The fact LeBron is still playing at this high a level at almost age 37 is insane. The guys been in the league for almost 20 years and he is still one of the all time greats. I’m so glad I’ve gotten to witness his career as long as I have. We may never see another player like him ever.

@Always on hots Rodman was late 30s when he came to the Bulls man. Still good but not a prime Rodman. Plus Jordan was already into his 30s when he came back. And his initial 3peat was just him and Pippen.

    Since Jimmy made this video, these are Lebron's splits/efficiency for the last 7 games;
    36ppg
    11rpg
    6apg
    58 fg%
    42 3pt%
    Not to mention, on New Years Eve, Bron was 43/14/4 w/ 2stl/2blk on 61% fg & 50% 3pt (Five 3's) in 29min.
    The man is unreal.

I was just young enough with MJ that i don't remember watching him play. I am glad I got to watch a great like Lebron for so long. I personally am a hater because he is just too damn good. But even through my hate I can acknowledge that one day I will be wishing to have seen more of him play. I can't wait to see who will be the next greatest.

Dwyane said himself that he's watched Bron turn and ankle that would have him out 2 weeks and just tighten his shoe up. Out of all his physicals Lebron's strength is the most overlooked. He is built perfectly to take the knocks of the sport. He's huge and got the quick twitches, but his ligaments, tendons and overall frame just keep him ģoing. Not fair in anyway, but it doesn't say anywhere it has to be.

      @LeUltraInstinct Best basketball iq? Probably.
Best finisher? No. That was Shaq when he was at his peak.
Most consistent scorer? Defimitely. Most efficient? Nope. That's Steph.
Best Offensive player? Nope. Not even close. MJ and Kareem alongside maybe Wilt are the best ever.
Arguably the best passer? Ehhh, maybe but he wasn't really the best at any single pass.
Most clutch? Nope. That's again MJ.

      P S Year ago

@marcus you don't understand how steroids work then. Roids will make you a lot stronger for a short amount of time however the side effects is you lose longetivity your body will go bad a lot faster. This video is showing how lebron has been consistent with his absolutely insane numbers on that chart jimmy showed there was nowhere a place you saw a insane jump which might indicate roids. However Lebron does do a lot of things to keep his body healthy that costs a very large amount of money like if you search up how much lebron spends on his body.

Glad to see this comment. I’m not a huge Lebron fan either but you gotta give it up for him for so many reasons. Regardless how how he did it, him and his teams have been at the top of the league nearly every year and he’s gone to the finals almost all those times as well. I wish he would have just stayed with the heat and been there franchise player his whole career but he understandably wanted to bring a chip to his home town and he did. And then he brought one to LA right after Kobe left us. It’s been amazing watching him from a kid to a vet and still playing at the highest level 20 years later. Gona be sad when he leaves the league but also very excited to see who with step up and dominates the league and it’s already starting and already exciting to see all these new kids exploding with talent!

Very nice piece. I would have liked the scoring illustration on rebounds and assists too. He's not the best at any one thing, but he is top 5 at everything, which is more important. The scientific scoring strategy would be to multiply all the relevant factors into one score. Highest means better. If you do that, LeBron is the greatest.

Watched this video a month ago and came back, this video made me realize Lebron is the greatest player of all time, weather it's a hot take or not idc. Maybe my way of looking at is different but if you are the greatest overall player of all time and have helped your teams win more games constantly, you're the greatest. Taking teams with no star help to the ecf and finals throughout your career in my eyes makes you the greatest player ever. I look at dudes career stats and I see nothing but the GOAT. To me MJ is the best scorer but LBJ is the best player of all time.

  • kiran krishnamurthi

Really appreciated this video, amazing and quality content. I think that because the NBA has seen such a talent explosion recently, I've started to appreciate LeBron's greatness less. Since there are so many contributors and highlight makers on different teams, I feel like the attention of the NBA has shifted away from LeBron. It's not like the league ignores he's still there, but there's less chatter about his presence in the game compared to a few years ago. This video really helps reaffirm his status as maybe the GOAT and it's phenomenally made. Side note, but what software do you use to make your data visualizations?

Beautiful video. I wish lebron had team success as he’s had personal success so people could really appreciate his greatness. It’s always what he hasn’t achieved rather than what he has. And the few things he doesn’t have (like 5-6 plus rings) is because of the team. He’s had to go against better teams in the finals than his predecessors. If not, he would have like 6 rings already. Making him the undisputable GOAT.

lebron is definitely a beast and in a category of his own w/ how he plays. definitely the best of this generation of ball players. the way he can still play @ his age is literally incredible. the last person i can remember really performing close to their prime at like 37-38 was i think karl malone. but lebron is on another level he can still jump out of the arena at 37 and numbers like he is 25 which is insane. it's just weird to see a spike in his performance at 37. like averaging 29 a game or over a block per game either of which hasn't been done by him in over a decade...

There is one thing that needs to be taken into consideration.. Kobe and Lebron entered the NBA when they were 18 years old.. so by their 19th season they were 37 years while most of the other players on the list were 40 or almost 40.. Lebron though is truly one of a kind in terms of his consistency and how he takes care of his body compared to all these other top NBA athletes

Not steroids but definitely PED use. With that being said, he’s not the only one in the league today or in the past decade to do so, but the only one doing what he does for as long as he’s been doing it so it’s not all PED’s. Gotta give LeBron his credit, his longevity and consistency has been incredible.

In various docs, not least TLD, apart from the shock of losing his dad, it’s been said it was the sheer burn out of the constant glare of the spot light away from the court that made him decide to retire in 93.
And TLD also told us all about the 98 retirement.
Would an alpha like MJ want to have rebuilt in 98/99, at age 35?
      Or become a free-agent role-player on a contender team?
Maybe, you can call it that era’s version of load-management.

Great video Jimmy. Your content really is top notch. I think there’s something to be said about Lebron’s use of whole body cryotherapy for recovery. It seems to be adding to his longevity more than the old school ice baths. WBC is definitely next level recovery vs. an ice bath, and I don’t think players in the past were doing those as often as LJ does WBC.
Kareem and Dirk did yoga for their longevity (21 seasons each). I don’t think LJ does, but it couldn’t hurt. His body seems on the stiffer side. It’s a great practice for preventing injury, among other things, and he seems to be dealing with injury more often in recent seasons.
I would argue at the rate LJ is going he’s going to need to do something more if he’s going to play til age 44, like you claimed. LJ plays really hard and I doubt he can keep that up without something more to add to his recovery regimen. Personally, I think yoga would be a great key to give him a shot at playing til 44, especially for a player that plays like he does. Injuries can add up quicker than you think in later years.

Man's is right, steroids at the point are sophisticated to not show up in testing and hgh is incredible for longevity. Could just be genetics, but I'd suspect him gaining so much muscle when he dipped to Miami back in the day is when he started hitting the sauce to stay on top longer.

    • yamato mushashi
      yamato mushashi Year ago +2

@Chazz Branigaan reading the effects of using steroids is too far different from the story of an actual user. Heck, there are things that we read on Google were not actually true or having too much exaggeration, and sometimes having inconsistent or lacking data. Don't rely too much on Google, mac. Reading books and do research or ask people who have more knowledge and experience on the topic that you want to know is more effective. You can gain more info from them than just reading Google, you know.
.....or you're just using the steroid issue just to bash someone. Now that's a different story.

I agree with most of what your saying and I could see LeBron finishing his career with the "Iron Man" award of Basketball but with all do respect , I think Kareem still holds the title. In a way I think you did a good job of giving Kareem his props and it's fair to say that because you didn't see him play that it is harder to judge his career.
That said The reason I still have Kareem over LeBron in this topic , Kareem entered The league about 4 years after LeBron and even though it was because he was playing in college , he is still regarded as one of the best college players ever. It may be true that LeBron could have played in The NBA at 16 that is a much bigger "what if" then Kareem being able to if given the chance to have started playing in The NBA at 18 based off his college stat lines and as you said in the video his crazy good start in The NBA.
But again LeBron is not done and while he is starting to show signs that he is in fact Human the numbers do not lie and at this point it is hard to say when he is going to stop playing at an all-star level so my opinion may change after we see when he really is done.
I forgot , One last thing we all should consider about Kareem is that he did play in a different era when players did not have access to technology hat modern NBA players have and just overall prolly didn't know how to take care of there bodies as well. This last part seems almost petty but something to consider , also to be fair to LeBron in regard's to this point he will be almost a blueprint on what players should do to be able to play as long as they want to and does have a Natural body type that is up there with maybe anyone in history of mankind ( lol , obv that last part is something that cannot be proved but it's hard not to look at him and not think that).
In short , I have Kareem still having the greatest longevity at a high level but again LeBron is not done playing and in 2022 is still playing like an all-star.
