The case that Del drags around with him represents his burden of grief, which he doesn't share with anyone. When he finally tells Neil the truth at the train station, they are next seen carrying it together.
This is a brilliant movie that should never be remade.

@Kristatos No not remade but extra footage on dvd would be awesome!

Yes but I wish there was a source for edited footage. The "director's edit" or whatever. Imagine the hilarious stuff that didn't make the final cut, must be hours worth!

I honestly believe John Candy should’ve been nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in this movie. It has so many levels and he plays it perfectly.

If not he should get a posthumous(hope that`s the correct word) award for adding his talents the film industry...

Hey guys, this is my first time here. Great reaction! Glad you enjoyed it. There are very few Thanksgiving movies out there but this one is absolutely perfect. It's wholesome, heart warming and hilarious. They couldn't have picked two better actors to work together. Another fantastic John Candy movie is Uncle Buck. It's just as good as this one. Happy Thanksgiving!!

This was by far one of the best comedy movies ever. It is heartbreaking at the end but even more so because John Candy passed away in 1994 of a heart attack while filming his last movie wagons east. Also it was just announced that this movie has been released with full deleted scenes. It includes the interaction with the pizza delivery guy who stole from them. There is an entire scene of Del explaining to Neil after his wife passed away he couldn't return home and has just been traveling the entire time. Fun fact the F word was said 19 times which is the most in a single scene ever. Great reaction you guys. Happy Thanksgiving

If you want to watch another great road trip movie then you need to check out "Rain Man" (1988), starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, winner of four Academy Awards. An amazing film! Hope you react to it someday.

When Steve Martin is sitting on the train at the end, reflecting on the travels, those were moments between takes where Martin is waiting for the next cut. Hughes kept the camera rolling, and used those moments in the film.

This Era was priceless man. 1987. What a year for iconic films.
    Original predator
    Original robocop
    Good morning Vietnam
    Lethat weapon
    Planes trains and automobiles
Just to name a fraction from that year.

If you enjoyed this movie and already seen Uncle Buck,, I'd recommend Dutch (1991), it's like a mix between Uncle buck and Plantes, train and Automobile, John Candy wasn't in this one, but it was still a pretty good John Hugues movie (written by).

The guy who robbed them was a pizza delivery driver that neil didn't tip in a deleted scene. They should have kept it in because when neil said he had over $700 in his wallet it shows how much of a dick he was for not tipping the guy.

Let me be honest. He pities him. It is not a good scene. Sure he invites him to his home to see everything he does not have. He is polite but in his heart all he knows is a man brought him to a place where he now feels more alone than ever. If you ever have a friend who is a third leg. I promise you they feel like a third leg and hate themselves more because of what those around them have. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
