- Things in Minecraft that make NO sense! Grian lists all the things that don't make much sense in Minecraft.. Logic goes out the window sometimes in exchange for gameplay - I thought it would be funny to share my observations with you!
The examples in this video are from Java Minecraft only.
Thank you to DomRao, Spring, Oculism, Jbip for their suggestions for this video! Gaming
The fact that you can both open a shulker box and a lift yourself with its lid while standing on it. But, to open a chest with a cat on it is a herculean feat.
Its because the cat is cute
@Vikingphoenix but if there's glass or leaves above a chest it can still be opened 🤔
True
wait so mathematically the player can hold the weight of the universe in there hand yet they cay push a cat off a chest
The magma blocks one actually makes perfect sense. There was an entire mythbusters episode done on it. Having the proper foot placement is more important than the speed. One of them ran, the other one walked, one had burns converting the bottom of their feet, and the other was fine.
But that was hot coals! These are literal blocks of magma thus far hotter. Them doing 0 damage with shifting is crazy
Thanks!
@Thomas Philiph Alain Gregorio yeah but in the game they are called magma blocks
He Said "HOT COALS" (If you listen carefully) ( 9:52 )
@Erkle64 that would also be akin to walking on gravel and having it shift underneath you, in the long run it still makes sense because what matters is slow and deliberate
At least Grian dosen't need a giant mansion to hold one person... he only needs a more gargantuan mansion, a cave city, a few hobbit holes, a large space cupcake tower, a sewer, and a humble singing house.
Why build a giant mansion when you can have space cake
Fun fact: The pillager gaving a mansion is actually accurate and essential for the lore, the pillagers are outcasts of villagers as they wanted to 'Test' things so they got a big mansion.
The crouching on Magma blocks makes sense to me, I think it is supposed to be as if you are carefully stepping on the rocks rather than the magma itself
At least the pillagers finished the back of their ridiculously large mansion. 🙃
@Jermu yes
Lmaoo
Welp, off to the burn ward with ya Grian! X3
ima get some aloe for grian cuz he just got burnt
LOL
10:00 crouching means you are being more careful so you are only stepping on the cold parts
actually the score thing is the amount of xp *points* you gain throughout your life even if you spend your points on enchantments
Difference between points and levels is that. levels is gained by points
exp orbs can have more then one point so to calculate score, they use points
also nice video mate have a nice one also Some things really are unexplainable 😂😂😂
7:30 “problem”, it does make sense a little bit for Pillager’s to live in a giant mansion, but only if you think about the lore of Pillager’s.
Also what about the amount of illagers in the mansion?
Definitely needs a part 2 video, I'd watch it w/ my friends and we'd definitely get a laugh
"We need to talk about the strength of Wheat"
We know Grain, you are strong.
@Silver Light .
999. Let's make that 1k :)
Did you know that Steve is the strongest player so it actually makes sense that he weighs more than anvils
LOL
I DIDNT even NOTICE that
Actually im pretty sure you can walk on coals irl.
Either way I think crouching over them in the game is supposed to represent or imply careful foot placement.
7:57 im suprised that with the amount of time this video has been up and nobody is talking about the zombie with an enchanted shovel, that zombie must be doing some insane diggin or something
6:50 efficiency only works when you’re using the right tool, an efficiency v pickaxe won’t mine dirt very fast, nor will and efficiency v shovel mine stone fast
For 2:31, It only works with hard things like stone, But if you put in like meat or anything else. It doesn't really tend to like, really cut it. It only cuts stone and not flesh. It does actually makes sense.
Not all have a mechanism to stop from cutting you.
@Magikarp yeah it's still a really fast spinny boi
...what?
oh apparently ur right wow
Well I still think it would hurt to stand on-
“It doesn’t make sense how all of these pillagers can live in a huge mansion!”
*Grian casually living in a massive mansion alone*
And doesn't use 3/4 of it
I was thinking the same thing
@Respect Real Person this got philiosophical real quick
AND sometimes i find "underground roses" under the big mansion for no reason. Like does pillagers needs to hide their flowers???
@SRN wat how that funny?
For the lead one, I think Mojang wanted it to look like it’s attatched to a belt or something so you can do something else just like in real life, hence the “going into the side of the player”
For the magma one I always thought that you are avoiding the fire parts and going on only rocks
So for the water bucket mlg one, Steve is theoretically 6” tall, meaning the water is 3 feet, being able to catch your fall (maybe)
Lanterns on top of fences have the same height as a fence by itself. You can walk across them smoothly
You just know that Grian's disappointment over the dying chicken on a campfire not dropping a cooked chicken was inspired by the farm he built for Zedaph
On bedrock that actually works
On bedrock that’s how it works actually
We all like cooked chicken
we know
The one called quasi connectivity is very important for redstone it's a feature by now
My sister asked, "How come you fall on a torch and you don't burn?"
Also, I already knew the sawmill one. I don't understand either.
Edit:
Carpet doesn't go in water cuz it is made out of cotton (most likely). Cotton is absorbent to water. There you have it
In order to remove sharpness from your sword you need to sharpen it on the sharpening stone.
In bedrock there is a small chance that a fish can grab onto your fishing rod, so a bucket isn't the only option, but it is definitely the better one
Ancient debris. Doesnt smelt by lava, but EASILY gets smelted by a furnace.
@MMPJ Cari yeah but you cannot heat up your furnace to 1500 C° by two prieces of stick or by 4 pieces of bamboo
TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
you’re smart ok
😳
the slime block is not bouncy on the sides, grian
@doktor salami ??? What about furnace with lava as fuel
For the stuff like the player walking on hay, its been proven that the player is an absolute unit, being able to carry (insert however much the max was found to be) and still be able to jump, therefor, the beefcake that is steve would completely demolish anything he steps on, although he should also probably break any block he steps on...
I have always thought that with the magma blocks when you crouch on them you are spending more time considering where to put your feet
9:52 You know the classic Prince of Persia games, Grian? How sneaking allows you to safely walk over deadly traps? I always figured this was that kind of situation.
The spiderweb one kinda makes sense because it’s quite hard to break a spiderweb and the magma one kinda makes sense because when you sneak you tippy-toe if you’re normal so you step on them normal on the rocks that aren’t as hot and manageable
The fact that bees are bigger than parrots or chickens
@Robloxplayer Wait what. Do u even play Minecraft. Wait..
Bees aren’t that big in real life a chicken could eat a beef but the chicken would probably die I don’t know it could survive than a parent is just big if that’s how you pronounce it
bees actually have to be that big. Any smaller and the devs found them creepy, being bigger just allowed them to be cuter proposition wise
They deserve it because they're absolutely beautiful
It's cuter that way imo
A cauldron can save your fall, you’ll need to be super precise with the landing!
6:00 it also adds cherries (or sweetberries) to the cake even though you dont put them in the crafting table and also at 9:56 it makes sense because when you crouch you step on the coals slowy and dont step in the lava
Who adds cherries to a cake...
I remember back when you needed up to 3 blocks of water to break your fall depending on the height. I was so confused when that changed and I first saw people doing mlg water buckets from crazy heights lol
A score becomes bigger depending on how long you play and what achievements you get
I think of Minecraft as the border between realism and abstract.
@Drive A Sandwich yep i agree, and they are both mixed between with a random ratio of realism and abstract
@stekaman Cartoon Logic is usually just alternate physics.
Game Logic is usually just game mechanics.
Anime, Cartoon and Game Logics
The entire game makes no sense I love it so much.
For the enchanting i think that your character carves the enchanting table language into the blade or object to give it the enchant and the grindstone gets rid of the cravings.
That second one about the Redstone is something I experienced. It bugs out my Redstone projects.
I’ve always wished that a furnace had a interface like a crafting table where u had to put cake recipe and stuff like that in a furnace to make
Actually, I believe that the reason they used the grindstone to disenchant thing is their method of enchanting. I assume they’re based off the system where you inscribe symbols into the blade or tool and it’s imbued with magical properties. A way to take thee symbols off would be to grind the stone into nothing, thus nullifying the enchantments.
Why does it make it glow though? Odd choice.
Smart
Ah this makes sense
@A Hamlin Notch is no longer part of the Mojang team although the game and the headquarters of Mojang is in Sweden so you're not wrong
@Rowan. eisjid
For the saw bit, I think they didn't want it to deal damage around villagers, since its a profession and villagers are not the brightest bulbs. I've never seen a wither rose or a campfire in a village.
ive always wondered were the toilets are, do the villager's use the village composter? or just find a spot in the woods?
in midevil times it was a bucket and dump it out the window onto the street bellow.
You forgot the fact that if you quickly place a later when you break a block under sand the lantern will hang on the sand and none fall
I love how most of the things makes sense in Bedrock edition
I was confused why the stonecutter didnt deal damage for a while. Then I realised that all of the villagers would die if there was something in the village that did damage on its own
@Mustafa gaming my guy, villagers pathfind to the stonecutters, so they would be putting themselves in danger a lot more than campfires. Villagers do not pathfind to campfires and do not need to pathfind to campfires so that's a non-issue
Sir i wanted to tell you about campfires?
@87markus87 even if you change the pathfinding of the masons, you cannot prevent them from getting bumped into the stonecutter
Some simple coding fixes that..
@ctom4242 Even so, villagers are stupid, and probably would.
Plus, the fact that you can have them on yop of workstations, and they are still able to work is used by some people who keep villagers.
Like Iskall with Benny.
You got to remember cactuses are secretly one-way chests
8:50 spiderwebs are actually extremely durable, in fact if you had a giant spiderweb that was about as thick as a dry erase marker you could catch an entire plane with it
The score is just the total amount of xp you've gained since you last died, include xp you've spent on enchantments
I'm surprised you didn't bring up soul Sand in combination with the two high doorway
A small bottle of honey: restores 3 hunger bars
A big chug of milk: restores zero hunger bars
@Memely Shorts you got it man
@Memely Shorts okay
Grian: If I missed anything, tell me in the comments.
Me: MineCraft in general :P
@Memely Shorts your right, it does
@Memely Shorts it sucks
I thought that enchantments would be like a incredibly thin coating type thing
naturally generated sand floats sometimes but when u place some, the whole thing falls down
Alright the piligers usually spawn in bulk (right?) So they need more space, and can afford it from piliging the villages around them (right?)
Some irl stone cutters are made to cut stone, though even though it cuts stone it can't cut throw flesh due to it being wide
7:45 Grain: “What do they need all this size for!?”
Also Grain: builds two enormous mansions, builds a skyscraper while purchasing an equally as large skyscraper.
grain
The pillagers are the elon musk of minecraft :)
The answer is to flex about diamonds.
@dragon Garra yeah I know but Grian made a solution to it LOL
@mr sussy i mean it's being going on for longer then the merch
When gravel is placed above a lantern it’s fine when there affected by gravity and a lantern needs a block above it.
The wireless redstone thing was a glich in Java, but because it's based on real life, it is a Java only feature
"Place a fence gate under the carpet and you can't go in!"
I smell a new prank idea.
The fact that when you hit a rock with a sword a million times, it takes no damage, but if you hit a zombie, the sword takes damage.
I think the theory for magma is that you're being careful and moving slowly, so instead of running across and accidentally stepping on the molten stuff, you're carefully moving across and making sure to only step on the cooler stones instead. Similar to how crouching stops you from falling
@Pennyflyer I saw that episode
No actually it's the proper way to walk across hot coals. Mythbusters tested it and talked with people who are trained to walk on hot coals. When you run or walk too quickly you are putting more weight onto the coals and burning yourself faster with the hotter part of the coals if you break them open. Walking slowly and carefully is the proper way to do it
I think that items like iron and wood have hidden magical properties so crafting table use this magic to turn raw materials to a final product and cauldron use iron magic to overwrite properties of fluids
The reason you disenchant stuff with a grinder actually makes sense. When you're enchanting you're obviously not gonna enchant the entire existence of that thing, that'd take up too much energy! (Which also makes sense because the more enchants you add to an item the more xp it takes to enchant it, hinting at a physical amount of energy you need to have to do more and more enchanting). So instead you just enchant the outer layer of that thing, it still works the same but it also means if you grind off the outermost layer of your item, the enchantment is gone.
4:11 the score is how many xp points you've ever collected since you last died. it doesn't go down even if you enchant items
This is something you missed out on.
If you look at an ender men, they try to kill you, but, if a mob looks at it, the ender men is happy with it.
Netherite doesn't gets destroyed in lava, BUT the same netherite kept in shulker box gets destroyed by lava/fire
i think when you burn a shulker box the box is burning first and all of the items get out than they burn
@William Wontiam maybe, possibly, there are no "real" things in the End, and everything brought out from there is a hologram of a real thing still in the end....
no proof or reason though
@William Wontiam that is an ender chest
Honestly, I was thinking it would work like a bag of holding in dnd. It doesn’t actually have the item inside, it’s just the easy way to access it in an alternate location.
It was patched a few months after 1.16
You can smelt ancient debris in furnace with lava, but doesn't get burnt when you throw it to lava.
But tbh, the fact that there's quite a lot of defying things in Minecraft make the game more unique and you can use some of the exploit for creative stuff.
For the red stone piston one it only works in Java
Well, fences were kinda designed that way so entities couldn't jump over them to destroy crops.
the mansions are huge because instead of pillagers spreading out, they bunch up in big settlements, proven by how rare the mansion is
“We need to talk about the relative strength of wheat”
Grain, 2021
@Joeri Dumortier LOL
Just saying, the game is telling you to look after yourself, bc you weigh more than a stack of anvils.
i see 69 likes, cant like. someone else will ruin
g r a i n
Who’s this Grain character?! 🤣
Watching Minecraft videos always makes me wanna play Minecraft lol
About the mansions vs village houses, I think it's telling about the npcs' personalities! Humble villagers vs greedy pillagers~
The fact when you stand on a chest and open it the top goes through half your body and you can place SAND and not have it fall and place any block perfectly
for some reason you can glide with a pair of very heavy metal wings you can also surf on cows cause why not but the fun does not stop there its the same for pigs and even other mobs to like sheep you cant place water in the nether at least that's what you might think but if you just use a cauldron it works what did you think i was done nope i got more to say if you type in /give air it does render as a command but just why i don't get it why i mean all you get is air which means you don't get anything for some reason cactus blocks are so powerful they can pop any item you throw at them yes even bedrock if you drop some bedrock into lava it burns and to top it off if you just place it under lava its fine no wait don't leave I'm not done yet now as I'm sure you all know when you kill a ender man it drops a ender pearl but should it not drop a ender eye if its not a eye do ender man even see i can tell you so many more as well like maybe something like this you can use a wooden door to block the lava from touching you ok fine I'm done well i have plenty and i mean plenty more but i cant do this all day or in my case all night
Me: *walks through berry bush* Ow, that hurts.
Also me: *walks through rose bush* Ahh, the flowers smell nice.
@НИЧЕГО из пластилина LE SSS GOOOO
@dababy car dababy car
amogus 😩
@killerbee13 GMOs in Minecraft confirmed
the reason that you dont take dmg by crouching on magma block (maybe) is the fact that if your crouching your being careful about it and only some parts that you would touch if you arent careful will be hot enough to deal dmg
9:52 i’m pretty sure it’s like your carefully stepping on the rocks when you’re crouching
The fact that if you put a colored powder in water it turns solid (concrete)
But if you throw that same powder in the same water from your inventory it does nothing
To be fair, I'm guessing the lead is low to make it look like the rope is connected to the bottom strand of the lead item. It just doesn't make much sense when holding anything else, haha
the fact that you can eat an entire cake faster than you can eat an apple is also a bit strange...
@Thod_ so you’re the one who liked my comments and gave me 2 notifications...
@Fudgebabyg but the bread is made of iron wheat
@Fudgebabyg I’m not mad, I was doing the same as you, adding to the comments
@Fudgebabyg yeah it doesn't really make any sense. But hey, that's just Minecraft!
@Joeri Dumortier I was just adding onto this comment, calm down, I know this is probably one of the less "nonsense" things but the comment was referring it so I added to the conversation. No need to get mad
I think you don’t rake damage on magma when crouching because while crouching the player is being careful not to step on the red hot parts of the magma
8:30 The reason why it doesn't make sense is because the drip leaf only detects entities to fall and if blocks were to fall it would break the dripleaf
With leads it's actually attached by a small pixel on your back
The reason the pillagers need lots of space because it needs a lot of room for all the people more then a village rooms for storage
You can smelt ancient debris but it doesn’t get burnt in lava. Sense has been achieved
I like to believe that the cold melts it
@Coco Noisette 🤦🏼♀️ Minecraft needs to learn some logic.
You can smelt ancient debris _with lava_ but it doesn't get burnt in lava
@Bu Tao There must be a glitch in your game then. I'm a Bedrock player, and I can confirm that Ancient Debri doesn't burn in lava. Nothing fire fire related destroys it.
The hotest thing in minecraft is a furnace
A feature they should add is when you mine an ore you get a block of stone and the ore
Actually in real life stonecutter blades are extremely bad at cutting flesh since they’re usually just a flat edge covered in diamonds to grind through stone. It’s like a super thin band of sandpaper spinning in a circle
When making a cake, you use the whole bucket of milk, iron and all, instead of just using the milk in the bucket.
For the boat thing: its because the boat will absorb the force, but falling on a boat will cause the damage to come from the boat.
Honestly I would love them to add the sideways functionality of slime blocks - imagine the elytra shenanigans if they could bounce you backwards
@Tacobell1384 how come u guys can make tnt cannons and have fun but I can't? The dispenser sticks to the slime block and it ruins everything, even the tnt sticks to it. The whole thing gets destroyed T_T
@Jayvishnu Venkatesh slime blocks stick on all sides in java as well but there are blocks that they don't stick to available as well.
@Tacobell1384 oh that might be ok, but wat i meant is, bedrock has all sides of slime block functioning well(idk about elytra tho) which means Redstone machines r so hard to build the slime blocks pick up any block attached to any side of it, and its so frustrating when u don't want it like that, but in Java its correct. Even honey blocks work the same way in bedrock.
@Jayvishnu Venkatesh what would be erased by making the player bounce off the sides of slime blocks when flying with elytra? I mean the sides are already bouncy when you push the slime block with a piston.
Noooooo if they did that many possibilities u have in Java now with slime blocks will be erased. I'm crying now cuz slime blocks r literally useless in bedrock.....
I've got a Minecraft logic that I can't figure out. Eggs. For a long time, 🥚 are used to make 🎂 and 🥧 But neither Notch nor Jeb have thought about having 🥚 as a food source. It would be nice if you could cook 🍳 eggs in the furnace, smoker, or campfire and get scrambled or omelets. Eggs could be awesome saturation for your hunger bar, since eggs are great food in real life.
The redstone block has a limit of how far it powers something
0:45 The answer is obvious. The inside is different material even though you only use iron. Obviously
the saw blade is proven to make sense using the real life version
"The relative strength of wheat" is a phrase I never thought I'd hear but I now cannot live without. XD
Stack of likes
The magma block thing makes sense especially in the hot coals idea. There are people in real life who ACTUALLY walk through hot coals and can do it slowly, in fact doing it slowly is the best way to not get burnt, if you try going through it fast you dig your heels in or start throwing debris everywhere.
Same on the stonecutter. I was very surprised when it didn't hurt me lol
The score is basically the XP level (I think)
In Minecraft 1.21, they should make it so that stone cutters deal damage to the player standing on it.☺
