This could easily be disguised as a song from Stadium Arcadium. These guys age perfectly while still keeping their old essence from previous albums.

@Samuel Hoffmann I really fell in love with the chili peppers because of their punk funk stuff in the 80’s, so I agree, and yeah the most amazing thing about the chili peppers is that every album sounds different and is unique, but they never changed or lost their essence, the essential qualities of their sound. Not many bands have done that.

"Doing that solo was a mind fuck, I'll tell you that. And it was the last solo I did out of all the 48 songs we recorded. I saved it for last, because the idea of having a song about Eddie Van Halen, you're basically saying to people, "Think about Eddie Van Halen." And then when it comes to this long guitar solo at the end, you're going "Now watch this!" And I did not like that idea. I was even thinking of cutting the solo entirely, because I did not know how to go about it. I was trying for a while, and I wasn't happy with anything I was doing. I was either going too far in the Eddie Van Halen direction, to where it was too busy and there was too much two-handed tapping and it didn't sound like me, or I was just doing it and it only sounded like me... in a song about Eddie Van Halen.
I just turned off my mind and stopped thinking about it. I stopped being self-conscious about the idea that the song was about Eddie Van Halen and just did what was natural. We were recording, and I took maybe a 15-minute break. And when I came back in, I just did the whole thing in one take. Whatever Eddie Van Halen is in there, it's just there because of my love for his playing since I was eight years old."

    LYRICS:
I sail in the sunset strip
    I'm a bit of a king
    Granny would take a trip
    I've been bending the strings
Got hammers in both my hands
    Such a delicate touch
    They say I'm from Amsterdam
    Does that make me Dutch
    Please don't remember me
For what I did last night, oh
    Please don't remember me
    Lord and the children
    Please don't remember me
    It's only 1980, it's only 1983
    Smoking the reefer
    Feeling my own light
    My brother's a keeper
    I married a TV wife
    The devil's Camaro
Parked in the high school lot
    A little sombrero
'Cause teacher was way too hot
    Please don't remember me
For what I did last night, oh
    Please don't remember me
    Listen to Lord now
    Please don't remember me
    It's only 1980, it's only 1983
Tell my love but leave me never
    Can't complain about the weather
Snowing at the rainbow, have a ball
Cut my teeth down at the whiskey
    GTOs tried to kiss me
One more song, they have seen it all
    Please don't remember me
For what I did last night, oh
    Please don't remember me
    What'd I say, oh
    Please don't remember me
    It's only 1980, it's only 1983
    Please don't remember me
For what I did with David
You know I'm talkin' David Lee
    Am I ready
    Please don't remember me
For what I did last night, oh
    I guess I played a Flying V

@R.J. Frias John Frusciante must have played a role, because the lyrics reference Granny Takes a Trip, a psychedelic London clothing store during the 60’s where rock stars like Syd Barrett and Jimi Hendrix bought their clothing. Only John would know an obscure piece of trivia like that. 1983 was probably a Hendrix reference, too.

Along with echoes of Stadium - this song actually is very reminiscent of some of Frusciante's solo work, and especially his song Wayne. For me, this is their best song of the new era so far, and partlybecause it so well evokes the old era, but with some further maturation and drawing on more elements of Frusciante's solo work.

    • Karsten Puder
      Karsten Puder 2 months ago

@No Smoking that is somewhat true. The new album doesn’t sound anything too different from stadium, although there is a difference. I wasn’t expecting anything to different since it still the same John Frusciante. That’s doesn’t mean dark necessities is 10x better, although it probably is a better song. Although I do love sick love, UL as a whole is a better album than the getaway. The getaway may have specific song that are better, but as a whole, UL >.

    • No Smoking
      No Smoking 2 months ago

@Karsten Puder You didn’t get me right. To be concise, RHCP is my personally 2nd favourite band w Bon Jovi. Objectively, they’re the best band in the funk rock realm, no cap. An iconic and unique sound. What I’m trying to say is, with the comeback of Frusciante, they didn’t do anythinng new. It’s more of the same old same old. TG was fresh, new and interesting to listen to. It’s more successful than UL in sales and overall listenings. Typical comparison :
Dark Nec. 400+ million views based on YT
      Black Summer 40mil.
      10x more

    • Karsten Puder
      Karsten Puder 2 months ago

@No Smoking well u have the weirdest opinion of all time. Wdym by RHCP isn’t an iconic band??? One of the biggest bands of the 90s and still very very popular to this day. You may like the getaway more, but as a Chili Peppers album, it’s very bland. Nothing jumps out. And it didn’t produce positive energy around the fandom it wasn’t very well liked. UL went #1 in many counties including the US and will most likely win bets rock album at the Grammys. There are only a couple songs on the getaway that are enjoyable. The rest are very meh.

    • No Smoking
No Smoking 2 months ago +1

@Karsten Puder In terms of music, based by its definition, main goal is to create art - lege artis. RHCP has been mentioned in different sequences and they’re by no means an iconic band. Being overly repetitive especially in this advanced music era doesn’t sell. The Getaway was a fresh record which produced very positive energy around the fandom, my point is, giving the fandom a new feel, a new sound a different music aproach but still keepin’ the traditional RHCP chord progression and awesomeness. Every song is it’s own chapter w a lot of different energy and feel put in it. A lot of effects on the guitar added that make the sound different, altho some writing is identical (Go Robot - Dark Necessities). The bass is way more interesting and way funky than usual where it’s a lead part/ instrument in some songs. Drums had different effects and felt unique. Josh brought a lot of electronic elements into the RHCP sound. Everything is on it’s place in time and I could go deeper but I’ll end it here. Also, based on digital platforms and sales, every Getaway single is way popular and as an album, sold more than UL.
UL is basically Stadium Arcadium 2.
      mundane, cliche, depressively boring.
