Dan James, Neco Williams, Connor Roberts, Harry Wilson, Brennan Johnson..... serious lack of awareness if they haven't researched these speed machines. My overall opinion is that all the 32 teams go over there to show the world where they stand. I think in the USA men's team it is really up to them to show their skills. It is a young team and will go to gain some experience. The fun of the world championship is to see how everyone stacks up. It really depends all on the team itself. We will see what happens in Qatar.

This group is still very young. I could see them losing in the group stage or advancing way past that. I'm just going to enjoy it because the real pressure will be 2026. This is to see if Berhalter is the right coach and get the players experience in a world cup.

This teams #1 problem is putting the ball in the back of the net. I could easily see us getting 2 ties against Iran and Wales and losing to England and then the winner of the Iran vs Wales game gets out of the group and we go home. Also the laughed but only because they know it is true...Gareth Bale coming off the bench in a 0-0 or 1-1 game with 75 minutes gone gives me nightmares!!!

Could we do the unthinkable and have Aaronsen play a false 9 pest role?
Another outside the box idea is having Pulisic come off the bench. I’m a diehard CP and Chelsea fan, but it’s something to consider.
Conventional wisdom says Ferreira as striker.
But would be cool to see Musah, Adams, McKennie, Reyna, Aaaronsen, and Pulisic all on the pitch!

When you have the youngest team, with only 1 player, Yedlin , having played in a World Cup before, it’s easy to think that way. But use the youth and take it to the other 3 teams. Each player gives everything he can, and they will be respected.
But giving their all should earn some results too ! Just Beat Wales ! And go from there !!!!

Central defense and weakness in GK will do us in for sure. I saw Harry Kane boss Tyler Adams in Leeds @ Spurs yesterday. That is a preview of USA @ England in the coming 2022 WC group B matchday 2. Group B has 3 world class strikers in Kane, Bale and Taremi. USA has weakness at CB,weakness and turmoil at GK, poor coaching, too much youth and lack of team cohesion. USA will produce chances against any team with our front 6 and their backups but will not be able to shut down high powered attacks OR keep up in a goalfest with, say, a Brazil or France. If USA can get strong at CB, develop better GK and maintain growth in midfield and forward, it will be a contender at home in 2026. IF.

Agree with Alexi in that I expect them to make the sweet 16 and go far. Which side of the bracket they might land on is the real determiner of depth towards the cup. Ive laid a little on them to win it, because somebody's got to have the ticket.
That said the smart money is on France and Brazil to face off in the final but never know. Its a game of controlled chaos. Strange things happen and when they do we gasp. Its just a game with a round ball and two nets. Hero time is always steeping.
My hope is we can make it through the cup without any issues of safety, move passed Qatar and Blatter's effects on FIFA sooner than later. Play fair, with sportsmanship, may the best nation hoist it when everyone has given their best efforts.

The problem isn't the roster. The problem is Berhalter & because of him, it wouldn't shock me of we see another France '98. I hope I'm wrong, but Berhalter is a guy with a career winning percentage of 40% at the club level. He shouldn't sniff the national team.

@David hopefully, during half time, the players take it upon themselves to play their games regardless of Beerholders tactics and we eke out a win.

Better than Wales and Iran? On paper looking at USMNT players, maybe. When you take into account the coaching abilities, form and experience, USMNT is the 4th best team in this group.

    • Andres Cruz
Andres Cruz 4 months ago +1

@Kian Zadeh Wales is the worse team of the group but has the individual talent to make something happen.
Iran is underrated because no one knows them but they finished about South Korea in the qualifiers and are always a tough team to beat.
USA on paper looks good but kn reality are very beatable

@Johnnybgood 11 I appreciate your comment. I am an American citizen, and I would love to see Iran and the USMNT make it to the round of 16. However Berhalter isn’t the man for the job in my opinion. England is a world class team and I think most USMNT fans will be shocked to see the scoreboard after 90 minutes. I wish the federation would have sacked Berhalter after the qualifications and brought in someone with more experience and with a better system.

@Kian Zadeh Just a suggestion: Don't "punch down" to idiots in these comments sections. It's not worth it. Also, I completely agree with your original statements. Wales and Iran are both every bit as good as the USA with LOTS more WC experience. The US could find another gear and get out of the group (as an American, I certainly hope so) but based on their qualifying form and recent friendlies, I'm not holding my breath.

  • LastingChange2022
    LastingChange2022 4 months ago +2

Iranian- American here. I'm a little torn in this group as you would imagine. I see the US finishing 2 or 3 in this group. I see Iran 4th eventhough they are a very tough out. Against Iran, all you have to do is press their backline. They don't have the best quality in the back..they play well as a unit but they don't play in good leagues like their forwards do. If you press them they will force long balls down field giving up possession. They don't necessarily have the full confidence to pass their way out of presses. But if you allow their mids to initiate passing to their wings and strikers they can be very dangerous..especially Taremi who is top class.

Weakest link is the coach, Berhalter lacks a consistent idea about how these guys line up. I think they will be lucky to make it out of the first round if their ball possession isn't better than it has been leading up to the world cup.

England speed and set piece will beat the US 2-0 .. Ream didn’t play much in WCQ and Long DIDNT play a single minute in WCQ he has no experience in playing on the road like in Central America or in Mexico. Don’t under estimate Iran they beat. Remember we might have the talent but we also have Greg as the coach..

Honestly, don't care where we finish. More concerned w how we perform. If we lost all 3 games but they were close respectable games, it wouldn't be end of the world.
But if we play like we did in those last two friendlies. No goals, barely any shots, no real fight from the players. That would just be embarrassing and a setback for the growth of the sport in this country.

@Warner Day Iran finished above south Korea in the qualifiers and Argentina needed a 93rd minute wonder goal by Messi to beat them.
That arrogance can kick the US out of the world cup real quick.
Wales is the main opposition here and it is the first game. If we beat Wales then we can be more confident. If we fail to beat Wales I think we're out of the tournament

Dream scenario is quarterfinals for this squad. Good, but far from great. No star power, no true difference makers. They'll have to play perfectly as a team to keep advancing, and then count with a fair share of luck to make a deep run. This is Brazil's WC.

  • ScapularSaves

Ok you need goals to guarantee 3 points and need great defense with those goals to get to the final. So without the goal scoring prowess there is no absolute, just saying. Defending can get 1 point but that is not a guarantee to get out of the group stage. Wales has a goal scorer if he awakes to his world class he can be a dragon man.

  • Structured CM Land Clearing & Excavation Minocqua

I think they need to play Gio at the 10, the US lacks badly creativity and line breaking passing in the center midfield, leading to insanely predictable Berhalter ball style of play. Up the wings and lob crosses in to Berhalter’s 9 Ferreira, who isn’t an aerial prototypical 9. With Berhalter as manager won’t make it out of the group, despite having more than enough talent to do so.
