I just tried this flap opening on my 7 Ultimate and i'm amazed I hadn't seen the option to open it without the cooler attached before!
For those wanting to try it -
Obviously be careful but in the Aeroactive Cooler settings in the armoury crate, go to the aeroactive portal, and press the 3 dots at the top. Then go to cleaning and maintenance. Did not know it could do that!

    • Fahim Alam

    • Felix333
      Felix333 4 months ago +11

@Fahim Alam i mean if that did destroy it, then why can the normal version of the phone work without that? also it literally tells you to use that in that maintenance menu to open it with that menu to clean it using air since the cooler isn't really dust proof.

Heck, even reading all the gaming features alone makes me confused.
I can't imagine how much effort it must have taken to research, develop, engineer, test and implement such a complex set of systems that work so seamlessly with each other to produce this masterpiece ❤

Would be very interested to see what regular person load you can push into a normal smartphone and see what Temps you can get.
Playing music and pokemon go in full sunlight during the summer? Maybe run that off a wifi Hotspot or even better be a wifi Hotspot to push the phone hard and use wifi, Bluetooth, 4g screen at full brightness and speakers at full volume. Sure call of duty would be a better test but pokemon go is so badly optimized it will put more load on the system.

Phone manufacturer always put main processor behind the display, this made usb cooling fan less effective but I think the way ROG did is better because the copper fin will transfer heat directly from the CPU

    • SilvaDreams
      SilvaDreams 4 months ago +1

Heat also transfers faster through glass than through a plastic or metal case.... And they know most people will put a protective case which would further insulate the back.

Let's be honest, people can build much better and simpler DIY gaming phones with way better cameras than these with modern flagships, for cheaper. It was at this point I died on the inside...
    07:46
Don't exaggerate.. there's no way you could stick it back together & it still work at this point? I mean it'd sure surprised the heck out of me if you could.. ?
    08:54
It may not be unique, but I'm honestly impressed by the engineering...
This all being said... what I think would be awesome, is if a phone like this, used less glue, & more like frames.. or some sort of backbone support?
So basically all the parts basically just slot into place, but it could be disassembled to fix it?
I still own a Samsung Note 9 phone. I like it. BUT eventually something will go wrong, it'd be nice to have the option to fix it w/o too much of a headache, or being in danger of cracking the screen...
I'd like to just be able to slide the phone apart in pieces, & put it back together as easily. I bought it on sale for like 800 bucks.
If I bought a 1500 usd phone, I'D DEFINITELY want to have the option of repairing it easily.. or at least being able to get to components & replace them easily.
Anyways.. cool vid. Thanks for doing.

imagine having a "complicated" cooling system on the phone ruined by not extending the "riser" on the copper plate which should be in tight contact with the chip as much as possible to achieve ideal heat transfer behaviour. Thermal compound with such a thick layer acts more as an isolant at this point.

  • Joseph So
    Joseph So 4 months ago

It's a cool phone...except it isn't when it comes to repairability. Man that thing is complicated to disassemble! And the way they designed everything is kind of annoying of you ever end up deciding this device needs an open. The cooling fins are a pretty good concept though. But we've seen a similar approach from Nubia's Red Magic series for a while now.

Rather than a sticky-outy heatsink and tiny fast fan, I wonder how well these kinds of gaming phones would fare with those new airjet coolers

You mean the "innovative" tech that is little more than just a flat speaker?

  • Øystein

The balls are still just for dampening resonances in the speaker box. The speaker would sound slightly bigger without them but sound much worse.

can you make a comparison with those foam ball filled speaker before and after you remove them :)

The Rog phones are these kinds of products that I'd never buy but I still really want to have one because overkill is funny

What if jerry uses the camera from the teardown of his phones, as camera for his electric hummer and make it autonomous 👀

I own the 6D Ultimate. It has a nicer design but has a bit less power for it. I'm talking about about 1% here. It doesn't realy matter. But it is cool to see the inside of the phone. I mean mine does look similar. But why would a person like want's to buy this phone? I mean gaming yes but the main reason is the high amount of computing power for simulation programms for computers. If you think about this is a Computer for your pocket. It's fun to play around but there aren't enough games or grafic settings to suite this phones abilities. Perhaps this will change sometime.

I've ALWAYS wanted an ROG phone since the first one... But until they get great level cameras... I'm not buying one.

@JerryRigEverything - Scary to think microminiaturisation (embedded tech) is the next evolutionary step in consumer communications. They won't be so easy to tear into. 🤣

I wanted to see you put that thing together... It would have been great if you didn't break anything else other than the back glass during the teardown.

On the site the shipping costs are not indicated before the purchase. How much does shipping cost to Europe?

I use to repair those ROG phone but i think we are gonna pass on this one, too much time consuming also the cost of the screen assembly + time would cost a fortune to the customer.

Scratches at level 10 and slightly deeper scratch at level 12.
Some theoretical materials may score way above diamond on the mohls scale.

The thermal paste amount seems so lazy to me. If I could replace it with thermal grizzly, if that'll even help it work better... And even then, I hope I wouldn't literally need to place the same amount they did.

Waiting for the time cooling paste are directly integrated into the phone's chip. Forming a gooey lil' brain-like structure
