Canadian Forces started their training assistance mission in Ukraine in 2015. By 2020 they noticed something very important, Ukrainian military trainers were at par with western military trainers. In five short years Ukraine went from a top down inflexible command system to a much more effective western de-centralized command system.
Ukraine has hundreds of thousands of highly trained, highly skilled soldiers who are increasingly armed with the best equipment the world can make.
Russian conscripts untrained are often unfit civilians off the street and out of prisons.
Moscow may try another offensive, but when it is ready the AFU is going to punch so many holes in the Russian forces occupying Ukraine the entire Russian force will collapse.
Ukraine will do it this year because they are a great people led by a great war time leader many compare to Churchill including the British.
Russia is led by a fossilized relic of the USSR who would have gone to prison in any civilized nation, not the Presidential Palace.

Both the Ukrainians and the Orcs have dug in all along the front, with many fortifications dug in on both sides. That's why it's such a slugfest now, and why it's so difficult for either side to make sudden, dramatic gains. Let's hope this changes as the Ukrainians obtain more and more modern equipment from the West.

After the Russian retreat from the east bank of the Dniepr River, the need for the Kremlin to "buy time" was already quite tangible, mainly to reorganize its formations, then to set up massive entrenchments and fortifications in the occupied areas, finally completing the first tranche of the mobilization. From December onwards, the operational pressure on western Donetsk increased and the missile campaign on centers, nerve centers and civilian settlements in Ukraine reached the maximum possible intensity, also thanks to the support of arms and munitions from Iran and probably also from China indirectly (via North Korea). Despite the difficulties faced by Ukraine and a huge "Russian manpower", the frontline continued to be essentially the same as it was at the end of September. The Kremlin's gain in time can now be "counted" on the enormous losses suffered by the Russians and Wagner in the areas of Bakhmut and Soledar. At the same time, mobilization continues in Russia and joint training activities have been increased on the territory of Belarus - it is no coincidence that it is also used as a "diversion" for a potential attack on the northern border of Ukraine. Of mainly propaganda form is having placed AA defensive systems on the main buildings of power in Moscow. A blatant move, mainly aimed at making the Russian population very apprehensive, also fearing a possible Ukrainian attack on Russian soil. In reality... the Ukrainian attacks in Russia made themselves "seen" in terms of consistency of results but far from being the potential viaticum of any form of "counter-invasion". Lastly... the "unblocking" of Western diplomacies on the supply of MBTs... and perhaps (subsequently) also of combat aircraft should be noted. Presumably 4th generation jets... (perhaps... F-16, Gripen, Rafale, etc,... perhaps) but absolutely all capable of making "life" more than difficult for the Russian Air Force... that after 11 months of conflict it has not been able to obtain the air superiority that would have served the Kremlin to try to "tame" the resistance of the Ukrainians...! Talking about quantities and types of weapons aside, Ukraine, its people and its Army have always demonstrated an iron will to resist, courage and an absolute determination to fight against those who have criminally and barbarously invaded them.
Who knows what phase is expected starting from next February...? I very much hope that for the Kremlin and the Russian army it will continue to be a sort of "self-inflicted agony"... nothing more, nothing less than they deserve 🤨

UA should never end the war until Russia is thrown out of their sovereign land. However, I am not an Ukrainian and thus have no moral right to that opinion besides it being my belief. I am to old and frail to (be allowed to) join any conflict, so I cant loose anything by my position, but it seems the only sensible thing to do. The scenario of total victory is likely to create regime change and NATO must consider immediate membership status to Ukraine, unless Ukraine thinks otherwise, as the new regime is not guaranteed to be better (but will likely focus their evil inwards).

    • Piero HermAdones
      Piero HermAdones 2 months ago

I apologize for the intrusion, I read the comment, I consider it interesting and I try to add my reflection.
War remains the most extreme form of "Politics" and is usually "inaugurated" by those who believe they are superior to their adversary. It is a pity that within the concept of "superiority" the concept of "weakness" is implicitly revealed... which in the specific case is precisely that of those who want a war, because it implies that the war monger on duty has not been able to find a different (even more articulated) way to prevail and resorted to the apparently "easiest" solution to achieve one's political goals... and often also material, economic, etc.
Russia is certainly the obtuse "monster" of the situation, but also Ukraine, in my opinion under certain aspects, is co-responsible for the events ... above all in terms of evident "political short-sightedness" and poor management of internal problems. Let me be clear, the military turn of the matter was already predictable even before 2014, at the time of the Russian occupation of Crimea. It was because in 2008, to varying degrees and for various emotional "drives", the Political, cognitive and popular foundations originated which "proposed" the transition of Ukraine from the geocentric orbit of the "World Russia" to the more or less " Westernised", a condition already "assumed" in the countries bordering Ukraine to the east. It is obvious that in the Kremlin such freedom of "movement" for Ukraine was not even contemplated in their worst nightmares, just think of how the "unruly" Georgia and Chechnya were treated. The reactions were almost immediate, especially thanks to the aforementioned "Ukrainian myopia". For example, when in Ukraine linguistic rules were defined at the Legislative level which provided for the exclusion of Russian as the Official Idiom, this gave Putin & Associates the opportunity to start fanning the flames (not only metaphorically) of the identity of the Russophone population of Ukraine... a particularly "hot" topic in political terms just East of the Dnieper River. Obviously, Russia's motivations for subduing Ukraine were not limited to reducing the "Russian" language to a simple "dialect", or creating a subordinate and submissive Russian-speaking minority. It's about other things too... but for a "public opinion" inside Russia, historically accustomed to the concept of the "designated victim"... it was already enough to generate a strong resentment against those who wanted to betray the Russian identity...! 🤔
      I apologize for the tedium.

That's why Ukraine must endure and win in this war because if Ukraine losses, the next will be a country that is not allied with NATO or worst, the Hostile countries will follow Russia's path of conquest. Turning Ukraine into exhaustion is very challenging for Putin because Ukraine can replenished their supplies and equipment (Its all thanks to the allied countries) unlike Russia, it seems the replenish of supplies and equipment became difficult due to its sactions and loss of manpower due to the exodus of their citizens.
