  • More than 400 wildfires are still burning in Canada. Government officials say approximately 3.3 million hectares (8.2 million acres) have so far been scorched. This is video of fires burning in British Columbia. Smoke from the fires in Quebec and Nova Scotia triggered air quality warnings in several North American cities including New York. I’m in Jersey and I was wondering why does the sky look like that and air has a weird smell like a campfire or someone burning wood. now I understand… that’s insane that something can spread so far

I live in the Sierra Nevadas, so I know what it's like to breathe so much smoke for extended periods of time. My best to everyone who is going through this. When it happens in California, some snarky people have felt the need to add insult to injury. Please don't do that. We're all gonna be seeing some bad shit. We need to stick together and be as kind as possible.
Hang tough, Canadians and Americans in the northern part of the contiguous states. We love you.

I was wondering why I was able to look at the sun for a prolonged period without having to immediately avert my eyes and it had a weird orange tint. Didn’t realize it was smoke. And now I can fathom how a super volcano could blot out the sun completely and send us into an ice age.

@Patrick Simmonds Of course I know that. I just happened to look up and see the orange color and in that momentary glance, realized it wasn’t burning my eyes like it usually does. It’s not gonna kill your eye sight to look at the sun for a few seconds. I wouldn’t spend hours gazing at it.

Just curious why religious people throw their religious beliefs into every conversation? Do you religious people realize that every does not believe in religion and that many people find it insulting that you would assume that they believe in the things that you do?
Praying is you communicating with an invisible imaginary being through telepathy and believing that being is hearing you. I and many others find this to be disturbing and question your ability of reason and logic and who knows what other crazy things you believe or might do.

    • ChevyBaby TV
      ChevyBaby TV 3 months ago

@Randal Bystry it’s ok to be curious my guy, but answer this, how could you consider yourself a real man and not believe in anything? Like do you even believe in yourself.. just because your a nonbeliever doesn’t mean everyone don’t, I can assure you that more people believe than not so keep your negative in whatever smelly dark place that you are in and leave the positive people alone. Never understood what’s wrong with dark people who love spreading negativity like you it’s sad. Praying that you see better days g! 👌🏾

    • Nanoro_bot
      Nanoro_bot 3 months ago +17

      Back burning.
Essentially, to stop a wildfire of this scale, powder or water isn't going to help. The best option is to burn the fuel - forest - ahead of the main fire, so there'll be a perimeter of no viable fuel to spread to when the large fire front arrives; forcing the wildfire to double back on itself or be redirected somewhere less damaging, and hopefully burn itself out.
It's utterly baffling that people are using that footage to try and claim this was a setup, when this is stuff you learn in elementary school. It's as basic as wildfire fighting goes. "Fight fire with fire" comes specifically from this.

My first thought, and admittedly an awful one, was imagining if this were similar to the way fallout from a nuclear blast could migrate. The sky in my upstate NY town is in fact, painted an eerie post-apocalyptic ochre-gray. The smell is not like that of burning wood, rather like that of burning trash. I've never witnessed anything like this in my 52 years.

What’s with the helicopter spitting fire at the start of the video?

    • Nanoro_bot
      Nanoro_bot 3 months ago +1

      @pjd design Back burning.

    • So D'Vine
