I found your channel about a month ago and I've watched a bunch of your videos. This is one of your best. A series like this with legendary climbers past and present at legendary spots would be amazing. Also, you got me back bouldering for the first time in 10 years this week and brought my little bro with me and he loved it. Appreciate it man, definitely one of my favorite channels on Clip-Share now.

I mean we all know that Magnus is strong, but the fact that he can still flash boulders that Adam fails to flash is just insane. Adam is the pretty much undisputed nr 1 of our generation and Magnus can still hang with him!

    • Tom Riddle
Tom Riddle 3 months ago +21

Tom Riddle 3 months ago +2

      @Lawsong6 Yea I wasn’t sure. Definitely a possible interpretation.

    • noone
      noone 2 months ago +84

@Tom Riddle I don't know why you'd think I was talking about age but I guess I can clarify if it was confusing.
I meant that Magnus retired from competition climbing 6 years ago, and hasn't really been focusing on hard climbing since then. Sure he does a lot of general climbing content, but he doesn't really push himself by projecting really hard routes/boulders. Simultaneously he also does a lot of other wierd fitness stuff that should be to the detriment of his climbing ability.
On the other hand, Adam has climbed more than 20 V15 or harder boulders and has topped more 9b+ routes then any other climber in history, three of them in the last few years and the last one just a few months ago. So he is obviously at the absolute peak of human climbing ability.
Given all that, the fact that Magnus can still climb at a comparable level and even outperform Adam on some problems is astounding. Hope that clears it up.

A bit emotional watching this one. Last video I watched was your other Sheffield video and at the time I mentioned we were close by as my mum was in hospital in Yorkshire. Unfortunately she passed away on the 10th of February. She was really proud of my daughter who has just turned 7 and started climbing. She has been climbing a few months now and we usually watch your videos and Adam's videos together. We went climbing tonight in the northeast of the UK and she spent a lot of time talking about her Nanna. It's been a really emotional month but climbing helps her focus and talking helps her process the emotions. Watching videos together during mums illness was a big help for us both and gave us a lot of support. If you come back to the UK it would be brilliant if she could meet you both. I sent a message on Insta but appreciate you will get thousands. Thanks for another amazing video and this was probably one of my favourites to date. It felt very authentic and real. All fantastic guys and all inspirational. Thanks again

This is an amazing segment! The old footage of Ben and Jerry is from the "The Real Thing", a revolutionary video that completely flipped the script of what a climbing film looked and sounded like. It was the first climbing film that showed us the personalities of the climbers and gave a glimpse into their lifestyles . That coupled with a techno/house club music soundtrack made it look and sound like nothing that had been available before. It was not just another "RAD" action film, it was relatable to a new generation of climbers and set the tone for many films that followed.

This is the platinum standard for "all star cast".
The casual tone and the filming is brilliant.

Then Jerry: "you want some tips Adam? Just pull really hard..." 😂 classic.

This is a fucking insane video!! Huge props to Adam for joining in on this, it's a lot of preassure being nr 1! And of course MAD respect for the absolute legends. • Punt The Dog
Punt The Dog 3 months ago +106

not to be "that guy" but magnus is not one of the best climbers in the world. he himself would readily admit that, i'm fairly certain.
don't get me wrong. he's stronger than i could ever dream of being, and he's definitely in the top 99th percentile.... but when you are talking about millions (over ~25 million according to some estimates?) of climbers worldwide, being in the top 99th percentile, or even 99.9th percentile, doesn't make you one of the best. i mean just think about how many olympic climbers alone there are. and then you factor in how some of the strongest climbers to have ever lived aren't even competing these days... jimmy webb, daniel woods, nalle, shawn, etc...
edit: LMAO i seem to have really upset all the salty gymbros who think they know everything because they watched a few youtube videos and started bouldering 3 months ago and just climbed their first v3.
it's ok you guys can keep telling me why i'm wrong. i know you are wrong. and you know what's hilarious? i bet even magnus knows you are all wrong. and it wouldn't be out of a false sense of humility, it's because i'm sure even magnus himself knows just how good people are these days. there are people NONE OF YOU HAVE EVEN HEARD OF who are stronger climbers than magnus. and if you disagree with me, perhaps you should just take a minute and educate yourself on the world of climbing. it's a lot bigger than magnus' youtube channel.

Magnus, this is in your best category of videos. You've done quite a few and this is definitely one of them. I would say this is the first one where I was smiling through the whole video. Such a great vibe and energy. So great. Great job. Can't say enough how fun and great this video is.

Not 100% sure everyone will get his video, might not go viral, however, for someone like me, who started climbing in the early 90's, and still does now, this is GOLD. Had so much fun grinning and catching the psyche!

@riccardo fabris didn’t mention anyone. Just said I enjoyed the Clip-Share video. Had a poster of Gullich if that makes you rage a little less?

Hey Magnus, I am a Industrial Climber (not sure if you have something similar in Norway, and in certain cases it is very different from Climbing and more Rope Technique, but I would really love to see you do a Crane or Phone Tower Climb, hear your input and see how you feel about climbing metal structures like that, at in-door jobs in factories, climbing steel beams or so, you'd probably do amazing! :)

When Magnus was able to flash "Stuey Five Bellies 8A+ (V12)" 15:22 , I just screamed "F*ck yeah!". Really impressive, man! Adam is such a great climber, but Magnus keep reminding me of how good he can keep up with the best. I guess I will need to try harder next time I go to the climbing gym :) Thanks for the video!

This is by far my fave video you've put out. It's really cool to see that as much as you guys are the superstads in the climbing world, you're still climbers at heart. You guys hanging out and climbing, looks pretty much the same as every other group of climbing friends I've seen. solving problems, hyping each other up and all. Of course, you're just climbing 100 grades harder than the rest, lol.

It's cool how Ben Moon talked about his endurance getting better while his strength falls off. There is some debate in the literature, but it's generally believed that as you get older, type II fast twitch muscle fibres get converted to type I slow twitch muscle fibres, and the former is optimised for power while the latter is ideal for endurance and posture. It's not a training thing, it's an actual age based physiological change.

As everyone has said, this is an unbelievable episode Magnus, simply one of the best things I've ever watched. I'm 52, so Ben and Jerry are obviously going to be heroes of mine, but you, Adam and all of the younger generations of climbers are also heroes to me and that's what is great about the sport. Thanks for making and sharing such a wonderful video :)

I have kept a VHS player in my house just so that I can still watch the real thing on video (and, occasionally, hard grit...only wish I had a copy of stone monkeys). Immensely nostalgic to see this modern video with legends spanning 5 decades, chapeau for making this happen.

MAGNUSSSSS!! seeing you flash Study Five Bellies was honestly so engaging to watch. I'm so impressed, you don't compete anymore, and a lot of your time i'm sure is based around your other work and the channel, and it was honestly so impressive to see you nail that. I truly didn't realise how much of a powerful climber you still were. Amazing video idea you've bought to life here by connecting these people, which by the tone of the room I feel probably wasn't the easiest thing to arrange.
Props to you and thanks for what I think is probably the best climbing content out there in terms of contribution to the community and history. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy your prank videos and what not for the casual or non-climbers, but this is where it's at, and the reason I am subscribed and always check out what you're doing. Thanks man!

There is something about watching the best climbers do what they do best and how flawless they make it look like. It gives one nostalgia to think they could flash the routes as well but given the opportunity we would fail misrely. Congratulations on the calab with all the greats from yesterday and today. What an amazing video. Thanks Magnus
