💡Colin, what about using your screw-tank vehicle design as the basis for a tunnel-boring machine? Instead of only just the 2 screws mounted on the bottom, there would also be 2 screws mounted on the roof, and another 2 screws on the sides. The very front of the machine would be a road-header, which would be gimbaled.

    • audiosreality
      audiosreality 2 years ago

Once you have the balance worked out better with Hydraulics you have so many options, you can run a pump for a water cannon or "rams" with screw drive expanders. You can add all sorts of toys you can dream up but stay with the hydraulic theme for your tank the fireworks or tater guns can just be add ons.

@Mallard It is not. I looked at it online to see and it is just a regular tie. I work in an environment a tenth as dangerous as he does and you wouldn't catch me wearing a tie like that ever. I can see myself getting choked to death all too easily. Shit, closing a car door on it before someone pulls away scares me too much..lol.

So, let me get this straight:
He took that thing to a swamp, it sank halfway down into the water, the screws got jammmed by chunks of wood, the engine literally respirated water, it turned off and sat there until a loader came to rescue it, and when it lifted, it started like nothing even happened?
    Colin is beyond good.

Very nice build and concept. I think if you just added some air bladders and an air/ vacuum pump ( inflate for water and deflate for land) to the bottom of your frame it would float. Probably would not take a lot to get it buoyant. Weapon to put on should be a cannon that shoots fire on land and water on the wet stuff.

You need to put 3 weapons, a regular tank has 2 machinguns (one in the bottpom and other in the top), plus a cannon. Will b grat if you put in the low a flame thrower, as th other gun a Air presure maching gun, and as a cannon the termite launcher. Also in the bottom of the tank put a floating divice like anfibious 8 weelers.

If those screws had just a bit larger diameter, it would have floated so much better.
Though, as you point out in a later video, the center of gravity is a bit towards the back of the machine...
And the actual solution of putting some metal around it to make it a bit more like a boat is indeed a better solution over all.

Military version "A tank is an armored fighting vehicle designed for front-line combat. Tanks have strong armor, and good battlefield maneuverability provided by tracks and a powerful engine" or "an enclosed armored military vehicle;" All in all, you decide what a "military tank" is x3 Besides that, its gotta transport liquids or be able too, so by technical standards, if he sacrificed his buoyancy and put water in those fuckin drills, you sir have a tank

I don't know what the horsepower of that engine is, but it seems to have plenty of torque. It takes a lot of torque to turn these screws, and it doesn't even strain, in mud, or on dryer ground. This is a really good and robustly built machine. For more speed, with the hydraulic drive, you would need a higher, and/or variable displacement pump and possibly, bigger drive motors. It does need something to incorporate a multi speed transmission, whether hydraulic, or manual. Hydraulics make for a simpler and more flexible design, but are a bit more difficult than mechanical drives, to vary the drive ratios significantly, for heavy pulling and high speed both. I would suggest, if you do another build, maybe about 2 feet longer screws, and 6" to 12" wider, over all, for safety and stability, especially on steep hills and in water. It wouldn't take much more diameter of the screw tanks to increase your buoyancy considerably. Fenders, over the screws, would be good for safety, in more ways than one. Might keep you a little dryer and cleaner, also. This could be marketable to government and private parties. Who knows?

I know you said a weapon, but what if you tried adding something like that grappling hook you made to help get up steep slopes which I noticed that you had some trouble with. Plus, I think a grappling device could also be used as a weapon as well, if needed. If you want a pure weapon device added, maybe a sort of blade projectile gun? Also I feel like a farmer may want to buy that from you as some sort of plow.

I am very surprised at how well the "threads" of the screw drives held up to all the abuse. I really thought the threads would fold onto the screw. Colin, you are truly a brilliant and gifted Fabricator!!

    Weapon suggestions:
    1) if the law allows, a phased particle cannon.
    2) if the law doesn't allow option 1, then maybe a compressed air beer can launcher?
