Israel, Russia, China, Iran: The World in Conflict | Walter Russell Mead | EP 326

  • Published on May 30, 2023 veröffentlicht
  • Dr Jordan B Peterson and Walter Russell Mead cross continents in a broad discussion over world affairs. They go in-depth on the state of China’s totalitarian regime, Vladimir Putin's plans for the war with Ukraine, the growing unrest under Iran’s iron fist, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, and how a push for American optimism is necessary to best face these emboldened challengers on the world stage.
Walter Russell Mead is a writer, professor, and academic, focusing his efforts on international policy and affairs. He is the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and Humanities at Bard College and taught American foreign policy at Yale University. Mead has worked as a columnist for publications such as The Wall Street Journal and was editor at large for The American Interest. His books include “Mortal Splendor,” “Special Providence,” “Power, Terror, Peace and War,” “God and Gold,” and most recently “The Arc of a Covenant.”

Besides the fact just wanted to thank you for saving my mentality as a young man. I’m an ex felon at 22 who now goes to church and has a family with communication beyond words. Our newborns life is better off for it. Not only did you save me as a young man but my daughters future. I should be dead and repeating an unstable gang like mentality…but Jordan Peterson teaches about overcoming trauma on Clip-Share lol. Love you and thank you wise guy.

You inspired me to work harder on my goals. 3 years ago i was an jobless loser. Now i'm a mechatronics-engineer soon. I'm also going to build an house at the end of the year and getting married in September. I'm so thankful to you. I never thought i would be able to study a pretty complex field, work 3 days a week beside that, working out in the gym 3 to 4 times a week and keeping an healthy relationship. You are one of my heroes.

I was reading the great turnaround stories here, shared by young men who'd been encouraged by Jordan Peterson and are grateful.
I just want to point out to them that their own stories are very inspiring and their example for successful living today is passing on Jordan's words to other young men. You're all a light ✨️ now in your family and community. So much respect 🙏 to you all.

Hello, thank you for all your podcasts. I like to say something about Iran, Iran has been made from different parts, Arab, kourd, baluch and etc. Although, all of them are United under one name, and they are proud of it. There is a book called "Shahnameh." This book is old and has many great stories. This book saved Persian language, and it is a reason that when Arab attacked Iran around 6B.C. and governed Iran for 200 years, we still talk Persian. This book isn't a religious book, but people still practice it.

    • Rose-Marie Mukarutabana

Good point. Iran is an ancient and experienced country. It will survive US bullying and strive. Unfortunately, Prof Peterson is ill informed and his guest is just spewing prejudices, not a balanced analysis. The US is innocent, Iran is evil - and "they need an enemy", Peterson chips in, rather unhelpfully... He really needs to read up on the topic.

@Rose-Marie Mukarutabana Couldn’t have said it any better. Disappointed to see Mr Peterson become an agent for Angloo-Zzionist militarism.

Jordan, you are not alone in your battle against the Ontario College of Psychologists. Your supporters are with you. You also have truth and justice on your side. These are powerful allies. While your opponents are tyrants, remain calm and humble. List and subpoena your opponents as adverse witnesses. As you cross examine your opponents, ask your questions. They are good questions that need to be asked. It’s time to put this woke agenda on trial.

@Ivan K Marawi siege happened a long time ago. Where many civilian people were being hostage and some got killed. If my memory serves it correctly. There were rebels which associated themselves as ISIS and they siege a specific place as it was being reported on TV news. It takes a long period of time before it was settled by army and other some powerful groups of the country. According to the news (not quite sure if it was true though) The mastermind was a member of ISIS from a different country. I think after the war they settled a peace to talk to resolve the issue. Of course casualties can't be avoided on this matter. Many civilians lost their houses, livelihood, a place to stay and loved ones. This was one of the most terible event that happened and was not being resolved in a short period of time by the authorities. I dunno what the administration doing on those times.

I started with baby steps lasting 5 min and I built on that and now I can do something for an hour. Ty.

Hello Dr. Peterson I would love it if you could do a review of the book The Fourth Turning by William Strauss and Neil Howe. It's on the seasonal and cyclical trend of Anglo-American generations dating back to the sixteenth century(generation theory). I believe it would be a very relevant breakdown as it deals with today's current events, thank you.

Excellent excellent interview I really love the explanations which differ in a small to other experts I’m so glad to hear professor Jordan has changed his tune in regards to Putin! Most people anyway near similar to Putin! If they were I would totally loose hope for humanity!!!

    • Rose-Marie Mukarutabana
      Rose-Marie Mukarutabana 3 months ago

You'd wrong, though. Putin is a good leader and a fine human being, and if you are a little patient, you'll see that he'll do a lot of good for humanity. Peterson is just not well informed about Russia and Putin. He can't get out of the heavy US anti-Putin propaganda that envelopes most of the West. Let's hope he finds his way out of this dark cloud.

The clearest explanation on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was one by Joan Peters, former Advisor of Middle East Affairs to the White House, titled: “From Time Immemorial.” I hope someone on Dr Peterson alerts him of this excellent piece of research on the roots of this conflict.

Very insightful, thank you for this. I never thought of, but Walter brings it out so clearly, that Russia is lost and searching for some sort of ideological underpinning. Living in Canada, with it's centuries old traditions, I can't imagine how that must feel and have always taken it for granted.

    • Rose-Marie Mukarutabana

I am sorry you find this conversation insightful, since the insights are so skewed and prejudiced as to be a version of US/NATO propaganda. Prof, Peterson should interviewees more carefully - or at least vary them. Colonels Richard Back amd Douglas McGregor do a better job at informing us than this Mr Mead.

It consistently makes me think and challenges me and I learn about so many topics that seem too complicated for me to start on and makes it more digestible to read up on when interested later. The guests interviewed here are so amazingly knowledgeable. I love it

One of the best most lucid conversations I’ve ever heard discussing the state of our world today and our past history and where we are going. Mr Mead has a detached mind few have like Jordan where he’s wanting to understand each point of view not necessary judge it has good or evil but why it is what it is, like how the history of each country brings about such horrible leaders. This conversation should be todays social studies class so kids understand that democratic and free societies evolve in such a dynamic beautiful mysterious way where what we have our lifestyles compared to the average Chinese or Russian? I always tell my friends get in a plane and go there and try speaking honestly and see what happens? Thank you again this was special and helped me personally understand some situations I was wanting to understand more clearly.

So I am just going to say this: I watch your Clip-Share channel because I know that I am going to disagree with the vast majority of your views, which I do! But I do this to expose myself to a counter-narrative to my own, thereby challenging myself and broadening my own understanding in the process. I just want to say that while I often disagree with your views, I appreciate the way you go about forming them - through critical thinking and intelligent interaction with others and I can tell that you are confident but also open to being challenged, which is refreshing. I want to thank you for the quality of these videos, the effort you put into them and the high level of discourse in them. I've gotten a lot out of watching these and I hope to continue in the future - albeit I don't think we will ever have a similar world view :)

This particular conversation is unfortunately so full of prejudice, so skewed towards US/NATO disinformation that it's at best worthless. Prof Peterson should find better informed and more balanced people to talk about Russia. The biases are scandalous.

I'm here going off on profound consciousness, and then I sober up enough to allow beautiful bridges to be made. History was and is my favorite subject. All science is founded upon our history, and in this very moment, we are making history today. I am working on some very specific goals, very special, I am trying to find the most like minded people in my stupor, to either lead by example, or purge demons.. War is always the last fundamental in this triumph that we see individual go right to, not knowing the way through this dark path. As my ego would say, follow the lantern light.
