We made the switch to PJ on Jokic because it allowed Joel to play defense in the paint and stop all the cuts to the basket. Notice in the first half because Jokic plays at the top of the key so much that forced Embiid out of the paint leaving the lane wide open for cutters. Switching PJ onto Jokic and Embiid on to Aaron Gordon, the weakest three point shooter on Denver allowed Embiid to play the paint which if you noticed forced Jokic somewhat out of his comfort zone.

Can we talk about how ESPN showed a graphic at halftime that was completely false? It showed Embiid being 3-11 when guarded by Jokic when we all just seen that was wrong

Embiid’s career average points per game is already around 6th on the all-time list. Shoots 89% from the line, 67% from the field, and some nights he’s close to 50% in shooting 3’s. He’s dominant from BOTH sides of the floor. A monster!!!
He needs championships and he needs to stay healthy in order to get that all-time greatest respect.

7:08 Jokic operates a lot in that mid range area, Tucker on Jokic might look like a mismatch but dude's a hustler and built like a brick wall. That allowed Embiid to roam the paint and protect the rim better because the Sixers got killed on cuts

The media and the league keep disrespecting embiid. Smh we need an alternative this why channel like these are good because people speak facts how it happened and not what how the media wants people to believe things happens since they control the general narrative. If denver had won this game you'd hear a different narrative from espn for weeks about how philly got smacked this and that. How come embiid isn't leading the mvp race when he should be after this game he also isn't a starter in the all star game smh. Ever since ai philly can't never be credited when they're doing great.

They put tucker on Jokic to stop him from dropping dimes if embid has to guard him he can’t protect the rim Gordon always cuts base line.

They switched cuz Gordon was getting to the rim at will vs Tucker. Gordon cant do that vs Embiid. Also, Jokic is very much a perimeter player, but slow and so Tucker on him made more sense.

Jokic is one of the highest rated defensive players in the league. Embiid ran from the matchup because he couldn't guard Jokic: that is reality. Also, the pick and roll with Harden isn't indicative of some type of defensive deficiency on Jokic's part. If a quality PG attacks on the pick and roll/pop, the center has to commit, which leads to advantage basketball for the big. One player guarded the opposing teams best player all night and it wasn't Embiid.

you say you like two way player, but it was not embiid that defended jokic in the second half. it was tuckers defense that disrupted jokic’s offense. it just shows that philadelphia has better defense than denver. and as you say it’s team defense. by the way it’s a team game. it’s the team that has a two way game(offense defense) that gets the win.

embiid is still a much better defender. teams never see embiid as the point of attack defensively. whereas for jokic, that’s every teams game plan. make him guard pick and rolls, handoffs, isos and what not

@Doug Minnix Jokic would never score in a 1v1 against Embiid. He doesn't have the foot speed or athleticism to drive past Embiid. Embiid would just position himself directly in Jokic face and dare him to shoot jumpers with hands in his face. The skill disparity between these 2 is insane. The fact that Jokic has 2 MVPs and Embiid 0 is an indictment on the entire voting process.

he has good hands, but that alone can’t make you a great defender. gotta be able to guard 1v1, off ball, 2-3 man actions consistently and effectively. he’s not gonna hit the ball out his hands everytime
@pattDOR No one who watches basketball could make a good case for Jokic being a "great defender." I do, however, think that people sell his defense short sometimes because he is not your traditional big man/rim protector/shot eraser type of player. He still comes up with a fair amount of blocks and steals because, as you point out, he does have good hands, he's smart, and has great instincts (even those kick balls that he is so good at on pocket passes make a difference by having the offense have to reset). Also, he's not a mess 1v1 - but this is Joel Embiid we're talking about. Jokic can hold his own against Nurkic, Valanciunas, Zubac...even someone like Adebayo I think Jokic does okay against 1v1. Nobody in the league can guard Embiid 1v1, especially when his shot is falling like it was in the second half. His skill set is really that of a wing player in a center's body. Jokic can't guard wing players 1v1. The best approach vs. Embiid IMO is something like Toronto does - take all those 6'8 players and have them swarm and fly around and try and muddy things up for Embiid.
Also, just want to make a point. No one can guard Jokic 1v1 either. Tucker had a great game, good for him - just like Draymond had a great game in the playoffs last year game one - put Tucker on him again, let's see what happens. Embiid is a great player. Jokic is a great player. It's one game.

They have played 7 times. Embiid is 5-2 in those games. More pts, boards, steals and blocks in those games. Also much more of a two way player. I also play and watch tennis. Maybe you should take up a hobby? Ps I’m not a jokic hater, I love his game. Just spitting facts.

My guy, jokic is a better player than embiid your reasoning for 50/50 is bad…. One reason being jokic is one of the best offensive players OF ALL TIME which makes up for his defense. Averaging a triple double, 1st in the west, leads in every damn advanced stat, shits on embiid, is unguardable, 2nd in assists in the nba!!!!!!!!!!!

Denver choke the 4th quarter. Nuggets were up 12 points at the beginning of the 4th. It will never happen again. The whole Nuggets team played terrible 4th quarter.
