James harden is the one guy who reads the terms and conditions
@Soth I know right! F*#*king hilarious 😂
Lmao this needs mor likes
Lmao this needs more likes.
Lmao this needs more likes
LMFAO 🤣😂🤣👍
I used the James Harden double step back in one of my Jr. NBA games and the refs didn't call anything but all the players and parents were yelling their asses off at the refs.
@Zanzou Uy bro dont give up basketball, you can always get good its not too late. I played alone alot in the park and got better handles and shooting. Now i play against random kids in the park and win
@Zanzou Uy they werent talking to u but ok
Parents most likely don’t have a clue on how a lot of fouls are called.
all of his moves are unstoppable until the playoffs begin
@mace windont You don’t watch enough basketball, a gentleman sweep is when the other team wins one game and you win the rest, for example Nets win first game, Lakers win next 4.
@Minhajul Haque he's overrated and has always been so. Cry about it kid.
🤣🤣😂😂🤦♂️lol
@Minhajul Haque ok i agree that james harden is good and never really played with good players but harden isnt better than mj he never will be mj is the only person who is truly unguardable
@Minhajul Haque harden is objectively a choker he took like 10 shots per game this yeay in the pkayoffs cause he was scared
James harden grew up studying to be a referee but just got good at shooting
@blqest you realze most high schoolers shoot like 20% from 3
@blqest he’s literally right though
Harden still shot 36% from three on difficult and off dribble three point shots mind you 36% from three if he was a spot up he will definitely be shooting 40% from three no question
Hungti HAHAHHA amazing
Lolll why did you do that to him
Why does he look like one too
@Nicholas Saucedo terrible tired excuse ive heard since harden's days in houston. steph has more 3s than any person in the history of the nba and he's at 43% for his career. klay thompson who doesnt have harden's all around game and is almost strictly a 3pt shooter is at 41% for his career. harden is at what 36%? harden has NEVER shot above 40% from 3. even during his days coming off the bench at okc where he wasnt the focal point of the offense and the #1 option he never shot above 40% so that excuse doesnt work at all. harden just doesnt have the same work ethic as steph.
too busy with the nightlife and chasing tail. steph is a family man and is a more focused individual. better human being too. much better.
With his mastering the rules you would think he'd have Championship rings by now
Not gonna lie this has got to be one of the funniest comments I’ve seen
@Ahmed Ali “Choke Harden” 😂😂😂
“I scored 50 points”
How?
I hit 4-24 from the field
But made 40 free throws
@Rohan Mehta how's Harden doing now?? Lol
@Rohan Mehta looks like the rules were broken and been fixed up
Not any more thanks to the new rule :)
Thats only 44 points
James Harden "In my travels, I've learned you sometimes need to stepback and just carry on."
If he moves to Washington he should be nickname Wizard traveling Harden
@Neiss congrats you proved his point
@Leon Francis funny comments, I gave out some likes but, I hope you wrote them BEFORE watching the video. This man just actually made me rethink my feelings about James Harden and his game. EXCELLENT research and video illustration of the points he was trying to make. He's 💯 percent correct, Harden is SOOO clever and what he's doing is well with in the rules. Great video!
LMAO 🤣😆🤣 LMAO!
hardens the definition of “work smarter not harder”
James Smarten
Half the reason they call him Strip Club Harden. Attitudes like that never win championships. He'll always be a good player but will never be in the same conversation as Kobe, Shaq, Lebron, and Jordan.
Let's not forget his atrocious defense. Shit if he at least played semi good on defense he'd probably have a good chance at making it to the finals. 🤣🤣
He’s lazy
He works harden reading the rule book lol
I’d still say he works pretty Hard-en
This is a great breakdown as usual and I have to say that I've gained some level of respect for Harden, but I think most fans of any sport will agree that exploiting a game's rulebook does not make the game better for the spectator.
Maybe that's too general but what I mean is that I don't know how anybody can watch that arm hook move and not get pissed off. If you're strategy for offense is to try to create fouls out of thin air then the only thing that you are showing people is that there are loopholes that need to be closed. There is such a thing as the spirit of the game, after all.
Harden is like that guy in pickup games that challenges absolutely everything the other team does, because they care more about winning than actually playing the game.
Exploiting the rulebook hasn't made the game better for him either lol. No play-off success whatsoever.
hate the game not the player xd
i dont disagree. it's like the hack a shaq; what a dirty way to win a series. so maybe the arm hook needs to be looked at just like they changed the rip through for KD. but the zero/gather step rule seems legit to me
Couldn't have said it any better, brother. Foul-baitting is the most boring, eye-rolling, sleeper shit I've ever seen. Imagine paying hundreds of dollars to watch a bunch of actors shoot free throws.
It's called competitive game, as myself liking competition I hate all people who say I should just enjoy game the way it is
The guy who actually read through instructions before playing a game.
cant be me lmao
Wim Harleev uh oh looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed :c
I actually had never heard of the 0 step before this. It explains so much. I would always just shake my head and wonder how NBA refs never caught those blatant travels.
Very well researched and presented. One of the best harden videos ever. Props.
I agree. Very well presented.
So what your telling me is James Harden is the Lawyer of the NBA
Lmfao
Better Caul Harden
@josh spears no he does it 2 years before just to get extra prepared 😂
Yeah actually you got that right on the fucking money
Terry Dischinger was the dentist of the NBA that’s all I know.
Brilliant analysis Jimmy. And entertaining as well. Much respect for your work here.
Love your content, man! I don't watch basketball games or follow the sport, but people like you make such well informed content, it's hard to stop watching! You make basketball interesting to a non basketball person
Yo literally same!!! Thought I was the only one
“he makes the best defensive players in the league...”
shows wizards.
@PG14 haha yeah they sure are. Ultimate example of a poorly aging comment there, wasn't it?... But to be fair I never expected the Wiz to keep up that winning percentage throughout the entire season. I've seen too many seasons of Wizards/Bullets basketball to be that delusional lol
@SlicedBread and now they are 27-31
@SlicedBread this comment was 9 months ago fella
Are the Wizards not 11-5 sitting at 3rd place in the eastern conference?
Thank you for this I learned something I did not know now I can show my dad this to explain to him why harden gets away with what he gets away with
I've spent the last 5 hours watching your videos. They are so well researched and presented. Lots of props.
"I turned off foul in Nba 2k but James Harden still got fouled"
That was a good one
@M So….and no it won’t.
Lol 🤣🤣🤣
@M its called futbol in most countries. Calm down clown.
@R.I.P #24 also, there's only 192 countries in the world so there's the lie.
His step backs always make me laugh especially the ones where he flies backward
I personally believe that in these situations, the NBA starts to shift to far off from FIBA basketball, which simply makes it less fun to watch. Most of us out there playing basketball on amateur or semi-pro level look at the NBA to be inspired. James Harden is not inspiring to watch, we can't pull of any of his moves. NBA wants this big show, but a lot of us just wanna watch good basketball :)
@Ramūnas Stulga issue is, outside of the NBA it gets called a travel so even if you do it right, it gets called
Gonna bash someone for being too good?
😆
You can learn their footwork and ball handling?
He also has most energy on floor at all times by not playing any defense.
Great video! One thing though, your analysis was for Harden's regular step back. That step back has been used by every shot creator throughout the years. You failed to analyze his double step back, where he doesn't use gather or zero step, but zero step back (2 steps) following with step back.
Great video. I'd love if you would comment on him jumping forward after the step-back to draw the 3-point shooting foul.
Harden said he practices his moves with a referee in the gym so he knows the move is legal.
Imagine getting paid to tell The James Harden he is doing something wrong
Or Wizard traveling Harden
@Glennelle Cabatuan I just wish Harden moves to Washington so he's new nickname would be James traveling harden
@River Valley University 1
@TA HARQA Casual
10:20 Goaltending was illegal before Mikan. But they did widen the lane from the key-hole shape because of him.
The Chamberlain dunk-from-the-foul line may be a myth but, again, they widened the lane because of him. And they made a rule penalizing off-ball fouls. And a revision, or maybe an invention. of the rule against offensive goaltending. And... I think there were others.
And for Alcindor (Abdul Jabbar) the college game outlawed dunking...
Good work 👍 pro level analysis. You should do a piece on all those rule changes for each of those players.
Damn bro you have amazing content....the background music...the production quality...the information....its really something
The last comment about Harden adapting to new rules didn't age well 😂😂😂
James is like one of those times where it's okay to hate the player and not the game because he's just so damn smart
He's perfected the gather rule so well there are times he travels and they just don't call it. I think the gather rule is a load of bs, but the league wants scoring. He works tirelessly on his footwork and it shows.
@itsKarlDesigns Kobe Bean Bryant worked himself up from behind 2allstars guards in Eddie Jones and Nick VanExel, TheBlackMamba did help and led the Lakers to championships, #TheAnswer not only changed the culture of the NBA landscape, he heavily influenced the style of play and the fashion of the NBA and played wit a championship effort in heart everytime Iverson was on the floor, Harden has a lot moves in his trickbag and a very skilled offensive player who knows how to use the rules to his advantage and TheBeard has made improvements at the defensive end interms of being a solid position interior defender and giving a better effort when guarding the elbows and wing areas on the perimeter, people dont hate on Harden, folks just point out the obvious when he does the stepback travel shot attempt and the hooking and grabbing opposing players to sale a foul when he shoots, getting 30-40points in a game is not effortless, a expands a lot of energy on offense when possessing the 🏀 for 18-20seconds of the 24sec shot clock on a lot of that players teams possessions, makes the offense stagnat at times constantly isolating, thats not a recipe for championship success, but yes, Harden is a phenomenal basketball player, Rockets just need to forget and make adjustments that gm and coach analytical philosophy of attempting only 3s and layups, that defensive guru of a assistant coach they rehired back during the 2019 off-season has improved they defense and put the Rockets in position to win for the pass 3 years, the problem is those 2 goofballs, Daryl Moron and Mike Dandummy
@DIFFERENT NAME LoLF, 99percent huh, thats fantasy video game talk, Fod
@SealTeamRick He seems more of a player player commissioner then for the owners. But I don't think most of basketball elite players would want to change this.
@AB11 The next allowable steps equate to 2 steps. 2+1=3. Not "two and a half".
Does the rule literally call the gather a half step?
I fuckin hate the NBA sometimes.
@Darryl Flinch I agree completely. Or at least it was more balanced. But Adam Silver would fold like a lawn chair the second the leagues elite criticizes the changes.
8:45 This "double step back" is clearly a travel. Harden has clearly gathered the ball before his left foot first strikes the ground, so the second time it does so is step#3.
Still don't care it's mad fun to watch I love harden with all his double stepbacks and stuff
After the rule change for free throws Harden definitely struggled. There were other factors, but the lack of cheap calls that he was used to getting cut into his performance significantly.
Hey Jxmy it would be cool if you mentioned the statistical methods you implement to get those stats. Like an asterisk on the bottom of the video for examplo. It would be a nice touch for us data analysis nerds
Hopefully he can regain his form this season.
Can you please make a video on how he's doing in nets? Seems to be doing pretty well in his new role.
The arm hook is basically like grabbing someone's hand, punching yourself in the face with it and then saying they hit me.
@Austin Grayson he litterally REACHES for them to draw a foul
@L Harden still can't play defense. He literally almost sold game 7 against the thunder because he let cp walk on by, collapsing the defense and leaving shai open for a 3 which he hit to send to OT
It's the opposite of the ol "why are you hitting yourself?"
@Jayinvestments Not really. Technically the car is hitting him. It’s simple application of general relativity.
I know many people hate some of Harden's "techniques," I am not a big fan of them too but one day, I will miss them when he retired.
There won't be a second James Harden.
thank god
@Jaiz Jeeson For one this is Clip-Share not ela class and for 2 harden doesn’t stat pad watch basketball you casual and for 3 Luka is a good player but none of his moves are very unique and for 4 you will always be biased for Luka since your a mavs fan then when he leaves you will hate him . And for 5 stop talking basketball
@King Will Bruh you have so many run-on sentences, I can't understand most of what you wrote SMH. But anyway, don't try to argue against Harden stat packing, it's a well-known fact. I also mentioned a lot of skills unique to Luka so again, no he isn't ultra similar to Harden. It may seem so on paper, but watching them play is completely different. Watch some actual games and tell me they're the same.
It is true that Luka will leave if the Mavs don't do something tho...I really hope not since we really need to keep a generational talent like him!
@Jaiz Jeeson when harden was in Houston he had better numbers than Luka now on the nets his stats are reduced harden is not a stat padder if he was he wouldn’t of changed his game when he joined the nets. And Luka will leave the mavs soon if they don’t make moves to get him a championship team. I don’t hate Luka but he is doing almost all of hardens moves that’s why I nicknamed him the wanna be harden. I’m not hating on Luka but he just plays too similar to harden
There will always be people like James harden who change the game.
I could watch your videos all day. Truly excellent, true respect for your work
What a machine. Gotta watch more games again. Awesome sport
Great analysis as always man. Love the content.
Jimmy: " Isolation is the hardest play to pull off and reqires lots of talent"
Every Player on the street court:
"ISO ISO"
They iso against people who aren't professionally trained and are referred by professionals. These street players see a bunch of ball hogs
The Jokerr it honestly depends on who you play with if you play with niggas that are actually decent you get yo props if you play dogshit wannabes then yea
the statement really depends on the defender on the other side
DOLBIT NORMAL'NO What does iso mean? Isolation. Because it’s just you running the play.
But no ones as good as harden is when he isos
I like how he admits that the zero step was a new addition and most of what Harden gets away with would be a travel in any league other than the NBA but goes on to say "There is no way to hinder their greatness without compromising the game itself".... Ugh, just make it like it used to be or like any other league in the world.
I honestly like the 0 step rule it makes it easier to break down the defense and leads to higher scoring games
“Take seven steps skip and a jump”😂😂😂 that’s the best move in the nba
Can you do a comparison of Harden against legends like Kobe and MJ in terms of iso scoring? From my recollection Kobe would do iso plays a lot even taking on double and triple teams but idk if I just remember those plays because they were awesome clutch moments or cuz Kobe did them a lot like harden
Also, I forget- bc he draws fouls so much- they don’t defend him the same way. So that’s another reason he can move through
This dude could get fouled 18 times while playing on the court by himself
@M and its also 195 countries
@Mouse time yea since soccer players just move the ball around WITH LITERALLY NO SCORING 0
@Quentin Sauvageau I swear I only get excited for the world cup only to be let down the year after the world cup. I finally realised basketball was just soooo entertaining.
@M says the guy who calls it soccer while talking about "soccer" in different countries when it's football 🤣🤣🤣
@M 1 it's called football, only 2 countries in the world call it soccer. 2 nobody really cares
Oh snap....that Zero step is a game changer. For him to perfect it is insane
It's never "rule bending" if it's within the rule in the first place, this is the genius behind James Harden, he uses the rules to it's full extent, dissecting it detail by detail, just enough to squeeze in a bucket or two.
he is now in the 6ers. 3 teams in 2 years. Unbelievable
The best video on a player analysis i av ever seen. I always com back to watch this video and I av recommended it to many players and referees so as to adjust their officiating
Back to back travels at 5:26. He does it so fast its hard to see but when he has both hands on the ball he then takes 3 steps. I had to go frame by frame to see it though so I imagine refs have a hard time.
Nope I was correct, gather step lets you finish your step if you are gathering the ball, not have your foot on the ground, take an additional step, and then take 2
Nevermind I don't get the gather step rule. In my defense his right foot and ball gather occur in the exact same frame, so if he was one frame earlier it would be a travel.
Hiroshi Look at it again. He picks up the dribble. Both hands on the ball. His left foot on the ground. He then steps back, both feet leaving the ground, his left foot hits the ground briefly to accelerate, then his right foot lands. Then his left foot lands and he shoots. That's 3 steps.
If this is the case with the "0" step the league should have the announcers share this during the games so as fans we don't keep saying how is everyone getting away with travels. Announcers just ignore it.
They're also mysteriously blind to Harden's obvious flops and arm hooks, or they whitewash the moves. He almost stole game 3 vs. Thunder the other night with an arm hook on Chris Paul. Announcers talking about how crafty he is.
@Tom Cruz it's not 3 steps it's a move when u dribble and the balls already been bounced
@loslosthuy lol it's not a rule change at all, it's a clarification. The actual rules on traveling haven't changed since the NBA's inception.
They been talked about this even all the players specifically tmac explained this rule
Say “gather step” ITS A 🧳 TRAVEL
Jordan and Iverson got to the line so much in an era where basketball was a lot more physical. Both were hacked to shit. Harden creates situations in which it looks like he's the one being fouled even though he is the one looking for and initiating the contact. I don't think you can compare it to one another.
Harden secretly studied the rules more than Rodman did studying rebounding
I did the arm hook when I was I high school and always got called for an offensive foul (this was way before Hardens time)
Crazy enough...Harden literally has made more Free Throws than he has field goals....
Bro must have had the NBA rule book read to him at story time 💀💀
I know his euro step is legal, but if you’re guarding him, it’s gotta feel like one hundred steps
Alexis Ritter no
@David Eaton Harden has legit moves, often at times, the refs swallow the whistle on Harden jump back, step to the side jumpshot attempts and the initiating contact on opposing defenders and that uropean step, overall i believe Harden will be a 1st ballad hall of famer wit the stats and usage rate, Harden skill set and work ethic in nutrition and off season weight training, inspite of some playoff struggles fits the criteria of hall of fame status
Vitali Tsimoshchanka LoL 3 steps is a travel bud .
@AB11 everyone flops.
Here I am again. I love your videos so much I come back to watch the old ones. I showed my buddy your vids a while back and we both agreed, we love the graphs. We let each other know when a new vid comes out lol. Keep it up man
He is the ultimate Free Throw Hall of Famer
The reason why MJ had so many FT was because dudes was literally clotheslining him lol
Jordan would also jump to shoot, but the defense was in the way, so like 5 seconds later (before he had landed) he would bring the ball to his hip and shoot from there. It would be hard to be a defender and keep your hands off that nonsense.
@Majid Sheikh "Magic complained about it as well" - you literally just used the friendly shit talk with MJ and Bird during a photoshoot for the '92 Olympics to him legitimately complaining. Amazing the mental gymnastics people will do to try to create some kind of reality that doesn't exist.
@Majid Sheikh yeah that's why Detroit was able to beat the bulls just by foiling Jordan super hard huh
your completely wrong about that. he literally got the most favourite of any player in history a d magic complained about it as well.
I love how every time one of these videos says stuff like, "Harden makes the best defensive players look like chumps" immediately you have a clip of poor Bev getting ankle-broken.
0:24 The cut to that guy falling was absolutely hilarious 😂
I still don't know how they didn't make a rule for that arm grabbing bs. I would be pissed If I got a foul on those types of calls.
SpaceTurtle you’re acting like Harden is the inly player who does that. Not only that but the move is legal and used by many nba players. you’re exposing yourself
Vizual i thought same thing.
BOOM kick to the nuts, no..seriously like they used to FOUL him so he cant still get the shot off, wear him down...take the foul, but make it worth it.
Make him actually fight for his points, its making a mockery of the game.
@Daniel Nguyen well you can't kick the ball out of someone's hand. So you have to use your hands. People do stay in front of him but once they breath in his direction a foul is called. Or he grabs their arm even when its on their own body.
Then stop playing defense with ur hands and actually move your feet
@Jadon Wolfe I think its the rate he does it and how he actively tries to get those type of fouls is what bothers people. To a lot of people it just feels like a dishonest way of playing the game. People want to see them play as a team and work together. Not one guy fish hooking someone and then look like he's a damsel in distress the instant he touches his defender. Its exploiting a sort of loop hole in a sense and that's not gonna fly with a lot of fans.
This is an extremely well put together video, more people need a basic understanding of the game.
10:44 the perfect step back I've ever seen
Up and down he jumped
Wade is so god damn understatedly smooth. 9:42
Indeed he was. Fun to watch
He’s wise he knows the rules
@Noah MacFarlane I see what you did there ;)))))))
@ArcanoSk your supposed to say one of the smartest players in the league. Don't break the chain cmon
@Kaden Hughes I’m sorry, is that supposed to be funny? I really couldn’t tell.
One of the smartest players in the league (10)
I’d hate to break a chain but when I tried to type “one of the smartest players in the league” for james harden it wouldn’t let me and then Verizon called me and said some strange things were happening on my phone, asked if it was stolen
Do you think Harden will be 100% with 76 in 22-23 or will he guardable
A whole segment on the “Rule Changers” would be interesting
Bet
frr
Freedom of movement rule you can probably attribute to steph. He was so good off the ball defenses started grabbing and wrapping him up while he was running around.
@Deus Ex Machina that's why wilt is the goat for me
@lunatic heaven when u r so good that they nerf u by changing the rules.. gotta respect..
Thank you for making this I’m tired of defending this man alone
Lol, he holds a world record that will never be broken, king of basketball traveling.
I looked at James Harden and got ejected out of my own house.
What a great explaination. You nailed it!
1 year later….my mans struggling alittle bit 😭💀
“The NBA is back and so is James Harden”
You also forgot about yourself
Should I subscribe to you?
Yeah man!!!
The number of thumbs up is the number of people watching the nba I mean blm league game.....2.6k not so good
Harden is that kid from class that made a cheat sheet to pass his exam and now everyone wants that cheat sheet.
It’s so funny coming back to this after harden attempted 2 shots in the second half of an elimination playoff game.
its cus he got slower because of his age and not taking care of his body he cant create as much space as before its what happens with age hardens time is gone
So, im not a fan of the NBA but I enjoy so much how you narrate each player and back everything up with facts. You should work for espn or something.
Now if only he could defend as good as he scores
Great video Jimmy... I really enjoyed on how you cracked #TheBeard move
I think you missed a huge point lol yea usually they would try to change the rules like the list you shown with guys like KG, AI and Charles Barkley but for Harden they continue to make the rules more in his favor. This has never been the case for example the list you shown of players adding rule changes yet it took a while for the league to finally do something about Harden
Jxmy: James Harden is the NBA’s best bucket getter
My 2k Myplayer: Allow me to introduce myself
@thinly veiled alien XXX
did anyone else read that in jayzs voice
*frequency vibrations has entered the chat*
Dayshon Jennings superstar I just used the jump shot I use is the same I use in real life so I greened it a lot
@Untidy_Dimezyea, James Harden,TJ Warren,Michael Porter Jr. Luka Doncic have been lighting up the Orlando Bubble for there respective teams
I used to do the 0 + 2 steps when bolting through the defense for a lay up back in the mid 2000s. Everyone got mad but it wasn't travel then and it's not now.
Miss this Harden man, glad i didn’t hate on him and recognized him for the great scorer he is. Prime harden the greatest scorer of all time
I was playing in Middle School game and a kid on the other team tried this and when the ref called a travel he threw the biggest fit
Sir Charles move was so effectiv back then, he got high popularity deep down in islands where people had no tv access to witness him doing it.
Jxmy really is the best in the guy. It would be so sick to see Harden react to this video.
Avatar: fire bending, water bending, air bending, earth bending
James harden: rule bending.
James would whoop aangs and Korra's asses
more like flop bending.
And ankle bending
This made me smile
Hail fire lord harden 😂
Kinda blows my mind that I was Euro Stepping in 1999 before I even knew what a Euro step was. To me, that movement was just good basketball haha.
A legend praising a legend.
Harden gives me strong vibes of that one kid that was the best in gym class
Harden is nice str8 up. Everyone is allowed to do it but can’t. It’s not just dribbling. The man is genius. Lost in all this judgement is how hard he works at his craft. Thousands of hrs of gym time over years.
NBA’s desperate new rule: *no Harden’ing.*
Harden: **changes name**
Gokart Mozart how do you cheat? He's literally on the edge of illegal moves he's not doin anything wrong if his moves aren't illegal it's called skill and practice and If you take out fouls games would be slow low scoring boring and basically jus football players playing what fun Is that to watch? They would make no money If you don't like the art of basketball jus leave
damn i just made that joke on another video like 5 minutes ago
@TheGlideIsHere That goes Jard, not gonna lie
James Flopden
Almost everything he does is legal, as he was the first to truly crack the code of using the gather step (officially not counted as his one-two) to create additional space. BBALLBREAKDOWN's channel has informative videos with players, Coach Nick and referees that breakdown this exact matter
Great post appreciating the best scorer since Kobe
0:41 that's one strong knee, damn!
Man has the processing power of an anime protagonist
