"There's gonna be an abusive British boy in this movie somewhere" damn Dylan really predicted colonialism
@SrtaTropicalia and then hawaii was annexed. History sure is crazy and complex. All around the world. Way to much for anyone to learn in one lifetime :P
@Slenderfoxx37 yeah, that's something done by all colonizers, even the Romans did it. Co-opting the local elites, giving them privileges and striking deals, is a key feature that allowed the colonization to happen. It's also important to see the elites negotiating with the colonizers as a sign of them trying to survive and not be totally dominated and killed off (but, of course, they do that at the cost of the lower classes being put into slavery/awful treatment of the lower classes). This is a complex system of relations, as most historical dynamics are. As such, I do think an abusive relationship is a fitting metaphor, as the elites are still being fucked over by the colonizers, only more discreetly and at a slower pace.
Meanwhile the queen of hawaii and her family was friends with the british royal family lol
OHHHHHH HAHAHAHAH this is amazing hahahah
I love how Dylan went from actively avoiding musicals to embracing this sing-along
Character development people! Character development 🏼
That’s what I call character development
she had to do it on her own.
being a dylan is in trouble fan is a combination of rewatching his past videos, forgetting he exists for a while, then being excited when he uploads again (on every Monday).
when he made that video where he erased his channel, all those videos i used to go back to re watch .. 😢 sad day
Ok but for reallllll
no no because this is too accurate
This man will never cease to amaze me in the way he randomly brings in Audible.
@Brandon Thomas 😂😂
I know what you mean, he gets me every time! I was planning on turning on subtitles so I could see when he mentions it. I be like, fvck it I'm too lazy to read! Which is why this comment is sponsored by Audible. If you're not a fan of reading, Audible has you covered...
@Coffee Goddess i never really do tho 😂 i always catch it like one sentence bevor he says it
@Yukino Fairytail unless you catch the foreshadowing- lmao
What's really cool about Moana (if you are a history nerd like me) is that it creates a myth around the the historical break in exploration by the Polynesian peoples. No one know why, but they stopped expanding to further islands for like 1,000 years.
how did I not realise it was about this until now lmao
@DOA from around 900BCE til about 100 CE
Oh that's interesting. Thanks
Buzzy when was that?
@Joey Potter YES Thank you, I could NOT remember the term
I don't know what killed me more: Dylan not seeing that Moana's grandmother was introduced as an old lady while Moana was a baby and didn't "predict" she was going to die later or the fact that after she was on her death bed he still thought that Moana was gonna save her and she would continue to live fruitful life.
@ashley davis trueeeee
Hey enjoy dylan not knowing cuz it doesn’t rlly happen often 😂
Dylan being increasingly upset with Disney not having their space bar pause correctly on Disney+ is the funniest thing to me. It’s literally so bad I do not know why Disney does not have space bar=pause consistencyI also love how he appreciated how badass Moana is at the end of the movie. Like, yeah, that scene with the water parting and Te Ka is really cool, I’m glad he acknowledged it as such.
the space bar only pauses if the last thing you did with the cursor was pause or resume the show/movie
I love how impressed Dylan was with Auli'i Cravalho's voice acting.
She was very good at voicing Moana and it was her first time!! Like wow👏👏
“The dad is just traumatized, and now he’s taking his trauma out on everybody”Wow that line is unexpectedly deeply Dylan…
Fun fact about newborn turtles and the little ritual: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there
"i'll see you next monday" dylan is genuinely one of the most consistent uploaders and i love that
we should change the definition of monday tho. From "the first day of the week" to "the day dylan uploads" it's really just semantics but i think it really fits better.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.Jesus is the Way the truth and the life. He accepts you no matter where you've been. Doomsday is on the horizon. Believe Jesus is the Son of God. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Read the Bible!Try to repent of your sins. "If anyone is ashamed of Me and My message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when He returns in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” Our Saviour Jesus Christ died so that we will live. Jesus said, "I'm the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". John 14:6.We must to believe in our God
Next monday...you just don't know which one
I'll see you 😘 tomorrow
Dylan’s “Shiny” analogy: Spot on! The song and scene have always creeped me out, much like certain scenes in Thumbelina…
It's sooo creepy. It definitely reminds me of Thumbelina!
So glad I'm not the only one who very much disliked this song. I know people who inexplicably love it and I genuinely have no idea why. The tune, the lyrics, the creepy delivery....if any part of this movie was nightmare fuel for me it was this scene and song.
The beetle ball secne?
This man will never not be obnoxious to me.. he will also never stop being entertaining at the same times
this is so accurate lmao
You can tell Dylan was genuinely just enjoying the movie most of the time
Love seeing Dylan getting the recognition he deserves #11 on trending!
it says #7 for me!!
Don’t you just hate when you’re midway through the week only to realize it’s actually Monday 😩😭
Ikr bruh 😩
Please, believe in our Lord. Jesus Christ is coming soon
Righttttt, I legit thought it was Wednesday (well now Thursday 😂)
It's the worst when your brain is days ahead of when it actually is 😭
I don't know if anyone already commented on this but there is a theory that just before Moana got to Maui she died (she fell off her boat in the scene before with the storm) and became a demigod. That's why she was able to find Maui and speak to her dead grandmother. You'll also notice that Maui told her that he was thrown into the ocean (I presume he died then) and only after that did the gods find him and he became a demigod. Moana also dived to the bottom of the ocean after she gave the heart back to it just to retrieve it which would also probably be very hard if she were still human but not if she were a demigod.
I think that's possible, although I don't think Maui died when he was thrown in the sea. In the actual legend, he is cast into the ocean by his mother, but "Tangaroa's children" (fish, waves, etc.) keep him safe until he ends up back on the beach where his grandfather finds and raises him. I don't think he died then, but was gifted his powers by Tangaroa (god of the sea).Btw, this is just the version of the legend I was told, but it might be different in other cultures!!
Woah, that’s a solid theory
You literally made my sister’s week. She loves Moana and she also loves you. She thinks you’re the best. So when we both saw you did this, we were excited. She was literally laughing so hard I thought she was gonna fall onto the ground. She’s a teacher who has been thru a lot the last couple of years and still healing from it. Seeing her relax and have fun watching this commentary was just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Dylan! See ya next Monday!
Watching Dylan slowly lose his mind over the Disney spacebar is honestly the best part of every Disney reactions.
It wasn't explicitly covered but the reason the ocean couldn't just put the heart back itself was cause te fiti was te ka, who couldn't be touched by the water. There's still the issue of the ocean picking and choosing when to actually help moana, but I think the general idea behind that is it tends to only assist her when she's already dead set on doing something anyway, cause if it was too easy then moana wouldn't connect with her wayfinding roots and start up her people's voyaging again so the ocean can be travelled upon?
Ursula, Moana’s grandma, an island, a seashell…there is definitely an undeniable aquatic theme to your taste.
What’s the seashell one from 👀
he’s into CGILFs
Are saying Dylan is into coastal grandmothers?
"i may have gone a _little_ ways past the reef""you bitch"absolutely AMAZING comedic timing dylan 10/10
*he really took the word “drag” and made the past-tense “drug”*
12:08 I love how Dylan is so passionate about his "death is a cathartic experience for all cultures, therefore it's the most effective way to connect to any audience" agenda. Quite sweet of him ☺️
"That one's Brian" made me laugh probably more that it should have.
The amount of joy and happiness Dylan got at 13:16 when he thought the pig was going to die was the most genuine reaction I've ever seen
I coughed on my apple cider lmao
Too bad he completely missed the joke about eating pork.
thats what i was gonna say🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A fact for you: Moana, in Italy, they had to change the name of the movie in Oceania, because Moana is the name of a very famous pronographic star in italy, so if you search "Moana Italia" you're going to find very different a kind of movie (sry for the grammar)
Fun Fact: The woman who said "She's doing great." When Moana fixed the Coconut problem is actually the mother of Moana's voice actor. That's basically mother telling daughter she's proud of her
The spacebar issue with Disney+ is very annoying, I agree. Instead of always pausing, it redoes the last thing you did, so you have to remember to pause and play every time you do something like go fullscreen or open captions etc. The worst is when you try to pause after skipping ahead and spoil what happens next...
Fun Fact: The woman who said "She's doing great." When Moana fixed the Coconut problem is actually the mother of Moana's voice actor. That's basically mother telling daughter she's proud of her 🥺
That's actually so wholesome ❤️😭
Aww. Wow didn't know that thanks for sharing ☺️
@bingewatchingrules it's pretty obvious that when a studio knows the relation of two members of cast and they have a chance to put in something wholesome, they will. It gets clicks and attention
Same in the Hawaiian dub
@Hafren sbz me either. THAT MAKES IT SO MUCH BETTER
Despite it being innacurate to the actual mythology and history, I love Moana. I adore that Polynesian culture has been represented in such a massive part of media. It's also generally an amazing story, and as you'd expect from Disney the animation is astounding
"Why doesn't the ocean just take out the monster" is the smartest suggestion about this movie I have ever heard🔥
9:35 "GUIDE 'EM!" had me rolling 🤣
Tamatoa (the crab) is the one of the few things I actually liked about that movie. I’ve only seen the full movie once, but have watched his scene countless times. You didn’t have to do him like that 😭
And that’s completely reasonable. Admittedly it is a little strange and out of place for the movie. It’s just amusing how almost anyone you talk to about it hardly ever has a neutral position. They either despise it, or adore it. And i’d know because I actually have a shirt with him on it and get comments all the time. Lol
I find most people like him but as much as I love Jemaine, I have never cared for the Tamatoa sequence.
Dylan if you’re reading this, remember that the Heart of Te Fiti has the power of life itself. The moment Grandma passed it to Moana, death came quickly for her. It’s implied that her lifespan wasn’t supposed to be as long as it was, and that the only reason she lasted as long as she did was because the power of the Heart was keeping her alive. If that part feels out of nowhere or sudden, it’s because Grandma was keeping the Heart safe for Moana until she was sure she understood her mission and was old enough to complete it. Because the second she gave the Heart up, she would die, and if she wasn’t absolutely sure Moana was mature enough to take it, then all hope of having someone from Motunui return it would be lost.
ive watched this film 5 times and i had no clue about this. wow
Although this would make sense, Te Fiti's heart has the power to *create* life itself, rather than the power of life iitself, and to prolong someone's life - and in reply to what someone else has said about grandma being "an old lady" when Moana was a toddler, she realistically couldn't have been older than 60 /65 at the time, going by the colour of her hair, so she would be in her late 70s to early 80s when she passed away (she may not have been, I'm guessing here), if we suppose that Moana is maybe 15/16?If you disagree with anything I've said, be respectful about it!
ouuuuu I didn't know this, makes sense
omg never realized this
😂 as a woman I agree when I heard the shiny song I was creeped out the entire time and I always fast forward it
NGL it was pretty fun watching Dylan brutally roast the parts that were actually real polynesian culture/mythology without knowing it.
@8teen 90% of the movie lol
Dylan's debauched face at 5:29!!!!!!!!!!! It's true what they say. The better looking, the more you get away with.
Half my family is Maori and we watched this movie to death. Like, to the point that I was so sick of it and refused to watch it for 2 years but goddamn I forgot how good it actually was.
"at night we name ever star"dylan: "that one's bryan"I'M DYING
Came looking for this comment because that was so funny for no reason
I saw it coming ngl 😭
The funniest joke in the video imo xD
Same! I woke up my husband.
“I think the grandma is gonna get saved” Dylan not understanding that gram gram is DEAD
You really really should read “The Inheritance Games” and there’s a sequel AND a trilogy. I read the first two books so far, and I’m starting the third one soon. 100000% recommend :DD
a couple of notes to add:1. the reason she goes out at night is because the ancient polynesians used the stars to navigate, they were expert wayfinders and they never had written maps, only the night sky2. that forehead touch is actually a nose touch, called a hongi, and you breathe in together as you do it. it's a greeting, kind of like a handshake but a bit more spiritual and respectful3. moana literally means ocean (in te reo maori which is my frame of reference but also in other polynesian languages) which sounds nice as a name but makes all of the ocean stuff feel a bit on the nose lmao
@Radhia Deedou I guess it’s bcuz it means sharing a breath of life w someone(referring to the forehead touch)
I'd say it's more intimate than a handshake, I don't see how it's more respectful though
yea I reacently watched Moana and the whoole time I was like 'if you didnt want her to go to the ocean, why did you name her Moana??
@ilbwfy • seems like all the people who liked the comment cared
Dylan: going into the movie just wanting death and thinking he’s not gonna like it Dylan : later in the movie … “oh my god this woman’s amazing ” 😂
Dylan this was one of the funniest videos you’ve uploaded in awhile. Your energy was so fun today and all your jokes hit. I was cracking up the entire time!
Fuck, I absolutely do not want a live action Tangled, but if the gods demand it, Dylan simply must play Flynn. He's so perfectly musical and unmusical.
I will literally watch anything Dylan puts out. It can be documentaries, horror movies, it can even be anime 😂
I cried watching this movie in theaters & didn't feel like crying (almost) at all while watching Dylan react to it, so good job Dylan, your humor's really on point, lol
knowing that dylan has just as much hatred in his heart for insects as me makes me unnecessarily ecstatic
I hate spiders and centipedes but like a praying mantis is fun it look at
Random question. are you able to see the other comments? It says there are other replies but there’s nothing here
I’ve literally said that same anti ecosystem bs argument🤧🤧 someone with a platform can finally speak for us
YES MY PEOPLE ✨✨✨✨
I absolutely love the rant about insects! It’s about time someone said that.
28:14 the moment Dylan realises he’s not Flynn Rider but he’s Moana of Motunui
Dylan if you’re reading this, remember that the Heart of Te Fiti has the power of life itself. The moment Grandma passed it to Moana, death came quickly for her. It’s implied that her lifespan wasn’t supposed to be as long as it was, and that the only reason she lasted as long as she did was because the power of the Heart was keeping her alive. Because the second she gave the Heart up, she would die, and if she wasn’t absolutely sure Moana was mature enough to take it, then all hope of having someone from Motonui return it would be lost.
Strange how someone would take Dylan's running joke so seriously. Wow.
It brings me joy whenever I can predict AND skip Dylan's sponsors. I feel like a mini Dylan analyzing misdirects
I agree with you, I wasn't a huge fan of this movie even though I loved the concept. It's like a combo of several other disney plots. But beautiful animation and voice acting
Audible Dylan really took me by surprise. Not because I didn't see the segue coming, I guessed it a second before he said it, but because I'm not used to seeing Dylan looking so cleanshaven and put together. i was honestly shocked by how good he looked.
Fun fact about newborn turtles and the little ritual: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there. They have to find it on their own. This scene is essentially how Moanas journey ends up going out on the ocean. She may have been pointed in the right direction, but ultimately she had to do it on her own.
@JB Onceu that makes complete sense. Thank you - I was curious :)
@Myria Lynn they have to crawl on their own. It's their early stage in life and making it to the ocean on their own is crucial. They don't just imprint on the sand etc., they imprint with the experience as well that'll help them to survive gradually in the future.
The reason you can't carry them is they need the time crawling from their nest to the ocean to build up their strength so they're able to swim. If you just carry them, they'll die cause they'll be too weak.
@Emma what if you wear gloves? ...and I would hope the people that are trying to help baby turtles would already be naturally extremely gentle with them. **I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I'm just being inquisitive.
@Lucyan December I think they wouldn't learn how to properly get to see and be more dependent on finding people who carry them?
When he was talking about village people and shaving I thought it was going to be a Segway into a sponsor ship with dollar shave club or something like that 😭😂
Dylan starting a booktube would be a gift to society
Dude… the only thing more consistent than my depression is Dylan’s uploading schedule 😂 I can’t wait for the next “After” segment 😂
The way his eyes widened when he forgot his nose ring. “Speaking of adults…I am one.” 🤣
I can't believe he skipped over the bit where the grandma died on her way out and her spirit manta ray guided her out to sea
@The Movie Critic fr
@Alici Evans I'm talking when she's first leaving and the grandma dies. When the spirit guides her out to sea. He's talking about how he wants the grandma to survive and then talks multiple times about how he hopes she survived later on. He totally missed it
@Alyssa P yeah he's still staying he hopes the grandma survives during the giant crab bit. I don't know how something intended for children managed to completely go over his head.
Wdym he didn't
Literally. How'd he miss that?
Dylan's "fascination" and libido towards old ladies gets me every time! Also remove bugs and watch the ecosystem collapse dylan ;)
Dylan: “That’s not true!”Moana: “That’s not true!”Dylan: 👁️👄👁️
Watching this movie at the theater was goosebumps. Especially the last scenes
This is my favourite video Dylan has ever done. The vibes were absolutely immaculate. I laughed out loud which is rare these days. Thank you Dylan ❤
Anonymous: you're a sick person. You always wish the characters to die. Also Dylan: I COULD BE A COCONUT.
This is GREAT!! I seriously cry every time the grandma comes back as a ghost.
I’ve never seen someone let every intrusive thought win every time 😂 you’re amazing
I cannot Express the amount if joy I feel watching someone else hate the 'After' trash movies and HATE that not only us it going to Theaters but ppl...are gonna pay money to see it there ! WHY!?
Can we petition to have Dylan do singalongs to every movie...no matter if it's a musical 😂
she's an icon, she's a legend and she's deservingly getting her own series soon!
YES EVERYONE, MOANA SERIES IS COMING TO DISNEY+ NEXT YEAR! IT'S CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION WITH A LOT OF AMAZING POLYNESIAN CREATIVES WORKING ON IT.
@tehya nicolas It's still really far away but yeah it's COMING!!
@Zakira Naqvi No, it's currently being made. They have the whole team already
@Kim Sewell I heard tiana got pushed back to 2024
@Zakira Naqvi it originally was supposed to release next year, but was pushed back until 2024.
""if you choose to turn into an insect, you should have your power revoked" is so funny knowing Maui basically does when he loses his hook
Hands down my favourite Disney movie. From the story/characters, to the songs, to the beautiful animation. Only regret is not seeing it in theatres since I was so scarred by how much I hated frozen I was reluctant to watch moana
The rhymes in the song Shiny (and some of the other songs in moana) are called "Slant Rhymes" where the words dont sound the same outside of the last syllable, and even then sometimes it's just how the syllable is said that sounds similar. Lin Manuel Miranda was the writer for all the music in Moana and this seems to be kind of his thing XD it's present in Encanto as well and he also wrote music for that movie as well :3
the hope and joy in Dylan's eyes every time a movie teases child death should be concerning, yet here we are, laughing
i posted this 17 seconds before Dylan pulled up the comment about he wishes too much for death in movies .-. oops
Moana has absolute fucking bangers- especially the voyage song 🏾
Gurrrrl Lin Manuel Miranda wrote the music, OF COURSE MOANA’s MUSIC SLAPS 😍😭
@calebthecrazyking I cry everytime she says "I know your name". The tone, pacing and everything just caused an involuntary reaction in me
I had to look up proper pronunciation because I loved it so much and I wanted to be 100% accurate when I belted it in public. Respect the art
I love all of Moana's songs and the voyager songs, not a big fan of You're Welcome or Shiny, but the rest are bangers.
I still randomly go, "I AM MOANAAAAA!!!" All the time, lol.
Moana is always amazing, and your commentary made it even better! I wasn't even mad about the 10000th Audible sponsor!
I just finished the third Inheritance Games book yesterday and it was really good! It's one of the best YA mystery series I've read in a while
“yo the giant kinda sexy, you see the lashes on her?” DYLAN PLS 😭😭
hope youre taking care of yourself dylan we appreciate youuu
I really enjoyed the first two books of the inheritance games trilogy!! I’ve got the third book on hold at the library and can’t wait to read it!!😆
Fun fact: Moana is the name of a European cosmetics brand, or something, and so they had to change the European title to Vaiana and they even redid the English audio with that name. Moana and Vaiana I think are both words in the same language, but one means water and the other means ocean, or something to that effect.
You made me rewatch the movie with my fatherHe at first didn't wanna watch it, but after the movie he was acting like it was the best movie ever
"that one's Byran" had me rolling on the floor laughing 🤣😂
Dylan, you've been hiding your musical talent from us this whole time? I'm gonna need every disney movie to be a sing-along from now on
he's so bad ahahahah
no thank u
God please no
real quick rant: so like with the rock tradition, it annoys me so much that she put a seashell there! i love the symbolism and all but you ever think how the next generations will have to like break it or just won’t be able to place anything on top of it. that has bugged me since i first watched it lol
Dylan’s “Shiny” analogy: Spot on! The song and scene have always creeped me out, much like certain scenes in Thumbelina
I’m sure Dylan’s used his 30 free audible trial by now…
For someone who always imagine de4th plots, the fact that he didn't realize the grandma di3d it's unbelievable haha
This commentary has everything from wishing death to children to GILFS 10/10
Dylan's commitment to casual appreciation for not only milfs, but gilfs, solidifies him as an icon in my mind. This video's also trending. In gaming for some reason. 10/10
I need the Moana soundtrack (Dylan’s Version) released on spotify tomorrow
How'd you hate that song?? The one with the crab was my favourite in the whole movie 😂😂
I loved this movie because my country is ploynesian and it is so cool to see myths and stories that i grew up with represented in the mainstream media. We had picture books depicting the story of maui and his adventures and seeing them represented in his song and story was so nice. It felt like a piece of home was in the movie
