Because it reverses the reverse image formed by the regular mirror and true mirror inside is also an image of a mirror which works like this.
The first virtual mirror formed inside real one is true mirror following in odd numbers count.

@Tortinwall it’s very helpful if we accept that the common terminology is referring to a mirror that is showing a reversed image. But a “true” mirror is showing you the exact reflection without reversing it.
Going even further into image reversal, think about how your eyes are taking in information upside down:
“Light from an external source enters through the pupil of the eyes and forms an upside down image on the retina and the retina detects the photons of light and respond by firing neural impulses in the optic nerve and the brain uses those electrical impulses to create a right-side up 3D image..”

It would be cool to see a rotational mirror tunnel, where each iteration rotates the image, say 120 degrees. Rather than repeating the images every other iteration with the true mirror, the rotational mirror would repeat after N iterations, depending on the rotational angle (N=3 for a 120 degree rotational mirror because 3*120 degrees = 360 degrees)

A few days ago I was trying to sleep and the 2 mirrors on my desk were in the perfect position and angle to create a true mirror. I moved my arm and I saw something move, it was really dark so I couldn't see what it was, I stood up and I saw a black figure in front of, I moved back a few steps and the figure moved too but it looked weird and like if there was a person moving in front of me. I almost shit myself so I turned the light on quickly and I found out it's a "true" mirror 💀

Well, True Mirrors actually DO flip the image. Regular Mirrors just reflect what they see. It’s because when YOU’RE looking at the Mirror, it looks flipped because your perspective is flipped, parallel to the mirror.

  • RQB
    RQB 4 months ago

Basic geometry: a mirror corresponds to a (Euclidean) reflection in the plane of the mirror and takes place in 3 dimensions. Any 2-dimensional analysis of reflections, as the one from the video, is bound to yield wrong conclusions.

  • Juan D'Marco

Technically the true mirror is the one that flips the image, right? Since a regular mirror just reflects the light in the direction it came from, doesn't it?

  • Biz Vlogs
    Biz Vlogs 4 months ago

Can you make a mirror that flips things up and down instead of left and right?

  • Jiří Štefka
    Jiří Štefka 3 months ago

Mirror technically doesn't flip the image. It's you flipping the image. Take a piece of paper and write something on it. Then just rotate it horizontally (so that the clear side is the one you see now) and then look into some light through the paper. It will be the same as if you were looking into a mirror.
The "true mirror" is the one flipping the image and you can see that because the image alternates between "flipped" and "normal" state.

Ah, but on the contrary, the true mirror flips the image as a regular mirror shows exactly what you show to the mirror, reflected back directly. It seems as we are seeing a reversed image because, get this, we're looking at the back-side of the image in the mirror. WE are flipping the image when we show the mirror.
Consider this: You have text on the outside of a window at a restaurant. Looking at the window from the outside, the text is perfectly readable for you while outside. Go inside the restaurant and look out the window. Looks like a mirror if you were showing it the same text.
Another example is: Take a piece of clear material (glass, plastic, a ziploc bag) and write a message on it. Take it, and show the mirror as if you were showing the person in the mirror the message. You'll see the text if flipped on the bag and the mirror. Now, turn it around so you can read it. The mirror is also readable.

  • Jambo
    Jambo 4 months ago +2
