@Adamguy2003 which honestly makes him more evil than the original since he outright manipulated kids into causing themselves to be turned into donkeys even if they actually didn’t want to go to Pleasure Island whereas in the original they came of their own free will.

    • Adamguy2003
      Adamguy2003 2 months ago +2

      Yeah.
As terrifying as the Coachman was in the original, the Evans version is more charismatic. You could more easily picture this version of the Coachman being able to convince kids to come with him.

Fun fact: This is Luke Evans' second time in a Disney live-action remake, and his second time as a villian in a Disney live-action remake on top of that.
His first time was as Gaston in 2017's Beauty and the Beast.

Honestly Luke Evans as The Coachman was by far the highlight of the movie for me. Devilish, charismatic and downright creepy. The bit where he does an Indiana Jones swing over the kids and lands on top of the donkeys then just goes “what a bore!” was superb.

Coachman was my favorite in this movie. Not overly evil like in the original film and has a great song

    • Chad Peterson
      Chad Peterson Month ago

@SalohcinPancakes and the remake version is more manipulative and uses that to trick and guilt trip any of the kids who are less willing to fall for his tricks

    • Jagger O'Connor
      Jagger O'Connor Month ago

@SalohcinPancakes I mean in the original film the donkeys could at least talk while in the 2022 film they lost that ability

    • SalohcinPancakes
      SalohcinPancakes Month ago

nah i'd say the coachman in the remake is far more evil than the original, think about it,
in the original he just took only boys who skipped school to pleasure island where they could do anything they want such as smoke cigars and beer plus break the island, then they are turned into donkeys and sold to saltmines and circuses and those who could still speak/show humanity were locked away.
in the remake he took boys & girls regardless if they don't go to school or not plus just kidnapped random kids off the street to pleasure island, where it is toned down where he feeds them candy, root beer plus breaking the island and then turns them into donkeys which in other words, the coachman punishes the kids for just being kids plus none of them could speak which could mean that all the kids could have lost their humanity and turned into mindless(?) donkeys shipped of to salt mines
idk which one do you think?

    • Chad Peterson
      Chad Peterson Month ago +2

Which ironically makes him more evil since he more subtle and manipulative

    • Adamguy2003
      Adamguy2003 2 months ago +3

Plus, this version was a LOT more charismatic; Unlike the overly creepy and obviously menacing original version, this version of the Coachman you could picture being able to convince kids to come with him.

I actually think Luke Evan’s character was an evil version of Willy Wonka. Like Wonka, the Coachman was in charge of a place where the kids can have fun but the only difference is that the Coachman intended for the kids to misbehave while Wonka didn’t.
