I can hear every other open-world game dev crying bitter tears about how hard it's gonna be to steal that fusion mechanic -R
real devs don't complain, they just dev
The amount of hatred this comment has gotten is making me lol
I hope not, it's not any different than the ways you'd implement equipment on a character.
@Bit Universe and also elden ring took inspiration from it
@Kay Nintendo are one of the if not the best game "developers" in the world. The craft of game development does involve graphics and such. But, moreso, it involves novel ideas. Nintendo just has such a creative team working for them. With beautiful ideas and the appropriate amount of polish. As someone who works in the industry its beautiful to see.
I loved the little confirmation that Zonai are more involved in this game at 3:34 with the Zonai Charge item. The Fuse ability is definitely interesting, albeit I do find it strange.
Not so fast, bot.
The fusing is absolutely incredible and it’s going to make everything feel even more hands on and interesting. And the fact that you can go straight from the sky islands to the surface with no loading screen is absolutely insane to me. So excited!!!
@Jonsly Just report that bot, will ya?
@ChimericalWhite that's a ridiculous comment. You could fall from any point. You can fly wherever you want in the sky. It's like saying walking from one place to another is a loading screen.
@Ridwan Ali but still It might be like that, is just something developers does soo It flows perfectly with the Game world
It like Zelda combined with Garrys mod
Skyward sword finally done well
New Abilities: Recall 2:06 Fuse 4:01 Ultrahand 7:32 Ascend 9:52
Watching this as a Mechanics Programmer is insane. I'm so envious of the tools that must have been created as a result of the fusion / combination systems. This game looks amazing!
@Maroxad this is just a common mechanic from "open world survival craft" genre. The whole building a raft is not new either. Kerbal players are prolly laughing at this video.
Anyway, its nice to see this mechanic in a rpg, rather than on full-blown survival game with no plot. But yea.. this is not that revolutionary
@Maroxad I also want to specify the emergent gameplay point. When you turn logs into planks in MC, it just happens. You get an exact replica of that thing. Here you can make it any way you want. Not all boats, cars or flying machines will be equal.
@Centrioless Similar in theory perhaps, but could be massively different in application. Crafting we see in most video games is more akin to a shopping system with different currencies. This looks to emphasize emergent gameplay over another grind.
Its just a different flavor of crafting system
It doesn't feel real that this game is only a a month and a half away!
@Matt Content are called videos
Oh hi Zack!! I used to watch your Angry Birds videos!!
Isn't it crazy how a stupidly bad made game like Scarlet and Violet came out just a few months ago?
Yea Zack I watched your botw gameplay videos but it was after playing and beating botw it was a masterpiece and totk is going to be another masterpiece Nintendo is taking being innovative in the gaming industry to a whole new level
11:47 who else was amazed at the dive that created a splash making it rain for a bit?
So glad I'm not the only one amazed by this. I freaking love small details like this!
@Blako Desu they’re saving that for BotW 3
yeah! i though it was rainning
@Fernando H Kayser No way, is it confirmed already?
I really liked the diving in Twilight and Skyward, I missed it in BoTW and was hoping to see it here. The diving can add a ton of exploration and some cool dungeons.
Yeah that was sooo neat I thought u was the only one who noticed lmao
It's clear that the vehicle building mechanic was inspired by people using balloons in the first game to make things fly, and I love that they ran with it. I can't wait to see all the crazy things people build!
Also, the weapon fusing is wacky and very cool!
mind blown. genuinely fills me with so much happiness that all the time they took was to create such amazing and creative new innovations in the game! that fuse ability looks bloody amazing, especially incorporating the flying objects people were already making in botw! looks like a potential masterpiece we've got on our hands if all goes as well as the first game; mixed with the familiarity of that score when link was riding the horse, it's like coming back home after all this time to gradually see hyrule is more breathtaking than ever.
Eiji Aonuma gave a hint about using the Ascend ability to escape from a cage. I think this is a huge hint that getting captured by enemies or traps will play a big role in this game and maybe even hints at scenarios in which you work your way out of dungeons or dungeon type settings.
Seems as if enemies will be evolving too
Also, music sounds absolutely amazing. Botw's soundtrack is what got me into composing in the first place
Does anyone kinda hear the start of ganons theme when he's first in the sky?
@Lyle 84' Rito Village, Goron Village, Zora's Domain, the Horseback song, Ancient Tech Lab themes, Kakariko Village, the battle themes.
They all exist. That's not even all the music in the game I can think of that isn't the minimalist non-distracting soundtrack exploration music.
@Lyle 84' surely you're joking lmaooo
@Benjamin Anderson literally every game does orchestral music to make it sound all pretty. And yes, songs can sound generic, but look at games like oot and mm. They have unique and memorable music. Botw’s is lack luster
i know this game is gonna change my life again like breath of the wild did
@bigFLX like he said in the video he cannot show a lot but he showed some of the video game mechanics isn't that enough for you
@Daniel guys stop pinging me, you are late to the party i dont even read your answers there are already 150 comments to scroll down lmfao
@NerdyNooki how has Spider man and Genshin impact make BOTW ideas better, I can understand Elden ring and I totally agree RDR2 but Spiderman ps4 and GENSHIN IMPACT
@King7 you seem to not know what a sequel to a game is. You are expecting a completely different game right?
@FlipFlopGod I bet you wait every year for a new COD game that doesn't change anything
This is visually stunning and I love how you bring back elements of Skyward sword too
This is awesome. Genuinely awesome. My favourite part is how the droplets of water that get launched into the air when link dives into water fall back down. Just cool.
I came straight to the comments right after that part thinking it was too cool to get unnoticed
With the Fusion mechanic I'm not at all surprised that they chose not to make a ton of updates to the overworld. The mechanics themselves are going to change the game so much. Very excited about what is to come and to finally learn more of the lore behind the Zonai!!!
With the Ascend ability, imagine a completely sealed secret cavern: You’re in a cave, you want to go to the mountaintop, so you use Ascend. But instead of popping up at the top, you pop up in a secret sealed cavern that you didn’t know was above you the whole
Curious to know how is the story transition from BOTW to this as well the main storyline for this game. The fuse feature was amazing. For sure that took a lot of time to be made plus the added places above the sky. Can't wait to play it soon!
The Fuse ability is insane. The Possiblities you'll have with it, is astonishing
@Voland - Nintendo America having their employees' kids post on Clip-Share and then paying Clip-Share to move those posts to the top of the feed. In combination with Clip-Share's bots that post whatever they are told to say by Nintendo's money.
@Jacey Bella as neat as that sounds i'm probably going to stick to the switch for this one because i want to expand my switch game library. I already have more then enough games on PC to enjoy
@EdouardPicard0224 did u even watch the gameplay? Fuse is with the weapons, not the materials
@Brandon Starstorm Could be used as bait for bokoblins
Wow, absolutely blown away! I didn’t know how they were going spice things up but this is incredible!! I’m so pumped to play!
Bringing the best things from Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, this game is going to be the best yet. I can’t wait to play it, and the music sounds incredible.
@Jed I agree with you on this, I am also very excited about this game. They spent a long time on this and I hope people will see that...
@Kanalbenenner Yeah, I miss old Zelda style like Ocarina of time, Majoras mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess...
@Sausage not really
@Galaxy Creations of course, but I would love to have another new experience as magical as the old Zeldas were.
At least some more colours would be nice, I understand that its about the ruins of a kingdom, but I hope we see the kingdom in its glory one day.
@Kanalbenenner i mean you dont have to play it. All the past games still exist to enjoy.
the fuse ability is absolutely crazy I can’t believe how much work must have went into that mechanic!!
VERY impressive. Looks like there are a LOT of possibilities. Makes me wanna get this as soon as it comes out.
Nintendo saw that people were flying around by using multiple objects together, so they decided to embrace the idea and add the Fuse ability. Absolutely incredible. The sheer amount of crazy inventions we'll see from that ability is going to be nuts.
@James Curfman It's a presentation, he probably cleared his inventory. And about the 80 dollars thing, don't believe everything on the internet.
well yea but is that what Zelda games are known for, adding mods to a weapon? lol
Speedrunner going to do even more crazy things now and will give more feedback and ideas to Nintendo.
I'm sure someone will build a flying tank
hands down the best game series imo. I remember playing botw for the first time when i was 16 knowing barely anything about it and how magical it felt, this looks like it’ll give me that same feeling. Props to the entire team who made botw and totk :)
@TippyHippy some depressed singer did that in the past
@Braidz MC >Claims OP is trolling
>Is the actual troll here
@Braidz MC dude just compared botw to ubisoft open world BAHAHAHAHZBA
This game will be a legend forever, I can’t wait for it to come out
OMG I can't wait, been playing all the Zelda series since they started.
I really like how the fuse ability make monster parts a lot more useful than mass selling to Beedle
might end up using the same groups of monster part throughout the game because of its ability
@Jack Dout the idea itself isn't exactly new or extremely creative. But the reason people are so excited about it is because of the many possibilities that it opens up for weapons. Its a simple yet great idea. And its perfect for an open world game like zelda.
I just like buying everything from Beedle just to make him happy
Yes! I love that they managed to give the old items unique new life. They're not just adding new things but making the already existing things even greater.
I think I've seen that fuse ability in another game before, it was back in the PS2 age.
I am so happy that we all have been patient about this game. Look at the fruits of their labor and look what our patience and support, alongside their hard work has created. That fusion mechanism is amazing! I am SO grateful and excited that Aonuma and the team created Fuse so as to make combat more accessible for individuals who are not so confident or capable in the fighting aspect! I take a very strategic approach to killing enemies and I always have in all the Zelda games. Seeing that long range stick/farmers pitchfork and keese eye/arrow fuse made me ecstatic! I truly cannot wait (but can/will) for May 12!!! I cannot wait for all the forums, threads, memes, and our communities to critique, explore, show, and speak about everything!
i loved the flora and fauna in botw - now in the sequel the world seems to be even livelier! I am so looking forward to the game :)
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who loves the detail, but I thought it started raining as soon as he hit the ground, only to realize they have an actual splash when you dive, then geeked out about it.
I’m so glad he’s not spoiling movie scenes or quests, just showing perks of Link’s new abilities so we would know what to do with them. Love it!
I have never wanted to play something so badly in my life. I need May to get here NOW.
I've taken May 12 off work... My boss thinks I'm hilarious.
@大ダイ wtf is up with all the Debbie Downers in here?
@Chauncey 4 People at start, apparently there are two more people at Team Cherry now. More importantly however, is the fact that Christopher Larkin actually has the funding for fully orchestrated music, rather than a purely digitally composed soundtrack.
@w finally a genuine reply, I agree 100% both will be good. Saying a 2d game like hollow knight (SS) will have less content is a matter of perception but, you may have me on this point definitely. An open world tht may be very null and void after awhile, granted these new abilities are gonna be a game changer for exploration and game breaking glitches maybe? Finally, hasn’t team cherry been working on silksong for 5-6 years, with only 3 people? HK was a under budget rushed project. I hope they’re both fantastic games and I’m gonna eat my words on negatives I’ve proclaimed but, we will see. I know with TLOZ releasing 1st potentially. silksongs gonna have a banger of game to follow I’m sure 2023 gonna be a exciting yr 4 sure.
@And Yeah but price can
This fusion mechanic has me laughing my head off, especially comically long fork, but this is actually brilliant and a huge step up from BOTW!! I’m so excited to play this game, and to watch how other people play to get even more amazing trick shots and speed run strategies.
i'm just imagining how many more years players will take to continue finding new fun things to do in the game until we reach the next one, freaking impressive!
The flying raft makes me so happy! I REALLY wanted to make an airship in the prior game, using a raft and some Octorock Balloons, and was sad that wasn’t possible.
Yeah those Octorok balloons don’t last long and they do pop.
But with the fan,
It’ll be fantastic to make an airship.
What do you think…Captain of your own airship?
Gold star move. Nintendo saw people janking BOTW with flying machines and levitating boxes and instead of cracking down on their glitchy nonsense, they applied their physics engine to make that kind of creativity a main gameplay mechanic. Absolutely stellar stuff.
@Joki it’s a Japanese thing be modest. He’ll say Nintendo games are the best all day long but in reality he knows he makes real games for adults
@XDarkEcho I watched in hopes they would listen to player feedback and stop making easy Sesame Street games. After watching this they haven’t learned anything for the first botw. Children make these games more popular thrn they should be. Link and Mario are the new Burt and ernie
@Justice Higgins beautifully simple control that requires u to do complex actions. Nintendo is like the new Sesame Street and Mario and link are Burt and Ernie.
@Wackaz another super easy Nintendo game made for babies. Wake me up when when the difficulty setting is off story mode.
The bird carrying the bokoblin right at the end of the demonstration is giving me Wind Waker vibes! Hyped to see what they shout out in this game!
One thing that struck me with the first game was just how unbelievably creative the fans were. Between electric flying minecarts and sneaking on enemy's heads to jump, people were able to come up with a super incredible range of ideas that I never
the new abilities seem like great additional features. i love the fuse ability, looking forward for the release already.
I like how they knew freedom was what made Breath of the Wild amazing, and in Tears of the Kingdom, they just expand upon it.
I can’t wait to buy this game when it comes out 😊
Speedruns gonna be fun
@Sometf2player bro that's crazy, Link woke up in a new bugatti-
I think some people are already fusing salt with their own eyes...
"Screw playing the game I wanna watch my fAVoRITE stReaMEr play it for me!" -Average gamer these days
@This guy Dannyyy woooah a time traveler here
Rewind + Tree launch = Chaos
Speedruns of this game are gonna be absolutely bonkers, especially with that ascend ability. If runners in BOTW were able to use stasis and shield riding to bounce across the entire map in seconds its gonna be insane to see how runners use ascend and fuse
I’m so excited!! Falling in love with the legend of Zelda more and more
The Zelda devs always find cool and new unique ways to change the gameplay, always! Very innovative team, and will go down as one of the greatest!
The circuit breaker mechanic is definitely inspired and looks like it will bring more experimentation to exploration and combat
I love how they saw people fly with a mine cart and made it a freaking feature.that’s so sick
Aonuma-san just casually showing off what's going to be one of the best games of all time.😄
HOLY- THIS IS AMAZING! could never of guessed they were going to add a fuse mechanic!
The new abilities are going to make speedruns of this hilarious - can’t wait to see what people come up with
I never wanted this gameplay demo to end.
I am sure GI devs were looking forward to this game. So many things they can take "inspiration" from.
In all seriousness, I am happy we are finally getting a game where bundles, battle passes, top-ups and whatnot is not part of it. I cannot wait to make a one-time purchase, enjoy the game at my own pace and move on without worrying about getting brainwashed by mind tricks designed to keep me addicted and spending money in a never-ending cycle.
i started with link to the past as a kid. and i beat every console game since then. but this is the most excited i have ever been. thank you so much for making another amazing zelda!
New Abilities: Recall 2:06 Fuse 4:01 Ultrahand 7:32 Ascend 9:52
@Sharmila Krishna Kumar There literally is a sheikah slate slate in the bottom right though
@Sam T Dude I have a doubt,
How we are able to see the map if there is no sheika slate? 🤔🤔
@Sam T I wish we would still have old abilities, but I believe that since it is a new game, we will all start from scratch without any of the abilities from BoTW.
@Sam T i hope so they were extreamly useful
you think we’ll still have the old abilities? Magnesis and Stasis are sorta represented, but what about Cryonis? and surely we’ll have bombs?
This Demo was the perfect amount of a reveal. It didn’t give too much away, but just gave us enough to be excited for what is to come. 🥰 I’m so stoked for its release!!! I can not wait!!! 😄 I think it’ll be well worth the wait. And also, that new Switch being released in its honor… 😱😱 SIGN ME UP!!! 😍😍
Looks fantastic! Can't wait to play it!
The fuse ability now explains why the Master Sword looks new in the logo for the TOTK. I can't wait to give it a go!
Love the new fusion mechanic!! That adds a lot of variety and replay value, plus the ability to craft vehicles looks like fun! I hadn’t been so exited to play a new game in a long while. Good job Nintendo! (I wish you had connected it to the previous game if you had it, though, as if it was a giant DLC pack.)
I am weeping with joy. Thank you so much Aonuma-san
Wow. They somehow managed to address the two biggest concerns people had with the first game (climbing being boring and durability being eh) without removing them or trivializing the mechanic. Sincerely impressive.
@jano Gabor Open world isn't a dungeon. I don't want the only puzzles to be in the open world just for a piece of loot.
They can make traditional dungeons/temples, but no one is sure if they've added them to this game. There's so much more room for creativity in this game for new puzzles and elements to work.
@jano Gabor I don't mind climbing either. It's not that bad if you focus on stamina for your initial round of upgrades. Once you have two full wheels, you can use the leap option to make it much faster on smaller inclines. As long as there's some slight ledges on bigger inclines where you can stop and replenish for a second, climbing goes by pretty fast.
@NCR Veteran Ranger They obviously can and they did. They are building the world as if it was a dungeon, the sandbox elements, the creative problem solving it's all because of that.
@Guthrie Henderson-Clark The open world is built like a dungeon.
@Ecky Boi Climbing was so fun it basically became a huge thing to copy.
This was an amazing gameplay video and I am looking forward to the results!
The fuse is the weirdest and most random thing I have seen ever... And I love it
But I wanna see how they gonna balance it
Also enemies doing it too is gonna end up with some really funny stuff like the one that just flings link off the island is so funny
I'm actually very excited about the game now it's truly gonna feel like a proper adventure going through it like experimenting along the entire way to the end with different stuff and enemies surprising you with annoying weapons... I like it
This looks even better than I thought it wold be!
This looks so awesome, I cannot wait!
it's gonna be difficult to top this game mechanics for a looong time, even in the Zelda franchise. The things you can do, the amount of exploration are INSANE
I love that the fusion hand ability basically tells us that they saw players making flying machines with boxes and minekarts and went "Write that down! WRITE THAT DOWN!!"
Fun fact: aounuma (sorry if i spelt that wrong) actually saw mety333 using the flying machine so he probably got inspired by that for the ultrahand ability
Don’t need to waste rupees on elemental arrows anymore.
Yeah I think people got very creative with the little ressources they had (in terms of being able to assemble different pieces together) and Nintendo just went with that lol.
That’s the reason you should let players experiment haha
@Guilherme Feyh 🤨🤨🤨
I'm hoping in the end game we regain access to the original sheikah abilities as well as the new ones shown here, hopefully with a quick swap button shortcut integrated in. The possibilities could be even more endless.
Much more excited for this game now, this looks so fun
The fuse mechanic is just brilliant. And a great compromise to the criticism about damaged weapons
its so beautiful and loving all the new mechanics
Looks amazing! I just hope to god there are difficulty levels to the game
I love how they saw players using thinks like octobaloons, boats, mine carts, stasis, and the general physics engine (as well as other materials and abilities) to make weird machines and mechanisms and just went “yeah, let’s put that in the game”
It looks incredible and I’m so excited to make the weirdest mechanisms imaginable!
@junie two knees Now all you gotta do is slap the chuchu jelly on the arrow. They jist made it easier to do lol
Imagine what unintentional behaviors players can discover.
@space blanket yes, but the concept for all of that is established with the existence of one ancient civilization
@Astraes L Just speaking facts 🤷🏼♂️
There is always that one guy complaining
Gorgeous open world with tons of details and now have more mechanics it will be the bomb for this year. But just in my opinion, I have played the previous game and the gameplay is kinda easy for me when we have too much option for good weapon, consumables for regen and no death punishment and even the mob is not really hard there are ways to cheese them. I hope this game will make it more difficult is some ways.
It seems like this Zelda has a lot in common with Skyward Sword. The floating islands, the cage he landed on, the little robot he fought all remind me a lot of that game. The new stuff is insanely cool though. Recall makes so much sense for the time control that usually exists in Zelda games.
this.. this was absolutely AMAZING
I hope certain items can be fused together to make standard weapons. Like bokoblin bone on a stick to make a bokoblin weapon. Like if you find the recipe you could create any other weapon and if what you fuse isn't part of a recipe it slaps them together like the examples shown in the video
Just seeing the little but of gameplay here genuinely brought a tear (pun definitely intended) to my eye I cannot wait for may to get here
That fuse ability is even crazier than I originally imagined. We are going to be seeing videos years after the game comes out of people finding the best fuse combination or combining things that are across the map.
@clydefrosch because being able to merge through walls, shoot magical arrows, or carry thousands of items in a single backpack all at once aren't? Since when was Zelda realistic?
@Garrett Cooper I think they're saying the stick would break.
Not to mention the moding potential!
@Reborn Reaperpostle [1st of The 12, Archbishop] To be fair I didn't watch the gameplay yet when I made that comment but it shrunk the rock so maybe it doesn't weigh as much as it use to.
@Gabriel North It is a very large rock here though.
But wouldn't say it's too much more ridiculous than some chunky weapons we saw last time
I love how the devs are encouraging fans to come up with glitches and tricks 😊
This is so amazing, my mouth is ajar all the way through
I'm crying, this will be ridiculously fun
The way Japanese people speak is always so respectful. Their culture is just built on honour and quality and I love them for that
Im so excited ! This looks unreal
The new mechanics for link’s abilities make my brain go inventor mode
Ommmgggggggg! I'm loving that fusing ability!!! That looks exciting with a lot of possibilities! I just hope that Hyrule on the ground isn't pretty much exactly the same i wonder how they are going to change up the temples and the people and all that stuff... It looks like the main map itself will be relatively the same.. you can see the split mountains on the way to kakariko village shop that's still the same. Just hope they change it enough for that not to matter. Either way though it looks to be a GREAT game so far.. (edit) well, he does say it's an unfamiliar Hyrule at the end there so maybe it is changed up enough to be the same... But different.. i can't freaking wait!!!
I am so excited for this game!!!
I hope this becomes one of the top 5 best selling titles for Switch.
@XTea "Development is complete"
@XTeathey developed it over the course of 4 years, give or take. Don’t worry, it’s gonna be good
@Vijayendra Chavan I wish. But I game to relax 😀
Can we just appreciate that all these new mechanics put player choice above anything else. The possibilities are endless and what players will do with those choices will be different and that's awesome. Might get this for that alone
Super excited!!! Can’t wait! Plus I’m digging Links new outfit and his long hair 👍🏼 👌🏼
this game's gonna be SO CRAZY... i thought it would be only BOTW 2 with a few twists, but these mechanics are gonna make it a whole new beast.
it kinda feels like Skyward Sword in reverse setting-wise, but i'm not complaining.
I am beyond excited for this game
Bravo. It looked a little too easy but I'm sure with all this new stuff the enemies are gonna be just as new and improved.
I am 100% certain that fusion was inspired by them seeing the community create so many different contraptions in Breath of the Wild.
Looks sick! My daughter and I can't wait to play
Also, I freaking love Links new outfit
Now I just hope the English version won’t edit out Links diary so it’s not in first person anymore. The Japanese version of BOTW has all the descriptions as if Link is writing a journal but the English one makes it 2nd person, so it’s less personal. I really hope we can get a better insight to links personality and thoughts this time in the English version of the game 🥰😊
Okay this is so exciting, BoTW already felt like a creative sandbox where you could do and interact with everything but this fusion and ultrahand mechanics take all that to the next level!
Fun fact: The fuse mechanic has been implemented back in Twilight Princess wherein you fuse Bombs + Arrows to get bomb arrows as well as the hawkeye + Arrows for zooming capabilities.
Holy crap this looks amazing
This is how you make an open world game
They are doubling down on everything I love so much about the game. Huge win. No other modern game has such a fantastic systematic physics-based open world.
