It sounds very good but at $1500.00 I want to have 2 channels. If I could go from the Marshall sound to the light crunch Fender sound it would be really impressive. If you were a pedal guy only using dirt pedals for your OD it could work out really well. But ... ? If a guy needed to do both then he should check out the NEW Black Star Amped 1. ___ Solid state but 100 watts. You have a very extensive choice of tube like voicings. Even the clean channel sounds impressive. It has memory too. Best of all the price of $500.00 USD is a game changer. Sweetwater sold out before the pedal even arrive.
Great tones, and I love the variability. Note to metalheads out there, this can do metal. Gains stack when next to other players. High saturation isn't necessary for epic metal tones! 🤘😎. Sorry I missed the premiere, Pete. I do enjoy the chats. Cheers!
Pete's skill delivers great feel, technique, style and taste....combined with some fabulous guitars. It's unbeatable. I'm thinking of starting a channel.....Essentially like a control experiment in science. Ya'know....to weed out the placebo effect and statistical anomalies. I feel my playing has matured to a level that can deliver just that.
Very cool concept. I started off pedal into any amp, then got into tube amps. Now I think the idea of a tube preamp into literally any amp or PA is a better concept.
If you could put together a band, where you could write and play all the awesome riffiness, who would you have in the band? I would want that album. And as always, sick song, Pete!
It's a cool idea for sure, but it defiantly needs some quality-of-life upgrades because at USD 1500 it is more expensive than any of the Victory Pedalboard amps (which come with torpedo captor tech), Quilter Superblock's (which it is 5x for expensive as) and the Milkman 'The Amp' all of which have headphone compatibility for silent practice.
I think this is the future of amps to be honest. So many coming out. Digital control will be good option though. Bluguitar amp x is out soon and I have the amp 1 iridium already and it’s amazing.
I have the Mercury and it's amazing... - for the fraction of the price... ;-) - and the new Amp1 X will be sure the next step..; Also - unfortunately not very much known is the Thermion Engineering Zero Hybrid Amp - I think Pete also did a demo on this one..
I feel like companies are missing the opportunities inherent in this concept. This thing is enormous and doesn’t have any advantages over a “normal” head. Some take the form factor of the Orange Terror Stamp, add a decent IR instead of an analog cab sim, make it an edge of breakup pedal platform, and you have a perfect competitor to the digital emulation style pedals.
So there's a lot of these hybrid tube preamp/class D amps now. They must do something special to make them sound more like an all-tube amp, which as we know, gets a lot of its sound from the power section - especially so when the master volume is cranked. I really like the versatility in the tone controls with the America/British voicing switches. It's probably more appreciated when you're actually doing tracks or trying to dial in a sound for your band than passively listening to a demo. Thanks.
> which as we know, gets a lot of its sound from the power section Gets a lot of the 'feel' from the power section. Sound, no. There are awesome tube amps from the 70s / 80s where the preamp came more and more important. It's by now a pretty old but widely known trick to use some sort of compression pedal to get a 'pure, poky reactive class D' poweramp a bit more squishy.
power section includes phase spliter tube & most of the sound comes from that tube if you want power tube saturation you should mess with a biass to make it more hot saturated. a tube boost/ eq in a loop would get there without cranking a master volume ;)
I have a design where I included a mid shift switch. Since it modifies the curve of the tone stack, it may not be as apparent at its middle value settings but when you begin to adjust the lows and mids you'll see w dramatic difference. Almost like a treble booster. This may be similar. Really digging this pedal and great demo as usual. Thanks
Enjoyed bud, thanks for your time and work. JHS vid can you hear the difference, scary scary klon v 30 $ amazon pedal. The rabbit hole just got lonely. 😂😂👍👍🥃Respect to you mate.
@mike blue I had the HD130 210 open back combo and then I ran out to a 210 ported music man cabinet... That thing was unbelievably loud on clean with no breakup but that nice tube warmth and then I would throw some petals in front of it such as the MXR overdrive rat distortion for my distortions and some modulated effects i.e. phase 90, flanger & delay and it took all the pedals absolutely beautifully. I had to sell that amp due to a messy break up with my son's mom to pay for things. I miss that amp and extension cab so bad. Right now I have a Kustom HV100 hybrid combo amp on layaway (it was used to guitar center and here in Washington state they have what's called a 30-day pawn shop hold when bringing in used gear) it will be able to get it out first week of December. The Kustom amp sounded amazing on the floor with just a quick 2 minute demonstration on the clean channel which is all I needed and I would have to say that that Kustom is probably the closest thing to the music man HD series... But lighter in weight. I'm probably going to do a video on that amp when I get it... But ultimately it's a Christmas present for my son.
with the new blackstar tranformers it wouldn't have to be huge. hhmmmmm i had an hd130 with the 2x12 ported cab. played that thing on 8-10 with the loudest country band ever. cool amp.
i wished it had a clean channel, a real high headroom clean channel, that would be my rescue, and for the price i think it should! other than that a great piece of gear, unfortunatly i woulden't buy it.
Sounded GREAT PETE, Can't believe they Scrunk all that Sounds & Tones in That Little Bitty Box 🙀🙀🙀!! It's Awesome Hope it has a Great Price?? Might make it Under The Tree 🎄?? Thanks for Bringing Out the Big Guns PETE THORN love the Bigger GUITARS + tone on the Strat was Sweet Too nneess!!
BTW, on their website they mention internally it's all point-to-point hand-wired so they're not gouging. Hand-wiring like that and not using PCB's means it's labor intensive and they're having to charge for the time it takes to make one. Really unusual to see anyone making things that way anymore. I do wonder about the 'hybrid' aspect though... as in.. how is the solid state portion built? PCB? Not that it matters.. just curious.
I don't know why they're making them powered. I think players have the idea now how easy it is to run a modeler to the board. And if they want power besides they run it to an FRFR also. The power section obviously takes more room in the unit making it bigger and heavier. Something a lot of player don't want. I know I love the idea of these kind of amps, but they just need to be a preamp. And only as big it needs to sound awesome, tubed with 2 channels with eq and gain adjustment, and switch between channels. Built in IR's are a plus but that can be done separately too.
I like the concept - but I immideately think BluGuitat Amp1 (epecially with the Amp1 X around the corner)... - and the Thermion Engineering Zero Hybrid Amp...
Are you using a noise gate of any kind? How is your setup so quiet? When I record close to my computer I get a wicked whine from my fans in the signal chain. I have to angle 90 degrees and then get back about 8 feet to eliminate it.

Great tune, Pete! And the guitars sounds damned good too!

I’d have to put some careful thought into that…
You're a song writing machine, Pete. Sounds so good. This amp sounds killer too.
