To actually have each Chaos Emerald have their own unique ability is genius!
I love how the level design seems to be closer to modern Sonic's with the rails and even some familiar locations in there.

As a Sonic fan, I really appreciate what Sega has been doing lately, they are really trying to breathe new life into the Sonic franchise (i.e. Sonic Frontiers), while also giving us remasters/remakes of classic games (Sonic Origins/Colors Ultimate/Superstars). Hopefully, they will finally do a remake/remaster of Sonic Adventure, I think it will be a dream come true for many Sonic fans!

This looks pretty cool! Now, this is how you do a 2D sonic game! In this case it's 2.5D or both! The gameplay looks fluid, the animation looks cool and of course being able to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy is cool also! I also like how they change into those pixel square to add some more creativity to the gameplay! It's creative and looks fun! Also, those new abilities and powers are a pretty interesting addition! Just let your imagination go crazy with this game and it will turn out good! Good job Sega!
The whole game looks so cool and how it’s also a 4 player coop on the same screen, when I saw it on the eshop I preordered it instantly.

I've known of Fang a long time so seeing him here was an "OH HELL YEAH!" moment. But I'm genuinely curious how many people saw him in the end and had no clue who he was.

The music comes from Sonic Jam, but yeah it was reused for Sonic Classic Collection and Origins. The theme is starting to become synonymous with Sonic game collections.
Sonic has been on a roll these last few years. The momentum is amazing. Feels like the franchise is ready to take the spotlight again. Classic Sonic has also mastered grinding and the Shadow Clone Jutsu, just like his modern counterpart.
Yeah, I wonder when he can finally homing attack like Modern Sonic.

@FunniThere was an unlockable skill in Generations where you could do that, and 3D Blast had the Golden Shield. (And Sonic 4 kinda counts since it's 2D, but that game starred Modern Sonic, not Classic.)
And besides that, the Homing Attack was literally made for the 3D games out of NECESSITY, just like Z-targeting from Zelda (trying to jump on Badniks in 3D space back then was more difficult than in 2D).

Is it just me, or the new mario game and this sonic game have very similar vibes? Not complaining, is just is kind of cute how they both have similar art styles, and seem to be releasing in a similar time slot, is like two companies decided to go: hey lets do a duet release.

@Kyle H The thing is they haven’t exactly lived up to that frontiers in my opinion was a good game but honestly if it was given the same amount of development time that most sonic games were given it would’ve probably been the same game assuming they didn’t fuck around for half of the development I agree I don’t mind waiting a while for new games but at the rate they have been going it almost feels like an excuse to just not make stuff which now finally feels like it’s changing with this new game which looks like it’s used up its development time

Sega has been struggling with adapting Sonic to a 3D platformer for decades. I’m so glad to finally see them realize that the original 2D style was never stale or dated.

@Tj Reardon You’re right on one thing, there is a reason they’re not made anymore. The adventure games don’t continue anymore because of the reception of 06, it’s soul successor. The same reason they don’t make Riders games after the release of Free Riders, despite the success of the first two predecessors.
SEGA is like Eggman in some ways, when it makes something effective, it’ll continue that line until it makes that one model that just doesn’t meet expectations.
Edit: The problem isn’t that the concepts are bad, but that their execution fails to deliver on the last model, and that they would rather say they’ve made something that’s inherently no longer efficient than to say there was incompetence on delivery. Not unlike the same character flaw of our favorite ovoid-shaped doctor.
Of course, I do not include Sonic Team when mentioning SEGA, who to my knowledge are far more humble and are not to be held accountable for the executive decisions of their superiors, like rushing games.
This is literally everything I’ve wanted in a classic Sonic game. The art style looks incredibly satisfying!

SEGA finally seems to understand what makes a GOOD Sonic game.
For me, all is here, I just prefer the very detailed pixel art long distance landscape backgrounds in the former Sonic games, than the blurry background in this new game.
I always loved the Sonic games for (The satisfying speed gameplay ofc, but also) the ambiant, with awesome pop/jazzy musics and rich and living backgrounds.
this is exactly what we need.
