The lessons about humanity, compassion, noticing the other person, what it's like to be a woman and a man and how both sexes have their own struggles and their pain deserves to be noticed and acknowledged deserve praise. The final scene where Barbie both metaphorically and literally grows up and decides to become human was tearjerking, definitely the top highlight of this movie.
But damn, if most of the good stuff just gets drowned in the approach of "Telling" instead of "showing". Ken's patriarchat rules that came from the place of wanting to be respected for who he/they are was a good story, telling every second sentence how "patriarchat is bad" was not. There are moments where this really original and refreshing movie becomes some sort of lecture which is quite possibly the most boring way to show things. Exposition by info dumps rarely end well for the consumer, it makes the whole experience really shallow.
And I get that overall this movie was partially a satire of many modern things but Christ, those Mattel executives were just... ugh. Completely unfunny and unnecessary, they brought nothing but annoyance. Even if the idea behind them was laughing at capitalism as a whole and pointing out consumptionism, I think there could've been a better way of showing that. Or definitely the more funny way.
Overall, a solid 7. First 2/3 of the movie is a real mixed bag of good and bad, the last third made up for the movie's shortcomings. Barbie's conversation with Ruth, the war/dance-off scene or just everything with those mother's presence in the Barbie World was on top.
This movie surpassed all my expectations. I literally could not stop laughing, then crying at the end. The humor, look and feel of this movie, the messages and satire, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are perfection.
And Ferrara, she also did a massive job with her brainwashing monologue, that could have ruined the feel of the movie, but she carried it wonderfully.
You get entertainment with very little let me tell you. The movie was not even funny. Let alone interesting. It was trash

The Monty Python, Matrix, Kubrick, Ugly Betty, Truman show and such referenced are beautifully used. But satire isn't for everyone. It requiers some wit....

I was skeptical of Ryan Gosling playing Ken (I'd never seen him in a comedic role before). I was pleasantly surprised. He was perfect in this!

I loved this movie. Never had Barbies, although I particularly appreciated the references to the toys. Watched it with my girlfriend and we both cried at several points. Margot Robbie was very convincing and charming. I recommend this movie to everyone.

What I didn't expect is that I would be touched deeply and cry throughout the movie. Seeing true sisterhood, seeing the struggle of men, the struggle of women and hearing the message of truth at the end .... Just wow. Absolutely wonderful in it's extreme craziness, fun and depth.

This film will go down as one of the greatest films ever made. The message is 20 feet deep. Men, women, feminine, masculine, doesn't matter, the point is to live your life and that's good enough. This film is Oscar worthy as well as being in the film registry.

I was dead set against the materialism and beauty-worshipping I expected to find in this film. Not to mention the corporate greed that would stink up every frame.

Not seen it, not interested in seeing it, but can you please explain something to me. What is it about this movie that is causing couples to break up? Apparently if boyfriends and partners don't want to see it, break-up. If they won't wear pink to go see it, break-up. If they don't extoll it as the greatest film they have ever seen, break-up. It's almost as if a lunatic gas is being pumped into the theaters causing girls and women to go completely insane... from what I am reading about the movie and it's after effects. I saw this movie today it was full with inspiration I love it
I just watched this movie and I thought it was da bomb! Margot Robbie totally seemed like a doll come to life, you could not have cast an actress who more personified Barbie, and Ryan Gosling was really, really good as Ken (although I'm biased he always plays his characters with a lot of emotion and feeling), and Kate McKinnon was honestly the surprise jewel, she was so wacky and weird and I loved her character. Margot Robbie was both clueless about the dirty nasty real world as a plastic doll living in a perfect word but then super self aware and grows so much as a person (a doll? a human?) in the movie, and her character is suprisingly complex. I thought the aesthetics were incredible, the scenes really take your breath away, with so many vibrant colors. The set design was pretty spectacular. A lot of the jokes went over the head but the really basic ones ("I'm gonna beach you off") were so wacky and good. It was funny, beautiful, and the musical and dance scenes were awesome. I only wish there were more musical numbers. It was wacky, silly, fast-paced, witty, sharp, funny, philosophical, existentialist, it really makes you question who you are and whether the world you are living in is real or not.
Ken has always been much taller than Barbie, they did so much to make this movie like Barbie but then just kinda was like ahhh that's not important

I just went to see Barbie at the movie theater and I dare to say it was the greatest movie released in 2023 alongside the Mario Bros movie. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were outstanding and I really love the message the movie tries to convey. Totally worth it!

It's getting better every time I watch it. And I still have 2 promises to fulfill, so still 2 more dates with this wonderful movie. It's def not what I expected, it's smart and hilarious and moving. To see the Kens galopping like King Arthur in Monty Python's... melted my hears. So did the other smart movie references. But a Monty Python reference in a Barbie movie? Just WOW Greta is Great!!!
This movie really hits me, maybe because i'm still at point of existential crisis finding a meaning of what my purpose is. Definitely a 10/10 recommended!💙

Love how accurately they make her seem like a Barbie doll, from her staying stiff on her toes to floating to the ground since there's probably not a single kid in the world who used the stairs.
I actually used the stairs EVERY single time.but then again i also used to say that mickey mouse was a liar and he wasnt really waiting for my answer(i used to write the correct answer on a register and hide it from the screen to show my family that mickey mouse isnt actually talking to me.) i was in kindergarten when i did this😂

The way they added Midge and weird versions like Growing Up Skipper and Sugar Daddy Ken was so funny. My favorite part is the musical part with the Kens. It was so nice to watch Ryan and Simu. And don't forget Scott Evans!
I have the feeling that this movie will have some serious "Truman Show/Black Mirror, but slap a pink filter on it" energy, and honestly, I'm *all* here for it.

I think the most Epic moment was the experience of "beeching" each other off referring to sexuality, specifically men on men. So relevant for children, whom will be learning "RADICAL gender ThEoRy". Makes sense.

The Barbie movie looks like my daughter's playroom. When she got to be the age to REALLY play with Barbie, she inherited ALL the Dreamhouses from my parent's attic. My mom's, my two, my sisters two, all the assorted vehicles and pools and stables and offices and salons and ice cream shoppe stands and restaurants, that had been carefully packed away from our childhoods. And then when my sister-in-law's mom downsized her house, we also got my sister-in-law's 2 dream houses, vet center, beach house, party bus, and RV camper. So basically, my kid didn't just get a dream house, she got a whole neighborhood! We ended up having to move all her other toys to the living room, because the playroom was entirely taken over by BarbieLand and also a legacy collection of Transformers. 🤣🤣🤣
