Andrew Robertson epitomizes what that Scotland team is composed of ... The fire, the hunger, the fight before the football was just different gravy altogether n that stadium felt like it would eat up the Spanish team the way it was electric ... Congratulations to the Scottish, wat a fight, wat a game that was Wow ❗💥 💯 ..

Give credit to Scotland. Whenever big teams lose, the analysis is mainly about how did they lose, not how the underdogs win.

    • Steven Arthur
Steven Arthur 2 months ago +7

Correct. Scotland were great and very creative with little possession. Spain will do fine in the remainder of this group. Still one of the best in Europe. Just not the best at the moment.

Defo give credit to Scotland but let's keep it real Spain should never be losing to Scotland and that's not an Attack on Scotland its just true? from the size of both countries in footballing terms anyway

    • BearNecessitees Polio
BearNecessitees Polio 2 months ago +1

Both can be true at once. Spain were not at their best and often gave away possession with bad passes under no pressure. But - just as often - they were forced into mistakes by well organised and determined Scottish players. And Scotland used the ball well when they retrieved the ball. So full credit can be given to a fantastic Scotland performance whilst still acknowledging that Spain underperformed.

I haven't followed Spain closely for years. Man, looking at that squad, how far they've fallen from the likes of David Villa, Ramos, Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Puyol, Casillas, Torres, Fabregas etc.

    • B C
      B C 2 months ago +14

@R Officer to some extent yeah, but you can look at other nations like Portugal, who have an incredible pull of talent, and their golden era is probably right now, considering they didn't have players of that quality back then, Spain had an outrageous amount of talent at one time, they had a world class player in every position, but that doesn't last

    • Michael St. Hill

Like I commented on the last vid. Even though Spain won their last game, it was a sluggish win. Everyone kept saying how great Spain were and how they showed intensity. No he isn't, Spain don't lose qualifiers and they have played on far worse pitches and far worse weather than a rainy Glasgow FFS. They underestimated Scotland and they just aren't very good upfront or in defence. Scotland deserved the win

    • bouleyloon
      bouleyloon 2 months ago +1

@heres johnny Agree, I think that's now 8 LOSSES Spain have had in 148 games. So this result is monumental. Can't wait for the games in June and the return game in Spain. Be interesting to see where they play it. They were maybe going to play it in one of the smaller grounds as a token to the locals. They might have to play it at a bigger one to get their fans to help them, especially if it's down to Scotland and Spain to get first place. Any ideas where their go to ground for winning is, or is it them all 😂😂🤣🤣

    • BearNecessitees Polio
BearNecessitees Polio 2 months ago +5

I know what you are saying, but scotland actually used the ball very well, created a lot of chances, were composed and skilled in possession. We have Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United players now. So the idea that it was just pure Scottish grit isn't applicable to this Scotland team. Grit was only one component, they were professional, organised at the back, confident and skillfull.
Spain were beaten by a better team.

    • somebodyelseuk
      somebodyelseuk 2 months ago

I'm old enough to remember the last time you beat Spain. The difference is back then you had some genuine World class players. Back then, Spain, it's leagues, RM and Barca were nothing special. This result is bigger than when they did it in the 80s.

    • Peter
      Peter 2 months ago +1

@somebodyelseuk are you saying Andy Robertson and Tierney are not world class? Although Tierney hasn't featured much this season he was one of the top defenders the past couple of seasons also John McGinn is very underrated out side of Scotland,we couldn't press as we do without him leading.Once he is fit again Craig Gordon even though he's not a spring chicken is still one of the top ten goalies in Europe then there is Callum McGregor as good a midfielder as we've produced in twenty years.

    • Julian M
      Julian M 2 months ago

Tbh Scott’s problem with United has been his consistency. He can readily go full blast for Scotland and play at a high level because the games are far apart and Manager is giving him more freedom to roam. With United there are better players at his natural position ( #10 or #8) so Ten Hag prefers to use him at the back of midfield where he is not as effective.

We have 4 top quality players available to pick from overall: Pedri, Rodri, Gavi, and LaPorte. Thats it. THAT IS IT. The next best player after that is probably someone like Morata (decent, but not much more). And then the rest of the squad is flooded with a sea of mediocrity and/or great players in the twilight of their careers. Spain just simply stopped producing top tier players once the golden generation retired.

The commentary does seem a bit focused on what Spain didn't do, which seems a little unfair as it doesn't recognise how well Scotland actually played on the night (possession % aside, being only one metric). The punditry is a little bit one-dimensional.

3:42 Take a look at the Spanish team. Nearly all of these players play in club teams that'd struggle in the Europa Conference League. Just about okay players who play for average club teams.
A good Spanish side has always had majority of its players from either Barcelona or Real Madrid. Unless they go back to that, the national team of Spain will struggle.

    • IamFaby
      IamFaby 2 months ago

The problem isn’t where the players are from (good or bad clubs), but their experience, they are all new with a new coach, they can’t handle suck a drastically changes, they know is an important match and they get nervous. That is what I think, but probably is the coach fault, he probably said before the match to go easy on them, because i see on these last games that Spain played, they are very slow and taking everything easy. I miss prime Spain 🇪🇸

Spain just lack world-class players all over the pitch. outside of Pedri, Gavi, Rodri, & Laporte, most of these players are not good enough to start for top teams. and they really have very few options at striker that are any good. i don't think they'll make it far in the Euros.

No doubt we will get spanked in Spain, they won't make the same mistakes and drop 8 1st team picks a 2nd time.....but 3 pts when we expected none....1 at our EXTREME BEST....great result Scotland. I love seeing the Spanish players being so salty about the result.....have a look at Rodri's interview with the BBC
Don Hutchison is correct to tampen down exclamations of qualifying...it's only 2 games. Let's enjoy the 6 pts, but Norway and Haaland are a very dangerous prospect, Spain away will be nigh on impossible and Georgia are no mugs either. Scotland love stealing defeat from the jaws of victory and it would not be surprising to see us struggle away at Cyprus as well. Too many false dawns for us to be jumping the gun at this early stage.
    Mon the Scotland!!

Ale your argument and the rest of these laliga fans are looking suspect at the moment? passing the ball means nothing? I think the Spanish style of football is becoming unstuck? iniesta, xavi, biscuits, torres, David villa, ramos, pique, iker, alba, silva, Pedro, navas obviously this team was sensational but the quality what Spain has now compared to this team is night and day? yet Spain still try and play exactly same way of football? I do respect that honestly but there comes a time when you just don't have the quality to play in such a way? it's arrogant and egotistical to think you can inflict your will on any team just like the Spanish team of 10 years ago? it's time to wake up and smell the coffee if you support Spain it just isn't working and by this point that form of football clearly has a certain "level of player needed" but the Spanish being Spanish will continue to play that way whilst negligence will be the result? Congratulations to Scotland great result 😂

      R&S 2 months ago +1

They're making the mistake of thinking everyone can be Xavi, iniesta and busquets etc just because they played a passing style of football... anyone can play a passing style but it's more down to Xavi and iniesta's genius than the style....
Spain have to move forward and find a system that gets the best out of their current crop of players.. you might not get another Xavi iniesta busquets for 50 years...I highly doubt they will ever get a team that masters tiki taka like they did 15 years ago
