movie - the menu (2022)
context:
the girl (margot) went to this restruant called hawthorn. the chef used to enjoy cooking but after a while lots of rich people and critics came to his restruant which made him unhappy and bored of cooking so he invites them over but margot is not meant to be theyre because she is not appart of the "rich" or the critics.
long story short - towards the end she hasnt eaten anything so she tells the chef that she wants a cheese burger and the chef cooks it and while he is cooking it it makes him happy and remember his enjoyment for cooking so he lets margot go but the everyone else (the rich/food critics/chefs/and himself) have to stay and he ends up b*rning the building with all of them.
@aedevii love u💞💗💕
@aedevii the meat in the cheese burger was probably the meat in the freezer thingy i forgot about it
@aedevii GIRL WE LOVE YOU
If anyone wanted to know an explanation more than the plot of the movie.
She was allowed to leave because she reminded the chef of the beauty and pride he took in cooking his first simple and fulfilling meal. A cheeseburger.
The entire point of killing everyone was showing the problem with the rich and people making cooking into a vicious mess and embarrassment to what cooking meant when you had the passion of cooking.
She gave him that feeling one last time and was allowed to leave.
That and the guests were hand selected for specific reasons. She had no sins to pay for in his eyes on top of showing him she was different than everyone else who was there.
That she knew the simplicity and beauty in cooking and eating, enjoying your meal and feeling sufficed, not always craving more, like a chefs passion to perfect an art that can't be truly perfected to a perfectionist
Edit: When I said for those who want to know more than what every explanation said.
"Ontop of that, she had no sins to pay for in his eyes as the guests were hand selected"
That was alluding to the fact that she was paid to be his date there and not meant to be on the guest list in the first place .
That's the entirety.
Thank you, because I read the other comment and still didn’t understand
Second comment 😮
Don't forget that she actually wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. Another girl was supposed to take her place.
it's literally like the book by agatha christie "and then there were none"
Thank you for that.
She was smart. When she snuck into his room, she noticed that the only photo with him smiling was when was still working at a burger joint. His career and strive for perfection destroyed his soul, so she saved herself by stirring up his happy memories of when he first started cooking. You can see this in the chef’s face as he’s making the cheeseburger, he begins to crack smiles slowly until he’s full on smiling when he serves her.
This is the best explanation of his motivation, this comment needs more likes
@Marshall Halls I interpreted this movie as being about burn out. Losing passion for something you once loved because of the pressures we’re forced to endure
@Luis Ozuna That's also a great way to look at it!!
that lady encouraging her to go was one of the most gut wrenching parts of the film for me
This movie called Menu was fucking crazy and I loved it
Nah my man is called Elizabeth💀💀💀
The line “my eyes were bigger than my stomach” is so perfect for her lol
why?
@DracoFNshe has big eyes
@addie ohhh
She just got lucky that she managed to catch a glimpse of that photo of a younger version of him happy to have made his cheeseburger.
I doubt he would've killed her cos she wasn't shallow, money hungry, rude rich person, and she never visited the restaurant before where as everyone else did and they treated that guy badly
@hsk.18 yes he would. At one point he said you're just like them and you do belong with them after she tricked him and tried to escape
@L T and then he changed his mind
@hsk.18 the word you used was "would have". It is not definitive but a possibility. There is a possibility his character would have killed her. It is indicated in the movie as such. What saved her was her wit. It was not because he didn't want to kill her. At the end, she saved herself from him wanting to kill her. It wasn't about her character. He knew her character when he talked to her in the kitchen about both of them working in the service industry and gave her a choice. He could have just let her go. But no. He decided to kill her.
Spoilersss!!!!!!
He only let her go because she was not in the guest list. He invited only rich-arrogant people who didn’t appreciate his cooking the way he wanted. She was lower class and killing her didn’t seem fair to him.
i knew if i kept waiting id eventually see all the crucial points of this movie in youtube shorts lmao
I love how she just gets out a cult ritual because she said the food wasn’t to her liking 💀
wdym she literally said “now thats a cheeseburger” she did enjoy it which is why she got to leave. right? The others were never satisfied the rich.
@Nailsbyaraidk if u watched the movie but in the movie before she gets served the cheeseburger she complains that the food is shit
that’s not what she said. if you watched the movie you would know that he’s a killer who used to be a chef and really all he wanted was to be shown that he can still cook great food she basically said she was full and asked to take the rest to go she never said she didn’t like it in fact she actually said “now that is a cheeseburger” saying it’s was great
No he wanted the satisfaction of someone genuinely enjoying his meal. She noticed in pictures that the only time he smiled was when he first opened and made cheeseburgers. Also, everyone there wad pre selected to be there except her. The guy she came with was supposed to be with someone else but they canceled or something last minute.
@Sabir they broke up
Explanation
So basically the movie is called THE MENU and in it there is a restaurant on a stranded island for super rich people. This girl is not rich but her boyfriend was. They went to the restaurant together but weird things started happening. She realized that No one was going to escape this restaurant alive as this chief was a big narcissist who hated it whenever everyone said anything bad about his food. He was sick of his art just being eaten and people just forgetting about it so he decided to kill himself, his employees and all his customers. They tried to escape but they couldn't as the restaurant was in the middle of nowhere. Turns out her boyfriend was crazy about food and wanted to impress the Chief BADLY and he even knew before coming here that they were gonna die but he didn't care. He tried to impress the Chief by making something but the Chief said it was terrible so he suicided. They told this girl to get something (idk what) so she went out and snuck into where the Chief lived. A maid followed her and tried to kill her but she killed the maid instead. She snuck into the chiefs room and saw a bunch of stuff like him making a cheeseburger which was the only time he looked happy. She also saw a telephone so she called someone to come save them. He came and they were able to tell him to help them but turns out the person who came to save them were with the restaurant. So she thought of a plan. She told the Chief how terrible his food was and that he took the fun out of eating. Then this happened (what happens in the video) and she leaves. Every body else is covered with marshmallows and roasted. She eats her cheeseburger on a boat while everything is burning behind her
You can SEE the genuine happiness when she gave him the compliment he was craving. It's great 😁 Lol
I think that’s why she was allowed to leave, she wasn’t originally on the guest list and thus had nothing to atone for in the chefs eyes, and one final satisfied down to earth customer is a nice way to end your final menu
Not Voldemort becoming a psycho chef after failing to take down a child 😭😭😂
I was like, I've seen this dude somewhere 💀
Omg that’s so wrong
HE HE HE
I chuckle aha
The boy who lived, come to dine
She satisfied his hunger 😊 he was starving to feed someone and he died knowing , he filled someone’s stomach & heart ❤
IMAGINE: being a director, story writer, screen writer, art director, music director, lead props, lead makeup, stunt performer, camera man, lighting, actors, actresses that work painstakingly to develop this whole new world with the goal of unraveling this amazing story only to have it summarized by the same critics of note in “The Menu”. I love this movie because it’s so relatable to anyone who’s ever had a passion.
"Unfortunately my eyes were a little bigger than my stomach."
"I understand, your eyes are bigger than most people's stomachs."
I laughed so loud when I read this
Omg that’s so funny!! 😐
@Stingrayy go sit down and pout in a corner, it was fucking hilarious lmfao
@AtBadWolfBay not pouting, i just don’t find making fun of a persons looks funny
@Stingrayy you think she doesn’t know she has big eyes? She’s practically rich because of her unique beauty. Being different doesn’t equate to ugly. But I get it it’s not your style and you’re boring. 😂
She gets to leave because she wasnt intended to die together in the restaurant as he only invited guests who ruined him. She was a random plus one. She was later tested to see if she was gona die as the guests or one of the chefs, but later on did this and was spared as his last reminder of his legacy.
she’s beautiful. wtf
Moral of the story:
don’t judge the picky friend for only wanting the basics at a fancy restaurant.
Exactly. If I decide I want chicken tendies and fries leave me be 😩
no... moral is not everything has to be a status just be happy
Moral: don't try to find a moral in. Story about a psycho
The fact that everyone is trying to go super in depth about an extremely straight forward and simple story, says a lot about the current society. You’re exactly the kind of people the film is mocking. Pretentious over analyzers
She was saved for being picky and not eating the food and wanting a cheeseburger cause it reminded him of his love of cooking
I love that movie and really felt that moment, I’ve had the connection with a couple supervisors in my life, surrounded by a bunch of prudes but we came from the same place and could make eye contact from across the room and understand one another
I loveeee herrr wtf
It was so satisfying that her date didn't get to die with everyone else.
Right? I think he might’ve enjoyed being made a part of the meal
😳
He let her go because she had no business being there. The looks she got when ppl realized she wasn’t his gf but some other girl he brought they were all disgusted by him and his actions😂 he was a literal kiss ass to the chef and got what he deserved
This movie was incredible. I recommend
She made him smile again while cooking, it's the best movie I've seen today. She definitely decided to live
The best movie you've seen today, what a high bar 😂
*deserved
what is the movie name
@Papiya Biswas the menu
She did not get to live somwere in the movie they say somting about the meat somting about that it is deadly after some time so it may not have been show at the end but she did normaly die
The way she looked back and the sweet old lady waved at her like it was okay
I was glad when he let her go. She brought a small amount of happiness back in his life before he murdered everyone.
I havent watched this and before I read the explanation I thought the chef had served her human flesh or smth bc bro was talking mad creepy but then the “don’t need nobody” part confused me 💀
Its just the song u over thinkin it
sameee
I thought he was a pervert 😭
Same
Samee
I loved this movie. It was amazing
I actually loved this movie. 10/10 would watch over and over again.
Chef was mad that rich people like expensive food, so he was killing everyone there. She orders a regular cheeseburger, and gets to walk away because he felt humbled by the experience
Also, in all the pictures she saw of him he was rather angry or upset, and there was one picture of him as a worker from 1987 where he was generally happy as he was making a burger
wrong
It's not rich people liking expensive food. It's rich people taking things for granted, belittling art as a means to just show off how much money they can spend instead of appreciating the effort put into masterpiece and treating people in the service industry like shit because of all the money they can flaunt
He didn't feel humbled. He felt appreciated and seen for his effort and talent and the main thing she did was enjoy his service and art. He felt his purpose being met.
@Zoe Harris Ratio
The amount of pure joy chef had in that smile, When she told him now that was a cheeseburger. Speaks volumes.
I need her luck for my entrance exams for real!
Well basically this prestigious restaurant was on a separate island and everyone dinning there were planned to be killed by the chef but this girl showed up as a date of someone unexpectedly, then she got a chance to walk away safe by challenging the chef to make a cheese burger since she was the only one who questioned his cooking and small portions !!! Everyone else were burned on that Island after she left including the restaurant/dinners and the cooks/chef themselves as well
Movie is called " the menu"
Edit : thank you for 2k likes omg
Thx for the explanation
It wasn’t fully questioning the small portions, though, like she saw his pictures in his little house when she was snooping, and she noticed the only picture where he was smiling was when he was working at the burger places she knew that was the only time he felt real joy and he doesn’t feel anymore so she ordered the cheeseburger so he would be a real joy and then he would let her go I didn’t understand the full ending like when she stopped the boat to it like did the boat run out of gas because that’s what I thought happened.
It wasn’t exactly because she questioned him, it was cuz she knew that chef was only trying to kill them because he was depressed and exhausted from trying to live to all these expectations of food, which takes away the enjoyment of cooking and eating. The people he planned to kill were some people who in different ways took joy out of food. The girl wasn’t one of those people and didn’t belong there, she was poor but still knew that the price or look of food doesn’t matter, but it’s the warm feeling you get from food. She found out that the one thing that made him happy before all this was just working in a small diner cooking burgers. So, she asked him for one and said his food wasn’t made with love, but with obsession. So while making the burger you could see how happy he was because he got to actually enjoy the warm feeling of cooking that he hadn’t felt for years. That’s why he let her go. He knew that she was one of the people that knew the true meaning of enjoying food and gave him some of that happiness back, which is why he let her escape.
Why wouldn’t he just go back to cooking burgers
Rest in pewce so sidru
Ralph is incredíble! 🙌❣️
His love for cooking transpires on her.
I love how she just ate her burger on the boat and watched the place burn down tho lol
@Dont_click_this_profileNo one cares
This movie was amazing!!!
I'm obsessed with this film probably my favorite film of the year
Spoiler alert:
That moment when she knew she saved herself and then looks back at the rest of the people behind, knowing she can't do anything for them, and them knowing that their fate is sealed and nudging her to leave, that's the only moment I've felt sympathy for those people.
Do you think she died during the boat journey? The music was kinda eerie and she seemed dizzy? Maybe the burger was poisoned?
@my_mundane_life No, not at all. The chef actually didn't wanna kill her, but as you could imagine, there was no getting out of the restaurant alive. Her ordering that burger was a smart move, plus she gave him one last moment of happiness by actually being a chef and doing what he loves, cooking.
@my_mundane_life nah. She was never supposed to be there in the first place anyway.
@my_mundane_life she was probably just dizzy because of everything that was going on
I loved this movie sm
He was broken... A simple yet broken soul just wanted the rich to pay for sucking the very joy he had for cooking. He realized that he made that burger because it was his love for his burgers that she was able to leave. Fast food restaurants or even any restaurant gives to go meals to their patrons so he allowed her to go because she was like a simple everyday person. The rich deserve worse fate than hell for the chaos created by us poor people... We simply forgot what love is and became what we are today. Can't we find something we all find in common and build a planet where our kids can live freely on without fear of our kids taking up our poor attitudes? 😢
@Dont_click_this_profile ok I wont😊
The pure happiness in his eyes is such incredible acting.
Here’s a slightly detailed explanation! SPOILER ALERT
She went with a guy (forgot the name) to an island so he could “review” the restaurant. We learn later in the movie that he was obsessed with the chef, and he later offed himself because the chef insulted him. Back to the beginning now. When they arrive on the island with only rich people who could afford to go, it is revealed some other lady was going to go with him to the restaurant, but they had a fall out, so he brought the lady in this edit. They go, and then find out no one is allowed to leave. Many people were t0ortered and offed, while all of the chefs and cooks acted like nothing was wrong. They then played a game where everyone had the chance to escape, spoiler alert, no one escaped. Finally, she sneaks into the chefs room, and finds out he started his cooking business by making cheeseburgers. She then uses this fact against him. He loved making cheeseburgers, and it was the only thing that made him happy. She then asks him to make a cheeseburger, and while he makes it, he is finally happy. She then asks for it in a to go box, so she can get off of the island. He lets her, and the movie ends by the restaurant going up in flames, the people still inside, and her escaping back to safety, while eating the cheeseburger.
This isn’t even close to every detail, so I suggest you watch the movie!
There is sooo much wrong with this comment. Like. You managed to get everything wrong but with a slither of the actual truth. No idea how you actually got upvotes while being so wrong on very obvious things even a child could correct you on
The main guy whom you forgot the name of, knew from the start everyone was going to die. He was just crazy obsessed with the chef and the art that he was prepared to die anyway. He knew from the start he would die. And he didn't kill himself because Chef insulted him. Chef insulted his cooking, then whispered in his ear instructions on killing himself, which he did because he was obsessed with the chef and wanted to do whatever necessary to please him.
Many people weren't tortured or "offed". The only deaths before the finale were the owner of the island, and the sous chef who did so voluntarily. The only torture that could be considered would be someone losing a finger.
There was no game where everyone had a chance to escape. The scene was called "Mans folly", and only the men had a 45 second head start to run away, while the women were sat down to eat another meal.
@Liam Walton Thanks so much for the corrections! I apologize for getting so much wrong, as I haven’t watched the movie in a while, so I’m rusty on the details. Sorry about all of the mistakes! And again, thank you for the corrections!
I ain’t readin allat
Idk if people really understand the depth of this movie but I feel no matter what hobby or career (even relationships) the need for perfection and social validation will destroy the true spark and desire of it
True, plus when hobby turns into your main job: you will defining lose passion because you are constantly stressed about earning money money money money money
i loved this movie so much it was so genius
I felt so sorry for him in this scene. You can see a glimpse of his humanity before the darkness took over.
They were all so talented
That’s THE film for me, I watched it like 20 times and I still love ir😍❤️
Margot is a literal mastermind 😭✨
Edit : Thx for the 1,2k
Not me reading maggot 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
@lol LMFAOOOO
what was her real name or the name she called herself? I remember her getting caught with that when I watched it
@Tlou_editsz Her real name is Erin but she renamed herself Margot
Naurrr. She ate the cheese burger that was made from poisonous meat in the end (foreshadowed in the smokehouse scene early in the film). Meaning she only managed to escape dying WITH them. She prolly died after eating that burger 🤡
This movie was lit! I think he wasn’t a bad person, he just had a bad mental state❤
The joy and pride in his eyes makes me want to cry
I love how you can see the tears in her eyes when she was allowed to leave
I love this movie! Disturbing as hell but SO artistic and meaningful ughh!!
This movie was incredible 😢
I loved the older lady waving her on when she looked back 😭
that part was so touching
This was an AMAZING movie
i loved this movie
She always slays every character she plays
I love Ralph Fiennes, he´s incredible actor.🤍
She just slayed
The fact that that is probably the first time he was paid with cash bc everyone else had expensive credit cards, makes me actually feel bad 😢
Bro u have a Talent istg.
She was so real for this I love this movie so much
Honestly I loved the actor that played the chef, phenomenal acting. You can see his whole backstory on his face in this moment, just incredible
He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named😮
The one and only❤
That's Ralph Fiennes...he's beyond phenomenal
He player Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights so this role is a piece of cake😂
Bruh. That’s Voldemort.
@cosy views ooh I loved him in that...even English Patient
I really love this movie.
She shaking to her core. So close, so close.
For anyone wandering the movie name it's called The Menu
Thank you
Thanks!
THX so much !!!!
You’re a gem. Thanks.
Loved this movie so much, highly recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers
This was a great movie and scene like… ❤
"I think my eyes were a little bit bigger than my stomach"
Now that's an understatement damn haha
What did that mean?
@hsk.18 it’s a expression used when someone wants more food that they can actually eat
Her catwalk out of the restaurant is one of my top favorite moments out of any movie I’ve ever watched.
This was such an underrated movie and deserved much better publicity!
I love how she uses the fancy menu as a napkin at the end 😂
I loved this movie
Lemme explain this movie easily:
A very exclusive and fancy restaurant trapped it’s costumers and all the workers committed suicide. They told the costumers they would all die but she outsmarted them and was the only survivor.
How did she outsmart them?
@Savannah Gieseke earlier in the movie she finds a photo of the head chef cooking a cheeseburger on a grill which appears to be his first cheffing job. The photo depicts him smiling and looking happy. She uses this against him and requests a cheeseburger in the hopes that it will revive his passion for cooking. It does, temporarily, and because of this he allows her to go free whilst himself and all the others in restaurant are killed by fire as punishment for their misdeeds.
Dude this scene was so good Anne Taylor Joy is such a great actress ❤
nah he took it to another level😭
Now there’s a theory that she either dies of hunger since the boat runs out of gas, but there’s also a scarier potential ending to it. Remember when they look into the meat locker and been stated that anyone who eats it past its due date will perish? The burger she ate came from that meat, and she will shortly die afterwards
That walk out the doors was cold as ice 🥶
That movie was a rollercoaster of emotions! Really really good. 👏🏼
One of my fav actress.. she slays every character she plays tbh..
Too damn fine
That was very intense but I'm glad she got her Cheeseburger😁
I feel more for the chef than for her. His dreams cracked and broken from societies views on food. His love of cooking undermined by the travesty of the rich. He's a true chef!
The Menu was one of the greatest and most disturbing physiological horrors I’ve seen
Loved this movie!!
THAT MOVIE WAS SO EPIC I LOVE IT SOOO MCUCH FRR
i was so confused watching this movie lol
i love your edits!! ur the best!!
Voldemort gave up chasing Harry Potter and pursued a culinary career- 💀💀😭
She was also very kind
I’m always so impressed by Anya’s acting
Watched the movie just for her, and it was worth it. The story was also kind of interesting and the movie in general was very enjoyable.
I LOVED THAT MOVIE❤
This is one of the best movies i watched i recommend y'all
Basically this guy had a restaurant that rich people went to, he killed everyone with the food and she was allowed to go because she reminded him the joy of cooking food for others and she was smart enough to say that she would take it to go just so she wouldn’t be poisoned.
She says to go so that he would let her go and she could go. Has nothing to do with him poisoning her.
“Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it." -James 4:17
Honestly pretty great movie do recommend the menu
I'm glad she was smart. But I'm super glad the chefs heart was still working to let her take it to go
His smile when she complimented the burger :)
I screen check this movie at the cinema on shift and it actually looks good!
His smile after making somethimg so simple kinda made me happy that she was able to give his tortured soul some peace
