My darkhorse pick would be Japan. They've slowly and quietly built a string of world cup appearances since 1998 and have grown in talent and tactical disciplined. I can seen them shocking Spain or Germany to get out of the group.

Abramovich at one point owned, totally or partially, clubs in almost every league in Europe. Chelsea had exceeded the number of players they could sign (most of which never even set foot at Stanford Bridge), so they would just be signed by one of Mr Abramovich's other clubs. Mat was signed to Vitesse and then Nantes until he was finally let go and signed for Reading.
As good as EPL teams are, they are never going to have the climate/lifestyle of Italy, Portugal, or Spain. I remember a lot of Portuguese teams only having South Americans as their players (Uniao da Madeira went as far as marrying them to prostitutes, their president owned a lot of "nightclubs", becoming the first team in Europe, the world, to only have South Americans (almost all of them from Brasil) on the books. Well, I guess technically they were Portuguese by "marriage" LOL). Good times before the Bosman ruling.
As for Barcelona, I wonder how many players are going to regret signing for them. Can they even register the players they are "buying"? I seriously doubt it. Good on the President of the Spanish Federation, if only all leaders were as strict as him when it comes to rules and regulations.
