I love Truckla. It would be nice to see any auto company release such a small truck in America today. They do get made & sold for SE Asia and other areas. Dozens of hours into a prototype charger that saves 5 seconds per day. Anyone can build a prototype. Mass production is hard. I wonder who said that?

Truckla is looking great, and chargela did amazing under pressure!
I think chargela might benefit from a lower jerk (smoother acceleration) motion profile. Because of the very top heavy design, any large *changes* in acceleration (ie jerk) is very much seen in the disjointed mass. By reducing your jerk and slowly ramping up that acceleration, the sudden change up top is not as strongly felt, and will make positioning easier and the whole robot safer from tipping!

    • Nathan DuPhene
      Nathan DuPhene Month ago

It's faster to plug your own car in when you get home. Okay, maybe if you walk away you're saving 5 seconds while Chargela takes 30 seconds to plug in. But what if it misses? This is probably why Tesla never went anywhere after making their own prototype. Mass manufacturing takes effort. And what's the market for a $3k robot that saves you no time over a $300 wall charger?

    • Tim Lesher

@Nathan DuPhene plugging in the charger by yourself would not make an engaging Clip-Share video. It's ok to have fun for fun's sake.

  • Ярослав Вершинин

Since both Truckla and Chargela are custom - it would be easier to add a ring around the port to latch onto. With correct geometry and a bit of free rotation for the charger, it would even align itself correctly before pushing in.

I am glad to see an update on the truck. I honestly like the looks of your truck over the "upcoming" Tesla made truck. I find that a bit odd looking (and I love odd looking vehicles like the 86-91 Taurus/Sable and the Pontiac Aztek). But I am curious about the robotic charger. What is the point? I feel this is a solution to a non existent problem. It is not that hard to charge an EV now (step 1- open vehicle charging door, step 2- remove charge cable from cradle, step 3 - plug charger into vehicle, step 4 - remove cable and replace cable on cradle and step 5 - close charger door. But it was nice to see how this thing gets developed.

@Mr. Bennett I think the turn signals and break lights are still stationary on either side of that tail gate. The only lights that are attached to the tailgate would be the reverse lights. If those have to remain stationary as well, auxiliary reverse lights could be integrated into the bumper fairly easily.

Actually you can, but they can't be the only ones. There would have to be a set on a non-moving portion.

  • Extra stuff
Extra stuff 2 months ago +1

Nice update video, that ending somehow is perfect for your channel. Actually finishing projects is always hard, got some issues with that myself those last details that are at times important too (like waterproofing) are worth getting done as tedious as they might be. Would've been absolutely essential here where I live but I guess in LA it can wait.... a few years.
I must admit I was slightly disappointed in the tailgate not being automatic in its opening and closing, but it certainly looks sturdy and functional.
I'm not sure how I'd describe that scene when observing the charger trying to do its thing for the first time, be wary of rogue teslas getting near chargela though! They might want to steal some free electricity.

While you were listing off all the issues, all I could think was that it sounds pretty much like a late 80s Ford pick-up my Dad had.

I'm so happy to see Truvkla again and that she's almost finished.👍They did a fantastic job. Very impressive.
Now you'll be able to really enjoy using it. Maybe we will see Truckla in more videos now. Chargela was hilarious.

I was just thinking the other day, "I wonder what happened to Truckla?" Great timing. Thank for the update, Simone! 🙂

It's the Simone Giertz touch to her videos that make me smile. The leaving slowly for coolness and safety and humor is something many engineers on here would do, but it's Simone that's awesome enough to just nicely and somewhat awkwardly add "I hope you have a good day." Now I'm leaving the video smiling and having a good day. Thanks Simone.

I like how nobody found it strange to see a lady casually walking a robot through the streets

Cool - I think an adaptor that would allow the charger to screw on would work great.
Similar to a gun's breach or bolt locking lugs.
Then a 1/4 rotation would sinch the plug in with some powerful torque.

Simone, you look good. I was really worried after your brain surgery and it looks like you really recovered well. It took me a long time to say it, but I saw one shot of you in this where you looked like you were just Chill. I hope you're doing as well as you seem.

The drive over induction chargers are promising. In a similar vein, a self-aligning charge arm as you drive into it would be a clean solution.

I think it's easier to put a sensor instead of a camera. like on the things in the shops little stickers with a capacitor and an inductor. The robot will emit an electromagnetic pulse and look for where the return signal is coming from. I would also make the lower part of the robot a bit heavier, with slightly larger wheels and with a more powerful drive at a slower speed.

Lower center of gravity, larger wheels. I would like to see it more stable. Plus, v2 should be able to connect from farther away to avoid scratching the paint. Still, majorly awesome and creative. Whoo hoo!🎉❤❤❤😊
