Whoever thought to put Tennant and Sheen together deserves knighthood. Season 1 was a brilliant as they both are.
Well Sir Neil Gaiman does have a nice ring to it!
He has admitted that, of all the brilliant things he's done, putting those two together is the best (apparently Sheen originally wanted to be Crowley, but Gaiman already had him in mind for Aziraphale, and when he saw Tennant opposite him, he thought... well... pretty much what we're all thinking.
@Richard Tann-Watson IIRC Sheen suggested Tennant for Crowley.
It was a kind of odd situation. Sheen suggested that Gaiman wanted him for Crowley. But after consideration he thought Aziraphale would fit better for himself. And Gaiman had Tennant in his mind for Crowley but thought that Sheen wanted to play Crowley.
They met in an restaurant and none of them wanted to disappoint the other one. It must have been a funny situation.

Most likely this is in part Sir Terry co-writing (as in: inspiring as a muse) his very own, very divine comedy, based on personal experiences...
How would he be happy about this? You can't make up another season the story he wrote was already told. It had an ending. He hated sequals. He said that in plenty of interviews.
@Louis van Zyl STP and Gaiman had long conversations about book 2 and had planned out what was going to happen. Sadly they never got round to the actual writing of it.
