You probably figured this out, but its because any hostile mob out of a 128 block radius will immediately despawn, meaning you could have fixed it by lowering your afk platform with 2 or 3 blocks, to make the creepers stay in the 128 block radius area where they do not despawn

This group’s dynamic is hilarious. Loved the interactions on last life, now we have a whole series of it xD

Maybe build something big like a big sleeping copper dragon in the hills behind your house and have some stairs leading into the dragon's lair? You could add gold and jewels they could be resting on too with the rocks poking out like in your little town you got going.

I don't think I could ever quite convey to Joel, Grian and Scar how happy this series makes me.

Joel, you can bypass the 5 minute afk kick by standing on a piston and setting up an autoclicker activating a lever which pushes you up and down :D

Love the creeper! I'd love to see you build a giant version of yourself kind of like you did in empires but add Grian, Scar and maybe some other mobs and stage them in a crazy scene that is reminiscent of the chaos in this episode! 🤪

Someone on his last video said this is like watching three rats. One being studied on survival and two on empathy which they have none.. after watching this video I concur . Scar’s lack of survival instincts is so humorous

I love the way your area blends into the environment. Grian built into the mountain and yet in my opinion his doesn't feel like it "belongs" in the environment. Scar's is just Scar loud and extreme! Gotta love him!

Build idea for the hill: a tall tower in your building style (which i love btw) that is a sugar cane farm. Standard observer piston set up but 3 wide stacked up on all 4 sides with a hollow center for item collection.

Don't forget to keep your AFK platform in a DIFFERENT chunk than the farm itself. Due to how spawning rules work, you'll get about 4x slower rates if there's even a single block up high in the chunk with your farm.

I think a hidden grotto could work well with your current theme. It could connect to the area behind the waterfall.

You should sculpt one of the mountainsides into a cliff to emphasize the cliff part of the caves and cliffs update. If it were to be overgrown and have little waterfalls it would match the rest of your build.

You can make your creepeer farm more efficient if you change the normal campfires with soul campfires, as they do double damage so some creepeers should spawn more frequently

Could you make your AFK spot, look like a minecraft rocket? Maybe have a few "taking off" around the creeper, just to give u added safety.
Don't forget the carpet around the creeper to stop the mobs spawning

6 minutes in and we're at buying shoes and making alliances... every new episode I watch makes this series and this server feel more like some sort of cooperative 3rd life/last life. I mean this in a positive way, obviously everyone could use a dose of chaos and goofing off with extremely high stakes every now and again XD
