Race to remember!
Good
Nice
Best reca
Super bro
Good
imagine being that guy calling to your insurance company and saying that a firestone tire off of kyle kirkwood’s car flew and hit your car…
THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS HIT!
A: thank god nobody was hurt or killed
B: well we know what Farmers Insurance is gonna do next 😂🤣
Literally flew right over my son and I and I’ve never been more scared in my life
I was at the race today. It was wild!!!!
@Ryan Millsaps 😳
Thank you NBC Sports for giving us the fantastic highlights! What a race this was. Crazy.
🔥🔥🔥
@James Wormsley Lanzhu Zhong and Mia Taylor both gave this race a 100/100.
Love live 500??
ok
ok
I will never regret spending 11 days at Indy once in my lifetime. It truly is an event to behold...
Biggest party in the world.
our family's friend went to 52 consecutive Indy 500's under his belt before he passed. Just imagine all those great drivers he got to see. The race of all races.
@BP's the last lap of Indy 500 is like 2005 Japanese GP.
@Quantvm Inquizitor biggest party ever perhaps.
Worst Indy 500 ever
What an intense race. I couldn’t tell who was going to win. The Indy 500 really delivered this year with lots of action
Not to mention, the coverage complemented the action. Something a certain network on the NASCAR schedule fails to provide... And just presents cringe programming when rain delays that race. Can't wait for NBC to take over
@S.KullRandom Thats mostly because nascar and indy car style racing doesnt offer enough reason to have the money invested in it
@Bevan McNicholl The ISMA Supermodifieds are more exciting to watch than NASCAR and INDY combined......The cars look better as well.....And they each look different, no cookie cutters here, and no big corporations either.........The ISMA supers are the most exciting and different oval track cars hands down.
@steve harrigan I mean for oval racing yes I agree sprint cars will always in any country and any cars be better than them
@Bevan McNicholl Sprint cars and supermodifieds are not even remotely related....Supers run on asphalt ONLY, and they run a completely different chassis design......
The commentators on this broadcast did as much for this race as the drivers did. Great race, great broadcast!
They are awesome
this broadcast was awesome
13:27 You know this race was tense when the commentators are arguing 😂
To be fair, Townsend just loves Santino (which is already really suspicious and annoying considering the Ferrucis are terrible people) and he was being an idiot. The tire was clearly over the line, he just refused to see it because he wanted to see Ferruci win. Which is gross.
Too bad Paul Tracy wasn't in the booth, wouldn't have been an argument, would have been a fight! 😂
@Robert Sanders it wasnt an argument theres a line and the tires over it.
What a race! What a last lap! And he went to the fans! 🎉
Yep. I also sense RAI vs ALO 2005 Suzuka flashback.
That shows how much love he has for them 😂
ok
it was the same as every other lap
@soccerguy2433 It's the same that's why you're spending your time watching and reading the comments.
What a legendary race. This will be in the indy500 history books…
"what don't you know? theres a line and the tires over it" had me DYING live 13:27
Hilarious. And they gave Foyt a monetary fine vs a penalty bc they didn’t want to ruin Ferucci race
ok
*What do you know?
@Isaiah Rosner thanks for the notification
what a race!! some of the best 4 hrs of racing I've seen. Good job Josef, thoroughly deserved after all these years, just happy my man Ilott got a chance out front for a few laps, I was going crazyyyyyy!!
The day that NBC surpassed Fox in racing coverage... THIS is what racing on TV should be. Fox is just cringe at this point, can't even go 2 SECONDS without going to some weird gimmick or untasteful skit
@S.KullRandomthe announcers were good yes… but my god did they ever run 10 laps without a commercial break? I thought that aspect was a complete joke
@Aaron b it’s wild. I love Indy but commercials were insane, they gotta find a full time lone sponsor. Someone pay up call it the Indy 500 presented by Coca Cola or something. It was irritating. Ending made up for it though lol
@S.KullRandom yes I'm so tired of watching those Bush comercials
ilott needs few more years and he will fighting in the front
“What don’t you know? There’s a line and a tire over it!” 😂
Yeah that was some knuckle head commentating there lol
i was crackin tf up
That was funny. Nascar listens to the broadcast. One guy trying to save a penalty while the other is trying to enforce it
i was chuckling at that
Indycar is the only sport that commentators are allowed to do this.
One of wildest Indy 500 been: erratic moves inn and out pits, bizarre crash (flying tires!) darconians fendings (cut grass's Franchiti/Montoya incluid).
Le Mans is you turn, don't disapoint us.
Fr I thought a crew member was gonna die today!
@Wyld Stallion3292that was actually done by erricsson last year ironically and now everyone's probably going to do it until they outlaw. Newgarden said post race he disagrees with doing that but it's legal and he did what he had to
The coke 600 is yet to come, let's end this weekend well.
I'm surprised nobody hit the pylon.
@Bradley Jackson Indy 500 2023 imo miles above 2023 Monaco GP.
What a a race! You know it’s good when you’re not there and you get chills! Congratulations to newgarden!
Newgarden is the FUTURE INDYCAR GOAT.
@purwantiallan5089 One victory and he's a future goat? Slow your roll.
What an intense race. I couldn’t tell who was going to win. The Indy 500 really delivered this year with lots of action indeed!
The speed! Haven't watched Indianapolis in years, but I see they're finally moving up in speed again. Didn't know a soul in the race.
Same here but I'm learning about them. Some good racing.
One of the best celebrations ever. Definitely made some fans day. So cool!
That pit-lane setup is lethal. Drivers get the big bucks to take risks, mechanics dont.
Especially with women drivers. 🙄
WHAT. A. RACE!!! I am so glad that tire missed the grandstands and anyone behind it. Great event.
This race had everything. Passing, drama, announcers arguing, a miracle when the tire missed the spectators, a nail-biting victory.... Oh, and Grosjean crashed again.
So tragic for Pato :( but congrats Josef Newgarden!!! Well deserved
Pato is a choke artist and iam a fan
yeah Ericsson really shafted him.
AS A MEXICAN INDYCAR FAN, THIS IS A BIG PAIN, LAST YEAR PATO WAS 2ND AND NOW CRASHED, IN ESPN MEXICO TRANSMISSION THEY SAID MORE THINGS ABOUT CANAPINO (IS ARGENTINAN IF YOU DONT KNOW) AND LESS PATO
Tragic for pato?? Tragic for Alex
Agreed
What a race! This was my first Indycar race ever and it was sure a stunner. TK, you'll surely be missed 🇧🇷🇧🇷 :(
O Brasil chora com a aposentadoria dessa lenda eterna!😢
That was sure some great agricultural driving at 200+ MPH. Don't know how TK kept the car so straight in the grass.
New indycar fan here! Looking forward to see what these future seasons have in store 😎
What an incredible race! Indycar is the most underrated motorsport. Congrats to Newgarden, this one was a long time coming.
I compared it to Dale Earnhardt's '98 daytona win in NASCAR, one of the commentators even said the same thing: "Finally." After years of trying, winning everything else including multiple championships, but the biggest event is the only one they couldn't get, voila.
@Carl so true
@NASCAR Comparisons History is bound to repeat itself.
Oh no
@Carl the last lap of NEW vs ERI reminded me to RAI vs ALO Suzuka 2005 flashback. MONSTER MOVE by Newgarden!
Post Race, Danica Patrick and others said: "We are here to entertain. Changing the rules so the race doesn't end on a Yellow Lap should and will always be okay."
Im happy that many people understand this. Just like how F1 ended its last race in Abu Dhabi 2021, bending the rules is okay as long as it is fair and the fans get a banger ending.
What a race, so much action. Huge congratulations to Josef man he earned and deserved it. Amazing stuff, the Indy 500 did not disappoint.
Absolutely loved this race. Josef best Marcus at his own game.
THAT WAS AN INCREDIBLE RACE! Even watching the highlights after watching the full race was intense. Amazing stuff!!
Nice
This was my first Indy 500 since my dad and Gramps passed away. They took me when I was 8, was a great day and I know I wasn't there alone. Congrats Joseph for a great day and even better finish.
That was an exciting finish! I'm glad to see the Indy 500 still draws a massive crowd too.
Historic race. There in J seats. Better than last year, incredible drama the entire
Historic race. There in J seats. Better than last year, incredible drama the entire time it was anyone’s game. Indiana’s greatest event!
Not just Indiana's
👍👍👍
Him running into the crowd was epic..
For 12 years, he has waited for this moment...
@S.KullRandom for REAL
I will never forget this race. My father has bled Penske blood for 40+ years and to see the organization win in his final full time 500 before retirement was just incredible! And to witness the celebration in person, speechless.
Me and my brother were at the starting line when he jumped into the crowd and we both got pat him on the back and helmet it was an experience I will never forget
That's awesome. 👍
Such a great race today. Buncha maniacs on that track today. And Newgarden going into the stands was awesome. Most importantly, thank the Lord above that wheel went into the car park.
❤
Incredible 500 Race...one of the best ever. Newgarden was stoked and fired up after the race. Climbing the fence and mixing it up with the fans.
Great for racing. Congratulations Josef.
He didn’t climb the fence. He went through the fence.
This is one of the best Indycar races I’ve ever seen, even with the odd red flag situation at the very end.
What a race , great result for josef , well done to him
Inori Yuzuriha to Josef Newgarden: Omedetto Newgarden kun. ❤️
Great race! Great call by the officials not to end the race under yellow and terrific play-by-play! The announcers added sooooo much excitement and enthusiasm to the event! They really made it fun to watch.
I think I woke the neighbours up at 0300 laughing while watching it live here in Australia when T-Bell and Hinch had their arguement over the tyre.
@Russell Coight That was funny! It was certainly unexpected but definitely fun.
Another awesome edition of the Indy 500. Watching Rosenqvist and Ericsson constantly swapping position for the lead during the early stages was so fun. There were drama throughout the race and i was glad to watch entirety of it. Congrats to Newgarden
I've been watching the Indy 500 since the days of Mario Andretti, and this was one of the best! And kudos for an excellent highlights reel...
This will forever be the greatest spectacle of racing
It was amazing, but as a fan of the Isle of Mann TT I'd say it's a draw. 🙂
Well, that's after any race with corners in different directions.
When the Indy 500 had more exciting racing than the Rain Delay 600 this year... Congrats to Newgarden, amazing maneuver on the last lap!
Can't have more exciting racing than the 600 if the 600 didn't even happen yet
@AJMelonBain Ikr
The 500 is better than anything NASCAR has to offer. Every year.
@Vicarious Johnson Cool
@Vicarious Johnson way better than Daytona 500 train racing
What a race. Best 500 in some time.
Agree
Being there and seeing that move that Newgarden made off 2 on the last lap, that was the loudest cheer I have ever heard at any event.
What an unbelievable event! It was my very first time at the Indianapolis 500! Been watching since 2005 when Danica Patrick taken the lead. And now after 18 years it's been a dream come true! Looking forward to hopefully coming back next year!
I don't watch a lot of Indy car, but wow, what a thrilling race! Those guys have balls the size of grapefruits to do some of the moves they did! And congrats to Newgarden and that celebration with the fans is pretty epic!
As a Hoosier this sound makes me tear up uncontrollably. Can't help it.
Me Too!
I was there
The place went nuts when Newgarden took the lead and won
friggin gave me goosebumps!
Show me an F1 race in the last 15 yrs that provides this type of entertainment....you can't.
What a race.
what an epic race, incredible to be there in person
Amazing amazing
I was there with my son ! Nothing like being there!!! You can literally feel the tension in the air!
One of the best Indy 500's of all time.
Thats not an extended highlights, this was a cut without commerical breaks. Well done to Josef Newgarden! Well deserved win, it was great seing him build up that win.
It's the 50th anniversary of one of the most brutal Indy 500 races in history: the 1973 debacle which saw the death of Swede Savage and others. It's been a long time since I've seen such a screwball race. Congratulations to Josef Newgarden, his lovely wife, and their entire race team.
"Screwball race". Yep.
Brutal race? Savage died of staff infection a month later.
Who are the others? Salt Walther survived. One crew member died when he got hit by a rescue truck. Others is plural. Who are the others?
Never really followed indyca, but I will in the future. You know the race have been good when the highlights are 25 minutes of pure action.
This is the most epic racing I seen by far!! I was screaming for newgarden when he pass Ericsson 🎉🎉🎉!!
That was awesome, what a race today, the Indy 500 never fails, that was intense racing, those drivers have nerves of steel.
Now that's how you celebrate your first. Think I found another driver to pull for. This dude goes into the fans like it's a concert. We need more of that.
Great race. Love the engine sound.
F1 fan here watching IndyCar for the 1st time... Nice to see Grosjean still plugging in the consistency with the crashes :D
Everybody in that turn 2 grandstand really lucked out that day. Wow…
Kyle Kirkwood's front wheel spinning for about 20 minutes made me respect the bearings on the Indy car.
Made me wonder if he forgot what the left pedal was for 😃
@Jeffrey Rumbold - At that point, the brakes were probably useless.
What a great race.🇺🇸
The celebration at the end by Newgarden...EPIC.....
You won't see a finish like that in Formula "un". The 500 is magical!
I've been to every Indy 500 since 2002 today's race was insane and wild sitting in Turn 3 today crazy race
Race to remember! 🏆🏁 Thanks to God no one hurt by that tire. 🙏
That would have killed somebody!
@Evil Simeon it hit a car me and my friends were sitting there when our kids got scared when it looked liked it was going towards us.
@Evil Simeonbig chance. Menage to catch that flying wheel on two pictures with my camera, scary moment.
What a race and what a action among all the racers...
I love racing
Absolutely fantastic! Indycar is running rings around F1 right now - monstrous crowds, amazing racing, 20+ guys in with a chance of winning. Great stuff!
1 of the best 500s of my lifetime!
Agree
Is there anything more special than the start of the Indianapolis 500. It never gets old.
Indy is back. What a great race and a great race event. Those cars are amazing.
Man that tire could have taken out several people.
It was never gone!
For a moment, I thought AJ Foyt was going to have a heart attack. Regardless, Ferrucci's 3rd place finish was the best for an AJ Foyt car in forever.
Absolutely crazy race! Feels like it had it all! I'm not sure though (after having some time to think about it) if I like how that ending played out. Newgarden is however a very deserving winner and I find comfort in that. It was a really, really good race! Congratulations Josef!👏🏆
I felt sad for Helio and TK, 'cause they weren't nowhere near they used to be when racing at Indianapolis, especially TK, being his last Indy 500. He surely deserved to win once more. And Helio, as his MSR-Andretti car wasn't that good throughout last and this seasons to win his 5th. But man, what a beauty to see Newgarden winning, and moreover, Ericsson losing. Sorry Ericsson's fans, but I'm not his fan at all. Felt sorry for McLaren also, as Brazilian fans have so many good memories with White-and-Red Mclaren (and Penske) Marlboro. This race was amazing to watch. Thank you Indianapolis! You beauty never disappoint.
That was by far the best race I’ve EVER seen in my life. Un… REAL.
That tire flying off was so scary
Time to increase the catch fence. Luckily that tire didn't hit people, but man that was scary.
I watched both Monaco and Indy yesterday. This was the better race, hands down. Drivers really going for it and giving their all at Indy beats the F1 paddock's complacent or lax attitude about their finishing places any day of the week. O'Ward, Newgarden, and Erickson put on one of the best shows I've ever seen and can hold their heads high. Looking forward to next year!
I hear you. The thing about Monaco is that it's almost impossible to overtake. The real race is the qualifying on the Saturday. The actual event on the Sunday is a (high speed) procession.
@David Blake I know about the passing at Monaco, and yes, quali was so much better because anybody could crash. For me, it's more the driver's attitudes and mentalities. Max didn't show half the emotion or gratitude that Newgarden did upon winning. And compare Pato O'Ward's "risk it all for the win" to the overly content settlement of the other McLaren drivers in F1, and I know which driver(s) I would rather watch.
The first Indy 500 in a long time that has been worth watching again and again not just for Josef Newgarden's win but the insane crashes including the one with Kyle Kirkwood and the wheel that flew man...
What a call at the end, that gave me freaking chills 🔥🔥🔥
p17 to p1 just a terrific performance 🏆
Way better than NASCAR
The legend of Indy continues
Awesome race and bravo to NBC for such awesome coverage.
16:42 So happy for Newgarden, but IndyCar was sooo close to having deaths at the speedway be national news tonight. They have to investigate what happened with the wheel tether. We are so lucky that tire didn't go into the crowd and have a repeat of 1999.
i think the wheel tether was completely intact, the wheel hub itself might have broken and let the wheel loose. if that's truly the case, i'm not sure if anything can be done about it
I don't know what happened in 1999, and at this point afraid to ask, but something tells me it was similar to 1987 Talladega
That was very scary.
@igoris_batonas Yeah the geometry of the accident would be well outside any design parameter's. Going backwards at a 100 miles an hour and being hit by a car going 150 miles an hour...who would ever think of that as a scenario.
Was actually Michigan in 96, The U.S. 500, but I certainly get your meaning 👍
So happy for Newgarden and that celebration was the best I have ever seen a driver do after winning Indy 500. Fantastic!
Definitely an exciting race to say the least
One of the best Indy 500's ever!!!!!
I have never watched Indy car before, however seeing Grosjean crashing out randomly was so funny. Some things never change for people even when switching sports.
He crashes out on all the ovals, just can't seem to figure them out. But yes his reputation has definitely followed him! Even some street courses last year he spread carbon fibre across the track.
I'm 53 and this is the first Indy 500 I've ever watched. I picked a good one!
Couldn't have picked better in recent years!
This Indy 500 was wild af 😂 love it
🔥🔥🔥
I'm surprised nobody hit the pylon on the front straight.
This video was pretty solid! I've gone to the race in person for as long as I can remember. We didn't go this year and watched it on NBC, man was that painful. The race was 70% ads and it was really annoying to watch. I can see why my friends who don't go to the race don't like to watch it on TV 😂😂😂
A comemoração foi incrível!!!
WOW! This is the wild wild west of racing. I'm an F1 guy, but I think this is much more entertaining.
Switch to IndyCar! You won't be disappointed! And they have a mixture of ovals and street/road courses.
@poly cube and we are going new Detroit track next week
Brother, if indy is the wild west, than NASCAR is Omaha Beach, We have a single driver that every other driver is out to get, and the same driver who rode the wall last year, a driver that can say the N-word, come back to the sport the next year, and dominate, and Juan Pablo Montoya, who is mainly known not for his f1 days by NASCAR fans, but is known for slamming into a jet dryer at Daytona in 2012. NASCAR is insane, bud. (But also stupendously controversial)
@Carl Nascar sucks...is like crash dummies...lol
@Carl - NASCAR = Hillbilly racing, invented by moonshiners. [TRUTH]
This video is easier to watch than the actual broadcast today. The amount of commercials on the broadcast is beyond acceptable.
At least it was side-by-side, unlike Fox...
It won’t make a difference but I tweeted NBC Sports and went off at them about the ridiculous amount of commercials. At least I got it off my chest lol.
@Alec Thomas 😂 I'm sure while they are counting their millions they will take your opinion in to account.
@Jo Fi if I hurt at least one person’s feelings over there I’m happy lol
@Alec ThomasIf not for the commercials, it wouldn’t be televised at all…
Would be awesome if Indycar could build off this their marketing team keeps generating interest the rest of the season. The product is so good
😏👍🏽 What a race... loved the announcers enthusiasm throughout...
THAT WAS INSANE! BEST INDY 500 EVER!
Fantastic race. Congratulations to all participants
15:40 I was right in front of that dude when he did that. AMAZING!!!
