I understand that Anya is the boom of these years but it is sad to see that the entire publicity and interviews of the film are with her and very few (or almost nothing) with Thomasin, even she's the protagonist.
It’s nice of Anya to name and show her admiration for McKenzie.
I was sad until i realised Thomasin is a nepo baby. She'll be fine
I've seen plenty of interviews with Thomasin, including a late show.
@Aquatux Yes I agree; You just know that NZ gang is a group of close friends; I even thought that Jane probably created that little role just for Thom, just to get her in the movie; Anyhoo, with SoHo, yeah I was disapointed there were no interviews with the two of them together...but cool to talk with another Thomasin fan! 🤩
@Scotty ColoradoKid I'm sure that Jane cast her because as far as I know, she and her family are friends and just wanted to use her because they're both in the same country. Thomasin wanted to work with her because how talented she is and that's fine. Jane was probably not aware that she has been getting big at that time when they filmed the movie. I honestly don't see what Jane could do with her character in a bigger way. Leave No Trace was fantastic, I love Thomasin in the movie
@Aquatux Oh man I just was very confused as to why Jane would even cast Thom McKenzie just to be on-screen for all of 5 minutes, doing nothing; jeez what a waste of talent! As you can tell, I am just a huge fan of hers; have you seen her in Leave No Trace?
I love the fact that Anya kept switching accents when she's talking. Her voice is really smooth to hear
@Asdrubal Aníbal as an Argentinian, I just laugh at comments like this
@Itzi you don’t need any previous “certain level of English”, when you are age 3, to join any Bilingual Elementary School, even less for a Bilingual kindergarten.
That’s the point of bilingual Elementary Schools and Kindergartens: to immerse the child, in order to learn, or to not lose, a language not spoken in the country the child is living.
@Itzi she is Argentine, first raised in Argentina, who went to a Bilingual School in Argentina, which means She spoke both Spanish and English at School, while speaking Argentine Rioplatense Spanish everywhere else, including at home, with her Argentine father, her Spanish-British mother and Her Argentine siblings (four of whom are from Her father’s previous marriage), her extended family, and friends and everybody else, because that’s what you speak in Argentina.
@Bananabear20 She is Argentine. She spent the first 6 years of Her life in Argentina. Spanish is her first language and what her family speaks.
Father is Argentine (from British ancestry), Her mother is British-Spanish (Born in Zambia, Africa), so Hers is a Spanish-Speaking, fairly cosmopolitan, Argentine family.
When a family moves overseas doesn’t mean it changes the language they speak at home, among themselves, neither necessarily they lose ties with relatives, culture and language from their country of origin, and that’s how many children end being raised Multi-Cultural and more often than not Multi-Lingual.
@travis b1o0m A little bit maybe?
Matt Smith started off STRONG in the industry. He was the 11th Doctor, the youngest actor to play a regeneration of the Doctor, who managed to be the face of the 50TH ANNIVERSARY and had award winning stories, to then move to PRINCE PHILLIP in The Crown which is perfect casting since the resemblance is uncanny!!, to then join the SONY-Verse/MCU in Morbius, to then be in an Edgar Wright film!!!
Don't forget House of The Dragon
To Prince Daemon in House of the Dragon. He started off playing nice characters and now I think he found out he is amazing at playing villains
You should watch him as Daemon, he's such a force in HOTD. Powerful, sexy charisma and acting. I mean he already has it before, but his Daemon is just soooo great!
@Squicx so have you watch him as Daemon?
And Daemon Targaryen ❤ he is just perfect for the role
Matt has chemistry with everyone he works with. Amazing!
Matt Smith is the one actor that if I see he is involved, I WILL watch whatever he's in. He is one of the best actors of my generation. I also want to support him in all things he is in because his first major role is a known career killer. (Dr. Who) He is far too talented to be typecast.
Did you watch morbius?
@Jeremy Duncan not going to lie, I didn't realise how long ago you left that comment, my apologies 😅
@Baaron And I agree with you. I've changed my mind since I made this comment a year and a half ago! Thank you for defending your point of view. 😀
It absolutely isn't a career killer anymore. Every Nu Who Doctor actor has been incredibly successful since leaving the show.
Doctor Who was kinda seen as a joke back in its original run, hence why they would get typecast, nowadays quirky sci fi is massive, partially thanks to the MCU
He has Prince Philip under his belt that earned him an Emmy nomination. Now he has Daemon Targaryen. Both are nowhere the same as Doctor Who, so he's not exactly being typecasted.
Fun fact: The mirror scene at 3:14 involves Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy to mirror one another’s movements perfectly. As well as having two actors play the lobby boy and mirror each other to look as if they are the same person. If the two boys look familiar it’s because they are twins James and Oliver Phelps or Fred and George Weasley from the Harry Potter movies.
Thank you. I saw James and Oliver Phelps in the cast list after watching the film in theaters but couldn’t place them.
And the dancing scene is them switching turns.. it's on bts
Whaaaaat 😮
i thought it was the same one doing both of them and not each twin doing each take
Matt Smith is criminally underrated
@MINKIN2 I'm not saying he wasn't famous or well-known before. But he's certainly not underrated, now more than ever.
@BrandNewBlueShoes Well there was Dr Who and The Crown before that. There were literally whole Dr Who toy isles with his face slapped on everything.
After successfully acted as Daemon, not anymore.
I'd say not anymore he ain't 😂
The contrast between Matt's and Anya's very distinctive features is almost jarring. His eyes are a bit deep and narrow set, hers - wide set and larger; his eyebrows are hooded and you barely notice them whereas hers stand out; and then his jaw is quite rectangular whereas hers is almost triangular. Makes for an interesting portrait of them side by side.
@Owen he has blonde hair which is visible in different angle of lighting.
i hadn't even thought of this but you're right. they're so distinctly different looking it is almost jarring
this isnt a english class shush
@Owen they are very delicate 😂
they're very beautiful people
That dance sequence she's talking about is one of my favourite parts of the film, and it blew my mind that it was all practical and basically done in a long take. That's incredible direction, camerawork and Thomasin and Anya did a great job with the cues making it look as fluid as it is.
This movie was amazing. I absolutely loved it. The last 30 mins or so completely blew me away because not once did i think about what really happens, it never crossed my mind. Movies that pull the rug out from under you at the end are my favorite.
@Matt Soreng the best part for me was that I wasn't expecting any twist and when it did, it really blew my mind
@martin rose incredible isnt it. It was a truly shocking twist and i loved every second of it.
I just watched it yesterday, I remember thinking half way through the film that it's an amazing display of film making but Edgar really needs to stick the landing to make this work and by god did he! the 3rd act is the best part of the film.
And now he’s Daemon Targaryen. I mean Anya should be casted as a Targaryen too, her exotic features with silver blonde hair, it would be insane. Visenya suits her.
She could be Daenerys in the movie but she suits queen Rhaenys better
i agree!!! but i was thinking more along the lines of Daenys personally, i think she'd do really well at playing that role
“Treading on metaphorical eggshells” this is why I love these interviews
Saw this today at an early screening and got to hear Edgar talk about the movie in a Q&A! It was wonderful to hear about his creative process and how the film came to be
How do people get into early screenings ?
@Gina T. definitely some good scares! Not horrifying but definitely scary
Is the movie scary? It looks like nothing I’ve seen before haha
I can't wait to see Anya as Furiosa in the Mad Max prequel movie. Filling Charlize Theron's shoes for Furiosa is a tough challenge for her, I hope she can pulled it off very well as good as Charlize. Go make Charlize proud, Anya!!!
@We're All equal not really replace. the comment said it was a prequel
Ok wait you mean she 's going to replace charlize role in mad max ? Is that trueee
I think this is one of the most well-made movies, technically. This is a blockbuster in its own rights. It sure has its denouement, but every turn is a discovery. The screenplay was deliberate and consistent no pretense. Effective delivery by the actors.
I will never be able to see Anya Taylor-Joy again without thinking, "She'd be a great Doctor."
Well, she would, probably too famous now, but as part british actress she is bound to appear in Doctor Who sooner or later.
I love Ali as an interviewer, he always does a phenomenal job, asks great questions, does his homework and you see the actors respond to that. They all have genuine moments together. If I see it's an interview with him, I immediately click.
Anya Taylor Joy is a good actress, I will watch any movie or TV series that has her in it
Watch "Emma."
Matt Smith is just such a great guy
@Jasta Ykotuce I hope
Is he
It’s so good to see them acting together, I love every movie/show they were on, especially doctor who, the queen’s gambit and Emma.
Same! 💗
You are one of the best interviewers Ali. Thanks for doing this for us
I want to see this movie so baad! It looks so fun and intriguing!
@daf no, it’s not a fun movie to watch
@J D it's a fun movie definitely
it is
It is!!!
It's great!! I thoroughly enjoyed it :)
This movie was incredible. Ending was a bit weird but I had genuine reverence for all the actors throughout the viewing. Such a great story. Anya and Thomasin were so brilliant. The cabaret scene was just wild, bizarre and crazy. They get Sandie (Anya's character) to do the amazing audition that she does and then make her do back-up dancing for that silliness. Good God, talk about a waste of talent. I guess that was the point. That scene was the moment where glitz, glam and the dream-like experience get replaced with an un-ending nightmare. Fantastic movie! So fun to watch.
I want more of them together with a happy ending!
Anya seems so cultured 😍....... Even the way she laughs
I've loved Anya since 'The VVitch'. Too much talent and beauty too behold.
I am so ridiculously excited to watch this. I just know I'm going to absolutely love it
Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the most beautiful actress of Hollywood right now
@Barracuda don't worry, she will never date you anyway
The way her eyes are so far apart irritates me so much o.O
@Derek McAdam Gal Gadot has a beautiful personality? 🤣🤣🤣 She’s the most pretentious and disconnected from reality with her Imagine cringe and her supporting the war in Israel. Her entire success is also based on nepotism and zero ability.
@Derek McAdam I said one of the most. Of course Margot Robbie is the definition of flawless in everything, I don't consider Gal a flawless actress, I consider more beautiful Ana de Armas or Florence Pugh.
You must forgot Margot Robbie or Gale Gadot . I admire Anya’s beauty but if you say the most beautiful actress I think these 3 have the most beautiful face and personality so far
This movie is outstanding. Love the twist at the end!
Wasn’t it just the GREATEST?? I left feeling so satisfied.
This film gonna be a cult classic for the next 20 or 30 years from now...an amazing underrated movie
That dance scene is so good.
Matt has done soooo well u can't even 😭😭💜
He used to be “Cinderella’s boyfriend” to me, but now he is in everything, like a chameleon. I’m all for it.
God I forgot how much I love matt smith
Same here. He's adorable.
For sure that dancing sequence is quite a feat, awesome photography, great performances. Nice first try for Wright into the horror genre.
He keeps smiling every time he looks at her
*matt smith just has irresistible charm*
swoon
Loved the movie and I believe that was Diana Rigg's last movie , unfortunately. She was awesome . Love Anya's , Matt's n Thomasin's work I may see it again .
It is a great sendoff to her as an actress.
I infact , saw the movie again and it is like pasta. I liked it better the 2nd time around. Lol!
Matt's such an underrated actor
Hearing about Edgar Wright showing his film to both Jordan Peele AND Tarantino was almost too much star power for me to handle. That’s just so cool
The whole cast for this movie was great!
Quite interesting show. Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Artistic!
Very professional interview. Thanks for sharing.
Exciting project! Love the cast!
This film is amazing 🤩 loved it 😊
It is such a well put together film that gets you gripped from the very first second. It's so inderatted as I feel not enough people are talking about it.
This was a streamed film chosen following a session of family vetos blocking other options. Based on the movie description I expected it to be OK but having known nothing about it and seeing it for the first time at the end of Feb 22 I'm quite looking forward to watching it again, which I very rarely do. Despite watching it streamed to a biggish TV we have a door-shaking decent sound system turned up loud which I highly recommend in order to do a film like this justice.
What a beautiful Anya's hair, she reminds me of Khaleesi's character from GOT, i think she once said; "she wasn't enough pretty", well if i were her agent, I'd tell her "don't pay attention to what the others say, you're so talented". As far as i'm concerned, I can't wait anymore to see Last Night in Soho, and Anya never disappoints the audience who watches her movies.
Already knew him before but I really like his most recent performance as Daemon Targaryen
Anya is so funny and just such a beautiful woman. ❤❤❤
I'm so jealous of anyone who gets near Matt! Grrr!!!
Anya calling Thomasin Tommo is so cute lol.
Anya would make a great Rhaenyra Targaryen. The role is already cast and the seaseon shot but one can dream.
Anya looks amazing and I can't wait to watch this movie!
My two favourite actors. Together.
This movie is amazing!!! I'm still shaking.
Мэт Смит в этом фильме просто бомба💣💋❤. Ему очень подходят 60-е
Omg!!!! I completely relate with Edgar. I map out my films with the music first!!!!
I love this movie really represents soho really well
Can we just appreciate the technical ability to pull off that many Texas switches for that dance scene and how good was the sparks documentary
I really want to see them in another movie with happy end.
Matt is amazing !
Me encanto esa pelicula ! 🤩🤩
I liked this movie - the style, the way it was shot etc. I highly recommend
This guy is my favorite interviewer. Love em
I wanna watch this movie so badly I love Anya!
gosh i love anya so much, she's so charming!
They are both so uniquely beautiful.
Beth from The Queen's Gambit & Prince Phillip from The Crown. I'm loving this.
@GuiltySigurdsson what was her power?
@Allana-Sarah Benjamin yeah it’s not the worst film I’ve ever seen tbh.
@GuiltySigurdsson Wait. Did you see The New Mutants?
@DipGh going to be that good aye
Future Daemon Targaryen from House of the Dragons. 😌
I love the British Invasion music Infact, if I had a time machine , I would go back to England 1964 n hear all the British bands that came out at the time, besides The Beatles, Stones, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Etc.. and of course , the Searchers , and Peter n Gordon.
Great music of the Swinging 60's in England.
2 great actors
He's in GOT.. wow I am loving him.
Not GoT...prequel of that
this could be daemon and rhaenyra in another life lmaoo
She would be a perfect adult Rhaenyra!
Matt and Anya !! I love itttt
props to ATJ for doing the right thing and crediting Thomasin who plays the protagonist and plays her in bombastic style.
I really love the movie I find it quite interesting and am still not sure how Anya can keep up with all the accents
Great interview and film crew!
Matt smith straight out of morbius really enjoying his performance
I love Anya!
I love Ali. What a bloke.
esa chica tiene que estar en juegos de tronos
They're both phenomenal and so is Thomasin
loved the question about stealing set pieces.
great chuckle at the end of a wonderful review
Brilliant film guys! Thank you guys!
Nothing to be ashamed of the #1960s it was a cool cool era
Coolest two people in T.V and Film, in my personal opinion today, Matt and Anya, the next James Bond, 007 and Queen Elsa of Arendalle, as I see them both really. I love as well Anya's full name, Anya Josephine Marie Taylor-Joy, that is the most beautiful, perfect and befiiting name for her, like a name in a fairytale, appropriate to say so, because she is just like a princess in a fairytale. I have seen her dance and heard her sing and all, she's amazing as both a dancer and singer so, perhaps, Anya could play a great Disney Prncess in a live-action remake of a film of a Disney Princess, I'm thinking of one right now that we can all see and you can actually.
It's so upsetting that when a great & original film like this comes out nobody goes to see it.
Everyone must've been like "So there are literally no spider-men in this movie?! Ewww"
Anya's accent feels like a cross between English and American
The fact that RTD is taking over Doctor Who and Matt's regrowing his hair and Tom Baker's doctor saying "You'll see yourself visiting few familiar faces down the line" in the 50th anniversary -- maybe just maybe... ( I just want to watch the world burn don't mind me )
@Henry TheEgg pity about Capaldi and Eccleston, they're amazing too
Please, please, please, PLEASE!!! 🙏🙏
I think we'll get 11 and 10 in the 60th Anniversary. Possibly 13 as well. I don't think Capaldi will return unfortunately :/ and Eccleston is an absolute no. Hopefully Paul McGann though!
OH MY GOODNESS YES PLEASE. 11th Doc is my all time favourite, I think Matt Smith absolutely inhabited the role.
映画とても良かったです。惹き込まれたました。ダンスシーンとてもステキでした。60年代のオールドミュージックもとても良かったでした。
Great movie makes soho so lifelike
I need him to drop that playlist
Anya could really play Alysanne Targaryen or Daenys the dreamer imo.
Would It Be Marvelous If Anya Taylor Joy Was In An Episode Of Doctor Who?
Oh god, I'm so hyped for this movie
I feel she really tries to put a English accent. She has a very strong American accent. It’s weird she can’t break out of character
Her native language isn't English so she does not really have a natural, native accent in English. It depends on who she talks to, what role she played last and so on. She acknowledged this. Happens to me too. In school we were taught RP English while most movies (which teach you far more words) are in American English. So nothing weird here.
It's actually impressive that people mistake her for an American, that's how good her English is.
she is a perfect princess Irulan Corrino in a future Dune cast
Targeryen?
7:29 Anya looks a little shocked haha. Like Matt is speaking another language xD
Just watched this. Fantastic film
Matt did a mean "drunk giraffe" dance in Doctor Who. 🙂
After this interview, I checked the work of Krysty Wilson Cairns, which I didn't hear before. She is the writer of 1917 and the upcoming Star Wars movie. Better memorize her name.
