Cheapslate || Hermitcraft (Mumbo and Grian) Animatic

*Grian genuinely surprised when, after he pitched the idea for Mumbo to be CEO without him knowing, Mumbo is a terrible CEO*

Mumbo: "Every time my shop is vandalized I drop the prices"
Grian: "Your first mistake was threatening me. Your second was following through."

This was all fantastic but i especially loved the hypothetical sequences where mumbo was pouring stuff on grians couch 😂 grian charging him with a sword was so good

This absolutely made my day ❤❤❤ Mumbo's hands dusty with coal soot, the red light of plotting in Grian's eyes, the much-abused couch in Grian's living room... this is a video worth watching many times over.

I miss Mumbo and Grian's shenanigans

The only thing this is missing is Grian accidentally stealing some diamonds from Mumbo while they were talking about the coal.

Holy crap a six minute animatic. This must’ve taken forever especially since it turned out amazing and also hilarious lmao.

I think this is, hands, down, the best animatic I have ever seen. The choice of clip, the body movement, facial expressions and angles all portrayed so much in a very minimalist style. I'm impressed and inspired. Well done

A non-exhaustive list of things I love about this, in no particular order:
- Mumbo talking to the camera like a reality show confessional
- Perfect marriage of artstyle and Grian's comic timing
- Mumbo winking in Grian's phone contacts
- Grian shaking his fist at Mumbo's base is just such a good shot, as is the shovel appearing in the foreground when he decides to bury everything
- Cuter style when Grian's imagining buying the goods for his own stock
- Lovely dapper Mumbo in general
- Different styles of wings/phones
- Grian's red eyes of evil plotting
- subtitles!! much appreciated, thank you
- the fantasy sofa-vandalism scenes are SO GOOD
- Grian's jazz hands and "shocked" face after he drops the lava
- Grian's "mildly impressed" face is SENDING me, I love it so much
- Mumbo pacing in little worried circles after he's been bamboozled
- Mumbo falling over from the weight of the coal
Honestly, every time I remember this video I come back to watch it several times in a row because it just makes me so happy

Grian: Repeatedly vandalizes Cheapslate to drive down the prices, then buys the entire shop
Mumbo: "Well, well, well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions."

I have never seen this full interaction before! And it was brilliantly animated! Also, I love the beginning where Grian is in pain and it smoothly transitions to Mumbo closing the curtain on him! Well done! 😆💙

The facial expressions and body language you drew make this moment so much better! Personally, I got a kick out of Grian looking angry or serious about his shenanigans. His anger/seriousness is an appropriate response for the character he is playing, which is funny in itself, but in real life he’s probably smiling, so seeing him portrayed like that is even funnier

But he got him back with the Grian-proof vault.

I absolutely love this. I really love all of the details of Grian’s couch, I love the chat system with the phones, I love the difference in elytra style for each character and I really miss Mumbo in season nine. Wonderful job!

Wow...just wow. This is incredible. Like I can’t even properly express how much I love this and how it’s one of my new favorite things. I knew I was going to enjoy it no matter what because of the incredible storytelling you put into your work, but this is a another level of incredible. AND IT’S SIX MINUTES 😆 oh, it’s so good.

So much of this deserves praise - the art style, the timing, the Grian with a sword, the perspective shots...
...but I'm honestly most impressed with the subtitles. I have no idea how you did that.

I absolutely adore this! I love the contrast in colors especially when it switches to a different day or a different POV and the background color changes!

THIS-THIS IS PERFECT! SO GOOD! I loved this moment so much and your interpretation of it is perfection! I love all the little details like the water hose, sending messages over their phones, and even the transitions between morning and evening! This is uh-mayozing!

YES! Some of the audio you miss when it's in the video, but here there's so much visually to match the audio that you don't miss the best bits. I had never noticed the lava on the sofa audio in videos until it was accompanied by this great art!

OMG THIS IS SO WELL DRAWN!! like seriously no offense to other creators but i think this is pretty much one of the best animatics I've seen so far! and its of one of my favourite moments from S8!

The "The Office" like storytelling is so cool!

This is one of the best animatics I’ve seen. I’m sure there’s ones where the drawings looked more detailed but this genuinely feels like an actual refined storyboard for a show. The characters are consistently drawn, it has a nice length to it, it’s expressive and it’s really creative! You could have just made them stand around and talk but you make them do things and you really just give them so much life! This is so well made like holy shit!
Also bonus points for the start of the animatic. I love how you connect Grian’s scream with mumbos monologue. But you really made this feel like, the start of a show? A sitcom maybe? It’s just such a good opener

the way that you have edited some of this actually makes it feel like it could be a stage production, the way one goes off-stage and the other immediately comes on; it's absolutely fascinating. anyway this is fantastic. they're fantastic. you did such a great job. I especially love some of the poses you put grian in, while he was flying or sitting on the boxes. amazing animation.
