I doubt that the Russians were trying to close the circle around Bakhmut.
It is well established that it is better to leave a narrow way out as encircled fighters know they are likely to die so will fight much harder. Also the path out can be heavily targeted with artillery.
It's a classic Mongol maneuver.
Meat grinders have an entry slot where piles and piles of meat steaks are pushed in. Zalensky doesn’t understand this theory and he is pushing Ukraine personnel in the slot
I agree. That's what other analysts have been saying. Having fire control over these few remaining roads is devastating for Ukraine. Dima seems to be skeptical for the sake of it. This is the first time I've visited the channel in weeks because I can find better, more concise sources with less speculation elsewhere.

A bit of history. After the Red Army defeated Operation Citadel in summer 1943, their goal was to worm the Germans out of the Donets Basin (sp). This was a hard slog because, as you can see, with good defensive territory. Once this done, however, and the Germans were ground down, there was basically no place between there and the Dnieper where they could form a defensive line. Kiev fell in September and the Soviets were across the rive before the Germans could establish and "East Wall' along the Dnieper. The rest is history. I may be simplifying the situation, but it seems they still teach this campaign at the war college.
Great report, Dima, as always. Ukrainians are freezing out of fear in Kiew, because hundrets of new Shaheds are ready to strike. It will be a horror show, lets hope, Selensky sees the reality soon and makes peace, enough people died for a senseless war.
Why would the Russians want to close the 'cauldron'? If they do, they would have the Ukrainians in front and behind them. Secondly, Sun Tzu said an army should leave an escape route otherwise the trapped soldiers would fight with everything they have while leaving an opening would fragment and lessen their determination by giving them the option of escaping. I don't know why I haven't heard ANYONE say the Russians have purposely left the cauldron open for this reason.

I have some doubt about that, but maybe i am wrong. Stroming a city like the russian troops are doing righr now is costly. It sould be better to encircle it and then just wait for the enemy inside to surrrende to you after days with less and less ammo and food.

This is becoming the biggest conflict in 30 years. Obviously, the deaths are quite low, but it is looks like it is going to continue for another couple of years, so it may come close to the Rwandan civil war. Just terrible.

@Dr. Habib Wizzy Close to 4 million deaths so far in this massive conflagration spanning several countries. All over Coltan, Cobalt and other mineral resources. The mercenary forces alone dwarf anything in Ukraine. The armies are vast. Oil, gas and mining conglomerates have probably poured, as much military hardware into this conflict, as has been poured into Ukraine.
Zelensky has stockpiled plenty of depleted Ukrainium forces.

Thank you Dima!! Lately it has been noticed a slowdown in fighting at the end of the week, especially now when the official summer time has passed. Unfortunately, even the hour has become more expensive, three o'clock became four o'clock !!🤣!!! I personally retained a few other small "details" from these days. 1. Today was an explosion in the Tula region, which damaged three houses and injured some civilians. The explosion was caused by the crash of a Ukrainian Tu-141 drone. The most interesting aspect is how the Russians managed to shoot down the drone. They activated the Pole 21 jamming system which disabled any radio communication of the drone, attention, especially the GPS communication. This fact caused the drone to fall kilometers from a supposed military target. 2. Yesterday, the Russians captured (complete and intact) a Ukrainian drone wich had a Starlink antenna mounted on it! Why did the Ukrainians put something like this on a drone, but especially by what means did the Russians manage to do this, it has not been officially said yet. Yeap .. these achievements of the Russians are very interesting...and it is obvious that the Russian engineers have many, many, many unpleasant surprises for the Ukrainian and NATO imbe*ciles.... 3. The Russians started using a new smart ammunition, Krasnopol type, but of 122 mm caliber. The first video confirmation is of a Ukrainian tank on fire after receiving this new type of shell. And in the end, what can be called "LANCET week" could not be passed. Yes, the Ukrainians lost two more KRAB guns, a lot of M777 and others type, a pleasure to watch the LANCET videos. Some sources say that something is happening again, in Kherson!! Friends close to these sources say that they are working successfully. Let's be patient and we will definitely find out good news...

As long as the meat factory is still up and running making freshly ground long pork sausage meat the Ukrainian leaders are happy with the situation. They even sent in fresh meat to keep the transport lines open so the sausage meat gets out of Bakhmut.

Dima, Russian high command might have decided to keep the last road into Bakhmut open and has no plans to close the pincers. All videos about this road is terrible, lots of destroyed Ukrainian vehicles and the road itself is very muddy. Some vehicles are trapped in the mud, giving Russian artillery easy targets. The road itself has become the road of death.

I seriously don't understand why it's taking the Russians so long to advance, I know that the Urkainians have 80k men in the vicinity and do have artillery support but the Russians are firing 20-30k rounds while the Ukrainians fire 5 to maybe 10k daily. Also this last town that was shown and that should have been done for by the end of last year still not being under Russian control is a shame. The Madmen from the west will now use depleted Uranium Ammo to destroy the fertile land completely in the coming weeks, it's time to finally gain some territory, Russia has air superiority and should use it to take out the main force, it's time to use cluster bombs the US wants to deliver so badly against them and end this conflict quickly.

The Russian Army are following DIMA’s detailed military plan’s foresights most of the time. Russians have so many successes with massive casualties. With depleted forces, weapons and weapon systems, few attacks were registered in Lysychansk, Lyman, Vuhledar , and the southern front. Russian are sending fresh new recruits to replaced the departed troops.

You have to admit Ukraine is doing a great job. They've prevented Putin from closing the pincers. They clearly have plenty of ammo and equipment. The same can't be said of Putin.
Take a closer look, the Russians leave a gap for Ukrainians to depart. It's better than encircling an area completely and then having to fight forces who have been completely trapped, and also means they don't leave themselves to an attack from the rear.
