God bless :) Music
Hi Jordan! you should make a video of some of the cheapest music videos that still look good, and explain how they managed to achieved that with such a low budget :)
Omg agree! I’ve always wanted to see this from Jordan
@Victoria Morishita same
agreed! I think it'd be cool if he watched seventeen's adore you! it was their debut song and the editing and videography was done by the members!
I think the reason why T-Ara Cry Cry was quite expensive would be, obviously the directory and cinematography but also the fact that they had added Cha Seung Won, Ji Chang Wook and Lee Jae Yong who are famous actors and that would definitely cost them a lot back then also. Plus the video was almost 16 minutes long.
True, one of the longest mv I've seen. ❤
T-Ara - Cry Cry
TVXQ - Before You Go
BAP - Skydive
they are served us whole buffet, another level of kpop music video
Came looking in the comments for this! Not only was the video a mini movie but had big actors in it. One of my fave MVs till the day.
jordan, the infinite mv was expensive because of the plane scene but they decided to not included in the video because of the Asiana plane crash that happen in 2013* that was near to their mv release so they decided to not show it to show respect for the tragic event
I was about to comment on that, the plane shot was cut off completely and they could only use the cut from other set
2013*
@LaurenPebble thank you for that, i didn't noticed i put the wrong year
Yea
But it is still unrealistic, according to Disney, movieweb and many articles,Pirates of the Caribbean:At world's end total production cost (2007) is only $300k, and the latest 2023(Indiana Jones and the dial of Destiny)-$295k
What adds great value to your videos is that you truly like kpop. It is genuine, comes through and a pleasure to watch.
If you truly like them, you should at least deeply research about them..An MV budget is higher than Hollywood movies,.the highest sequel of pirates of the Caribbean:on strangers tide total budget/production cost ($379million)..This creator is like the creator who says that Wang Yibo 's net worth is more than $1billion .
@bella I think you should check your own research before questioning someone else. No chance it's just costed 379k.
I did quick google and wiki stated it was 379 MILLION not K.
@xtian It's million bro my bad..
the way he explains the editing is actually really useful, but the best thing is listening the edits on the beats. god its so entertaining.
Agree he’s literally the only editor I can find that actually explains the editing in music videos instead of just watching and praising the idols
Daechwita was shot at Yongin Daejanggeum Park near Seoul, which features complex permanent sets imitating buildings from the Samguk, Goryeo and Joseon periods for K-drama productions, so HYBE/Big Hit probably saved quite a bit of money on only needing props and a cast for the market scene. Lay also shot a very similar music video which was released just a week before Daechwita in China at Hengdian World Studios (largest film studio in China - second largest in the world after Ramoji Film City in India), for his music video Lit (so C-Pop?) which cost an estimated USD 1.4m - 1.5m (apparently of his own money) to produce.
JESUS CHRIST
Lit was amazing really
Did you know two years ago he(Jordan) actually reviewed Lit I didn’t until just now when I looked up the music video so that’s kinda cool
Lit is such a master work!
2nd gen K-pop was chaotic & had such great story telling in MVs. K-pop nowadays is all visuals & dance which is totally fine but I miss the cringe 😂
Wdym, if you even took the time to watch the videos of Jordan reviewing 4th gen mvs you'll see that almost every one of them has a back story. Groups like aespa, nmixx, straykids, and a whole lot more.
I get what you mean but I also understand op's comment. I think what they mean to say is the storyline was very obvious, hence the cringe at some moments. Nowadays storylines are very confusing and complicated
everytime i miss the cringe i go rewatch some orange caramel mv's. they're unbeatable😅
I wouldn't say "they're all visuals and dance", that's generalising too much
I miss AOA's nonsense mv stories 😂😂 Please!! Someone in the new generation bring it back 😭😭
I love old school kpop. Way more about talent than just looks and expensive stuff.
"2NE1 was just way freaking ahead of their time" I know, thats why I miss them so much, media and haters play unfair to them, the're not idols, they are QUEENS, hope comeback soon
T-ara and CCM/MBK entertainment in general were known for their incredibly expensive music videos back then. I know by todays standards they don‘t seem that high quality anymore (Gangkiz Honey), but at a time when mvs were usually shot in a box with a green screen, they really did change the game with long, cinematic mvs and elaborate storylines. Can recommend Day by Day, Roly Poly, Lovey Dovey!! ❤
I remember when people lost their minds when it come out that 4Minutes Volume Up cost ~$250K. Making it the most expensive Kpop MV at the time.
M/V TIMESTAMPS:
0:05 TREASURE - JIKJIN
0:58 2NE1 - COME BACK HOME
1:58 BLACKPINK - PINK VENOM
3:04 NMIXX - O.O
4:05 INFINITE - DESTINY
5:04 BTS - FAKE LOVE
6:11 AESPA - BLACK MAMBA
7:03 GANKIZ - HONEY HONEY
7:50 STRAY KIDS - GODS MENU
TOP 5 MOST EXPENSIVE
8:40 BAP - ONE SHOT
10:16 SUPERM - JOPPING
11:10 T-ARA - CRY CRY
11:50 AGUST D - 대취타 (Daechwita)
12:48 - S.E.S - LOVE
2:10 TREASURE - BOY
Thank you, good person! May you have a good day
THANK YOU
So curious BAP’s One Shot is more expensive than Skydive?
Thanks bb
Since God's Menu is on here, I wanna say I am obsessed with the transitions in Thunderous, also by Stray Kids. I know next to nothing about editing and I rarely watch MVs but that song and the MV is such a masterpiece to me, it's one of my all time favourites
I love your videos Jordan. I love watching you breakdown everything. IVE recently released a comeback called I Am and there’s a very neat transition at the first chorus and I’d love it if you reacted and explained how it worked
JISOO'S flower mv is the most expensive music video till now-stated by YG ENT. that they have put the biggest production cost ever....and we can see it too like the dresses from dior and versace and the jewellery from cartierwhich she wore worth more than around 1 million myr
What she's wearing is no different to any other MV all idols wear designer, The production "cost" didn't show in the quality at all. 99.99% of the MV has things that is commonplace with kpop idol MVS but hers still managed to be incredibly plain and looks like it was cheaply made. blinks need to watch other Kpop mvs to realise that Jisoo's mv wasn't anything special.
@Zhimin Out of country MV, so already automatically more expensive (you need to fly all the team abroad) + sets + outfits, it adds up quite a bit, they literally painted a building in universal.
Don't they just borrow the dresses and the jewellery? It's such a waste to buy all those to be worn for a few seconds in the video!
1. When they use Brand Clothing... That is BOUGHT. Because there will be alterations done to the dresses. It will be sweated, danced, and acted on.
2. BLACKPINK's Backup dancers (hitech, eoddea, crazy's) are one of the most highly paid professional dancers in korea.
3. Top tier Editing Production and Engineering is expensive and often these teams are EXCLUSIVE for YG Entertainment/ BLACKPINK's team.
4. The most Expensive Music Video in all of "Kpop" was started by Psy, then taken over by 2ne1, BigBang and right after by BLACKPINK'S MV's not using any green screens. Meaning Set Production, Camera Angles and Directing.
Imagine how many takes must one scene have. For choreo, to acting and multiple focuses.
People dont understand how expensive EXCLUSIVE TEAMS are. 💁♂️
@Abram Rex Joaquin YG always invest in their artists MVs like there is no tomorrow. Crazy considering they are the company that take the less money out of their artists.
The way Jordan just started to vibe with God's menu more than explaining the budgets in the middle of the video.... It's funny 🤣..
And also the superM one..THAT part is also my fav part
imo key's gasoline is still the best mv in kpop considering how many different looks there were and the teleportation edits along with the fire scene. it didn't probably cost as much as the ones in this video but the set and costume design went hard.
ROSÉ's On The Ground was the highest budget for a YG music video at the time, then Shut Down became the highest, and now JISOO's FLOWER is YG's most expensive music video ever.
The actual cost was never revealed tho
Pink venom, not Shut down
@Wacher yes shut down is a pretty low budget mv tbh
Flower mv was so forgettable like what did they waste so much money on that for
I wish they had made more of an effort telling a story through the mv instead of throwing in expensive clothes
No flower by jisoo is most expensive mv by yg
Flower mv is not expensive it's just include the cost of carry sets, dancer and all the unnecessary things to US. Her mv is look cheap compare to Lisa's and Rosé's mv
His Dance Therapy is everything from now on 😂. Respect
I started watching him after his DANCE bruh😭
Agree 😂😂
I did not expect to see B.A.P here to be honest, let alone One shot - it's one of their most epic MVs, which resembles a whole movie, and the song itself is epic too - vocals, transitions and all! Love it! Also 2NE1 - Come Back Home give kinda Tron or similar vibes.
Thank you, Jordan. I'm always looking forward to your reactions. This time I'll stick with the most expensive music video in the history of K-pop. I just discovered S.E.S and I can't stop listening to their song "LOVE". I see in this music video an endless source of inspiration for current K-pop
Another thing to consider into the cost is costuming/styling. I bet a lot of those expensive but don't look expensive MVs had their idols in really expensive brands.
I'm surprised that most viewed or record breaking songs aren't in the list which really shows that talent and skill matters more than budget
i've always loved short film kind of music videos. it adds so much depth to the story, like T-ara's Cry Cry, that i wondered why most kpop don't do this. now i know why 😅
Money is not always spent on special effects and scenery, sometimes places they shoot.. such an iconic and cultural places around the world and to shoot there for half or a whole day is so freakin expensive
I normally don't ask for reactions, but I was watching Lee Chaeyeon's (former Izone member) reaction to her knock knock MV, and I noted she mentioned that there seems to be quite a lot of editing and video tricks to the MV, I would love to see your input on the MV as it is really stunning and really well edited.
The thing about INFINITE'S Destiny MV being that costly is that that MV was the second version, as pointed out in the MV TITLE (ver. B), Ver. A where there are old planes were not released officially since the time it was near it's release there was a plane crash accident andnto pay respects to the victims, it was not officially released. OFFICIALLY, since i remember seeing the Ver. A before... and the fact that it's shot in the Universal studios... It's in AMERICA, the whole crew of INFINITE (members, managers, staff are from Korea travelling back and forth) and the rental of universal studio... So yep
That was my own memory of those times from their interviews and when i was not active in the Inspirit Community.. will gladly receive corrections
Jordan you MUST watch Lee Chaeyeon’s “KNOCK” comeback. The director and editor popped OFF. I must hear you break down how they did the mirror shots. Oh and the match cuts at the end will knock your socks off.
Hi Jordan! I think you'll like Chaeyeon's Knock MV :D it has satisfying camera movements to me
Queria muito que os vídeos dele tivesse legenda em português, por que com a tradução automática, em algumas partes a tradução fica sem sentido. Mas eu realmente adoro os vídeos dele
Hi Jordan! A good recommendation for an editing reaction video is LEE CHAE YEON’s Knock! The MV is absolutely crazy cool and I think you would really enjoy it :D
im surprised Lay's Lit didn't make the cut, although that is Chinese & not strictly Kpop though it does make an appearance on my playlist from time to time, but i heard that it was at like 1.6M
LAY "Lit" MV : hold my beer, you're not ready.
I'll rent an entire palace, hundreds of people (all with historical costumes), special effects like you've never seen before (the dragon OMG 😮), incredible sets, two minutes of credits at the end of the video...
(1.5 million USD $ 2 years ago)
But I guess some people might say it's C-pop. But even then EXO is korean (SM).
Soon as I read the title I was like Lit has to be here... dang it
Literally every other video he released after lit was also expensive maybe not compared to lit by the quality 🔥 especially the trailer videos of his concert r just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Here for this comment 👏 and funded out his own pocket. Maybe that's why it didn't make the list?
Lit is the true masterpiece--and better than Daechwita imo--though I wouldn't have put it on a kpop list, either.
Lol and I am the opposite~ I prefer old-Kpop to anything these days. MVs in K-pop was so fascinating to me when I first got into K-pop because they had stories that I could easily understand. Now they are just dance music videos. I was a little surprise to see SES "Love" being #1!
I don't really know where they'd rank against other budgets, but I've always been really impressed with both G-Dragon's "Coup d'etat" and XIA's "Flower."
I love how he explains everything about the editing
Regarding the point you talked about at the end: I do agree that with a simple smartphone we can together create MV and a lot more. However, due to that, a lot of people seem to disregard the "marketing" aspect that makes people famous and expect to become a celebrity in no time. I hope people will more and more intrested in this aspect of creation.
Jordan being a beatbox 😂
"everywhere i go i bring The beatbox"
@୨ৎWonychii୨ৎ lol
I loved all the mv’s in here the editing is mind blowing, but may I offer IVE’s “I AM” I would really like to see a reaction to that mv
I think that Bibi’s Vengeance should have been on this list. Have you seen that MV?!
There is nothing that expensive to be added to this list 🤔
@candy cough
LAY "Lit" MV : hold my beer, you're not ready.
(1.5 million USD $ 2 years ago)
@Videlina keep your beer .who asked abt lit ?
im kinda in the middle about that...
@Videlina that's chinese pop not korean
You need to break down Lee Chaeyeon "Knock" M/V they took transitions to a whole other level
Hi Jordan. I really enjoyed this video! thank you for doing such interesting content. Also, I would really like to see your reaction to LEE CHAE YEON (이채연) KNOCK MV. This MV blow my mind and I really want to now some insides of it's production
Hi! please do a review on the MV - Chaeyeon 'Knock'. It really blew me away with the camera pannings and transitions!!! Cant wait to see your reaction
"if you want to play a moment and play it dramatically, play it twice"
editors who work on Korean idol competition shows: "hold my beer"
YG ENT 2021: "On the ground" our most expensive MV
YG ENT 2022: "Pink Venom" is the most expensive
YG ENT 2023: No, "Flower" is the most expensive
2024: ...
spend more every year
Is flower actually more expensive than pink venom? I don't think so.
@Nourhan Aboulnasr Do you know how much it costs to rent Universal Studios? I don't know but it's very expensive
@Wacher I don't know the exact prices but I was just guessing since pink venom had a lot of sets for each member and CGI yk
Maybe Baby monster's debut MV is going to be✨ EXPENSIVE ✨
@Nourhan Aboulnasr the entire music video was shot on film (like in film strips), and it costs double compared to filming an mv with normal cameras since the rendering requires also expensive tools to convert the video from the film. Aside from that, Jisoo apparently has a driving scene in the original plan (she said this on the countdown) but the car was too old to work, and cameras for driving scenes are expensive also because she needs to drive in person not just acting as if she is driving. Shooting the mv overseas and renting the universal studios is already expensive and Jisoo also said that the MV team painted one part of the studio in yellow so it might cost a lot. Of course her outfits and accessories, no explaination needed since the outfits she wore was expensive than my whole life.
Uhmm for B.A.P. I don't know if travel costs are added, but aside from the props on the set, the mv was shot in the Philippines (the first part) and the rest in South Korea.
And if you could, please watch other B.A.P's music videos too. Packed with great story telling, edits, top tier sets and music that I know you will love too. ^^
skydive
Yesss, they are so good
Although I respect all the k-pop artists represented, One Shot and Jopping are forever in my heart:)
The transition from Daewchita to "Love" 🤣 I'm still laughing
I know this really isn’t related to the video but Marks rap in jopping was ELITE!!!!! ❤
B.A.P's one shot would forever be one of my fav MV's ever, also the plot twist 🤌🏼
The amount of times I’ve watched BAP’s One Shot was insane. It’s a masterpiece. Anybody who hasn’t checked out their music has to! They were my ult group before BTS and SKZ made their debut (who I stan). So if you like their music I highly recommend BAP 🥹
Hi Jordan! Love all your vids, can't wait for you to break down Agust D's new MV for Haegeum which came out today 🎉 it's the follow up to Daechwita and was shot in Thailand - there's also a peasant AgustD & king AgustD stand off like in Daechwita 👀 I think you'll love it !
2NE1 AHEAD OF THEIR TIME, IN 2014 THEY WERE IN 2024. miss my queens
Big Bang too~
You definitley make me look at all Kpop videos in a different way! :)
There should be way more YG videos, considering them not using CGI and generally always putting a lot of money into their MVs. It´s also known throughout the entertainment business.
I understand that YG herself said that the most expensive video she has produced so far has been 2NE1's because of the visual effects, I don't know if that also includes props and wardrobe, because they always had absurdly expensive clothes for the time because of their concept as a group.
Love SUPERM Jopping (cost for going to Dubai and sets and hotels -- WOW) -- I always thought SM did this to reward them for their hard work too. When I watch Superhuman by NCT 127, I thought this must have cost some big bucks. Thanks for the video Jordan, I feel enlightened and it was fun.
O.O is also made more expensive by the fact they filmed it overseas! I’m not sure exactly where but it was within the US or Canada
(idk if anyone else has more info on where it was all I know is I recognize my dad’s garbage cans and they don’t service outside of North America)
BAP IS ALWAYS CRAZY.... EVEN THO THEY NOT THAT ACTIVE,THEY STILL SLAYING...
I just went to Bang Yongguk's concert in America. He's still on fire!
If you want a scene to be dramatic, play it twice. Mnet really took that to heart
Jordan : the pre course is so emotional 😩
Also Jordan: and this is what happens after that
Full hardcore music *
just saying, old kpops are amazing if you pick the right ones 😉 (ps I subscribed)
My mom was classmates with Sandara Park from 2NE1, but they weren't friends since she was from the other class, also my mom said they were both losers since her and Sandara Park got bullied, I wasn't expecting it when my mom told me. I always knew Philippines was a place where you meet the most unexpected people.
Loved this video! Jordan, I'm curious as to what your opinion is on the recent Jimin music videos? I know they don't have major editing or crazy backdrops. But I'm curious of what you think about for example, the simplicity of 'Set Me Free Pt.2' in terms of having one set and focusing on the choreo? Or the use of colour and lighting in 'Like Crazy'?
Jordan podrias reaccionar al mv de Chaeyeon "knock" me gustaria saber tu opinion del manejo de camaras!✨
hey, jordan! i'm not sure if you mind getting recommendations in the comments, but i'd love to see you check out chaeyeon's knock, it just came out and the camera work and some of the editing is amazing so i'd be super cool to see you talk about it!!
Wow. A video that I knew clearly had a high budget (AleXa's debut, "Bomb") didn't even make the minimum cut! According to an article on Koreaboo (another fine, trusted source of information), ZB's CEO said the total production cost for "Bomb" was around $300K (and that's with inherent cost savings of being able to do some work all in-house)
Such an awesome bottom line to this video. Cuddos to you Jordan. And no sponsor too.
Lay‘s Lit is one of the most expensive, too, but it is technically Cpop. He payed that himself
(Btw, Oneshot is really a masterpiece! I hope you watched really till the end xD)
Hey Jordannn. I was surprised to hear that you don't like old Kpop. Mostly because you alway shighlight how important 'story-telling' is in editing. And old kpop is all about story-telling. But I guess the editing back then was lacking a lot compared to nowadays... You would know better since you're the expert.
One Shot of B.A.P was a masterpiece at his time. It was like seeming a movie in a whole different level. It’s a shame the company was sh*t. They were ready to be the biggest in the industry.
AHHHHHH seeing the bap love makes me SO HAPPY. i miss them so much they were THE GROUP for me when they were active. cheering at my screen fr when you said you liked one shot
JORDAN YOU SHOULD REACT TO KNOCK KNOCK FROM LEE CHAEYEON !THE MUSIC, THE EDITING SKILL , THE DANCE AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS SO SOPHISTICATED!
How is XG shooting star or left right not on this list. The set, video editing everything was so fire
Jordan says “that’s Jin and Jungkook” like it’s normal 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
In Fake Love that sculpture in the back is actually a very well done projection, you can see it in the behind the scenes
I hope he reacts to knock by chae cause the transitions are actual fire
I remember when Deachwita come out there were rumors it was almost 2 mil. I remember this bc it was like big number and there were rumors that Suga himself paid for part of it bc it was such a big number but it has to be like this bc he envisioned it like that, that is also why people were saying that he had only one MV for D-2 and usually they have 2 video's to promote....
Hmm like I said rumors going around, but it isn't unbeliveble... Like I can see him giving money, i can see this costing a lot bc all was practical, plus this village plus a lot of people. Hmm
I’m happy that you included DAECHWITA by Agust D, the king himself on this video. I couldn’t be more proud as a SUGA biased. That’s my most favorite BTS’ member solo music video to date. 💜💜💜
Blackpink headlined Coachella 2013. Final performance of the night was really epic by blackpink! They made history the 2 nd time but this time the first kpop group to headline the festival
Jordan I'm begging you to react and break down IVE's I Am.😭 The transitions are fire and the the song is on point.👌
I honestly thought that LAY's Lit mv was gonna be the top. That thing is absolute insanity 😫😫😫
8:35 THIS PART IS LOWKEY FIRE.
Please do a reaction video to KNOCK by Lee Chaeyon! I think you'd really love all the super cool editing tricks in it!
Lisa's - expensive? Yes. Good? No. I appreciate homage to her country and very much respect her as a dancer/rapper, polyglot and a good human being. That solo release was absolute crap and really took advantage of hungry fans with its overpriced packaging and content.
YG announced in a press release that Jisoo's "Flower" is their most expensive MV to date.
very sweet message at the end, lovely, thank you
Man, earlier gen kpop mvs were so brown in their color tone. Sepia filters to the max. I am glad that trend died out, lol. The bright saturated color of gen 3 was what got me into kpop. Super interesting video!
Please do Lee Chaeyeon's KNOCK next I'm telling you it's goooood🙏🏾
I hope you would react to those "old" videos and be able to compare them with the video editing using latest technologies ❤😂🎉😅
KINGDOM also filmed at the same site that the BTS member filmed at for "Ascension". Did Stray Kids film there too for "Thunderous"? I LOVE historical concepts, but of course, KINGDOM does it best because they're not being overly modern for a reason. They're actually representing kings in history, so their music video for "Ascension" that showcases the historical Korean palace and village alleyway is depicting the life of a Korean king with a fictionalized twist. I am still convinced that they are showing the story of King Danjong of Joseon, also known as The Exiled King, though I think the KINGDOM member Dann will say that it's someone else entirely. The music video shows soldiers surrounding the emperor with their spears (inspired by the beginning of Lay's music video for "Lit"), and Dann will say that they are enemy soldiers and he is defending his kingdom, but I still think that it represents his 'character' being opposed by his very own subjects who take command from his uncle following the coup d'etat, which is a true historical event. In history, King Danjong was dethroned, exiled, and murdered at a young age, but I always see "Ascension" as the fictionalized version where King Danjong returns from exile with enough support to overthrow his uncle and take back the throne. It adds more to the idea of "Ascension" than a king merely defending his kingdom from invaders.
I like to believe that How You Like That is more expensive than Pink Venom cause there are a bit more sets going on.
And Flower by Jisoo has to be the most expensive one ofc because of the rent cost for that Hollywood set in LA alone has to be over a million dollars.
Me:- who came just by looking at lalisa thumbnail thinking that he will react to one😂😂
I always love watching your reaction to different MVs! Love your vids! There are some really cool editing tricks in “knock” by Chaeyeon and I think you’d really enjoy it, just a recommendation. 🫶💖💞
Jisoo's flower is most expensive as per yg. Probably because they have to fly dancers to the states
jin's face made that mv expensive😂
Hi Jordan! You should make a video about the new's chaeyeon MV titled Knock, it's one of the best Mv's that I have seen in my life (from my point of view) You should watch it, it's amazing!
I know this is SUPER unrelated, but I was just rewatching Glenns death in the walking dead and i was balling my eyes out, but your videos literally made me happy again thank you Jordan 🥹
I see Lisa I click 😍
dude I’m so with you on old kpop, the oldest songs I have on my playlist are shinee songs and I will not go any further back than that XD
Hi Jordan!! I love your videos ♡
I know it's not really k-pop but i would also consider Lit by Lay 🙂
