A year of the Ukraine-Russia war, as it happened

Share

  • Published on Feb 22, 2023 veröffentlicht
  • When Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24 2022, the world we lived in changed. Vladimir Putin's 'special military operation' was met with fierce opposition from the Ukrainian people - many of whom resent Russia for their earlier annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who stayed in the bombarded capital Kyiv to defend his nation, Ukraine has retaken cities seized by Russia in recent months as they look to end the war. This is the story, month by month, of a past year of war in Ukraine.

First time i visited Ukraine was back in 1994, many visits have followed, and i've made numerous friends there. They are all in my heart, and luckily they're still doing fine. It breaks my heart to see what is happening to Ukraine at this moment, but Ukraine will prevail! Slava Ukraini!

Of the few documentaries I saw on the past year of war in Ukraine, this is the most touching. It is so important to show the human tragedy in detail and with compassion, more so than the actual facts of war. Thank you!

CH4 coverage of the Ukraine war has had several reporters in various parts of Ukraine. They are doing their job which places them in great danger. So proud of them. CH4 continues to this day providing footage of Ukraine's war against Russian army and highlighting the Ukranian's determination to fight back and retain its country, no matter what the Russian government and its soldiers throw at it. The spirit, resilience, heroism and organisation of Ukranian people is truly amazing. President Zelenski is a very aspiring individual who working collabortively with his fellow men has brought his people together to fight to protect their land, its culture and people. War is truly frightening and has far reaching consequences present and in the future. Thank you CH4 team for keeping the world informed and educated. I hope that one day the Ukranian people will be free from the Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin, and return and start to rebuild their home. Slava Ukraine!

I really don't like how in the beginning the reporter asked the 8 months pregnant women how she felt about her baby not being able to be born at home in Ukraine knowing that she is 8 months pregnant, terrified, hormonal, and exhausted knowing that that question would make her break down. I know it's the truth but with how much tragedy this poor lady has probably went through he shouldn't have brought that up because he knew it would make her cry...

Its a shame. We have all of these multinational organizations like the U.N., ICC among others but what's the point if no one is gonna defend the little guys. It's terrible and it signals that any leader can basically commit whatever horrors he wants as long as he has nukes.

The sheer amount of approving and rejoicing comments of ordinary Russians under videos of the atrocities committed against civilians in Ukraine were no less a shock for Ukrainians than the war itself.
We have somehow got used to the war, but the realization of who we have been living next to all this time, without even knowing it, is still terrifying.
Those creatures call themselves our brothers.
Imagine what they would do to you who they call their enemies if you let them.

DW got almost everything in this report wrong. At least you had an aussie on to correct some of it.
AUKUS is a wide reaching security pact, it is NOT a sub deal. 3 subs will be purchased from yankville in 2030. But on subs the three nations are working together to research, design and build a new class of sub called AUKUS that all 3 nations will build and deploy in 2040. The UK and yankville will bring their subs to Australian ports and serve with Australians to patrol Australian waters until 2040.
But as I said AUKUS isn't just subs, it's a military pact. Australia will be sharing it's hypersonics knowledge with the UK and yankville for example so all 3 can try to catch China.
There is greater integration between all 3 militaries. There's collaboration on weapons systems, weapons platforms, aerial defences, intelligence gathering, all kinds of stuff. AUKUS is far reaching.
It's better to think of AUKUS as a strategic extention of 5 eyes. Partner nations to AUKUS are a possibility, but their full membership to the pact has already been ruled out.

If the President of Ukraine had high sensitivity, on the first day of the Russian attack would have immediately known all the consequences. All the nightmares of this one year will never happen. If the safety of his people is prioritized, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will immediately ask to meet with Vladimir Putin. But what happened was the President of Ukraine prioritized his position in Ukraine, whereas abilities were far below the President of Russia. NATO where Zelenskyy took protection. Too late. It took more than 30 years to rebuild infrastructures in Ukraine.
