All due respect to Uma Thurman for taking on Kill Bill and for committing to the role so well. Respect to the other actors, but she definitely made the movie special.

She was ruthless, wickedly, brutal, and just amazing in those movies. Aside from the fact she's incredibly sexy and flat out gorgeous! Her daughter who played on Stranger Things is just as amazing as her Mom. Stunning! 😊

    • kevin walsh
kevin walsh 5 months ago +5

I don't recall her daughter's name, but she hit the genetic gene pool lottery, total smoke show, Ethan Hawke has about 4 must see movies, I'd say Predestination is number 1, then Training Day, then the one with Mark Ruffalo about thieves, Assault on Precinct 13.

Every actor played their role brilliantly. Shin'ichi Chiba (Hanzo), Vivica A. Fox (Copperhead), Chiaki Kuriyama (Gogo), Lucy Liu (O-Ren Ishii) all did a great job. Not to mention the actors in Kill Bill 2, which is the better of the two movies.

Uma is a gem. Lots of fun watching the back and forth with Conan.
As a fan of both cinema and martial arts, the two Kill Bill films stand up as classics. Uma has to get a huge amount of the credit for how well these films work. Never seen her give less than a great performance.

Uma Thurman's performance in Kill Bill 1 and 2 are amongst the most underrated acting in the History of Film. She had to learn Mandarin, Japanese, Karate and Fencing for this role. The Oscars ignore that kind of effort.

Knew nothing about Uma then suddenly I'm stunned, in love with her blinding brilliance🌹 and instant acknowledgement of wacky, honorable and humble Conan. The two of them would be perfect in a movie about an ancient Celtic couple who wore torcs around their necks and cracked jokes as they swung their heavy swords in battle, all the formidable wives typically charging off to battle with their husbands.

  • mark b
    mark b 5 months ago +93

As great as Uma was in the Kill Bill movies, the supporting cast was stellar. Tarantino always used great character actors like Michael Madsen and resurrected careers of many actors like David Carradine, Michael Parks and Bo Svenson.

    • asiddababa
      asiddababa 5 months ago +7

100% + Travolta - it’s easy to forget that his career had been well and truly dead in the water for many years before Pulp Fiction.

      mark b 5 months ago +3

@asiddababa You're right, he was the first actor i thought of who's career was revived by Tarantino. I left him out because I figured someone would complain his career was fine before Pulp Fiction.

@markb20 reservoir dogs is great, a little unpolished compared to his later films but I think that actually helps the movie weirdly enough.
Tarantino just writes scripts that actors want to be a part of making.

    • mark b
      mark b 2 months ago +2

@Invisalats That's true about Reservoir Dogs. Some call it a masterpiece, but it's a bit too unpolished for me. It's like Tarantino was fine tuning his skills for his true masterpiece, Pulp Fiction.

Such a favorite actor. Uma gave everything for those Kill Bill movies. Uma has a good nature with great inner strength. She got injured and kept going. What do they call that? Grit. Uma's got grit. ❤ And a modesty which accompanies a real class. She was so great in those films.
Anyone else flew from table to table like in a a film from 72', would have received my critique. But Uma has special powers. Maybe she can do it. Pei Mei may have shown her s few things we don't know about. She could do that 5 point exploding hart on you apologize and help you on you way to an honorable death. Subtleties were everywhere in her work. I really likes Uma in "Jennifer 8". It was believable fiction and Uma made that whole film work.

I could see her as a famale bond. Most actresses would take the role too seriously, and it wouldn't feel natural. I think Uma has a presence that would allow her to be more authentic to that role. Obviously bond is supposed to be the role for a "Man's man" and believe me I want to see a tough guy with style and class do the role as much as anyone...but I think she could pull it off and i'd be curious what kind of movie that would be. I suppose Kill Bill is as close as it could get without the martini and suit.

This interview shows how sparkling and natural feminine beauty Uma Thurman is. She is a great woman even as a person, not just her looks, which are fantastic.

she has a charm about her that is A+ special. I can see that lots of the best moments of her characters were her being Uma, not acting. wow.

    • Wayne J
      Wayne J 5 months ago

@boddysurfer Whatever. I don't think it's that big of a deal. It's just about distinguishing the gender when using written expression. I'm confident that Uma couldn't care less. Get over it.

@boddysurfer The word 'actor' might or might not imply something, but It doesn't infer anything - it is the listener/viewer that makes inferences.

If you watch Uma in this interview and look at her eyes and her gestures you can easily tell it was before she got into the car accident in the 2nd movie where Quinton had her drive that car without a stunt double and she crashed into a tree and injured her neck. She now is in a lot of pain. She sued Quinton and apparently he took it personally and they are now on the outs

wow, I was in a student film that never got finished because the director got kicked out of film school for putting a dildo on someone's desk. Nowhere near anyone's face, no photos... just left on a desk as a prank. That was several years before Kill Bill came out. I'm surprised Tarantino didn't have sexual harassment complaints about that prank.

    • Karl with a K
      Karl with a K 5 months ago +14

Every thing she is saying are phrases she clearly prepared to cover every response and the audience can see it. It all sounds unnatural, prescribed, and static. We don't actually see the actual person and for good reason. She is quite structured and thinking in real life and that does not match the outfit so she prepared herself with these phrases to try to make everything match but it isn't working. Also, she clearly lacks the I.Q. to pull it off smoothly. On the flip side she was clearly awesome in Kill bill because of excellent direction.

@Karl with a K An ability to pass rehearsed lines as spontaneous thoughts represents high IQ?

    • Michael Cox
Michael Cox 5 months ago +9

@natka9876 Pretty sure Karl's point was she didn't pass the script off as natural or spontaneous. The fake laughs and awkward statements do not seem like the traditional Uma. Perhaps she was enjoying her high a bit too much, as she looked and sounded more like a stereotyped 70s blonde.

Well, I'll be damned. I worked as a Grip on "Django Unchained," while it was being shot here in the New Orleans area in 2011 and Quentin was still getting photos of people with the giant black dildo if they were caught sleeping on set. We also had the wall of shame with numerous photos on it too. I had no idea that it was done on other movie productions before DU.
