I think the Pokémon you fear will eventually be in the game. However, we should just capitalize on the format as it stands now and worry about new Pokémon when they are revealed
There is 0 Pokémon that the legendary Wolfe vgc fears. Only Pokémon he wishes never to see again out of the sheer disrespect that they caused to his domain.
Even if venasaur isnt in the game, Hisuian Lilligrant could fill a similar slot. It gets chlorophyll and exchange for a worse typing and defenses, its faster and hits harder. Solar blade, victory dance, sleep power, and close combat/tera blast sounds terrifying
Even if Charizard is in Scarlet and Violet, at least you're not required to get Charizard in order to complete the Pokedex since the website says it's not native in Paldea
The problem is their focus on adding “popular” or “favorite” Pokémon. I bet there’s a ton of Pokémon who aren’t in Scarlett and violet that weren’t in any of gen 8.
@Tetra_Kirby But HGSS HAD all pokemon up to Gen 4! It ADDED extra content that wasn't in the originals! It even added in all the mechanical changes that were added in DPPT! But BDSM? It added NOTHING, it NEVER had Pokemon from gen 5 onwards, it initially released with HALF THE GAME MISSING ONLY FOR THE SECOND HALF TO BE ADDED IN LATER IN THE DAY 1 PATCH, it is still RIDDLED with several bugs like suddenly never needing heart scales for the move reminder, and the difficulty spike just goes from "super baby mode" to "HELLFIRE HATH GRABBED THEE FIERCELY BY THEE BOLLOCKS" RIGHT WHEN YOU ENTER THE LEAGUE! BDSP is an absolute DISASTER of a """remake""" and should NEVER be remembered.
@TheLastsecondhero Yeah but BDSP was the first, and only so far, remake that didnt include ANY of the new pokemon. Its unprecedented, missing features from gen 8, so should be labelled its own beast. PLUS its made by a different company with no experience. It is essentially the same games as back in gen 4. Dont be dense, dont play semantics, use your brain
I’ve heard that grimmsnarl gets parting shot now. I think we got bigger things to worry about besides incineroar. Koraidon’s ability sets up sun so you can imagine what will likely happen with essentially groudon 2.0.
Wait that new legendary motors are going to be able to fight? I hope not because i like to be able to only play normal wild pokemon instead a legendary who's a fast sweep and abusable but even if the motor gets battleable i wouldnt mind it that much the only concern it would present is its percent of use if gamefreak allow them to be battleable on the begining of S/V first ranked battles
Sleep should be two turns always. Spark, Volt Tackle, and Wild Charge should also wake up Pokémon that use them early, kinda like how they do in Legends: Arceus.
@MajickMan well they could make it so Rest aka self induced sleep is an exception and is always 2 turns. Otherwise works as intended. Though with sleep and waking up you could potentially do a little trick if you know the enemy is trying to status your pokemon. Sleep your own pokemon, enemy targets and fails status move cause you already asleep and then wake up with wild charge. Though it requires very specific speed tier interactions. And the opponent being immune to sleep (via typing, item or electric terrain) cause otherwise why not just sleep him first. But a possibility nonetheless.
@MajickMan that was a legends Arceus tactic, with the caveat that it gave you the drowsy condition which makes you take more damage, and only restored 75%. So you'd have to pass the sleep check to use the move, and any time before which your opponent is doing 1.5x damage.
Huh, as a singles player, its fascinating to hear your opinion on Venusaur - I’ve actually been anxiously awaiting Venusaur’s arrival to SV because it’s an underrated defensive Pokemon in singles and my preferred anti-Breloom Pokemon. It absorbs opposing Sleep Powder, Spore and Toxic, can successfully 1v1 most Grass types including the likes of Breloom and Tangrowth, and it can either Leech Seed or Sludge Bomb things that come in to scare it out on the switch. Its also doubles as a Poison STAB Pokemon to scare out Fairy types as well. While it could use a little more bulk, its typing and speed tier are really useful for dealing with opposing walls and grass types. I kinda wonder if the answer to satisfy both your dislike of Venusaur’s fast Sleep Powder cheese strats and my wish for more bulk is to change Venusaur’s Hidden Ability from Chlorophyll to Thick Fat, to mirror Venusaur’s Mega Ability. I’d have a Venusaur that doesn’t have to worry so much about common fire and ice coverage moves, and you’d have a Venusaur that can't use an annoying cheese strat. Honestly, Game Freak has doubled down on balance efforts this gen, maybe they’ll give Venusaur and Incineroar a second pass in term of Hidden Abilities?
You should make a Tier List video of all the pokemon in the game based on what you think their best terra type is, so instead of being S A B C D E tier it would be Grass water fire electric dragon and all the other types as the tiers
@cursedGalataea is it a problem to want a top player to help clarify ideas about the game? None of us will understand the game like he does and sure we can think "My dondozo is water so I should tera ground for electric and grass" but there might be other options you hadn't even considered yet. It's just expanding horizons y'know?
I wish they had more "Out of sleep" options. Sleep talk is kind of cool but idk something like a "wake up slap" that wakes your pokemon and gives it plus 1 attack and or plus 1 special attack. Or some abilities that make you pokemon recover 1/16-1/8 hp every turn it sleeps. Sleep is a bad problem but so SO fixable.
@Blaze Chaos Uhh, healbell is still in the game, and has been since gen 2. If you mean combat wise, healbell is more useful than wakeup slap because it affects the entire party, though you are still throwing a turn away to do so which an opponent can take advantage of.
@Devouring_One Oh, okay. That's why I said I didn't remember seeing it, instead of outright saying it was removed- I guess I really just didn't notice it. lol
@ThatOnePossum Wake Up slap is in all the games from diamond and pearl to lets go. It was removed in gen 8. The issue with it is it only works in double battles and uses the turn of your other pokemon (while also dealing damage) so it's not all that useful
I think that something worth remembering in regards to Venusaur is that grass terastalization gives you an immunity to sleep powder, so it’s possible that Venusaur is hurt just as much it’s helped by terastalization
I mean Hisuian Lilligant/Lilligant/Jumpluff is already in the game so I don't really see how Venusaur is going to change anything too much in terms of making the game "unhealthy". Incineroar being added would be a problem though and with Decidueye being in the game, its a possibility alongside Primarina to have the starters together and might be a similar case with Samurott too. Really hope this is a one time thing
We got Torchic in x and Y early as an event with its stone and speedboost and then Swampert and Sceptile got megas of their own in oras if I recall correctly
So heres my question. Because this Charizard is technically event only, as in its only obtainable during this short time window, doesnt that mean that it, and by extension the other Kanto Starters if they do the same thing, will be ineligible in VGC as limited distribution Pokemon are not allowed?
Well, the thing is that now any Pokémon can potentially become Tera-grass, making them immune to powder moves, and also sun now also boosts the past paradox forms via protosynthesis(I think that’s the name), making it riskier to use sun. Of course, you could also have those Pokémon, but, overall I don’t personally believe it would be as bad as you think.
Any thoughts of a good change to minimize the variance of sleep? Like if the Pokémon always just slept 2 turns or if the person with the sleeping Pokémon could at least see how many turns they were going to sleep for?
@AABatteries321 It can miss tho, along with a chance to 1-turn sleep, which are both the worst outcomes to happen. That's why Emerald Kaizo made sleep moves 100-percent accurate to make it consistently deadly
@Blaze Chaossleep is incredibly bad for singles as well. It’s why we have things like sleep clause in smogon formats, because of sleep’s volatility and strength.
@RetroKoH ehh, Sleep is good. The problem is the nature of Singles vs. Doubles so a 2-turn sleep is actually bad for Singles but healthy in Doubles. Similar to how bad Tailwind is in Singles compared to Doubles. (Also, I like my RNG hehehe, too much consistency leads to less variation, where the latter is the nature of Pokémon. Like a risk/reward kind of scenario. Less consistent but has the chance to be REALLY deadly.) I tend to rework sleep with this: 40% chance to sleep for 1 turn 40% chance to sleep for 2 turns 20% chance to sleep for 3 turns
I plan to get into the VGC this Christmas break, hoping the format remains the 400 dex pokemon, and I can learn alongside everyone else. Sure I will have a different amount of experience than everyone else, but I can still benefit from the new content and teams people make.
At the top of my head the one time I can think of where one starter was available but not the others (not counting transfers) was the event Torchic being available for about a year from the release of XY
I still think regi eleki is going to be more of a threat in gen 9 than anyone else but donzogo and tatsugiri strategy look like that pokemon could eat a half if not whole your team
They didn't apparently add Drowsy/Frostburn from PLA, and Sleep Powder was *the* move that would benefit from applying a Drowsy status instead of a Sleep status (with Hypnosis being a close second).
It’s funny you say this because recently I’ve been using Liligant, who also has this same ability, access to sleep powder, is faster than all the Pokémon you mentioned and can benefit hugely from tera fire from the sun too. Also not to mention Quiver Dance. I’m hoping it can finally be good this Gen as it’s one of my favourite Pokémon, even if it is to your dismay lol (I apologize). It does definitely lose in the defence department though
It has somewhat low defense, but sleep powder/quiver dance is an _amazing_ way to cover for that weakness, and as glick says, terra fire makes liligant (and grass in general) only have weaknesses to the things that would have no business switching into it.
I was pretty upset about home compatibility not being set up for SV launch. Some people on twitter were saying it was good for comp, particularly new players. I'd love to see you talk about this. I didn't agree with the take because my opinion is that a new player's barrier to comp is knowledge, not the time required to build mon. It would be interesting to hear what you have to say as someone who is very involved in the scene and might be more aware of what barriers of entry there are for new comp players. Just to be 100%, I do think a new player could have an easier time with the delay of the home compatibility but I don't think it is easier because it is representative of the true comp pokemon experience.
Hisuian starters included Samurott, and I don’t remember either of the other Gen 5 starters appearing in Gen 8. Maybe I’m mistaken, but there might be hope? It’s also possible that competitive Pokémon will have doomed itself by overusing Incineroar, giving Nintendo the impression that it’s a widely popular and well-liked Pokémon that they need to include
Do you know the difference between fea, terror and panic? Fear is having Charizard in Gen IX. Terror is having Incineroar in Gen IX. Panic is having Lando-T in Gen IX.
I don't think Venusaur is a problem. The only problem with it is that it has extremely fast sleep powder, and hopefully drowsy returns and sleep becomes less common if not entirely gone.
I think it would be cool if you did a video about how you think Terastalizing would effect VGC. I think it would be cool to compare how you think it's going to and how it actually does.
What they could end up doing is making it so that Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshawott will only evolve into the Hisuian variants of Decidueye, Typhlosion and Samurott respectively. About Charizard I don't have a clue what I think they'll do
I think Sleep would be balanced out if it only lasted one turn. Like it's kinda crazy that a pokemon can get flare blitz to the face and its supposed stay asleep? Idk about that one. The pokemon should only stay asleep for one turn whether it was attacked, switched out, and the other set up.
Initial VGC rulesets tend to be regionlocked, so the problem is at least delayed. But yeah, it's gonna be there...maybe not at Venu's introduction, but later. :/
With the new paradox forms and how they benefit from Sun, some of them like Roaring Moon and Flutter Mane will outspeed Venusaur under sun, and both pack enough power to ohko. Won't make it less obnoxious but it'll be easier to play around
Well since Koraidon sets up Sunny weather and Moraidon says up electric terrain, Clorophyll users might have an easier time, since the Box Legends might not be considered Restricted, as they are the also considered Paradox Pokémon of Cyclizard, and might be legal in some formats as they don't necessarily have incredible stat totals compared to most other Legendaries
@Denvvver Do you even know what restricted means when it comes to VGC? Some formats ban restricted mons entirely, and others allow a limited amount of restricted mons per team. Zacian was restricted.
@AWanderingSwordsman Its not *quite* Intrepid Sword. Like the Ruinous Quartet's abilities, it doesn't actually affect the stat stage. The exact amount isn't known as far as I've seen, but tests suggest its somewhere around a 30% buff.
@HunterSerge the Paradox part is because all of the other Paradox forms, are entirely separate pokemon as well, such as the Misdrevious, and Jigglypuff Paradox pokemon both having 570 BST, and they don't evolve or get previous forms. Along with Salamance, and Gallade/Gardevoirs having a 590 BST, The 2 Cyclizar Paradox Forms have a 670 Base stat Total, which is still really good. ... And after realizing again that they increase their stats as well with their ability, I realise now that their isn't enough Copium to think they will be unrestricted.
I don't think incin is that guaranteed because in theory hisui deckydui is from the hisui starter trio, so hopefully he's at least only released in the last dlc
What do you think about the idea of using burn up and tera normal to give arcanine both STAB and TTAB extreme speed? Also the idea of tera normal multiscale weakness policy dragonite with DD and extreme speed. If you don't kill it turn one it's got a speed boost and +1/3 attack with a TTAB extreme speed.
@BigPurplePops yeah but if you are typeless and tera normal, might it not make you actually normal type as well? I guess it'll just depend on how the interaction works.
I forget the gen 8 vgc series where they restricted the top performing pokemon but i think we need more of that in the game. It's preaching to the choir with gamefreak not going fully back on dexit but I would at the very least want to have as many pokemon as physically possible in the game. I think its honestly a fairly simple matter to flag certain centralizing pokemon to sit out of a lot of official formats instead of removing them entirely.
My thoughts are that grass bird (I'm not looking up how to spell it) It's only an exception due to legend's archives. We may not be able to even be normal grass birds, although that might be a stretch and for Charzard he's like one of the mascots so it makes sense he would show up also I think pokemon would be a bit smarter this time
I'm adding this to my Watch Later if I don't finish it. Honestly... With how the Dex cut did things. I have the opinion that every Gen needs 1 of the Main Gen 1 starters or Pikachu within the generation. Pikachu & Eevee most likely. With at least he first 3 Eeveelutions. Because with the idea that you get maybe around 100 New Mons. Have 400 overall mons maybe a bit more with DLC. It feels like it's best to have something recognizable along with some of the mons that will come back to get buffs, changes, or new forms/evolutions. Then some that they will bring back just to be there as they haven't been in a game in a hot minute.
I think its possible we don't see Incin because Decidueye is possibly being trio'd with Typhlosion and Samurott for their Hisuian Forms, but I'm probably also on the copium.
It could also be like this. But Jotho and Univa complete trio never made it to switch games, so i can see in a near future with updates or dlcs that they are added, ans if the other two trios are added. I think they would add both the rest of the Alola and Kanto trio
The bigger question is whether they would be considered tournament legal, which is entirely possible that they aren't (since they are not in the Paldea dex). If they aren't legal, let us get silly absurd potentally game-breaking mons, like electric shedinja.
Mr. Bonus, what about Hisuian Lilligant? Higher base speed with chlorophyll and sleep power. Looks like we’ll have it once home is available at the latest.
According to the transfer only page of serebii only charizard, the kalosian starters and the PLA starters are coded in atm. It can and probably will change after home connectivity but I don't think they will be a problem for a long time
With SwSh that list only grew when the expansions were released. Unless there's significant ongoing updates for the game planned in a way they haven't done before, it's safe to assume Venusaur is at the very least a year away.
So for the Venu sleep powder being inaccurate at times, I understand it’s degenerate from your point of view for sure but on the other hand it’s also healthy cause it adds a suspense of betting on a move that could make it or break it. Having that factored in I feel like is important cause it’s also for like that for other games and sports(like when I play smash or watching Haikyuu when they go for their signature spikes). Sure you’re rewarded for going a safer route but having a comeback factor that might cost you the game or win only adds “Hype” moments for sure. Now granted their are some mechanics on games that have certain comeback factors that ruin the game but for Pokémon and me being new to the scene this just makes me hype and puts me on edge of my seat!💯
Incineroar is one of my all-time favourite Pokemon in terms of aesthetics, concept, etc. but one of my least favourite competitively so I'm extremely torn over the prospect of it being in the game. The new item Clear Amulet might balance it somewhat but ehh hard to say. Guess we might know soon from other Intimidaters in the game though!
Currently, based on data mines, the only generation where all starters can be transferred is generation 6. Charizard and the legends arceus starters are the only ones of their generation currently capable of being in the game. This means no wenusaur or incin at this time. This could totally change in the future, but hopefully not!
I dont know if inceneroar will be added because in this case decidueye is an arceus starter not an alolan starter so to me its not a requirement to add the other two, while venasaur is almost guarenteed in my mind because charizard is 100% a kanto starter. However, if we hopefully get the new arceus variants of sleep and freeze that solves that problem too so it could still be fine
The new variants of sleep and freeze aren't in scarlet and violet Also, I'm pretty sure you can transfer the non hisui version of the starters into S/V
Hi. I was messing around in Pokémon when I thought of a neat Goodra build that I wanted some feedback on. I will post the build as a reply to this comment but the main idea is that since Goodra has good bulk it could run Life Dew + Substitute and since it would have the substitute up it could take a max of 25% HP damage in a turn but Life Dew not only heals Goodra on 25% HP (the most you can take in a turn) but it also heals the other Pokémon you have out. That way Goodra can heal most of the damage it takes, it also heal your other Pokémon you have out. What do you think of it?
do u think jumpluff with chlorophyll sleep powder and 110 base speed before chlorophyll will be even worse than venu? jumpluffs states arent nearly as good but it does get tailwind/pollen puff/rage powder/sleep powder/charm/encore/etc making it a lot more supportive.
That’s the thing; it’s more supportive than offensive. What makes chlorophyll venasaur so frustrating for Wolfe to play against. the fact that it has both sleep powder and the ability to hit like a truck while being fast as hell
theres way to mamy counters for incineroar that where just added to the game in gen 9 like gholdengo's "good as gold" abilities like guard dog ( even tho its just a one mon gimmick), or even farijiraf's armor tail with its trick room, it looks like so much interest was put into "countering" incineroar I personally wouldn't see a come back but some spore teams could harm with the already being mons
@JJSSBU "Tera type counters spore" bro when have you put a grass terra type on a Pokémon? I have been playing doubles, ou and AAA since gen9 got released and not even once did I put grass type its just not viable, too many weaknesses, not very useful offensively and not only the meta, but all of the strong Mons have a counter type: ice(chien-pao), bug(lokix and roaring moon), flying (any acrobatics user or hurricane), fire(chi-yu), poison(gengar, clodsgide, glimmora)... (in case you didn't know, terra type is selected before match not inbattle)
I think your fear of how they're going to be used is getting in the way of you considering that many people love the original starters, and it would be a shame to throw them out.
charizard has been my partner since red version, as long as charizard is in i'm good... can't wait to transfer my shiny charizards for some paldean adventures once home gets updated :)
Oh, also, I believe Tailwind is making it's first appearance as a TM this generation. Hopefully this corresponds to an increase in move distribution and, therefore, reduces the upside of powerful speed-boosting abilities like Chlorophyll, Sand Rush, and Swift Swim. IIRC there are also a couple of new options for protecting your team from "powder" moves. In conjunction, hopefully these two make the risk of Sleep Powder Venusaur one that isn't worth taking. If people want a fast Sleep Powder/Spore user, they can use Vivillon. It survives a hit with a Focus Sash!
I mean...if I remember correctly, Mega Blaziken was added back in X and Y *without* Mega Sceptile or Mega Swampert right?....maybe they won't add Venusaur or Blastoise?
re: Venusaur, would you say the same about Jumpluff, which 1) has chlorophyll and 2) is faster than Venu (it has 110 base speed, compared to Venu's 80) and 3) has sleep powder.
Gangar with its hidden ability and hypnosis is not much different so I don't see the difference here. In other words in some way what you are talking about was already pretty accessible and Gangar already has a high base speed. Same difference with Vivillon as well.
Luckily for the meta, we have seen all transferable pokemon thanks to the leakers. Obviously this might change based on DLC, but at the moment, Charizard is the only Kanto starter in the files, and Decidueye, Samurott, and Typhlosion are the only starters of their gens to come back, because they have PLA evolutions. Hopefully they don't add in the other starters like they did with the Isle of Armor DLC...
It doesn't help that Torkoal Flutter Mane is ALREADY good and that Venusaur would make it an unstoppable core. Also don't forget, in Generation 6, Blaziken was the same way- it appeared on its own. Personally, I wanna see Sceptile and Empoleon complete the set of 3 instead!
Nobody else has said this and I've been scrolling for a while, but Koraidon sets harsh sunlight and if it acts like Primal Groudon's then we won't be seeing Torkoal
I appreciate your insight here, though I have a question. What is the difference between relying on a sleep power to hit to win vs relying on a Focus Blast/hydro pump to hit to win in a situation where both missing would lose the game?
Sleep powder doesn't just take out a mon, it can give you 2-3 turns of free setup to sweep (which basically means you win the game). The comparion is damage vs utility really. Focus blast is an upfront drop that keeps the battle flowing, while sleep powder can put you in a position where you have to choose to switch out, or hope your mon wakes up in time to prevent the setup (and not get sleep looped)
I personally love Venasaur. He’s my favorite starter. I don’t run sleep powder though. I run toxic, leach seed, protect, gigadrain. I run it as an annoying stall wall.
As long as Dragonite is in the game I’m good. I didn’t get SWSH until the Crown Tundra dropped. I also like how Dragonite gets a slight buff every gen 😉
As of now, while the 3 Hisuian starter lines are in-game, none of their generation counterparts are. I believe only Kalos and Galar have their full set of starters in the game so far.
Once pokemon home is updated to include pokemon scarlet and violet, I can add any pokemon I want to my copy of violet (I have over 3000 pokemon from the last 8 gens), so I don't see a problem.
I think it might just be Charizard this time since we already know Venusaur and Blastoise aren't coded in, whereas in SwSh they were coded in at launch. Not worried about Incineroar for the same reason, all 3 Hisui Starters are the only Starter from their generation that's in the code.
Unless they get added through a future dlc, they are not in the game as of now Not even through HOME transfer, the only reason decidueye, samurot and typlosion made it is because of their hisuian forms the other starters of that generation are not in as of now
K watched the video now... I like Venusaur. I get how some people feel about status but I feel this community is so weirdly in the middle when it comes to competitive stuff and they won't go the distance to commit to being fully competitive in some ways or just accepting what they got. I think it's fine however what we have this competitive nature that has existed like that for so long. This is Pokémon in my opinion. Also I think Hisui and what comes with it doomed Scarlet and Violet. Even with Nerfs some things got better and they are coming the mons that will certainly shake up the Meta in some way.

really cool that BonusWolfe was able to collaborate with WolfeyVGC, I’ve been waiting for this
Top 1 anime crossovers in history, NGL
I was waiting for those two to finally meet.
cringe
Top ten colab hands down.
Fr now we just need a MandJTV and MandJTVPlays collab
I think the Pokémon you fear will eventually be in the game. However, we should just capitalize on the format as it stands now and worry about new Pokémon when they are revealed
@General Kindle -zacian and caly shadow cause no one misses them

Agreed
Even if venasaur isnt in the game, Hisuian Lilligrant could fill a similar slot. It gets chlorophyll and exchange for a worse typing and defenses, its faster and hits harder. Solar blade, victory dance, sleep power, and close combat/tera blast sounds terrifying
The point of chlorophyll is you don’t need the extra speed but yeah I guess it’s more useful outside of sun if something goes terribly wrong somehow
@Jewn Ersey Yes, physical quiver dance.
Victory Dance? That a new move ?
@Luis Aponte the problem is sleep powder+ chlorophyll
The only similarity they have together is being grass type and having chlorophyll lol.
Even if Charizard is in Scarlet and Violet, at least you're not required to get Charizard in order to complete the Pokedex since the website says it's not native in Paldea
@Viniflame † Charizard should be in every single pokemon game/video/movie
Trust me, if I needed to have every pokemon that isn't from events registered, I'd still be evolving kantonian wooper into quagsire
@Mace Windu i mean, Charizard is literally in the title lmao
What has that got to do with the video
@Rafaelcore i dont really care you should know this as dedicated discriminator since XY
The problem is their focus on adding “popular” or “favorite” Pokémon. I bet there’s a ton of Pokémon who aren’t in Scarlett and violet that weren’t in any of gen 8.
It's true. But everyone has a favorite starter of gen 1.
Thank goodness Smeargle isn’t considered a popular Pokémon then lol
@Tetra_Kirby But HGSS HAD all pokemon up to Gen 4! It ADDED extra content that wasn't in the originals! It even added in all the mechanical changes that were added in DPPT!

@Bubby0304 it isn't a shit comparison, because the pokemon you can use in the game doesnt dictate what generation it is.
At this point we should expect Pikachu and the Kanto starters to be in every game as the four are the mascots of the franchise.
Don't forget lucario
That's in everything too
I thought it was pretty clear that Pikachu, Eevee, and Charizard are all kind of in their own tier as mascot pokemon.
and eevee!
I’ve heard that grimmsnarl gets parting shot now. I think we got bigger things to worry about besides incineroar. Koraidon’s ability sets up sun so you can imagine what will likely happen with essentially groudon 2.0.
@Reina Tanachi pokemon has done restricted formats where they let you use the strong box legendaries in tournaments so yeah probably
@Reina Tanachi you can use them to fight in the games
Grimmsnarl was already broken
Wait that new legendary motors are going to be able to fight? Sleep your own pokemon, enemy targets and fails status move cause you already asleep and then wake up with wild charge. Though it requires very specific speed tier interactions. And the opponent being immune to sleep (via typing, item or electric terrain) cause otherwise why not just sleep him first. But a possibility nonetheless.
@Cthul-who Yeah but that wasn't included in OP's suggestion
@MajickMan that was a legends Arceus tactic, with the caveat that it gave you the drowsy condition which makes you take more damage, and only restored 75%.
So you'd have to pass the sleep check to use the move, and any time before which your opponent is doing 1.5x damage.
Spam Rest + Wild Charge

Yall just want wolf to do your homework for you
goated idea
I would love to see that
It's kinda unfortunate that there are several unhealthy starters and starters are pretty likely to be added because they're so recognizable.
Snore is also a thing
@Blaze Chaos Uhh, healbell is still in the game, and has been since gen 2. If you mean combat wise, healbell is more useful than wakeup slap because it affects the entire party, though you are still throwing a turn away to do so which an opponent can take advantage of.
@Devouring_One How about Heal Bell?
@Mace Windu it’s really not that good
@Jack McDonough it is tho
@Jack McDonough Are you sure? It was used a lot in sword in shield vgc.
Nah sleep powders not even good on venasaur
I mean Hisuian Lilligant/Lilligant/Jumpluff is already in the game so I don't really see how Venusaur is going to change anything too much in terms of making the game "unhealthy". Incineroar being added would be a problem though and with Decidueye being in the game, its a possibility alongside Primarina to have the starters together and might be a similar case with Samurott too. Really hope this is a one time thing
@FrostyFrog3018 I did, and I cringed real hard when he said it.
@Miles Storzillo did you watch the video? he pronounced decidueye as decky dewy in the video
@Orange Bear There is literally no Pokemon who'se name is pronounced like that.
@Miles Storzillo no, he mean decky dewy.
@FrostyFrog3018 No, he mean Decidueye.
I have a weird feeling that power creep is going to make Venasaur the least of our worries
@Joseph Park at least it has average stats
@lunactia le lunar moth still can’t believe they gave that thing technician, and dragon dance that gets rid of hazards at the same time.
the maushold in the corner
We got Torchic in x and Y early as an event with its stone and speedboost and then Swampert and Sceptile got megas of their own in oras if I recall correctly
Yes
So heres my question. Because this Charizard is technically event only, as in its only obtainable during this short time window, doesnt that mean that it, and by extension the other Kanto Starters if they do the same thing, will be ineligible in VGC as limited distribution Pokemon are not allowed?
Only Charizard is in the game (transfers included). We'll need to wait for the DLC.
@AABatteries321 2-turn sleep is meh except if it's Rest. 2-turn sleep is flinch with extra steps
Less consistent but has the chance to be REALLY deadly.)
I tend to rework sleep with this:
40% chance to sleep for 1 turn
40% chance to sleep for 2 turns
20% chance to sleep for 3 turns
@Blaze Chaos Consistency is better for a competitive metagame. Sleep as it is, is a trash mechanic, period.
I think we can count on starters being added whether through raids, updates, or dlc.
I plan to get into the VGC this Christmas break, hoping the format remains the 400 dex pokemon, and I can learn alongside everyone else. Sure I will have a different amount of experience than everyone else, but I can still benefit from the new content and teams people make.
Same
At the top of my head the one time I can think of where one starter was available but not the others (not counting transfers) was the event Torchic being available for about a year from the release of XY
Honestly I think Drowsy and Frostbite should’ve been added, especially Frostbite
It has somewhat low defense, but sleep powder/quiver dance is an _amazing_ way to cover for that weakness, and as glick says, terra fire makes liligant (and grass in general) only have weaknesses to the things that would have no business switching into it.
its like having Ludwig and mogul mail in the same video, wolfey and bonuswolfe should collab more 🤩🤩🤩
I was pretty upset about home compatibility not being set up for SV launch.
Terastilizzing at least has the potential to counter Amoongus and Venusaur with Grass Tera to be immune to powder moves.
sus
Do you know the difference between fea, terror and panic? Fear is having Charizard in Gen IX. Terror is having Incineroar in Gen IX. Panic is having Lando-T in Gen IX.
At least two of those are already confirmed tho Lando T got move changes this gen but he's nowhere to be seen yet
@17Master Anguish
What is it when all three are in Gen IX?
Tera adds so much to the game it’ll be interesting how the counter play meta develops
I don't think Venusaur is a problem. The only problem with it is that it has extremely fast sleep powder, and hopefully drowsy returns and sleep becomes less common if not entirely gone.
Grass Tera Type could counter Sleep Powder maybe
Sleep is the same as it ever was and is not changing.
I think it would be cool if you did a video about how you think Terastalizing would effect VGC. I think it would be cool to compare how you think it's going to and how it actually does.
Well, only time will tell
What they could end up doing is making it so that Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshawott will only evolve into the Hisuian variants of Decidueye, Typhlosion and Samurott respectively. About Charizard I don't have a clue what I think they'll do
I think Sleep would be balanced out if it only lasted one turn. Like it's kinda crazy that a pokemon can get flare blitz to the face and its supposed stay asleep? Idk about that one. The pokemon should only stay asleep for one turn whether it was attacked, switched out, and the other set up.
Charizard and Venasaur would also have a lot of synergy with Koraidon’s sun ability
I mean when it comes to inciniroar it might be more manageable due to the new defiant and competitive pokemon that are coming out.
This is my first time discovering this channel. So glad I did! I really missed the off the cuff unedited wolfey
Just got myself a shiny charmander, so I’m pretty happy that Charizard is in the game. It’s a great shiny too
Well since Koraidon sets up Sunny weather and Moraidon says up electric terrain, Clorophyll users might have an easier time, since the Box Legends might not be considered Restricted, as they are the also considered Paradox Pokémon of Cyclizard, and might be legal in some formats as they don't necessarily have incredible stat totals compared to most other Legendaries
@Milesprower time zones are a thing. Australia has been playing it for over 12 hours already
@Denvvver Do you even know what restricted means when it comes to VGC?
Some formats ban restricted mons entirely, and others allow a limited amount of restricted mons per team. Zacian was restricted.
@Milesprower lmao, non-aussie
I think that with the Hisuian starters, they will be treated as separate from their home eegions
As someone whose favorite pokemon is Venasaur but doesn't really care about the competitive screen I hope he's in the game
Burn up doesn’t leave you Normal; it leaves you typeless…
It could still be fun but it’d probably be like regular T-E-Speed lol
I’d change the terra type to grass and then use it in combination with Torkoal for some amazing sunny day solar beam shenanigans.
I love Venusaur, it should be in every Pokémon game ❤
I forget the gen 8 vgc series where they restricted the top performing pokemon but i think we need more of that in the game. It's preaching to the choir with gamefreak not going fully back on dexit but I would at the very least want to have as many pokemon as physically possible in the game. I think its honestly a fairly simple matter to flag certain centralizing pokemon to sit out of a lot of official formats instead of removing them entirely.
* cough *
My new favourite, Palafin
* cough *
I think venusaur is self balancing, but big agree I want a gen without incineroar.
Feels pretty easy to out speed chlorophyll venusaur with the paradox pokemon without having to go scarf so should be fine imo
My thoughts are that grass bird (I'm not looking up how to spell it) It's only an exception due to legend's archives. We may not be able to even be normal grass birds, although that might be a stretch and for Charzard he's like one of the mascots so it makes sense he would show up also I think pokemon would be a bit smarter this time
Decidueye (Dee si[d]jew eye)
Well blaziken existed in xy before transfer from bw was made available, praying this will be the case for the sake of the competitive format for sv
I think its possible we don't see Incin because Decidueye is possibly being trio'd with Typhlosion and Samurott for their Hisuian Forms, but I'm probably also on the copium.
This game has a higher probability to add nearly to all starters than sword and shield imo
It could also be like this. But Jotho and Univa complete trio never made it to switch games, so i can see in a near future with updates or dlcs that they are added, ans if the other two trios are added. I think they would add both the rest of the Alola and Kanto trio
Luckily this isn’t Gen 7 where Charizard was an integral part of my doubles team, so I don’t feel bad about missing out on this
I think a lot of the VGC issues with sleep could be solved by a sleep clause
You should rate the paradox Pokémon in competitive potential
With koraidon having a sun ability and Venusaur and Charizard both benefiting from the sun, sun teams are going to be a menace
Tera dragon zard isnt optimal, but it is pretty cool :P
And yeh tera fire seems good for chlorophyll grassers, especially with weather ball
There’s already tons of broken new mons that you’ll be frustrated by with or without venusaur so no need to worry wolfe
The new variants of sleep and freeze aren't in scarlet and violet
Also, I'm pretty sure you can transfer the non hisui version of the starters into S/V
@Aldrich Unfaithful I think i will stop try this strat since all new pokemon things i do will be for gen 9 now
@A-Play yw, gl if you try any of it out
@A-Play np :)
@Aldrich Unfaithful Thanks!
@kaotic300 Thanks!
Can’t wait to see new content for the new games
do u think jumpluff with chlorophyll sleep powder and 110 base speed before chlorophyll will be even worse than venu? jumpluffs states arent nearly as good but it does get tailwind/pollen puff/rage powder/sleep powder/charm/encore/etc making it a lot more supportive.
That’s the thing; it’s more supportive than offensive. What makes chlorophyll venasaur so frustrating for Wolfe to play against. the fact that it has both sleep powder and the ability to hit like a truck while being fast as hell
imo give jumpluff spore and destroy the game
theres way to mamy counters for incineroar that where just added to the game in gen 9 like gholdengo's "good as gold" abilities like guard dog ( even tho its just a one mon gimmick), or even farijiraf's armor tail with its trick room, it looks like so much interest was put into "countering" incineroar I personally wouldn't see a come back but some spore teams could harm with the already being mons
Yeah, but Grass Tera Type counters Spore
I think your fear of how they're going to be used is getting in the way of you considering that many people love the original starters, and it would be a shame to throw them out.
charizard has been my partner since red version, as long as charizard is in i'm good... can't wait to transfer my shiny charizards for some paldean adventures once home gets updated :)
Same!
I think Venusaur will always be in games. I can't see them ever cutting the kanto starters, the outcry from legacy fans would be pretty severe
Venusaur is my very favorite Pokémon, I’m hoping to see it eventually.
@Potatodork 64 fr
I don’t use inaccurate sleep powders with Venusuar, it alone in the sun with Weather Ball and Earth power is amazing coverage.
@Toby MacDonald I don’t even use sleepe powder venasaur
Venasaur by itself is cool but sleep powder spam is braindead tbh
Good taste
@vla1ne thank you for some clarification, I’m not sure I fully agree, but I do understand the logic and principles behind the difference
It’s confirmed don’t worry
pretty sure it's been used for Tera raid screenshots already so I think you're good.
This is easily the best Pokémon game ever. Problem is this could easily be one the greatest video games ever if the studio and Nintendo had some pride
Now, I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think the other starters are gonna be put into the game. Something about SV tells me it’s not gonna be put in.
I can’t believe Wolfey subbed for BonusWolfe! This is almost as big as MogulMail taking over Ludwig!
Hi Wolfe can you talk about the new tauros forms I like them :)
As of now, while the 3 Hisuian starter lines are in-game, none of their generation counterparts are. I believe only Kalos and Galar have their full set of starters in the game so far.
Feeling the opposite, love Venusaur and using it with Charizard.
Wolfe: "Charizard is such a problem!"
also Wolfe: "It's not Charizard, the problem is actually Venusaur"
Once pokemon home is updated to include pokemon scarlet and violet, I can add any pokemon I want to my copy of violet (I have over 3000 pokemon from the last 8 gens), so I don't see a problem.
I think it might just be Charizard this time since we already know Venusaur and Blastoise aren't coded in, whereas in SwSh they were coded in at launch. Not worried about Incineroar for the same reason, all 3 Hisui Starters are the only Starter from their generation that's in the code.
Unless they get added through a future dlc, they are not in the game as of now
Not even through HOME transfer, the only reason decidueye, samurot and typlosion made it is because of their hisuian forms the other starters of that generation are not in as of now
IIRC Charizard was in Sw/Sh and Venasaur and Blastoise didn’t make it in until the dlc so I’d say we have some time before they comeback
Have to agree with you - That was probably the cleanest „Walfey VGC“ I ever saw in the beginning :3
Can you do a video on the new move "revival blessing"? It seems ridiculously broken
