As a gen z kid, this movie was terrifyingly accurate to how people I know would react in a scenario like this. I was genuinely terrified because I could draw parallels between the characters and the people I know

i think a lot of gen z (myself included) was worried this would be a cringey, preachy, mean-spirited dig at our generation. i really loved this movie and i also really enjoyed the layers and messages it lets you interpret. my partner and i went to go see it and were laughing the entire time because it was accurate and hilarious. it definitely wasn’t a “hey fellow kids” kind of script and it was refreshing to see a piece of media that’s supposed to be about gen z actually reflecting it somewhat well.

While I’m “Gen Z” (that term sociologically means nothing) and I don’t speak like this, I think I’ll take the comments here on good faith.
However, I honestly don’t feel quite comfortable with the portrayal regardless. This is a movie made by “older generations” with a moral implying that we don’t care about others enough, as well as it being a “Gen Z” specific problem.

Me too. I’ve seen many people of various ages referring to their significant other as their “partner.” Many gay people refer to their significant others as their partners, and so do a lot of straight people. It’s just a word people use.

To me, Bee really started it off. The group weren't actually going to kill Greg and then she just did it no hesitation.

    • Kevin V
      Kevin V 13 days ago +3

I see it as Bee being brought into this group who’s throwing around accusations so she was scared like a lost puppy and tried to defend Sophie yes technically she started it but that wouldn’t have happened if they weren’t jumping to conclusions with little to no proof and doing drugs etc which is the point the movie was making

    • I can’t think of a name
      I can’t think of a name 24 days ago +5

@SuperJackster01 to be fair, they all came in covered in blood clearly freaked out and instead of deescalating the situation, he pretended to attack them and made them fear for their lives. And when they said someone was murdered he didn’t do much to try and prove it wasn’t him

    • Loch121
      Loch121 Month ago +20

@SuperJackster01 just knocking somebody out, is actually not a real thing. That is a movie thing. There is no specific amount of hitting somebody in the head that guarantees them being unconscious versus them dying.

    • AnyaArcadia
      AnyaArcadia Month ago +28

I think it's to tie in to the theme of needing to fit in and go along with things even is you don't usually want to; the other characters were getting more and more agitated so she hopped to kill instead of knock out since David was already dead

    • SuperJackster01
      SuperJackster01 Month ago +50

True. She claims she only did it to protect Sophie and that she had to do it. No Bee, you didn’t. At most, you just needed to knock him out. Even then, Greg was totally calm and chill until the girls started viciously attacking him. Emma and Sophia literally just immediately accused him of killing David without even giving Greg a little bit of time to explain himself

  • Jack
    Jack 2 months ago +486

This movie is a fucking FEAST of tiny details. There are SO many little moments that you barely catch the first time through that could incriminate any of the characters at any moment. It's genuinely fantastic and I really hope more people here actually take the time to watch it for themselves. This movie deserves the recognition.

  • Kim D
    Kim D Month ago +487

I really loved this movie. It's so hard to look at millennial and Gen Z online culture without seeming like you're making fun of real concerns about -isms and social issues, but some people absolutely use activism-speak as armor or to bully people instead of communicating or getting anything real done. Everyone in this movie getting paranoid and then justifying that paranoia with a lot of self-serving nonsense disguised as who's a 'good person' is so perfect here, it's a delicate balance and they just nail it.
Also thank you for the charity merch, James, that's just awesome of you.

I think this movie is genius in a way that a lot of people kept guessing seriously about who was the killer but that sudden revelation that they just killed each other for no reason was actually shocking but totally realistic. Some people quickly jump to crazy conclusions & theories and it leads to terrible endings.

For me, Bee was the best character. I wanted to like Alice. But my god did she get on my nerves. She is so hypocritical and constantly contradicting herself. Every time that someone was accused of being the murderer, Alice would immediately agree with the accuser and say, “That’s true. She has a point”. Like Jesus woman, make up your mind on who’s side you’re on

I'll have to give this one a watch for myself, it does seem slightly on the ham fisted side, but with some good humor, and a twist that really ties a nice bow on things, I originally thought it was going to be something like Bee having the same or a similar illness to her mother and that made her do it, or it turns out to actually be some unseen person we couldn't have guessed, I mean there are some work arounds, like how did Bees (ex?) GF end up with the dudes phone or how did they not find the kurki near the body, stuff like that, but definitely worth a watch for myself even after knowing the twist.

When I watched this movie and they were playing the game near the start, I straight up thought the game-killer was Greg. They were all accusing each other and trying to figure out who did it, and Greg then spoke which revealed that he didn't understand the rules of the game, and later he said that the best defence is a good offence and talking about them fucking with him. This made me think that Greg was trying to outsmart these kids by both being the game-killer and game-killing himself, so they'd never suspect him. It's probably against the rules but that's because he doesn't know what the rules were.
Little did I know I had actually figured out the whole whodunnit without even realising it, that's crazy.
In hindsight though, given that Jordan was the actual game-killer (which also helps in the real suspicions later), I think it would have been neat if someone like Bee suggested (after Greg left the room) that maybe Greg game-killed himself, only for the others to say it's against the rules, her to say he didn't know the rules, Alice to say that they're not gonna wake him up to ask so they all agree to keep playing and assume that's not the case (and then later it's still revealed it was Jordan who was the game-killer; hell, maybe add a line earlier about Jordan mocking David about not being able to handle the sword, so in a not-really kind of way she did contribute to the original killer; I'm overthinking this). Might be a big heavy-handed at revealing the story, but could have worked as a brief bit of foreshadowing at the true plot of the whodunnit. Just an idea.

@spookylilgirl8603 I 100% agree. It wasn't until my dad got his sentence extended for drug dealing *in prison* that I had to draw the line with him. At some point he was just clearly not prioritizing his family anymore, and at that point there's not much point in being there for him anymore yk. It's a sickness and it's important to be compassionate and understanding, but we also don't need to burn ourselves to keep others warm. I hope ur doing okay out there 🫂

I wish I liked this as much as James does. I mostly enjoyed it, but I also feel like the "twist" is pretty easy to figure out by the second kill, so the ending didn't have the same "Oh they went there" punch as Ready or Not for me.

I feel bullied at how hard i tried guessing the killer (i was adamant it was Sophie having revenge on her old friends) and i was SO WRONG! That twist was frustrating, hilarious, and super tragic, cause it totally fits Pete Davidson😆

On the scene where Sophie gave Emma the pills prior to her death, you can hear her fall down the stairs but it wasn't too noticable because it happened coincidentally as a thunder struck.

Usually I don't mind spoilers. It's part of why I watch things like Dead Meat and Cinema Sins even if I haven't seen the movie. Spoilers don't usually change how I feel about a twist. In my own movie watching history, I have enjoyed movies uniformly whether or not I spoil it for myself. However, I could feel the disappointment in myself with this one movie - I should have watched it first. The twist is so out of left field that while I know I will enjoy this movie the same as any other, I really did deprive myself of a laugh out loud belly laugh. As always though, I love this series and James' commitment to detail.

@SuperJackster01 sort of the point if her character lol. A character doesn't need to be likeable to be fantastic. Rachel Sennot's performance was literally one of the best of the year and the writing was so good. That Alice switches sides so quickly is core to who she is as a person. Also, she speaks/acts/looks like people Iike A LOT of Gen Z girls.

Oh, man. It's been a while since I left the movie theatre thinking "What was that garbage I just watched?" But this did it for me. Dull plot and horrible characters. I wanted every one of them to be killed off.
I can see from the comments that I'm in the minority here, though.

@SuperJackster01 I mean, she's on her side. She thinks it could be anyone, so anytime something logical is said she agrees with it.

I personally can’t stand Pete Davidson and have never found him funny in the slightest, him being in this movie immediately turned me away from it, he genuinely makes it painful to watch. That is why I love this channel cause otherwise I never woulda seen this or known that Pete dies first so it might actually be funny throughout

For a modern day horror film that's actually a pretty clever twist at the end to find out that it was all mistake that's why I like Dale and Tucker so much because of how it played into the poor genre tropes but for this one to end up where they essentially were killed by accident or through sheer paranoia without an actual psychopathic killer is a clever twist
