    “What’s a bad miracle?”
Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope.
The film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.
Nope, which co-stars Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), is written and directed by Jordan Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) and Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions. The film will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide.

It also happened in the beginning of the movie at the barn, the radio was on, and stated that a group of hikers were gone and disappeared from nowhere, and then later on when OJ heard something it was the group of hikers that were screaming from up above, that’s how OJ dad got killed by that quarter earlier

The group abduction scene is one of the most claustrophobic moments of cinema I've seen in a while. The terror of being pulled up and then slowly and painfully suffocated, melted, and digested while listening to the screams of those above and below you.

@Carrick McHwain HAHAHA SPOILER ALERT FOR THIS COMMENT
The plastic bag scene isn’t supposed to convey horror. It’s supposed to be beautiful and surreal. The danger of looking at something so tempting is a metaphor for the dangers of creating spectacle and of looking for spectacle. So no, it’s not horror. You’re focusing on one part of the movie to make it look like my comment was about that scene and nothing else.
As for the ufo, the presentation does make it scary.
The digestion scene shows how horrible it is to be eaten by the ufo, and gives a good reason to want to avoid it. The raining blood scene also shows how scary the ufo can be. It explains how Otis died in the beginning. It also leaves room for speculation. Some think that dumping blood is a way for the ufo to mark its territory. Some think that the decision to dump on the Hayward ranch shows the ufo’s ability to hold a grudge. What best makes the blood scene scary is shock.
Shock is a big part of Nope, but what sets it apart from many other films is that the shock is well utilized. It’s not some throwaway scare as a last ditch effort to make the movie scary. The shock in Nope fits into the plot, and it sticks with you for the rest of the film.
Whenever the ufo passes by, you can hear its victims screaming inside of it, suggesting that it takes hours for them to finally die. Most of all, the decision to conceal the ufo until halfway through the film is an excellent way to build suspense. Also, don’t pretend that a large object moving towards you at high speeds won’t make you shit your pants.
Why don’t you offer some ideas of your own instead of just dumping on other people’s comments?

@CHOKED BOY OFFICIEL You see, the latter question is a good point that I thought about, it doesn't make much sense, but I feel like the alien isn't meant to be explainable, it's meant to be cosmic horror which is the fear of the unknown, that's how I view it. You're not meant to understand it. What you are meant to understand is the themes that it resembles.

    • CHOKED BOY OFFICIEL

@hi_13045 2 questions i would love to have it to be be enlighted, maybe you have any answer. How the creature uses cloud to his convenience to hide? how the creature causes electric shutdown while this is an organic creature and not a ship with emp dispositive?

Although this wasn’t just a horror movie, the horror moments were done incredibly. It didn’t rely on jump scares, but creating an uncomfortable environment. This movie’s cinematography is 10/10 and whoever said “you don’t want to take your eyes of” is 100% correct. Such a great movie.

    • Decaffeinated 4671
      Decaffeinated 4671 2 months ago

Nope was filmed in IMAX, not 3D or RealD 3D. The only formats at the time of release were IMAX and Digital (standard).
I would know, I saw the movie opening night prior to its release and 3 more times afterwards in 3 different theaters. Unless the theater illegally edited the picture somehow (hint: 3D movies don’t actually work that way, you need a stereoscopic camera when filming), you need to come up with a better lie.
Be happy that you experienced it, no need to lie about seeing it in 3D.

Supposedly this is actually from the Gordy's Home sequence. The man walking towards the carnage is like a superfan of the show, and the scene where the camera slowly moves towards Jupe hiding under the table is supposed to be the POV of that superfan. Apparently in the original cut, the superfan is the one that shoots Gordy as well.

Nope was a loving tribute/homage to classic Spielberg, in particular Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and especially Jaws. So many brilliant Spielbergesque qualities to this movie, from the characters and music to the cinematography and old Hollywood 1950’s style visual effects with the UFO. But it also reminded me of classic Alfred Hitchcock. The way that Jordan Pelle builds tension and suspense in this film( as well as all his films)and the suspense and buildup is better than the payoff, just like Hitchcock used to do. Even touches in the film reminded me of classic Rod Serling era Twilight Zone in the vastness and scale and scope of the environment and focus on a small number of characters in a mysterious unusual situation throughout

Jordan Peele became one of my favorite writer/directors of all time so fast because he is always doing something new and original, and not only that but he’s doing it so well. This isn’t just a movie about an alien attacking humans, it’s so much more, with the side plot of Gordy and the realization of what the UFO actually is and the symbolism of training the alien to try to get a good shot of it on film like they would with the horses they train for movies. Jordan doesn’t do the bare minimum when it comes to making movies, and he’s making such unique and creative movies in a time where there’s soooo many adaptations and remakes, and I appreciate his movies so much because of that

This film is fantastic! I can't wait to own it and be able to watch it whenever I want! Peele is a genius! Jean Jacket is astoundingly frightening yet gorgeous. Convinced it's actually an "angel" and that the species had been living with us since the beginning and the idea of The Rapture (being taken up) comes from. So many possible theories and ways for it to go. I want to sit and talk to Jordan but I know he will just say my interpretation is correct when I went the actual truth from his perspective.

They’ve always been here. There is no “out there.” Perhaps not in this form… but they have have ALWAYS BEEN THERE. This film displays a certain level of finesse and hidden meaning, that I think many have been missing for quite some time. Every single second was a morsel to be devoured. The imagery. The conceptualization. Likely, pulling from the very real experiences MILLIONS have had with this sort of thing, including me. And creating a uniquely harrowing tale. Just brilliant and terrifying. Mr. Peele is apparently a big fan of the Cloverfield series. Particularly 10 Cloverfield Lane. That's all I'll say to avoid spoilers. Decent film, though. Go see it

Thing is Michelle had plot armor those poor people didn’t and in a way you can kind of relate to the crowd because us the viewers much like the people going to the Star lasso experience had no idea what we were getting ourselves into and that makes for a great horror movie

Jordan Peele never seems to fail 🔥 that twist was definitely unexpected…to bad it spoils it at the end of the trailer for the ones who havent seen it yet

@Mr.LightzPlease although you have a point, if someone (like myself) sees a trailer that says "see it again", I'm assuming it will show major scenes of the film.
When I saw that title, I noped myself right off the trailer, went and watched the movie and then came back to the trailer.

Awesome movie, one of my favorites of the year, but why they gotta do that with showing everything in the trailer, way to ruin the surprise by saying what it isn’t and literally showing it in the trailer.

This movie contains multitudes. So deep and thoughtful, but also triumphant, full of heart, and a riveting cast. If you have not seen NOPE in theatres, you are missing OUT! In twenty years, we’re going to be talking about NOPE the way people used to talk about Jaws or Close Encounters, but in my opinion, it’s so much more than that. Go see it tonight, and then come join us on Reddit to talk about it!! Saw it three weeks ago and I can’t stop thinking about it.

This movie reminded me of the movie OLD, same build up / hype and once I was haft way threw watching it in theaters, the whole theater was all Disappointed, people that are all in love with this joke of an SyFi need to get off Peeles nutts! This movie was exactly how Jordan Peele looked like making it, all fucked up looking / made up lol

  • Nicholas Willig
Nicholas Willig 3 months ago +1

It was very good, but I like many others wish it had been a horror movie. I think I have a pretty good grasp of what Peele was trying to say about spectacle, and I don't think it would've been lost by making the movie horror. Like the whole "fake-out" scene earlier in the movie was SO SCARY. Imagine if he'd done a whole movie like that! Also, I think the chimp parts were really well done, and weren't just some artistic whim that didn't land.
