  • I got to go robot hunting! Because what else are you going to do if you're vegetarian and ferocious. This episode was just a special project, and we unfortunately don’t have any more episodes filmed. But sooooo many of ideas for things we’d like to do! So we might have more for you someday. Stay tuned!
I can't believe this episode is finally out. We filmed it this summer so it's been a long time coming. Thank you so so so much everybody who helped make this happen! Working together with you is one of the best experiences I've ever had. Also I'm sorry Daryl, your life was short and terrible. I would also like to apologize to the Malaysian Crocodilefish who appears in this episode. I think you are beautiful and one of the finest actors I have ever worked with.

I’m probably missing a joke, but that’s what she was trying to accomplish

    • kitty mcpaws
kitty mcpaws 3 years ago +51

@David Morley what the comment meant was that the "kill zone" she set on her robot deer is not the kill zone of a real deer, it would hit the digestive tract or even missed it and hit just flesh. But when she missed her "kill zone" shots it actually landed on where an actual killzone of a real deer would be (lungs, heart). It's not really a joke per se but just pointing out something ironically funny.

I love how the former vegetarian hunter makes a really good case for the ethics of hunting and the value of not only knowing where your meat comes from, but personally being invested in the emotional aspect of killing an animal for food. NIce! 10:18 "this is what I want to think. I want to think that killing animals is wrong" So refreshingly honest

    • DaimyoD0
      DaimyoD0 3 years ago +23

Agreed. Fundamentally I'm not opposed to hunting at all. Any option that is creating less demand from meat coming from factory farms is not only more sustainable environmentally, but far more ethical. Not to mention in a lot of places, (PA for example) we have extirpated all the natural predators and overpopulation of deer is not only a huge issue for highway safety and balance in the ecological community, but it is even creating undue suffering for the animals. I know if I had to pick either slow starvation, or being shot and eaten, I would pick the latter.
I am a vegetarian, and I have friends who occasionally skirt on the side of fad-diet elitism, and everyone seems to forget that the quinoa they're eating is being grown in land plots that were clear cut out of the Amazon rain forest. All subsistence has consequences, ethical and environmental. Our responsibility is to understand our own impact and make it as personal as possible to us.

    • jorgepeterbarton
      jorgepeterbarton 3 years ago +6

The problem being a) in vast cities hardly everyone can hunt, so its like an exclusive activity b) in vast industrial complex there still is no need to because weve developed substitutes. c) still, ecosystems can be destroyed by hunting you are still detached from that, just some connection to death of an individual animal? But while depleting fish stocks. I dunno. It would be worse for the environment. Its the demand being so high that requires batteries. Which is why meat eating to the degree we do now just sucks. I do get though it was more a small quantity- once a week or something for a millenia until macdonalds and frozen food and batteries. And people saying "we are omnivores thus every meal is meat!"..thats kind of ok if we did less.

    • Thomas Gourley
Thomas Gourley 2 years ago +5

Agreed, I'm very grateful for her take on it and that same view is honestly most hunters' take on why they do it. I think a lot of the time hunters are labeled as some bloodthirsty killers when that is simply not true.

    • AutoTuna
      AutoTuna 2 years ago +4

@Thomas Gourley You're absolutely right. Plus let's face it, a carrot is also a living creature, but we're biased to think killing animals is "wrong" because we're animals too. We grow or gather plants to eat without a tinge of guilt, because we don't think of ALL living things as fellow creatures. And fellow creatures eat each other to survive. It's not evil or wrong. It's just the way nature is.

Heres a little rant for Simone! ❤ School is for imprinting and conditioning, it ruins your aspects of the real world where you need skills that they don't teach you. College on the other hand, encourages you to be creative and innovative and helps you learn skills in your life you'll actually use. (Most likely for a job) If I didn't find you two years ago, I wouldn't have thought about going to college to study forensics and criminal justice, the thing I was actually interested in that school never even told me about! I'm impressed with the either the camerawork or the editing. It looked like they were switching between a bunch of different angles without getting any cameras in frame.

I'm still laughing my @$$ off from the robot deer. The movement was so ridiculous... I just couldn't help myself. I love this channel, sooooo much.

Simone this was amazing! As a Vegan and Mechanical Engineer who grew up watching Mythbusters and Starwars this really hit home! Showcasing Mark Anderson, and Adam Savage really demonstrates the power you have as a creator. I believe that this show has the potential to be the inspiration for the next generation of makers, tinkerers, and engineers! Production style and comedy were spot on for this audience. I believe you're particularly setting a great example for young women interested in the field as well!

Look, I saw this when it first came out, then several times after and now again today. Still, even knowing that Simone always(?) gets her kill, i nearly peed my pants. Simone you are so awesome. I love you. Thank you for allways making me smile.
