  • Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow struck a deal with neighbouring Belarus to station tactical nuclear weapons on its territory.
Putin’s announcement on Saturday comes as tensions grow with the West over the Ukraine war and as some Russian commentators speculate about possible nuclear strikes.

Belarus got out of that treaty after Ukraine got invaded and Russia upholding the treaty is laughable at this point.
It does make Belarus risky to invade and that's probably a signal that Belarus will get into Ukraine later.

In a future escalation it's entirely possible for Belarus to get involved somehow in the war. Without nuclear deterrence NATO nations may get tempted to attack it if that happens.
Conversely, by supplying nuclear deterrence to Belarus, it's more likely for Belarus to join the war.

Russia should also consider placing nuclear weapons in Venezuela and Cuba. Just as the US has placed its nuclear weapons in Germany and Turkey. It seems that Russia likes being disadvantaged by the US. It is time for gloves to be off. China should consider similar move since the US has also placed nukes in Japan and South Korea. It is time to treat the US to its music.

You know, whether they are in Cuba or still in Russia, USA still cannot prevent a huge nuclear strike from hitting its territory, so let them put it anywhere they want. The real defense against nuclear strikes has always been the threat of mutually assured destruction anyways. Especially now that Russia has hypersonic missiles and that nuclear torpedo that causes radioactive Tsunamis. What difference does it make where Russia has these deployed? If they use them, that’ll mean the end of Russia as well.

WSJ of all places is describing Zelenskyy mobilization in this way (you can imagine real situation): "Mr. Zelensky in January introduced even harsher punishment for desertion and disobedience . A disabled person was drafted in western Ukraine and pronounced fit for service despite having no hands. Another died on the front lines within a month of mobilization after 10 days of training, according to his relatives." Zelenskyy strategy is reduced to rounding up civilians often at gunpoint and throwing them into a meat grinder. It reminds a strategy of one Austrian artist in 1945. Biden administration is getting quite desperate. The only option left for Biden administration is to throw Polish army into a meat grinder. I just hope that Polish government isn't that crazy.

"All nuclear powers must not deploy nuclear weapons outside their national territories," Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping signed this joint statement in Moscow. The document was supposed to confirm the comprehensive partnership of the two anti-Western states.
However, just four days after, it became clear that the agreement with Putin was worthless. Contrary to the deal with Beijing, Russia will deploy its nuclear weapons on the territory of the neighbouring state, Belarus.

Why put nuclear weapons in Belarus after all these years? Why didn't he do this early last year ,when he was making all these announcements about the new-fangled hypersonic missiles that Russia had in its armory? It's a strange time to ship nukes into Belarus, as no-one is threatening to invade that country; if anything, people are trying to leave there.

NATO seems to believe Russia’s nukes are functional and capable even as we’ve seen since 24 February 2022 that Russia couldn’t even maintain its conventional equipment! It didn’t build enough T80, T90 or Armata tanks to arm a brigade, much less a division! It couldn’t successfully provide logistical support to invade 200 miles into a neighboring country 1/10 its size! I’m no longer in mortal fear of Russia nuking any country other than itself while trying to launch its nukes. I’ve a much lower opinion of Russia than NATO has ever had!

@Dean Poole Oh, I worry a bit about nuclear war but don’t obsess over it. I’m living within 100miles of Houston, TX with all of its refineries, chemical plants and ports but there’s so many other things that are more likely to kill us, nukes aren’t worth much worrying. I’m building a concrete and earthen shelter that’ll be good protection for nukes, hurricanes and tornados but I’m 57. I’ve taken daily good care of myself but know death ☠️ is certainly lurking out there. Within thirty years it’s likely to get me. I’m gonna try to live well and help others until then. Is the best thing I know to do.

As a person from India, I remember that time in October 2022 when the US Navy deliberately revealed the location of a submarine after bypassing all of the nearby military assets. Pentagon's message was clear and direct. Coincidentally, Russia stopped saber-rattling. I find it funny because I have worked with inspectors in Russia and know for a fact that a large number of their nukes are inoperable. Their nuclear tipped rockets and supporting bases are in serious disrepair. The money meant for upkeep went into enriching the lives of a few.

How's Russia losing when Zelensky is crying for ammo? We all understand Zelensky is losing more men than Russia daily in Bakhmut and "Adveka" permit my spelling daily. I agree with you that it may be political but strategically insignificant, new capabilities would have been from South America and not Belarus which is a neighbor.
