The Buckeyes felt as if they were entitled to win the game and were relishing the thought. Michigan didn't get rattled. They were without their best RB, the guy who scored so much for them all year leading up to this game. The Buckeyes crowded the line of scrimmage and paid for it. The coverage in the secondary couldn't contend with it. Go Blue!

There is no better coach than Ryan day. Ohio St. needs to accept Michigan is back and it is no longer a rivalry they own. It is a tough change in paradigm, but unless the Ohio St. team, coaches, and fans accept it they will continue to lose.
You can never prepare as well for a game you expect to win compared to one you know you have a good chance of losing if you don’t play your best.

Well said - this also perfectly explains (part) of what happened from UM's perspective vs. Sparty during RichRod and Hoke's years. They looked past E. Lansing, got complacent and paid the price. Hope it takes the suckeyes a decade or so to figure this one out, because it's SOOOOO good :)

Lincoln Riley is not better than Ryan Day. His defenses are a joke year after year. Day has his flaws, but would never lose to Tulane. All his losses were to great teams.

5:27 I heard a bunch of ohio state fans saying they need to hire Luke Fickell lol. The guy who just that same day lost to Tulane is the answer to their problems! I love it! They don’t know wtf to do. Oh and not to mention Luke Fickell was their coach in 2011 when we beat them with a overrated/bad Michigan team with Brady Joke as our coach lol. So yes, please get Luke Fickell. I love the panic 😆😂🤣

The Ohio State team that lost to Michigan to spoil the 16 year run was in complete disarray . The interim Coach had players suspended during the season , Tressel had been fired team unity that year was lost . Ohio State had a losing record that year !

"You don't quit a job until you have another one lined up."
Michigan did this with Lloyd. I understood it. The app state thingy was just too much to bear. Michigan then went into the dark ages with richie and hoke. Michigan damn near did it again with Jim Harbaugh. I said back when they were calling for his job everywhere. "who are you going to replace him with?". before the covid year he won 10 games 3 of the 5 years he was here.
These things don't happen overnight. It takes time to get personnel and build a culture. Michigan is here now, but it wouldn't have happened if Michigan's goofy and emotional fanbase got their way.

@Patrick Cannady Yeah, "stealing" Rich Rodriguez from West Virginia & paying his $4.1-Million buyout was not a good move. He wasn't a "Michigan Man" so people weren't excited about him. It also made top QB recruit Ryan Mallett leave (no transfer portal back then, made him ineligible for 1-year, as the NCAA denied his petition) b/c of the switch to spread offense. (Have to admit Denard Robinson was really exciting to watch, so 1 positive.) But that hire seems to have been inspired by John Beilein, the basketball coach they stole from WVU (w/ $1.5-Million buyout). After they couldn't get Les Miles (seem to have dodged a bullet there, given the conduct issues that led to his firing from LSU & later Kansas). Harbaugh opted to stay at Stanford & later took the 49'ers gig in the NFL, which left them w/ Brady Hoke, who had at least been an assistant coach at U.Mich in the past. Not a very happy era. Definitely needed a better succession plan.

The greatest thing Warde Manuel and ANY future AD can do for the Michigan football program is to ensure smoother coaching transitions when it’s becoming apparent that even a very successful coach is nearing the end of his tenure. No more RichRods.

    • Patrick Cannady
Patrick Cannady 4 months ago +2

Exactly. I remember the hue and cry for Lloyd’s retirement without a good succession plan. We got Richrod 🙄
OSU got mad about Earle Bruce’s .500 record against Michigan. His players loved him and played very hard for him, and his teams were generally very sound and disciplined. But nope, he had to go. Who took his job? John Cooper.
I think there are lessons here.

    • S G
      S G 4 months ago +1

I mean, Brady Hoke did a pretty good job. He beat OSU in 2011 Lost a very close one in 2012 and lost an even closer one in 2013 when he went for two and the win, instead of taking it to OT.

For that first half I'm not so sure it was as much physicality as it was them just putting more men then you have to block and really muddied it up. Took them a bit to figure out which runs would be most beneficial. Now they were most definitely more physical than they were last year. I'm not so delusional to where I think we could just beat them down in a playoff game, plus as a Michigan fan that's already got that win, there's not much in me that wants to see them beat Georgia esp if TCU was to advance its just a kick in the nuts but I'll still be pleased with what we have done and how they've actually made me proud the Last 2 seasons for the first time in a long time they have given us the ability to have faith in them during the season. Finish strong boys!

The reason the physical play didn’t happen until later in the second half is Ohio State was putting nine men in the box in the first to stop the run… if you have any talent whatsoever and put nine men in the box you’re going to stuff the other teams run…

The reason why Day is in question is bc the team he inherited could have coached itself and he's declined each year since. The fans are right to be concerned directionally. As a Michigan fan, he's Mel Tucker 2.0

It is true that Nick Saban has lost games, but how many times has he lost to Auburn in consecutive seasons as the Alabama head coach? The answer is never. Saban’s Alabama teams are 11-5 against Auburn, but none of those losses were in consecutive seasons. Also, only 1 loss was by more than 1 score (in 2017, Auburn beat Alabama by 12 points).
I don’t think that the issue with Buckeye fans is with Ryan Day losing games, it’s with him losing by 2+ scores to Michigan in consecutive seasons (by 15 points in 2021 & by 22 in 2022).

After crying for 15 out of 16 years , Michigan fans have put out 18 years of mouth in the last two . When Ohio State got the ball at the Michigan 49 and the first play got 25 yards in penalties the game changed . Momentum , attitude , spirit , that adversity couldn't be overcome . Both penalties were correct calls .
