to get it taken out.

As someone who has had 10 plus eye surgeries and developed glaucoma via an eye injury at age 5 I have been to the eye doctor a lot like a lot lot. The new glaucoma machines are so much better than what was used 20 years ago. Also amazing spot on funny video. keep up the good work BrewStew.

They put a circular suction cup shaped object under your eyelid, like they lip the eyelid over it

Love the accuracy here. I've had bad eyes for over 25 years and get an exam once a year. A lot has definitely changed for the better. The puff of air is way better. When they dilate your eyes it used to last all day, now it's only a few hours. We still get those rolled up sunglasses though.
This is now made better by the fact that i work in an eye doctor's office😂

The little gun for the glaucoma test makes me flinch EVERY TIME. The nurse asked me if I was ok because my eyes were wide tf open and I was prepared for it 😂
Optometrist here: For the glaucoma test, it depends what equipment the place you're going to has. I have the puff machine in one of my offices and patients *hate* it, but it's really fast and easy for me.
Also, that steampunk-lookin' thing is called a phoropter. Thanks for the laugh. We get compared as 'better than the dentist' a lot.

I’m about to turn 30 and have never been to an eye doctor. Man it’s great having perfect vision 😂
I can totally relate! Been going through this crap for the last two months, and Tuesday I have a consultation for cataract surgery, it's not like they'll throw me down and rip out my eyeballs, but I'm still chicken shit about it.
Loved this. I never needed glasses until I was in my 30s, still only need them for night blindness, but my experience with my new eye doctor was amazing compared to the assholes I dealt with as a kid.
I love this because I still have to go through the old glaucoma test (horrible) and everytime I see your version of it kills me, especially remembering it from your old video

Just a heads up for people who hate being dilated at the eye doc - you can usually ask for 0.5% tropicamide drops instead of the super strong ones a lot of the time. You won’t stay dilated for nearly as long.
Proper storage is also important, the solution tends to oxidate with time. Or maybe it's the heat?
Keep that stuff in the fridge until use.
Just tell them "no dialation" since it is a pure scam 🙄
@Remi Lafleur this is extremely true for drops that treat glaucoma, as well as Post-Op drops.
@KX I appreciate your viewpoint, especially if you have naturally large pupils. Dilation, a lot of the time, allows for a good view of the *back* of the eye, which is more susceptible to tears. If you are young and healthy, without eye disease, denying dilation is fine.

The entire field has become so much better over the last 20 years it's crazy. At this rate tricorders wouldn't surprise me at 2060.
The old days eye doctor looks exactly like the one I went to when I was a kid. He got mad at me when I had to pick number one or two and said "Number two I guess." He said "I GUESS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH! WE HAVE TO GET IT EXACTLY RIGHT!" I told him "They look the same!" (Which they did.) And he said "NO! THEY'RE DIFFERENT!" So yeah, you got that old school eye doctor down perfectly.
I recently had my own eye appointment, Brew Stew. Got a new prescription. Now I just have to make time to get the glasses. Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.
The part I hated most at the eye doctor was probably the peripheral vision test. You feel paranoid as hell because you’re not allowed to move your eyes but you’re trying to watch the corners without moving your 👁️.

I went to the eye doctor many times in VA and they always got my eyesight wrong for my glasses. But once I moved to WV, I went because my eyes needed new glasses and holy shit I could see like new, way better than my last ones. But I will agree, I hate that Glaucoma test but I didn't get that when I last went. Also great video as always, had me laughing good.

Awesome. Love the icare device in there. Game changer for people that actually have glaucoma and have to monitor it too. Both my wife and daughter have it, and I've been testing their pressures for years with one at home. Same model too. :) Bad news on the $35 to avoid dilating your eyes: the eye doctor next door explained that the machine replacement for whatever that test/observation is just doesn't do anywhere near as good of a job. Still neat though when my eye doctor used it on me.
