One of the horrors of getting old is watching your parents get older. Life is hard but try and forgive them and tell them you love them, before it's too late. Peace x

If you assume everyone should love their parents, that's speaking from the privilege of having good parents. Some of us really aren't so fortunate, and are wisest to cut them out of our lives, as should be done with toxic people. It's time to destroy this thing of putting parents on a pedestal. They're just humans. Some are great, many are decent, and some are awful.
Just as a toxic co-worker or landlord needn't be forgiven, the same goes for parents, other family, really anyone...

I'll be 70 late this year. I will retire after almost 50 years in radio, television and video production. I really look forward to it. It's time to let the younger generation take over and create amazing things like you do Casey. Still, though, 70, it's surreal.

@En2:P My advice is what we used to say when I was a teen, "Do your own thing." It's almost more true today. The low cost of video equipment and the ability to do things with a laptop I could only dream of in the 1970's, means you can create, create and create. So, just do it. Put it our there and see what happens. Good luck!

Just visited my dad and my entire family in Taiwan - I hadn't seen them in 4 years. After my grandpa and my grandma passed recently, I now only realize how important it is to spend time with my parents now instead of any later. Not only did I grow to be 25 years old, my parents also aged 25 years older. Now, I'm going to prioritize flying back to Taiwan at least twice a year to spend quality time with them.

Keep an eye on your parents as they age, people. My Dad got depressed and started getting dementia and it ended my parents life tragically. Stay tuned in to their lives so you can help if needed.

    • Nebulana
      Nebulana Month ago

@Karim Osama Think about the type of egotistical being/deity you're describing. Also that "evidence" you describe is not evidence. Scientists have believed a lot of things that were wrong, too. Science changes its path/mind when that happens. Religion does not. Don't blindly follow something without good evidence. It leads to being taken advantage of in other areas of life as well, because you're basing your belief on nothing but hearsay.

    • Karim Osama
      Karim Osama Month ago

@Nebulana first: you can believe in God by seeing evidence that leads you to this fact "God's existence", just like any other fact, for example scientists didn't see the atom but they believe it exists because of the evidence, and I don't think you have ever seen a cell or an atom before but you believe in them, right?
Second: if god is the one who created you that means you have to believe in him and follow his instructions in order to be awarded by going to the heaven, but if you didn't believe and didn't follow his instructions I think it makes sense to not be awarded, am I right?

    • Nebulana
      Nebulana Month ago +1

@Karim Osama It means I don't claim to know. Which no one does, regardless of individual claims. Faith is belief in something with absence of complete evidence. I don't have faith in it. It would be really great if there's an afterlife and I see my family I've lost...but I don't know if that's going to happen etc. And Religion just guilts people into following it because "oh if you don't believe, you won't go to the afterlife and then you can't see mom and dad and your dog sparky again." It's sick how it plays on people's emotions and fears. Like...if that's how God functions if there is a God, then count me out anyhow.

    • Karim Osama
      Karim Osama Month ago

@Nebulana does that mean you don't believe in God?

Casey's dad makes an excellent point which is that our 70 isn't our dad's 70, which isn't our grandfather's 70. This is borne out not only by the actuarial tables but by the lived experience of so many men and women who look better at 70 than their parents did at 50. Casey's dad is a perfect example of this but we can see it playing out not only at younger ages (ever look at high school yearbooks for graduating seniors in the 70s?) but in younger generations as well. I was born in 1990 and I'm happy to say that people graduating from high school now look younger than we did in 2008. This trend is borne out in the actuarial tables, photographic evidence, anecdotal experience, and, god willing, will continue into the indefinite future.

Yes it's an uncomfortable truth, time passes so quick, seing your parents grow old makes you feel this.
Makes you also feel how precious the times with them are, and makes you (makes me) feel that there's always an age for something. Like 20's is the age of youth and mistakes, 30's is the age of to slow down and start maybe a family and 40's is the age where you realize what you did with your life, you have (or not) a family and you have a perspective of life and how did it went. Or you have no perspective at all but hangovers last way longer.
I'm also on my 40's and man, it all went so quick. I know I've missed some chances, I know what I know and I know how did i ended up here in every aspect of life and the upcoming is unknown, sometimes don't you feel like emptyness? Like not knowing what are you supposed to do next? Not retire in 30 years, but on the meantime. Ahhh well, sorry for this.
Happy 70th to your dada Casey! Mine is 73, mum is 83. All the best

So sweet! My folks are 92 and 88 so I get the sentiment about aging! Enjoy your time with your father and make sure your kids get to know him!

Happy Birthday. Your comment that you are going to be 70 hit me because when my Dad passed away (my Mom had already passed), I went through the 'I am next' stage in life. Live a great life everyone. As my Dad would say "Keep moving. When you don't, it's over." Cheer.

What a video to watch when I was down about turning 70 a few days ago. It’s a good thing that you had that note at the end of video telling your dad 70 isn’t that old. I think 70 is the new 60. Love your videos Casey

The ending is great too, looking back in time, putting the whole story into context. By the way, for a 70 years old guy, your dad does not look old! He looks like 55 or something. Salute to him having 4 children. Nowadays it’s so rare in Europe to have this big of a family.

This was so touching. Yes, my parents are 75. I’ll be 55 this year. My kids are just about grown up. I was recently looking at photos from the 80s when my dad was a solid 16-17 years younger than I am now, and I feel it was yesterday. It goes so fast… Happy Birthday to your pop. 🎂

I will always love how he's respecting his kids' privacy and identity until they're old enough to decide for themselves if they want to be shown. He hides their faces in a very artful and non-distracting way.

If you think 70 is old Casey, I'm going to blow your mind right now. My Mother is 78 & when my her Mother passed she was 92. I'm 57 & I just got my real 1st tattoo.
It was a saying my Grandmother always said. You get more with honey, then you do with vinegar. Words to live by IMO.
Happy birthday Barry. May God bless you with more.

I am a completely different person than you are Casey. Different style, different job, different preferences when it comes to lifestyle but I have watched and enjoyed 70-80% of your uploads for more than 10 years. I am 25 now... how time flies by... hahahaha. Anyways all I wanted to say is that I am happy to see you happy with your family. I miss your daily uploads, but weirdly I tell myself its ok since this is what makes him happy, stopping is what he needed to have more time with his family. So not nagging you in the comments for more uploads and dealing with your absence from my everyday routine is like a sacrifice that I am making for a person I don't know (but feel like I have known for more then a decade). We have one thing in common btw.. the love for our family.
