On today's episode of Car Trek, AutoTempest challenged the guys to find out how broken their cars actually are, but there's a twist this time. Ed's Maserati, named "Mona," stole his heart but may still have eyes for his bank account. Tyler's Audi S8 has the Quattro pedigree, but it's far from a track-prepped race car. Freddy's Rolls-Royce is as solid as a tank but leaks like a submarine with a screen door. This is going to get a little sketchy.

Dunno im liking Ed's analogies a bit more. With some practice and experience I think he can start to get close to Jeremy Clarksons level. I will give Hoovie the "Angry Dorito" regarding the RX7 in another episode. That made me laugh.

Are you sure the odometer discrepancy on the Maserati wasn’t just the scan tool showing the mileage in km? The wizard knows his stuff for sure but when I use ISTA on my M5 it shows mileage in km. And 122514 km translates to 76127 miles

    • Patrick martin
      Patrick martin 3 months ago

It could be, but those numbers are still 300 miles apart, which means there’s still some form of odometer discrepancy, albeit with it displaying more miles than it should

    • Dusty the Fuzzy Dragon
Dusty the Fuzzy Dragon 4 months ago

@Austin Hise No requirement for the odometer to be accurate in the law, could just be that the number is multiplied with a conversion factor with fewer decimals.

    • Sugurain
      Sugurain 9 months ago

@SoulFly I have a Fiat from 2001, it has an ECU and registers mileage in it, but it also had a analog odometer, the whole instrument cluster is analog.
With 136.000Km showing on the odometer, the ECU showed 121.000Km or so when scanned via OBD2.
And I know it wasn't altered, because this car has been in the family since new.

    • Sugurain
      Sugurain 9 months ago

@Austin Hise Perhaps they reset the odometer mileage in the factory after all engine/brakes/suspension testing, but forgot/couldn't to reset the ECU mileage.
Granted, 300 miles is a lot for test drives, but it doesn't sound impossible to me.

    • SoulFly
      SoulFly 2 years ago +1

@Austin Hise well considering that wouldnt be an issue on a precomputer car. and also that this car is NoT anywhere near new. im gonna say you dont make any sense.
literally if you drove with a spare to long it could mess up your odemeter. many many things can mess it. ESPeCIALLY in a car like this where all electronics are connected. and if one goes down the whole thing goes down. they literally could have blown a fuse and it would have not worked for that many miles.

As long as they keep the informative aspects about the cars etc I will love it for ever. Cheers to Auto Tempest, Tavarash, Freddie and Tyler Hooptie for entertaining and informing. Maybe an off road version next? Or minivans? Or mini cars? There are many possibilities as long as it doesn't get 'The Grand Tour' ridiculous no longer containing useful car information and content.

    Enjoyed the series, so far, but two things really came to mind this time;
    1) The fact that turning back the odometer gets called to attention due to being a crime (sure no problem), but a linked brake/suspension issue is shushed, wouldn;t that become a crime too when he'd actually end up with no brakes and possibly a crash as a result?
    2) Noticed Ed was actually sitting with his head/helmet IN the recess of the roof window, wondering what would happen if he'd suddenly stop, only to see at the end of the video he goes and does exactly that.

There's a movie I can't get out of my mind after watching this video that had a whole bunch of well-to-do's driving Jaguars, Rolls Royces, some BMW's,a Porsche and a couple of other modern day exotics in a little friendly competition where they were jumping and crashing them for fun, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the movie!!!!《☆HELP☆》 but this whole video makes me reminisce of the scenes of the first 15 minutes of this movie from the 80's( I think?)🥴

Ed made the episode with the time honored classic “Anything you can do I can do better” moment.

@Spy ThorRobert was indeed included using his full name but his channel wasn't mentioned (at least I didn't see it). I'm sure it's some sort of a contractual thing...

In case anyone is wondering, the Reliant Robin and the shop in the episode are owned by Robert from the Aging Wheels Clip-Share channel. I'm not sure why there was no mention of his channel in the episode or at least in the description

Lol, a plastic pig! Haven't seen one of those death traps in ages. They were fairly common in the UK about 20+ years ago, but I'm pretty sure they made well more than 900 of them, 600 left sounds about right though. Clarkson used to own one you know!

Love that they put head restraints on the 3 wheeler that just about reach your shoulder blades 🤣

"They're gonna try to flip it over and it's not even they're car."
Did anyone else see the look on the Wizard's face when he said that. I'm a mechanic and I definitely caught that. 😂

If I've learned one thing from this episode, it's that you never buy a fixer-upper luxury car - but if I've learned two things, it's also that you never touch The Wizard.

I think Ed sticking his arm out and hanging helped balance that 3 wheels car out and preventing it from rolling over 😂

Do an episode where you have to test which reliable car is the most reliable. Grandma's Camry vs. highschooler's golf vs. cop crown vic. First rally them, jump them fast and furious style over a rail road with a train, then drift, then see how much damage was done by the wizard. Add all points at the end see which car still costs the most at the end.
