@Grayson Pitts thats the problem, its either coaching failed him to not excel or he just contended to be that role and never improved... nontheless if dodo takes that leap, he would have been untouchable same way with luka cus they have been here together since start...

I think worrying about the 2029 pick is being overblown. Right now the focus is on getting Luka some help. He might not be there in 2029 but if they didn't get him help there's a VERY high chance he's not there in 2029. They got a very talented player who will relieve some of the pressure off Luka and while the defense may be lacking, the offense is about to be very interesting and high powered.

    • Sad Mariners Fan
      Sad Mariners Fan Month ago

@Logan Klein I would say the main reason is because every pick matters even though teams seem to treat draft picks aa cannon fodder. Now you would think after Nikola Jokić that people would maybe take a little bit more care of draft picks. I’m not saying every late pick is going to be him obviously not but still

    • Zignya
      Zignya Month ago

@Logan Klein He's basically saying there's no guarantee that Dallas will have Kyrie or Luka in 2029, and if both stars leave then it could be a terrible terrible situation for Dallas come 2029. I just think they're worrying too much about it. Luka seemed happy in Dallas even before Kyrie, I hope Kyrie doesn't drive him away lmao. Although I think Cuban would prioritize making Luka happy over Kyrie.

    • Logan Klein
      Logan Klein Month ago +2

I agree completely. i have no idea why he was upset about a pick that’s 6 years away. if you’re valuing draft picks, the one closer to the present is 10x more valuable than one 6 years away. no one cares. idk what he’s saying

    • Zignya
      Zignya Month ago +4

I agree, 2029 is far into the future, but since every year is unpredictable in the NBA nowadays I don't feel like there's much difference in the picks. 2029 is far enough into the future that I do understand the concern of trading that pick unprotected, but getting Luka Kyrie now is big. It's what both Dallas and Luka needed. Here's to hoping we'll have enough in Dallas to keep that absolute wildcard lmao.

@Skyylife ENT clearly, just giving Luka the ball every time up the floor isn't much of a winning playstyle when he lost in 5 last year. It isn't the first time we've seen this type of player, all of the other players who demand the ball every time up the floor are all ringless for a reason. Harden, Russ, AI, Trae Young is in a similar situation rn, even Michael Jordan had a similar playstyle and didn't win anything until he was willing to let other players do work that end of the court. MJ even admitted in The Last Dance, that he only started winning when he was willing to give up the ball.

I'm putting Green at the 3 because of his 6'11" wingspan (nearly the same as Dorian). I'm then seeing if I can get Jakob Poeltl as my defensive anchor. He can guard the paint, score in the post, and playmake. Putting him beside Wood would dramatically improve their defense in the frontcourt.
Luka, Kyrie, Green, Wood, and Poeltl would be a very strong startung 5 imho.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Only thing is I think you might be overvaluing the pick a little. We don’t draft well anyway, and you’d have to hit perfectly to really regret losing the pick. Because no matter what it was the piece that ultimately got us a Hall of Famer in his prime while being a top 5 seed. Obviously with all that I still have to worry about a contract extension and off court kyrie. Assuming we get any more than this season from him and he’s not causing huge issues, then I can’t be unhappy with it after years of no real front office action to push for success (besides KP, which he’s clearly not on the same talent level as Kyrie but that one still made sense)

    • Baltej Bains
      Baltej Bains Month ago +2

if that's the case, mavs messed up. Cuz there's a high chance things do not go well this season. Not nearly enough games left this season for these guys to build chemistry. Kyrie and luka will probably need a full season to properly learn how to play together. If this experiment ends in another first or second round exit, it will be an utter disaster if kyrie simply walks for nothing, and mavs are left with a team even worse than they had before getting kyrie, not to mention the picks they gave up. And I bet luka won't be a happy camper at that point. I gotta believe mavs are now all in on kyrie and luka for the next few years...

Hi Kenny. Fun video and I'm glad I found your channel. I will just add that while Ky may have said he'd play out his contract if he stayed with BK but then he has a sudden and mysterious calf injury and there seemed to be a lot of murmuring that he was sitting out if he didn't get traded. That might have forced BK's hand a little into making this trade as soon as possible.

I really like this trade for Dallas, especially if they can resign Kyrie. We’ve seen what Luka can do with another ball handler (brunson), and Kyrie has consistently shown that he can play with other stars (Bron, Tatum, KD). If Dallas can keep him long term it’s a W imo

In my opinion (coming from someone who loosely followed this discussion) Dallas gave kinda of alot for someone who's earning 36m on an expiring contract. I'm kind of afraind they might lose the only good help Luka is gonna get. Oh and to note the defense might look subpar now.

    • Endless Nights
      Endless Nights Month ago

@Azmayeen Z Chowdhury The problem is that they have the chance to only keep kyrie for 3 months, knowing how untrustable and unpredictable Kyrie is he might not even sign the extension. Now if Kyrie does walk in to FA then they basically gave alot of pieces for a "quarter of a season rent a player" type thing. Granted they will get alot of capspace to sign another star for a max deal, but knowing how Dallas is with Superstar free agency, we can only hope kyrie signs the extension and stay for atleast 2 or 4 sesons.

    • Azmayeen Z Chowdhury
      Azmayeen Z Chowdhury Month ago

@Baltej Bains I understand where you're coming from. Kyrie honestly cannot have a proper value, if he plays, he's absolutely insane. That's the thing though, he barely does. He might also leave after this year which sucks for Luka. You CANNOT trust that dude.

    • Baltej Bains
      Baltej Bains Month ago +1

@Azmayeen Z Chowdhury DFS is a solid starter, dinwiddie is an above average starter. That first round pick is 2029 unprotected. Assuming luka aint around in 2029 (likely the case) the mavs will suck and that pick will likely be lotto. Kyrie is a superstar, but we all know why hardly any teams want him.

    • Azmayeen Z Chowdhury
      Azmayeen Z Chowdhury Month ago

I mean I think it was just Dinwiddie and DFS right (along with a First and Couple second rounders), it seems super fair to me. Mavs are too good to have a lottery First pick and they practically traded Dinwiddie for a superstar along with a starter.

This'll be the best guard duo in the west easily, but Dallas still lacks the center play that's it's always needed and some more defensive pieces. @PhoeNiX cant be thinking about 2029 when you got the best young player in the world . if Luka leaves thats a whole new set of problems to think about that have nothing to do with a random draft pick 6 years from now lol .

    • HEIR BOOTS
      HEIR BOOTS  Month ago +1

@PhoeNiX lol that's a lot of ifs . you gotta take risks in order to win and getting a player like kyrie is super rare.

    • PhoeNiX
      PhoeNiX Month ago +2

@HEIR BOOTS No, he’s freaking out because even if Kyrie resigns for 5 yrs, that contract gonna end 2027-2028 szn. He’s not gonna sign for that long, so whenever he leaves and/or they don’t win a chip, there’s a chance Luka will be mad and will demand a trade, leave in free agency, or might end up being a bad player in the 28-29 season. This all would lead to the Mavericks probably being a bad team in the 2028-2029 season, and since the pick has no protections, it can end up being a top 3 pick or even number 1, and it would end up with the Nets. There wouldn’t be such a big reaction to it if there was like top 8 protection, so that if the pick is top 8, it comes back to Dallas.
      Hope you get it know.

    • Dylan Pinatelli
      Dylan Pinatelli Month ago

The reason the mavs defense fell off a cliff is 3-4 of their best defenders have all been hurt for the last 10 games or so. Green, bullock, and kleber are all good defenders.

@YungChumpagne gotcha, I'm not as familiar with the Mavs roster because they're not my favorite team. However my favorite team would have the ideal realistic center for them. I don't think the Spurs would trade Poertl in division though. They are tanking, so maybe I guess

    • YungChumpagne

@Jay yea he was in the trade. They still have green and bullock as good wing defenders, not horrible at all

Nets will be awesome with what they got if they get serious once KD comes back.
Dinwiddie is a good scorer and player and DFS is an awesome defender as well.
Dallas needs to acquire a long 3&D player as well cause they have no defense.

Going to be entertaining how this plays out for both teams involved. Is Kyrie going to get a max extension from Dallas or is he going to walk in the off-season, is KD going to follow suit in Brooklyn and request a trade again. Going to be crazy.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. It feels desperate from Dallas’s side. Kyrie is great and this is a good opportunity for him. But Idk how he’s gonna feel being in a situation that resembles the 2016 cavs so much.

i actuallly think that the nets team might go crazy like breh they lost an all star but since he wanted to leave and forced them into that position it was actually a pretty good deal for them. They still got some solid guards like homie Cam Thomas finna get wayyy more playing time and they got another guard in Spencer breh I like it

  • maximiliandodd clivedodd

As a nets fan this news shocked me they hooping I think we can still contend, spencer is great and smith is also great we got better defence now, kd will have a little more offensive load but that’s it cam just hit 44 wow good to see nets finally making a decent move

Kenny I get what you're saying about the 2029 being crazy, but this is where I think Cuban's head is at: Dallas will do ANYTHING to make Luka a Mavericks lifer, so even if they lose Kyrie, he's thinking as long as Luka is still on the roster in 2029 (which they intend him to be), they're still gonna be good enough that the draft pick likely won't be top 10

How is it too good to be true? Their defense is significantly worse now, and they were already bad. This is likely not a championship team, although it wasn't before either. However the west is pretty weak this year so maybe they can still make the wcf and potentially even finals. It'll be interesting to see what else they do this year and offseason.
